Camera hardware is great. Software is frustrating.

    Pros:

    - Low light sensor works great at night.

    - Camera image quality is superb

    - Continuous or incident recording function as advertised

    - Blends in nicely behind the rearview mirror, forget it's there.

    Cons:

    - Could really use a "capture now" button somewhere, as it is, you have to remember when the event happened and look for a file with that timestamp.

    - Software isn't very friendly.

    - Thinkware Cloud sign-up is broken, emails arrive entirely in Korean, and URLs to confirm email address doesn't work (expired token).

I love the way it looks on the back of my 2012 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited Altitude. Having an additional brake light and back up light is great too. Combined with the Alpine X209-WRA-OR the guide lines are very helpful. There is not much else to say. It does what it is designed to do. The install at Best Buy was 100% professional.

Better field of view. Worth it.

A little pricy if you compare to cameras you can buy on Amazon but you get what you pay for. I had bought a $20 camera on amazon to put in my tailgate handle and it was worthless because the horizontal field of view was so limited. I replaced with this in the exact same position and it was a night and day difference in regards to field of view and being useful for backing up. Highly recommend spending the extra money to get a decent camera like this. I've attached two pictures taken from the exact same position (vehicle didn't move) to illustrate the superior field of view compared with the bargain camera from "TopTierPro TTP-C12B" which claimed to have a 170º viewing angle. The Pioneer camera is supposed to have a horizontal 129º and a vertical 105º however you can see in the pictures it is clearly wider and taller than the cheap 170º camera.

    Great Little Back-Up Cam

So I got this Camera to install on my 2009 Suburban. My Suburban did not come with a backup camera, I wanted it to look Factory, so I bought a GM bezel to attach to the rear applique. This Camera fit inside with a little help (swapped the Allen Key screws for Philips head flat heads from an old computer hard drive...) anyway, supplied cable had 6 inches to spare, running it up the tailgate through the hing boot and then along the passenger side floor boards(in the factory cable track) and up to the head unit. Powered it from the passenger kick panel on a "switched" existing 12 volt supply. (fuse #43) The picture is fine, grainy at night with the OEM backup lamps, but not a fail. Upgraded to LED reverse lamps and the graininess has lessened. Perfect during the daylight. totally recommend this for others to use in their big SUV. Happy Fishing- (Wires that is).

    It works!

I got tired of fighting with Amazon cameras and this one worked easily with me Pioneer head unit without any more effort than running wires. Wiring it is a pain in the butt but doing it once, doing it right and never looking back is worth it. I also had to fabricate a bracket, so It is annoying that this cost as much as it did, but it was worked without a flaw for over a year!

    Great Camera Quality

My only complain is that it doesn’t have the license plate bracket so what I did it adhere it to my license plate (it does come with an adhesive backing). I do like the camera quality! Maybe the horizontal angle could be better? It’s okay, I can see my bumper, it gets the job done but I liked my previous camera before it popped out on me. Again, camera quality is pretty good!

    3rd backup camera I’ve tried

This is my third and hopefully last backup camera I try. The first one, I bought through Amazon and was really bad quality so I returned it, the second one was pretty good, bought here at Best Buy (Pioneer) but gave out within 4 months which was weird. Now, I got this one installed and it has the best quality compared to the other ones. It also has those guide lines the others didn’t. I don’t need them but hey if you like that, then plus points.

Even though it does fit my van there was something about the license plate light. This would give me 180* view. The substituted one performs well but is aimed high and I only get a 90* view. This installer overstepped his job when he substituted this along with other installed items without consulting me. I instructed him from arriving I will be remaining in the store and he has my cell number. And to repeat an earlier review, I was not given the opportunity to have a refund placed back into my debit/credit account. He instead gave me store credit. I dint shop at Best Buy usually. The reason these were purchased, the radio was a gift from my son.

    Installed as front camera

Followed a geek squad recommendation & had this installed as a front camera on my ‘93 Corvette. Because the nose of the car slopes so much, I always had to guess where the front end of the car was when I was parking it. No more since this was installed I know exactly where the front end of the car is when I’m parking it.

    Thanks Geek Squad!

IT’S “OKAY” EXPECTED MORE FROM ALPINE

Not really impressed with the video quality of this back up camera by Alpine. I have it connected to a Alpine head unit (Alpine ilx-f309 Halo 9in floating dash) that isn’t a low end head unit and the picture quality is not too good. Very grainy and just not that clear at all. I’ve adjust the settings within the Alpine head unit and even with the adjustments it did not improve the quality. The stock back up camera was a better picture. After upgrading the stock head unit the factory back up camera had a very bad fish eye view. Had to replace it with an aftermarket back up camera to correct the fish eye view. Went with Alpine since it would be a direct connection to the Alpine head unit and Alpine claims it’s high dynamic back up camera is better than the competitors. Again not impressed. It’s not a big deal but I was expecting more from Alpine.

The coverage is phenomenal! Btw, it doesn't interfere with my stereo, which really makes us happy! If you are looking for a back up camera, I wholeheartedly recommend this camera! You can't go wrong! Great camera with great views

I had Best Buy install this camera on both of my cars. I have a Prius C and Corolla that I also had compatible stereos installed on. And they look great! The viewing angle is really the best part as well as the video quality. Its easy to mount by either the strong adhesive, or screwing to car with the mount and screws it comes with. I think its great because it looks better (more factory like) than most other options.

The only negative thing I have is the green, yellow and red lines don’t line up perfectly with the ground. You can see the ground and it stops you from hitting anything it’s just not as good as a factory camera.

    All About Expectations

This camera is pretty good for a $80 camera. It lets you add back-up camera functionality to even older cars. The picture quality is decent. It's obviously not going to be as good as a factory one but those don't cost $80 either. There is no night vision built in so it's dark at night. However, with headlights and backup lights on, there is enough light (at least on my car) to see so you don't hit anything. Overall, this was good for the price. Not sure about reliability so only time will tell.

Great camera. Just be sure where the plate is loc.

This camera while not the best does the job. I can see kinda clearly when hitting reverse. The noise is visible but nothing that will affect your parking or anything like that. But make sure your license plate is in the center. If not you get stuck with a camera to far left like my SUV. Also when listening to music the bass makes the camera vibrate and you can see it Effect the image.

Get a dash cam for your prtection

Great add on dash cam; first get a 128GB micro SD card and a card reader (to PC) which are NOT included with the cam. I leave the display on when the cam is turned on. I manually turn the cam on at the start of a trip; off at the end of the trip. My vehicle's accessory port supplying the cam is hot all the time. If your car 's power receptacle turns off the cam when you turn off the the car's ignition switch that is a benefit to what I don't have in my car.

CAM RECORDS IN EITHER ONE, THREE OR FIVE SECOND LOOP

On cam display, follow initial set up:

set the length of the recording loop time 1 3 or 5 seconds

set how long cam display is on one sec to always on

    set date and time

    format SD card

Upon set up mount unit, route power cable (supplied with cam) to an accessory receptacle. Unit will automatically start upon power introduction, there will be a couple of yellow flashes that will occur at start up for a second or 2. Unit is passively recording now in the set time loop. Loop recordings are stored on card and newest footage is over written on card to the oldest. To manually record press pwr button 1 time, the cam will record in "emergency" mode in the designated time loop, the footage is saved to another file on the card that can be only be manually deleted with the card reader Get a dash cam for your protection.

    Great dashcam

I bought this open box dash cam and am very satisfied with it. It records up to 5 minutes at a time and will continue until it fills up the storage and then will overwrite old videos. It supports up to 128gb micro sd storage and wiring was a very simple process with someone that has 0 experience with it. I ran the wire in from the cigarette lighter under the glove compartment around the right side of the passenger window up to the rearview mirror and it worked perfectly. It is hardly noticeable and I’m waiting to see if my wife notices my work that I did. It has an easy to remove connector so that one can bring In the dash cam to deter theft. Transfer of video was painless with an SD card adapter connected to the computer. I tried connecting the device directly with the SD card inside however I was not able to get the computer to identify where the videos were this way. It will help when on the road and need evidence from those not so safe drivers.

    Great Dash Cam

It is a very simple, yet effective cam. The suction cup holds nice and firm with an added locking mechanism, the unit itself is lightweight, the interface is straightforward and the power cable is generously long. I like that it includes a USB hub adapter to plug into your cars aux power outlet too. The recording quality is really good for both the front and rear facing cameras day and night. It also has loop recording, which is a feature you want in a dash cam *Basically it will keep constantly recording, even if you run out of memory, as it overwrites old files*.

Things I want potential buyers to be aware of, because I see others may have not read the full description of this unit, is this is a HARDWIRED powered unit ONLY. It MUST be plugged in to function. Second, it DOES NOT come with a micro SD card. Even though the online manual says it can support up to 256gb cards, I can confirm that it DOES NOT support it. I got an unsupported error message multiple times. The box however indicates it can only support up to a 128gb card, which is the correct limit. Pro tip, get a higher quality fast reading SD card do NOT go cheap *I use a Sandisk with a V10 rating*. Make sure to format the card if using for the first time there is a handy built in setting in the dash cam that can do it for you. Video clips are saved as MP4 files and they they can be saved and played on most devices. Clips can be trimmed and sorted afterwards too.

Overall, it's a very good cam for the price. Obviously there are more expensive better ones, but this still performs exceptionally well for only a hundred bucks and it can fit most peoples needs. As a safety precaution, I recommend taking it down if you are going to be parked for an extended period of time, so as noone tries to make an attempt to steal it. I've done this a bunch of times and it hasn't lost any suction strength.

mounted it right behind the rear view mirror in my 07 camry. Wire across the top of the windshield down the side of the dash behind the glovebox into the center console. Took me 15 min to finish and that was taking my time.

Picture is decent quality. Takes up to 5 min video clips of the inside and outside. Mic can be turned off if you don't want to be recorded singing. Need to purchase SD card separately. Using a 128gb with mine.

Best value in my opinion. A lot of other brands sell at much higher prices just cause the brand name.

Easy to install, good picture quality

Just installed this for an old coworker who has an older Corolla. I bought the matching iBEAM backup camera, looks like iBEAM is a Metra brand which I like. I've installed these types of backup cameras before back before our cars came with them, so installation was a breeze for me. I like that this just plugs into the cigarette lighter outlet for power.

No issues so far, works exactly as it should. I used to pay a lot less for these rear view mirror screen clip ons, but the price is still reasonable. It's the perfect solution for an older car that you don't want to spend a ton of money for.

Be aware that there is considerable glare during the day - it's a mirror after all. You learn to adjust how you look at it and set your expectations accordingly. Night time is no problem. If your windows are tinted, that also helps. Picture quality is on par with the similar products I've purchased in years past. This mirror clips onto your old one so it transmits/amplifies vibration as your car idles, so just be aware of that. It's one of the sacrifices of this type of backup camera setup but I'd take this over none at all, that's for sure!

I was a bit skeptical about an after market back up camera. I bought one from another store (won't say who) and it was a solar one and it did not work great at all. It stopped charging after a 3rd charge. So I bought this one and so far so good. Its not as great as one straight from the cars manufacture but works great. I got this for my 08 Maxima. The camera has a nice clear image during the day. Night time image is not as great but good enough to know if there is anything behind. The camera has made reversing so much simpler and it does have a nice 170 degree angle view which is better than a lot of other camera's out there. I also like the fact that I don't need another monitor for the video. I had geek squad do the installation. They did a excellent job.

Installation is pretty much straight forward. I did watch a video online for some basic instructions, but got everything working over a weekend. I will say, the rearview mirror camera is a bit pixelated, so don't expect an HD picture out of this thing. Also, the mirror does have the option to hookup two cameras if you wanted to. There is no record option which I already knew when I bought it. I hooked everything up with an aftermarket switch (Does not come in the kit) so that the video only comes on when I flip the camera switch. The only complaint I have is that the rearview mirror is a bit loose so, so if you want the perfect position, it may move a bit but then settle into a position afterwards.

    Likes: Versatility; easy of use

Dislikes: Rearview mirror is a bit loose; Video quality could be better

Oh, by the way: The lines in the mirror can be removed if you cut a specific wire; If you want to keep them there, know they don't move at all if you are looking for that type of feature.

    Hasnt worked correctly since installled.

I wouldn't recommend this . When I go in reverse it flashes the screen and cut off completely. When I hit the brakes I get the picture attached.

    This thing is awesome!

I bought this so my 16 year old daughter could have a back-up camera on her 'beater' 2005 Honda Accord.

THE VIEW...For those wondering, when you are not in reverse, the digital image on the left of the mirror goes away and appears to function like a normal mirror.

THE INSTALLATION...Difficulty level 2.5/5. There are several videos online showing basic installation. You may need to research some other videos specific to your vehicle to know how to remove some basic parts (like some of the moldings around your vehicle).

ADVICE...Unless it's really easy to solder the camera wires to your reverse tail light wires, plan on picking up a wire splicing kit online (for less than $10). It will make the job go much easier. Also, unless you have an open slot in your fuse box for an item that isn't always powered by your battery when the key is not in the ignition (like a heated seat or radio), pick up a circuit fuse tap adapter (online) so you can easily tap into one of those power sources. Just watch a video, or two so you make sure you don't install it backwards. Lastly, if you use a tap adapter and/or wire splicing kit, make sure to get a wire connector crimp tool. Basic ones are less than $10 (you don't need the best thing out there for this basic job).

It is a lot of work and cost for what you get.

The camera is relative east to install but does require tools and some skill. The camera works. It’s slow to come up when you put your car in reverse. The picture is OK day and night until the car starts moving. Once moving, pixelation is at an unexceptionable level. In my opinion it isn’t worth the high cost. On the other hand, it will assist in parking. I haven’t talked with the correct person at Garmin to see if the pixelation can be reduced.

    Great for jeep wranglers!

I already had a Garmon gps and found out about this back up camera. I had been wanting one for safety when backing up around children. This was perfect for my needs. Installation was extememly easy, espiecially on my Wrangler, and it worked perfect the first time. Watching their installation videos made it a breeze to install. I've had it for about a month now and I have no complaints at all. It kicks on as soon as I place my jeep in reverse, and off when I put it in drive. I love it so much that I'm about to order a second one to place in from of my jeep for off road trail use.

Works great, but you may lose HD traffic alerts

I installed this on one of my cars first, and loved it so much I installed another on my other car. If your Garmin GPS has built-in HD traffic alerts (i.e., the model number includes LMTHD), you will retain the HD traffic alerts even with this backup camera.

However, if you get your HD traffic through an external antenna/power cable such as the GTM 60 power cable, your Garmin GPS will only have regular traffic alerts but not the digital HD traffic alerts.

How do I know this? I have the Garmin 2599LMTHD with built in HD traffic, and a Garmin 2589LMT that I get HD traffic via the GTM 60 power/antenna cord I purchased separately. The backup camera requires the use of a replacement power/antenna cord. With the replacement cord, HD traffic was retained in the 2599LMTHD, but was lost in the 2589LMT.

I cannot get this information anywhere, even Garmin customer reps aren't sure, so I am sharing the info here.

Returned but not because it didn't work well...

I wanted to use this with my Garmin GPS which as an antenae built into the power cord to recieve traffic alerts. Unfortunately this device also needs to use the power cord to receive the video image wirelessly....and they aren't the same thing so if you use the backup camera you loose the traffic alerts feature which you paid extra to get on my model of Garmin. It did seem to work fine though...image was satisfactory although not as high res as some hard wired units. I think I may just get a hard wired unit. Recommended only if you don't need traffic alerts.

    So Far So good

I was a bit skeptical about an after market back up camera. I bought one from another store (won't say who) and it was a solar one and it did not work great at all. It stopped charging after a 3rd charge. So I bought this one and so far so good. Its not as great as one straight from the cars manufacture but works great. I just want to be able to see whats behind my SUV

I didn't get this installed because wireing with it required taking down part of my headliner and I have a sunroof and wasn't happy with that idea.

I don't know how well the camera actually functions. I'm rating a 3 to be fair.

Great hardware, but software is problematic

I love my new dashcam; the resolution is fantastic, great views from front and rear and the installation was easy. But I wish the software was better. More on that in a moment, though.

I've had two cams before this, but they were front view only and I never really "installed" them so much as just plugged them in and left the wire dangling. Given that this had a separate rear camera unit, I knew I wasn't going to get away with that and while waiting for the camera to ship I dreaded the installation and routing wires.

But I didn't need to worry; the unit came with a really useful tool and plenty of cable. Rexing really stepped up by providing this tool with the cam and it worked wonders. I was able to hide every bit of my cable behind the trim and liner without having to unscrew or remove anything and the results look almost professionally done!

The unit itself is pretty straightforward in its operation and the keys/menus are logically designed. Although it took a few drives with the manual in the car to get used to everything, the learning curve was pretty shallow and there are lots of nice features and a good allowance for customization. The way I mounted mine, next to the rearview, the main camera is still within reach to control or save a clip but completely out of my peripheral vision so as not to be a distraction.

Same for the rear; it's small and unobtrusive and there's a thoughtfully small LED indicator that let's you know the camera is up but doesn't distract when you're looking out the rear view mirror. A lot of thought went into the design of the hardware and Rexing is certainly deserving of praise for this.

I wish that BB would allow me to upload a video because the quality of both cams is fantastic! Day, night, direct sun, overcast and cloudy... it just shines and is better than any other dashcam I have owned previously.

So why four stars instead of five? Well, it's the software. Firstly, there's confusion over which software to use - the manual mentions one, their website another. The problem is that neither one of them would connect with my phones!

It's important to note that the Wifi AP when activated connected with my phone just fine - according to the Wifi screen on my phones. But neither piece of software seems to recognize that the OS says it's connected. I tried an Nexus 6p, which is about as plain vanilla an Android phone as you can get as well as an older Samsung S7 but while both instantly connected to the WiFi on the cam in the Wifi screens, the Rexing software and the TimaCam software never completed the connection.

I was finally able to connect with an old Lenovo A10 tablet and at that point was able to view and download videos. But I don't take the tablet in the car with me so the only time I can use it is when I am home.

This renders one of their best features - Wifi access - almost useless for me. That's a bit of an issue because if I want to show a clip to the police, my choices are limited to either handing over SD card (and who knows what else might be on there!) or having to go home and bring the tablet to the station. It's also an issue because the software is also your only way to update the firmware.

Hopefully they will get these connection issues fixed soon. But otherwise, this is an exemplary dashcam with all the features and coverage you could ask for. And the imagery is incredible. Also loved the GPS feature; there is a special player you can download to view clips on your PC and it plays back with the GPS mapping in real time. Just wish I didn't have to jump through so many hoops to download the clips in the first place!

I'd still recommend it highly, but with the warning that there may be issues with particular phones connecting properly.

    Can't be more happier.

Finally a dashcam that satisfied me. Excellent video quality. Great performance and very reliable. I had to return other 2 dashcams and got this one on my third try. Finally a must have dashcam :)

    Really expected better

I hate to start a review on a bad note, but please read beyond the first paragraph, so let me give a few nice points about the Rexing V1P Pro first.

It has a front and rear camera that records individual time stamped HD (1080p) video with audio and includes GPS data in the file. WIth the very generic JMS DVR GPS Player on the PC, downloaded from their site, you can actually see the video beside a map of either Google Map, Baidu map or openstreetmap. As the video plays, it tracks it on the map with speed, Lat/Lon, date/time and a speed curve. Since this data is stored in the MP4 file, it can easily be shared with anyone that may want all of that information. The wide angle lense is decent enough to catch everything in front of it, claims it is 170 degrees. However, it seems to be a bit less than that as I feel it is more than 10 degrees to see full left/right of it’s view. It also has WiFi built in, but more on that for the rest of the review.

For most products, I can pick them up and run with them without giving much thought to the user manual. However, when I opened this one and noticed the 3M sticky pads, I figured I better learn this product before I screw it up and can’t move it. With a few grammatical errors and typos in the manual, it made me check the origin and as expected, made in China. No problem, as so many items are made there, just makes a little more sense for the errors. Anyways, I follow the directions for installing the cameras, which are very basic and has all of 2 lines about the rear camera. The rear camera has no real instructions, but rotates on its mount 180 degrees, one would assume that it can install in any direction at that point. The issue is that my truck has a sliding glass window and to install it I need the USB cable to run away from the window, see picture. What I then find out is it does not flip. What I managed to miss was the one line under Display Control “On the rear camera, you can toggle the built-in switch to horizontally flip the rear camera image.” Which talks about the LCD Display, not under the “Mount the rear camera” section. This is a mirror flip, lef/t right, not any other direction. So, now all of my rear videos are upside down and it doesn’t come with any replacement pads. So, take this as a heads up, if you get this, install the rear camera with the logo right side up.

The power cable is a standard 12v cigarette lighter adapter with a 12ft cord and a 20ft USB cable for the rear camera. More than enough cable to reach around most vehicles. They also include some wire clips, but the majority of it will require tucking in the headboard or somewhere if you want a clean looking install.

With install out of the way, inserting the SD card and formatting is fairly simple. However, the menu system is super clunky. The Rec/Mic buttons have left right arrows, but for the menu it is up down. For some menus, the screen shows “OK” on the right side, above the M button, but the OK button is on the left side. Another thing is that you can set the date/time, but that means nothing to it as it will take a GPS time, not from your time zone by default, unless you go further into the menu and set your timezone. Why not put that right next to or above date/time because I have lots of video that is now way out of time before I realized that. The OK really got me when i hooked it via USB to a PC and you have to hit OK, on the other side, to make it a Mass Storage device, or else it will boot up into the regular recording mode in a few seconds.

Mentioned a couple times in the manual and on the box is the Rexing Connect app. With WiFi enabled on the dash cam, you can directly connect to it from your device. I was able to get mine to connect and I could start/stop recording and watch live video. However, the main reason I wanted the app is to access the videos from the device from anywhere and that is the one function that would not work for me. I contacted support through their site with no reply over a week, I contacted them again and the reply I received was literally the line from the manual on how to connect to WiFI, which isn’t the problem. I replied to that email and still no reply. Reviews on the app show that I’m not the only one with an issue.

As for quality, it claims that with the main camera it can record up to 2160p (2880x2160) when the rear camera is not connected. However, I didn’t notice much a difference between that and the 1080p (1920x1080) settings, even on a 4K monitor. Both resolution settings were grainy and a bit blurry, however, the file size was more than double for the same loop length. It’s not bad for just needing to see a scene, but your not going to catch plate numbers if moving. Being that the cameras are attached to a fixed mounting bracket, some windshields may be at a bad angle for catching reflections. The camera is adjustable in the main device, but since the housing angle is fixed, much of my daytime video was even more muddled by the reflection of my dashboard in the windshield.

Now, I want to say this will capture those moments that you most need it, that even with the bad user interface and expected higher quality that it could save those moments. However, today I discovered that it wasn’t recording during part of my trip, no idea why. Also, the user manual says the locked videos will be in \CARDV\MOVIE\RO, but my manually locked videos weren’t, but amongst the many other files, which will be found by date once the non-locked files are overwritten.

Easy to use HD dashcam combo

Pros: Front and Rear HD cameras; Easy to use; Easy to setup - Literally:

    1) Put in a memory card (Note - not included)

    2) Plug into 12 volt outlet in car

    3) Mount front and back cameras via sticky tape mounts and you are in business.

Depending on how clean of an installation you'd like to have you can use the included plastic trim tool that lets you quickly and easily tuck the cables from the cameras under the edge of your car's dash/window/floor trim. There's also an available optional (separate purchase) hard wire kit to wire the cameras directly into your fuse box to keep your cars 12volt plug free.

Video quality is great and quick and easy to lock and save a video. Comes preset to loop recording video - Now if someone cuts you off - just tap the "OK" button and the last recording is locked for later viewing and won't be overwritten by the loop. Files are easy to remove and view via PC.

There's a bunch of additional features like gps location reporting of the video; changing resolution, loop recording, accessing the camera via wifi on your smartphone, etc. But 99% of the time your use it to record your front and back - which is what you want.

Only cons were 1)I have a Toyota 4Runner and the window goes completely down and the tailgate/hatch completely lifts up, so not ideal to mount the rear on the window. 2) No Micro SD memory card included.

All in all - excellent dash camera setup.

Nice camera to have for my safety and documenting

This unit comes with a front camera to install on the front windshield, a rear camera to install on the rear windshield, wiring to the power outlet, wiring to the rear camera, and a tool and adhesives.

Setting up this camera takes a little bit of work to make it look clean and proper. Once installation is complete, it's a nice little system to have to document your daily drives. The system takes a little bit of time to learn and get used to the buttons and interface. Once installed, it records on a loop so that it can keep documentation of things you may want to have on file. I'm hoping that I can capture something on video if I need to if something was to ever happen.

The wires are probably the hardest part of this install for a novice like me. Fortunately Rexing provides a tool that can help you wedge the wires into spaces in your cars moldings. I was able to do this easily and make it look like a clean install without hanging wires everywhere. The camera takes a nice clear picture and it can record in 1080p and higher formats.

I purchased a separate 64 gb micro SD card to go with this in order to utilize the cameras recording ability so I can play this back on to my computer in case I need to record something for upload to YouTube or such. There is an app for Rexing that you can download as well. I tried it for ios on my iPhone XR, but the app was pretty useless and didn't function properly at all.

Overall this is my first ever vehicle camera and I'm happy with it. It's given me some peace of mind for having a big brother eye on my car while I do my best to drive safe on the roads. I wanted a camera like this to document the crazy and unsafe drivers all around me on my daily commute and car pools. Hopefully having this will benefit me in an insurance issue if something arises in the future.

Very nice Dual Camera HD Dash Cam

This is my first ever Dash Cam. This V1P Pro offers a lot of nice features, such as front and back camera’s with nice HD 170° ultra-wide-angle lenses. It offers loop recording, Wi-Fi interface for viewing on you smart phone, built in GPS logger and even collision detection.

    Reviews:

INSTALL - Install went pretty smoothly. I have a 2017 Honda Accord. I simply used the furnished plastic tool to help me snake the cables behind the rubber seal that goes around all the interior panels. I mounted on the top left corner of the windshield to keep it out of my center view.

(This is a fairly large unit even in the top left, but I am getting used to it over time.)

    Cable are plenty long.

Before sticking the mounts to the windshield I powered up the unit to make sure my orientation and line of sight was all correct. (I highly recommend this as it would be difficult to remove the adhesive once it is in place). The Back cam has a nice up and down swivel adjustment and the front camera lens is on a ball and socket type of swivel to get the best angle. I was a little worried about getting a good picture since my windshield curves in where I mounted it, but the lens moved enough to get a good angle. I only used 2 of the windshield clips on the cords where they exit the roof liner, otherwise I found by disconnecting cables to remove the unit I would pull the cables back out of the roof liner. I did install a 64 MB mini SD card for storage (not included). 64MB will get you 7-10 hours of recording depending on the camera resolution – 128MB - 14-20 hours

Overall a pretty smooth install. I would say maybe 30 Minutes.

OPERATION – I’m the kind of guy that does not want to pull out a Manual, but I did find and needed to for this unit. The menus and button control have a small learning curve. I would say that the user interface could use a cleanup, or add a couple more hardware buttons. I found myself leaving the manual in the car in case I needed it for reference.

Once you have this system installed, all you do is forget about it. You start your car and it starts recording automatically.

You can select from a couple of different resolution setting for the front and back camera, and you also have the choice of turning the microphone off so it will record no audio. Another option you have is turning the screen saver on. I set mine to turn the screen off after 1 minute. I did not have this ON at first and it got awfully annoying at night to have a bright screen lit up in your field of view.

Speaking of field of view…There is a red light that flashes behind the center two buttons while powered ON (indicates RECORD mode). I do wish you could disable this as this bright red LED behind these button shows up in the gap between these buttons and shine in your eye, (mostly noticeable at night). Not a huge deal, but I do find annoying.

I did have a little trouble connecting to the Wi-Fi of my phone, my phone’s said I was not connected, but when I looked at the head unit it stated I actually was though and connection was made.

PLAYBACK – You can view videos on your smart phone using the Wi-Fi connection and the ‘Rexing Connect’ APP, or you can view on your PC.

To playback your video’s on your PC you can remove your SD card to transfer the files, or plug your front camera unit into your computer via the USB cord. Either way, playback will be faster and more stable if you transfer your videos to your hard drive before viewing.

Now you simply download the GPS Logger Software from Rexings website and install. (Side note – When I first started the software, all the menus were in Chinese, but once I closed and reopened the software it then changed to English). Once you install the software, you simply open the video file(s) you would like to view. The playback shows, the video (front OR back Cam) along with speed, date, time, longitude and latitude and even a speed curve. There are also areas for G- Sensor data and Acceleration. (These were blank on my viewing, perhaps this is only populated after a crash).

I would like the ability to view the video from the front and back cameras at the same time. I could only find a way to view one camera at a time.

    OVERVIEW / FINAL THOUGHTS –

    PROS:

Once set up, easy to use (Fairly easy set up in my case)

Nice picture quality from both cameras – Day and night

Decent Software showing all basic info

    GPS

    Video Looping

    Wide angle lens

    CONS:

Flashing red light under buttons (maybe being a little picky here)

    Pretty large front camera unit

    User interface could be cleaner

Unable to playback both camera views through software

No Battery (must be plugged in for power)

Overall, I am pretty happy with this unit. The cons stated above do not affect the basic function of what this unit is meant to do..Capture video.

If you are in the market for a dash cam, I would not hesitate to recommend this one.

I personally don’t NEED one, but it sure give you a sense of security knowing if something happens, you have record of the facts

BIG unit provides HQ dual-cam video w/few issues

    PROs:

    - Sharp (though admittedly tiny) LCD display provides real-time picture-in-picture view of front and rear cams with the ability to switch between views on the fly

    - Rexing Connect app and built-in WiFi allows a smartphone to be used as a live monitor, control device settings, and even serve as a simple viewer/editor for videos and pictures without having to remove the SD card from the unit

    - Onboard GPS sensor (no external puck needed!) provides time, location/speed data for tagging videos and images; you can further customize the display overlay to include your license plate if you wish

    - JMS video player (download from Rexing's website) allows simplistic video playback/snipping along with display of sync'd GPS time, map, and speed sensor data for each clip or image

    - Very clear/clean video regardless of operational mode--dual 1080p/30fps recording with rear camera in operation and up to 2160p/24fps with front cam alone; audio pickup was sensitive enough to make out conversations in back seat over the radio

    - Included manual claims max microSD card capacity is 128GB though the website and my experience indicate that a 256GB microSD will also work just fine

    - Box includes a VERY secure mounting system for the main unit (slide-click tabs), a pry tool for headliner/body panels, and a connecting cable long enough to reach most installation locations for the rear camera

    - The loop recording mode is greatly appreciated as I don't have to manually sift through useless video files--the camera will record over the oldest unlocked video file if my SD card runs out of room--and the adjustable gravity/impact setting will lock a video against being overwritten if a collision is detected

    CONs:

    - There are no two ways around it--the front camera unit is BIG. Yeah, it's got the camera, screen, controls, and GPS hardware built-in, but you have to mount it near the headliner in order to use the downward sloping/facing screen and still have convenient access to the controls...it doesn’t take up a huge amount of real estate in my field of view relatively speaking, but it’s definitely noticeable. What’s more, it’s deep enough that it may impact how far forward you can angle your sun visor

    - You've got to be 100% certain you're all in for a dash-cam--a neat/secure installation will require 3M adhesive patches on the windshield and some deft cable routing underneath the headliner (or around the floorboards, or both) to get the dual cameras powered without long wires dangling in your field of view. At the very least, you can't set this camera up on a suction mount near your dash to see if you like it first given the orientation of the controls/screen...it has to be installed HIGH on the windshield

    - Unless you opt for the $10 hard wire kit, you will eat a cigarette lighter/12V socket with the power adapter for this unit--there is no onboard battery (Rexing claims it's for the supercapacitor to provide stable power in extreme temps) or pass-through 12V power adapter. If you normally run a GPS or other 12V item in your vehicle (USB charger, perhaps?), you'll need to figure out another way to power one unit or the other (or get a splitter)

    - The rear camera swivels almost fully around forward to back so there shouldn't be many situations where it can't be mounted on a rear windshield. But do be aware that the switch on the back unit only changes horizontal orientation; it doesn't flip it vertically as some have complained (note that the manual never claimed the switch was for vertical picture flip in the first place--see page 28). Bottom line—you need to audition the setup on the dash-cam's display BEFORE pulling the plastic off the cam's adhesive backing and sticking it to your rear window because you won’t be able to correct a flipped image in software/via settings

    - You can get used to it relatively quickly, but the user interface could use a little TLC. The two center buttons (Rec and Mic) have horizontal arrows on them to make it easy to scroll left to right through recorded videos/images. However, LCD screen navigation uses those buttons as up/down arrows, but also mixes the hard button icons with the navigation directionals on the screen in such close proximity that you eventually have all the arrows sitting right on top of each other—but all menu navigation on screen are vertically oriented. It's a little thing, but why not make the menu navigation match the printing that's already on the illuminated buttons so you don't have to put any prompts on the screen at all?

-- What's worse is that a large 'OK' image on the screen is placed right above the physical Menu button, and what looks like a menu icon is located to the far left over the physical 'OK' button. Here's the rub--if you press the physical button under the screen image of the OK function, you actually exit out of the menu entirely rather than just selecting the highlighted option on the screen (the “OK”), but if you press the button that the LCD display indicates is the Menu//back button, you actually change your selection on the menu rather than go back one level or exit the menu system entirely

    - Sigh…another app that requires an account creation/log-in to reach full functionality. Fortunately, this seems to only effect you can still browse videos/images and adjust unit settings without having to create an account if you wish…that, at least, is a welcome relief from so many other apps that require you to surrender all your personal details before you can even start activating "standard" features that are supposed to be available right out of the box

    Summary review:

This is a full-featured dual-cam setup that provides excellent quality video and enough hardware in the box to get you going in both forward and rear-facing setups. Yeah, video quality takes a bit of a hit up front if you run in dual-cam mode, but I'm not sure who really needs 4K video in a dash-cam setup anyway (maybe I'm not really the target demographic for this device). Installation takes a bit of time and [probably] know-how, or even a professional, if you want it to look good/neat...this isn't a dash-cam that actually sits on your dash so you need to be patient and deliberate about camera placement on the windshield and routing the power and connecting cables above and below your line of sight.

I'm not sure how hard a pass-thru 12V power adapter would be but it would have been nice not to sacrifice my only 12V plug to keep this unit running--I went low-rent with a splitter but I've seen the hard wire kit here on Best Buy that I'll probably pick up at some point down the road. Maybe it's just me, but I've seen WiFI radios fit into smaller enclosures than the one used for the rear camera so the thick mini USB to mini USB coupler cable that runs from the front camera to the back feels a little clunky and was certainly a bit of trouble to snake around to the back of the vehicle. What about a hard wire running power from the rear camera to a running/tail light, then just stream the rear image to the front regardless of how far back it is--especially as the onboard WiFi already allows me to stream from the main unit to a cell phone or tablet. Installation notes/observations aside, be aware that this unit comes with no onboard storage of any kind, so unless you plan to stream to your cell phone exclusively, you need to plan on a separate micro SD card purchase at a minimum (Rexing actually has very specific recommendations about which cards are suitable for dash cam use so do a little research ahead of time if you plan to maximize your experience).

Other than the usability niggles noted in the interface, the size of this unit is a bit of a turn-off (for me)...maybe it's not THAT much bigger than competing models, but it definitely doesn't hide away behind the rear-view mirror, and in fact really needs to be right up front at the top of your windshield so you can use the controls and navigate the menus. Normally, that might not be a problem, but I'm a tall driver in a fairly small car; for me, the V1P Pro does intrude a bit on my field of view even though it's not all that big in the hand. But otherwise, there's not much to complain about. If you've got the itch to get a dash cam mounted in your vehicle, this one provides a lot of capability, crash/accident-sensitive features that preserve your recordings, the ability to monitor and playback recordings via WiFi without having to touch the card inside, and it offers high quality video to boot--definitely a safe bet if you're in the market!

    Awesome dash cam

This dash cam is great. Be aware that if you want to have the camera on when the car is off and you are away from the car, you need to install it in a particular setting. At first I was afraid it would drain my battery. So far it hasn't. Great camera.

Compact front and back dash cam

I wanted discreet compact dash cam for both front and back. This is compact has all the function i was looking for.

I wanted no screen. Fast video download via builtin wifi with a app.

Thin and long wires for rear camera which some brands you would need to pay extra for. I have three row SUV it made it to the rear window hiding long wires under panels. Working very good so far only con is sensitivity is little high on continuous recording when u hit a uneven surface it starts to record.

Clear video and does the job

Awesome product. The replay is clear and its not too difficult to navigate. Only confusing part was connecting to the app. It only connects for me if the car is on. I did not know the only way to see videos was connect but it is not a deal breaker. You can save/download the videos to the app and replay as much as you want but this is after they are saved thus allowing you to view with or without a connection

Terrible as a backup cam, decent as a dash cam.

Purchased mainly for its backup camera feature. Received it and was happy to install it. The mirror itself was easy to install and use as a front dash cam. The issues arose once I tried to install the rear camera, not because of the install but rather because of the way the camera is made and how it’s displayed on the mirro screen. For some reason when sat perfectly level, the camera was tilted amd the feed was at an angle which looked weird. Additionally, the backup camera is too zoomed in and makes everything look super close even if you have room left. We tried in different scenarios and adjusted the camera location many times, it just wouldn’t work properly. The backup camera lines and zoom arent able to be adjusted meaning you’re screwed if you want to use it to back up correctly. Ended up returning it and buying a standalone backup camera. Perhaps its good as a dash cam because the quality of the feed wasn’t bad, but for my intended use it wasnt good. It does have cool features such as blind spot monitor, so as long as you’re not using it as a backup camera you should be fine.

    Absolutely awesome. Almost Amazing.

i am in love with my new dash cam. i can record the front AND the back while also doubling up as a backup camera when i reverse. as far as i can tell, it is able to record sounds, speed, direction, time, and it records the front in 2k and the rear in 1080. it doesn't come with a micro-SD card so without it you can still use it as a rear-view camera. it has sensors for backing up and for assisted driving. this thing made just brought my 2012 onto 2025 no joke way ahead of the stock tech most cars come with. the biggest let down to me was the fact that i couldn't see the front and the back at the same time i can only see one or the other. there's another brand sold by best buy that has more capability such as simultaneous view, and a better price range, but there's a reason why this one ultimately wins in my book.

it is not better than the other brand mirror dash cam best buy has for sale, but this one can be bought with a proprietary hardwire kit, which means you don't have to use up the cigarette lighter in the car and can instead be connected out of sight to the cars fuse box. WAY easier to do than it sounds, and best buy did a great job at cable management. there's way to do this with dash cams that don't come with proprietary cabling but ultimately this was the way to do it for me since i eliminate compatibility issues since its made to work together.

    Great Product

Both front and rear cameras are great quality and clear resolution. I love that it records both front and back up camera the entire time it is running. I had it installed and works great. The back up camera is a little big but I can deal with it. The only major issue I have is the mirror does not fit properly to my car. If the connections where located on the sides or bottom it would not be an issue. I would recommend this for sure.

Decent rear viewing, not ideal for backing up

This is a decent product that gives your car a unique look.

    PROS:

    * Crisp and clear front and rear video

    * Easy to toggle between front and back

    * Can be turned off to use just as a mirror

    * Has a few safety features to go with it

    CONS:

    * After a few hours continued use it starts to blank out

    * Picture freezes and sometimes won't work at all

    * Camera has to be mounted inside the car rather than outside

    * Camera angle doesn't camera make it clear how close the vehicle is to backing up to an object

    * Reset button should be underneath the mirror not back of it

It is a cool product to have as it makes viewing your rear in a different light. For those who don't drive much it is great to have. As a backup camera to assist with parking, not that great.

Installed this rear view mirror dashcam on my 2013 Tiguan without backup camera to help me back out of parking space and record video if any accident happen. The lane assist and blind spot assist was an added bonus. The whole process to install the mirror was pretty straight forward and really easy to do. Couldn’t be more happy with this purchase.

    Awesome camera, well worth it

I recently was involved in a crash where the person who caused it ran, though he was still caught by the police. Since then I decided to buy. Dash camera and picked this one. I’ll admit this one is expensive , but well worth it. When researching cameras, I found you literally get what you pay for. If it’s cheap, it’s cheap for a reason. It could be because it’s lacking features and/or is lower quality video.

The quality on this one is ridiculous. The rear camera is great also. I can literally zoom in on a car and read the tag of a car in front of me.

With this setup (front and rear camera), you’ll get everything you’d want. It even records audio if you choose and can speed stamp the recordings as well.

It can also be connected to the internet and track your routes. Plus it has parking mode as well.

Though I’d recommend getting the radar and possibly the in car battery as well. You can’t use parking mode without the camera being hardwired to the car and the battery makes it so the camera draws from the battery before it draws from the car battery and it lasts for supposedly 48 hours and only requires roughly 2 hours of driving to completely recharging it.

Also since the video quality is so high, you’ll want a 128GB MicroSD card also.

So again, the only downside would be that this setup is so expensive but it is well worth it.

These are the prices I’ve found for each part for the camera:

Front and rear combo ~ $500

    Motion radar sensor - $100

    In-car battery ~ $250

    128GB MicroSD ~ $50

    Hardwire install ~ $100

I also attached a few photos from the cameras.

Great Front/Rear Pair for Pickup Trucks

High quality images, excellent control choices for what you choose as “events”, and nicely self-divided folders for organizing them. Had some difficulty connecting my Samsung S21 Ultra phone to the unit but Best Buy was able to help me get the network settings reconfigured. Unobtrusive camera mounts and wiring but have Best Buy do the installation: they know how to hide and connect the wiring harnesses. My pickup has a sliding center rear window and they were going to mount the rear camera off-center, but for the few times I use that window it is easiest to center the camera and simply unplug the rear cable when I want to use the window.

    Crystal Clear Camera

Excellent crystal clear camera. I bought the front and back camera for my car. I’ve never had an issue with the front camera, but the back camera became detached from its adhesive pad. I have it on an suv back hatch so the wire has to be free enough to raise and lower. I think it caught on something I had loaded in the back and was ripped down. Other than that, it’s been great.

If possible try something else cheaper.

I pick this Thinkware because the offer 4k quality, but the quality is not clear as I thought it would be. I have a really hard time reading license plate of driving record on the road. I can only see it when my car is really close to other cars. Night vision suck and unrealible. I got hit and run and the video recording suck. The recoding can not even capture the colors of the car. They offer impact notification on the phone, but I got no notification and the camera did not download the impact either.

    Worth The Investment

Purchased in early January and have had three months of use. All features performing as advertised and extremely pleased. There is a "learning curve" for a first time user of a webcam (that's me) and I found Thinkware customer support to be fantastic. The cam was installed by Geek Squad and I would give them four stars. They didn't install "exactly" where we discussed on the windshield, but did so once acknowledged. Whoever you have install, review beforehand the installation guidelines available from Thinkware so there will be no misunderstanding.

    Thinkware U1000 2Ch kit

Has most features - except for parking radar. Radar cost $100 more. In my opinion not worth it - if they break in they’ll take the dash cam anyway. if your car has a switched fuse or switched cigarette lighter it’s easy to install yourself - comes complete with wiring. Bought this on sale from best buy - $100 off. I also bought EchoMaster OBD wiring and radar from Amazon but return both. Best to buy from big chain like best buy - easy return. Bought EchoMaster from Amazon and it was missing the ignition module - what a hassle.

be careful with the GPS - it does capture your speed - so it you share the video in a police or accident report you can be ticketed too

Lack of Knowledge, mislead wrong item to order

The cam initially chosen and purchased was discarded and was told it would not fit the model of my Jeep. Then after the made for my Jeep arrived, it couldn't be installed for the make of my Jeep even though I was told that is what I needed by Koby, I was told it would not fit, so the initial cam ordered is the one Koby ended up installing. I feel I was mislead, Koby didn't know the best item for my vehicle, my time going back and forth, to end up with the same item ordered. Then sent back the steering wheel controls, could not be installed after being told it could be installed, its like a lot of unnecessary going back and forth, and lack of Knowledge thereof to know what's required, the frustrations of my Jeep installations, I want what I ordered and was told to fit my Jeep, I purchased everything needed at BestBuy, under the impression I would have what I was told when I was given the turn around and back and forth. I want everything installed on my Jeep that I purchased initially, as every part was designed for my Jeep, make, model and year.

    Good Monitor - Unreliable Mount

This is a kit that includes monitor, wiring and mount. I had the Geek Squad install it on the dashboard of my 2004 pickup. The monitor is paired with a backup cam (another brand) and the pairing functions well. The problem though--and I consider this a real problem with the iBEAM product--is that the circular, double sided adhesive pad included for use with the mount, failed almost immediately. The monitor is now dangling loose on my dashboard at the end of its cable because, while the suction cup still sticks to the mounting disc, the adhesive has completely given up on holding the mounting disc to the dashboard. I am now shopping for aftermarket adhesive pads. We'll see if any I find will stick better than the pad that came with this kit. Overall, I'm somewhat disappointed.

Just about 360 protection for your vehicle

This camera comes with everything you need to help protect your car. MPH display and parking mode are my fav. I can see what’s going on behind me and I’m front. The quality of the video is pretty good but I wish they would include a cheap filter to try out for the back window because that camera has a lot of reflection in certain lighting. Overall it’s. A solid camera. There isn’t a way to change the amount of recording time so it goes by 60 seconds at a time.

    Decent for the price

Relatively easy installation. The audio and video quality are decent for the price. Connecting to the app requires you to connect your phone's wifi to the camera's wifi in order to review footage, but this can easily be bypassed by just removing the SD card and watching on a computer.

The G-force sensor - the feature where it will automatically save footage when it detects a collision - is pretty sensitive and goes off even when you drive over bumps in the road or go over speed bumps.

The size of the actual camera is small enough that it can be hidden pretty well behind the rear view mirror, which is good for keeping a low profile to prevent theft.

    Overall, good product.

Excellent Dasm cam with 1 flaw

Great all around dash cam. Easy setup and great parking mode features. The only reason it gets four stars is because you can only access footage or the dashcam features in general when your vehicle is on(if you have it hardwired which i would highly recommend). It would be nice to be able to access footage that has been recorded through the app without having the dash cam on. Other than that this is a great buy

    Great Gadget!!! Well Worth It!!!

So far, so good!!! It lets you know when you are parked, so that it immediately starts recording, to ensure that if someone either goes into the vehicle or hits it, you will have visual proof. I love it!!! The only drawback is that I purchased a 128 gig sd card, but it’s way too big. It takes a card that is similar to the SIM card for phones. I wish someone would have stated that before.

    Rear camera useless; gets hot

This is my first dash cam. I researched quite a bit before picking this one based on the overwhelming positive reviews. However, I am a bit disappointed.

The front camera is nice, bright and sharp, but the rear camera is useless. The picture from the rear camera is EXTREMELY DARK, day or night, even when I set the brightness to the highest. It's impossible to see any license plate or much of anything except for the huge sky.

The app with wifi viewing is nice to have.

I am a bit concerned that the device gets burning hot after some time, even on a day that's not really that hot (under 80) and even when the device is not exposed to the sun.

Good dashcam, app needs some work

This is great for the price, I got it on sale for $200 I believe. The video quality is good, its super easy to get set up if you want to just plug it into your cigarette lighter, but it also has the option to hardwire it which is what my husband did. We have this for both of our cars now. It's

really helpful to be able to use an app to find a recording, that was one of our criterias for a dashcam was it having an app. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because the videos are saved in 1 minute increments. This sometimes makes finding the clip your looking for tedious, especially if you had been driving a lot and dont know or remember the exact time of the instance you are looking for. As far as I know you can only download one clip at a time and it does take a little bit but not too long. Playback is very laggy when you dont have the video downloaded, AND when you "download" a video when connected to the dashcam its actually just saving it to the app and you still have to save it separately to your phone once it's been downloaded to the app.

    Great camera for the value

Great quality dash cam. Everything you could possibly need to install this is included. Installation took 15-30 minutes to hardwire both cameras and power. Parking mode switches on when the vehicle is turned off and locked, and then swaps over to continuous recording or other option you can choose when setting up the camera. The app is a bit touchy but is very responsive and easy to use once you get used to it.

    No frills

This backup camera works exactly as I expected. It is a great if not perfect awareness tool for older vehicles without parking sensors or a backup camera. This camera isn’t super fancy but it just plain works. I set mine up to be on when I need or want it as my vehicle has poor visibility out the rear window. I always wondered how close other drivers were getting while I was stopped and now I know. It makes backing up much less stressful as I always have a stiff neck or back when I attempt to turn around in my seat to look. This camera truly helps increase my overall awareness when backing or driving.

I already have the Garmin DriveSmart 65 so this was a natural add on. A perfect solution would be aftermarket dash display and wired camera, but this is very good second choice. I was afraid that the radio signal would be poor, but it has worked out great. The picture is great, especially on the 6.5” screen. It was easy to install, just mount it behind the license plate. I will say the 1996 Jeep Cherokee and 2009 Camry are little on the tight side with the plate recess, but it mounted well. I would have liked to mount it above the plate, but the mount allows you to put it above the top or or front of the top of the license plate.

I deducted a star because the GPS doesn’t always connect. I realize it's the vagaries of radio connection, but every once in a while, and it always seems like when you really need it to in a strange place, it decides that it won't connect. The “wait” indicator just spins until it declares it can’t connect, check batteries, etc. The next time I turn the car on (where power on default is to connect to camera), it always works just fine. It is not enough of a problem that I regret buying it.

I have had it 5 months and changed the batteries once. It is on it’s second set of batteries now (and driving much less due to COVID-19.)

It works well and I’m glad I bought it.

Not FOR TOWING, Cars & SUVs ONLY

RANGE RANGE RANGE I had a 20' trailer and a Tahoe, I could connect all the way up to the rear passenger door but as soon as got to the driver's door, that was it! You'd think they could have boosted the strength at least another 10-15'. IF you want it for a car/SUV, not a bad choice, decent picture and linked w/Garmin GPS

Nice to have a backup camera on my van. Just wish there was some kind of lock, when you go to a store or any wear anyone could walk by and take it off. so I take it off each time.

I don’t like the ease of removing it. I think Garmin could have made it more secure from theft. That said, it was easy to set up and connects every time with a clear image.

Does not work even for a sedan. Very flimsy.

I installed it on my sedan. The GPS unit sits on the dash, left of the driver. I only get the camera working 1 out of 5 times. Rest of the times I would get a time out.

The camera itlself sticks out like a sour thumb. It is heavy because of the batteries and is held in place by a cheap plastic snapping mechanism that I am sure will break in less than 6 months. Or it might snap off if you slam close the trunk.

    Complete garbage.

Great system. Do not go with low price.

This is the second product I ordered from Best Buy. The first failed 3 times before moving to this unit. The display is much better (bigger, great clarity). The most significant factor is the Geek Squad. They replaced the first system 3 times with no complaints. After the 3rd failure they helped me select a better replacement with a very modest extra cost.

Good, easy-to-install cam with some caveats

So I purchased and self-installed the EchoMaster Wireless Back-Up Camera about 3 weeks ago and have been road-testing it before I reviewed it. I did a lot of research and weighed my options before deciding to go with this unit, but I don't think it's quite the perfect set up for everyone.

    PROS:

    :: Easy to install ::

Having installed or helped install a few wired cameras, I can say that this unit was definitely *easier* to install than most, but it's still an undertaking for the typical person. What makes it easier in my opinion is, of course, being a wireless unit it requires less wire-running throughout the length of the car. You basically only have to run power from the camera itself to the tail light/reverse light, then plug the receiver into the back of your head unit and tap power there. You do not have to run wiring throughout the side of the car and then up through the steering column, which definitely saves a good chunk of time.

Also, and this was a BIG deal for me, you're running 2 thin wires down to your tail lights (one for power, one that connects to a small wireless transmitter). All of the wired units that I've seen prior have a big thick RCA cable, and trying to run this through the rubber wiring harness in most vehicles can be a humongous pain in the butt. This slipped through considerably easier and definitely saves a lot of times and frustration.

    :: Reliable ::

The idea of wireless concerned me a bit, but so far, it turns on and works 100% of the time without issue. I have mine connected to my reverse light, so that it automatically enables when I place my car into reverse, and it comes on without fail. It takes exactly 3 seconds to kick in, which is perhaps slightly slower than most built-in back-up cams (my wife's brand new Pacifica takes about 2 seconds, for example), but certainly not "slow" by any definition.

    :: Style ::

The style of the camera works with most vehicles optimally. It installs behind the license plate, therefore covering all of the mounting and wiring and leaving only the camera exposed. Those people that have to have visible license plate stickers will appreciate that it will not cover them up whatsoever.

    :: Visibility ::

Some back-up cams become useless at night or in low-light conditions; this unit still allows good visibility in said conditions, although the image quality does suffer (I'll get into that more below).

    CONS:

    :: Image Quality ::

The image quality on this camera is mediocre, at best. Everything is certainly visible and distinguishable, so in that it does it's job sufficiently, but it does have the general picture quality of a 10-year old webcam. Most things have a muted, slightly blurry appearance and there are some artifacts present in all but the sunniest of conditions. At night, there is a lot of grain and visual noise. If you want the best image quality you can find, this isn't where you'll find it. But it is adequate for what it is.

    :: Framerate ::

While in motion, everything seems to have a slight "stutter" to it, as if the framerate is lower than average. I would assume this is due to it being a wireless connection, and I somewhat expected it to be honest, but it's something you will notice if you're coming from a traditional wired back-up cam. It is not a reason NOT to buy it, in my opinion.

    :: No Back-Up Guidelines ::

Some people don't care about this, but it's important to know. This cam does not have any sort of built-in visual back-up guidelines to display on-screen. A lot of cams include this functionality, whereas some (including EchoMaster's wired version of this same cam) include dynamic guidelines that move with the steering wheel. The guidelines shown in the attached image are generated by my head unit directly, so most people will likely still have this option regardless.

    In Conclusion:

Weighing all of the above from my experience, I would *still* recommend this unit to someone, but only in the context that you're going to install it yourself. Paying for installation can get pricey, and buying a $30 unit online and paying someone $150 to install it will end up costing you more than the price of this cam. Because this cam is legitimately easier to install, the more premium upfront price is definitely worth it.

If you're planning on having someone professionally install it, you may be better served to research some wired options and see if they would provide better image quality for the dollar spent.

All in all, though, I'm happy with the unit and it meets the basic needs of what it's supposed to be. It's already shown that it can handle buckets of rain and pretty decently cold temps (near 0 already here in the Chicagoland area the past few weeks) without slowing down.

Bad resolution + Lag = Unusable

The screen resolution is pretty bad and has a lag that makes it barely useful in perfect conditions. Also, the field of view is fairly narrow. In perfect daylight conditions, you can sort of make out the objects in view, but the lag (video delay) is bad enough that you definitely can't use the camera to back up in real time--only to check for large objects before backing up. At night, it is simply terrible--can't see a thing. I bought brighter reverse lights to help its night resolution, but it didn't help at all. I tried to like it, but I have concluded it is unusable after having it for 2 months.

    Meh...

Just outside of the warranty period this camera decided to stop working. Here's hoping Cameron number two lasts longer

It works kinda please read full explination

I have a 96 f800 with a giant metal work bed. And i think thats part of my problem and the camera is like 18 ft from the screen. I am gonna try to relocate it and see if a near line of sight helps any. Also the screen seems to keep getting a signal from local wfis? In the city i have that problem but out in the country i dont seem to. Even when the truck is shut down. ( power outlet is always hot). If it doesnt work relocated im gonna install on my wifes van and im pretty sure it will work fine.

    Not worth the money

I thought this would be a good camera. I was wrong put vehicle In reverse camera comes on and display looks like a black and white TV from 50 yrs ago fuzzy picture and fades in and out. Blue tooth doesn't work that well. Installed in a F150 crew cab.

At first install tech and I thought it might be the cold weather as it was single digits when installed but the weather is in the 40s now and still same issue. Will be taking it out and going a different route.

    Not a happy camper.

I’m sorry I have to rate this product a 1 star. Great product! Great picture quality, but the only problem I had was plugging the charger into the actual screen and for it not to work properly. I put the charger in a few times to test it out to make sure I could see a picture and it was very clean for a small amount of time and when I attempted to use it throughout the day the picture would go in and out and then the charger port felt like it was loosening. Very sensitive port as I used precaution to put the the cord in the side of the screen to charge correctly. Very disappointed.

    monitor was DOA

instalation on our motor home was easy enough. When we went to go plug in the monitor and test it the monitor turned on and we were setting the time when it died on us and the screen went garbled. Wish we tried installing it sooner it was the end of our camping season when we bought it last year and finally got around to installing it. we have reached out to the company. If this gets fixed we would be excited to use it and leave a better review.

    It works great

Our younger daughter got a hand me down old Prius (2010) from her uncle. She got her license not too long ago, and we were very worried. We got this camera on the license plate and monitor facing her placed on the left side of her windshield. She had problems parking in the reverse. After this, she has had no problems. The images are very clear- but at nighttime they do flicker but you still can make out the objects. But that is to be expected in almost total darkness.

ended up not getting it installed

I ended up taking it back because there wasn't a place to put it on my dashboard that I was happy with. The installer was really impatient and wanted me to just stick it in the middle of my dashboard and I didn't like how it looked.

I have no idea how well the camera and monitor actually function so I'll give it 3 stars just to be fair.
