Great Sony Boombox for my nightstand!

I use this Sony CD Boombox with my noise canceling headphones in the evenings. (I have never tried it for local radio stations.). I love the mega bass option. The CDs are easy to load in the top. It works so well for my purposes that I bought a second one.

It's ok for using in a dome. I used to have a super woofer surround sound system. This one sounds like a regular radio. I can't hear all the instruments sound. It may be good for apartment living as you don't want your neighbors complain noise. I am to check out an upgrade at Best buy.

    It's a novelty item

With a trained ear as a musician for most of my life, I appreciate good clarity. My opinions are based on that fact.

Growing up in the 80’s, I’ve had my share of Boomboxes. I have no idea what happened to any of them at this point, but I have been wanting something like that again for years, so I was excited to see a company actually take a shot at re-creating the much adored old skool Boombox. I do applaud ION for the retro look of this (I had one very similar way back), but that’s about where the cool ends for me. Personally, the most important part of a Boombox is the sound and this just fails. While it is not trying to compete with audiophile quality, it could still be loads better. You get a two band (Bass & Treble) EQ, plus Bass Boost and that isn’t enough for me to coax a pleasing sound. The speakers are small and thin sounding causing distortion a little past 50% volume. Bass boost is useless and only makes speakers distort worse. I have tried cassettes, Micro SD music, radio, as well as Bluetooth, and while all of these options work well (it’s nice to actually have a Cassette deck again), the sound quality ultimately ruins the vibe.

This is marketed as a modern version of a classic, which includes Bluetooth and an SD card slot. Bluetooth pairing with my Android phone was simple and flawless. Every time I flip the toggle to Bluetooth, it connects to my phone right away. The SD card slot is a welcome addition, but I have a couple of thoughts there as well. First off, why not include the more standard full size SD slot instead of a micro SD? I doubt there is a space issue, so that is odd. Secondly, there should definitely be a “shuffle” button included on the side controls for SD and/or USB device playback. Who really wants to listen to 8, 16, or 32 gigabytes of music all in a row?

The tuner seems solid and gets great reception in my area.

It includes an internal rechargeable battery. Very cool feature, but no sure how much time it will provide yet. There is also an option to load it up with six D cell batteries, but again I want to ask why? Why not use that space for a bigger internal rechargeable battery instead? Maybe even make it a battery that can be ejected and replaced over time.

Conclusion… Nicely built, solid sounding, aesthetically pleasing Boomboxes were all the rage in my youth. I can only hope that other companies climb on board the retro wagon and start reproducing some of the classic Boomboxes of Generation X. Let’s also hope that if they do, they focus on sound quality a little more than this offering.

    PROS:

    Retro styling

    Internal rechargeable battery

Cassette deck and Radio work well

Built in mics so you can record straight to Cassettes/SD cards

    CONS:

Speakers are thin causing distortion a little past 50% volume

Bass boost is useless and only makes speakers distort worse

Some of the printed text on mine is smeared, giving it a more cheap look

Should use the D cell battery compartment for more internal battery

SD slot should be full size

No “shuffle” button for SD cards

    A blast from the past

The Ion Boombox Deluxe does a great job at bringing old technology and integrating it with modern day tech. For those of you that grew up in the 80s and 90s this is a sure fire way to bring you back those long summer days with friends by the pool or beach. Lets dive in to this little piece of nostalgia and see what you can expect to receive from this set up.

First off out of the box your going to receive the main boombox, power cord and instructions. First off i want to say this unit looks just like a old school boombox with a built in cassette player that i grew up listening to. It seems that Ion really wanted to focus on making this unit a real life replica of what we all grew up with. Let me explain what i mean by this. It has a functioning AM/FM digital receiver that works with a side mount turn dial knob. The cassette player isn't just for looks but actually plays cassettes and lets you record on to them. Here's the really cool part about the cassette player being able to record. You can record directly off the radio station or you can record on to a cassette off of your own custom playlist rather it be through bluetooth or the side mounted usb or micro SD ports. It has working left and right VU level gauges along with a functioning scale. The top of the stereo features three turn style knobs for volume, bass and treble. On the other side you have three throw switches for am/fm, mono/stereo/bass boost, and tape/aux/radio/usb. They even went as far as to throw in a functioning battery tray which allows for 6 D batteries. Yes this unit is rechargeable and runs off a built in rechargeable battery but what i found funny and kinda of nostalgic was the fact that in the instruction booklet they even say that if you want to feel more like the past they provided a battery tray so that you can install batteries which will power it just like when you were a kid. Gotta love the attention to detail! This unit will connect to your phone through bluetooth so that during bbq's or parties you can play all your favorite jams off of Spotify or Google Play Music. Now lets chat for a moment about sound quality. If sound quality is a big deal to you then i advise you stay away from this unit. Sound quality coming off of this boombox isn't horrible but isn't the best by any means. My first reaction when listening to music off of my Spotify playlist was " WOW this sounds just like the boombox i owned when i was i kid." Now don't get me wrong its not exactly that bad. The sound quality is clear and not all distorted like it was in the past its just that the quality sounds very plain. The bass boost function does little to no help in getting that extra bass out there. In fact when i switched the bass boost on, all it seemed to do was make the music louder. Obviously the drivers aren't the top of the line but that's ok. I would hope one would not buy this thinking they are going to get orchestra like quality but rather would buy this for its functionality and looks. This unit definitely grabs attention and so far everywhere i have taken it, it has definitely gotten good reaction from others. I've had some people wanting to buy it off of me just for the simple fact that it looks perfectly like the ones we group up with. This boombox even allows for you to answer calls and talk through the radio via the built in mic.

Overall guys this unit did a very good job at replicating something we all group with. Sound quality isn't superb so then why the 5 stars? Here's the reason why. Anytime i buy a replica of something from the past i expect it to be exactly like the item i remember owning with a touch of modern day technology. Everything on this unit functions and nothing is placed there just for aesthetics but rather brings it all together to make it feel like a genuine 80's boombox. Even though the sound quality isn't great that's ok because the sound quality was never good off of a boombox to begin with however its still way better sound quality than an actual original style boombox. The simple fact that you have an actual functioning cassette player and AM/FM tuner was a big plus. With the addition of a battery tray which holds 6 D batteries just like back in the days was a nice touch that made me laugh but in a good way. Over all this is a good unit and a good buy. If your looking for something to impress your friends with or a good piece to add to your blast from the past collection then i feel you will be greatly pleased. However if your sole concern is sound quality then stay away from this unit. Me however, i found this unit to fit me perfectly. If i want superb sound quality then i'll grab my Bose however when it comes to having friends over and BBQ, this is my go to unit.

Totally Awesome! I Mean Like... Totally!

TLDR Review: Is this the best Bluetooth stereo out there? No, not by a long shot. Is this the most RAD Bluetooth stereo to rock out your 80's playlist while sportin' your Member's Only jacket and breakdancing (or in my case, probably breaking my hip or my neck)? Yes, yes it is.

I love music and I collect music players of all sorts and I have really loved the advent of either retrofitting old devices with new tech or styling the devices like their older counterparts. I have originals like a 1919 standing Victrola that works beautifully and I have a bluetooth radio build into an old early '60s Zenith clock radio, among a lot of others. When I saw the ION Audio Boombox Deluxe I knew I had to add it to the collection since I had a boombox pretty close to this in the 80's. There were many evenings at the youth center practicing my non-existent breakdancing moves on cardboard in the common room. The music was awesome but my talent was about what you would expect from a nerdy 10 year old white kid with all the rhythm of Steve Martin from 'The Jerk'. (WOW, did I just feel old right then).

While this is not the best bluetooth radio, it has the benefit of being a cool reproduction, getting EXTREMELY loud - almost booming if you will, and it can can play music from the radio, bluetooth, tape, micro-sd card, and USB sticks. The Boombox Deluxe pretty much has you covered. On top of that you can also record to tape from those other sources or to the SD-card or USB if you want! Here comes the mix-tape/SD-card combo pack!

The battery life is pretty good. At first I was a bit disappointed that I did not get the rated 10 hours that ION claims but it turns out that I did not properly top off the charge when I got it. I did plug it in when I received it but the charging light did not come on. Looking in the users guide, it said that the light is off when fully charged so I assumed it was already at 100% and I unplugged it right away. I ended up getting 7 hours and 45 minutes out of it before it died. I went to plug it in to recharge it and the light still didn't come on. Couldn't find anything in the users guide about charging other than 'plug it in', so I went online and found that not only do you have to plug it in, you must also flip the switch on the back of the Boombox to activate AC use. This needs to be done if you are listening to it while plugged in AND also to get it to charge the built in battery! Would have been nice to know. The only thing it says about that power switch is on pg. 7 and that it is there to turn the device on or off. I'm still not sure what all that switch is for since the 'MODE' switch on the top turns it on regardless of which that way that On/Off switch is set. I think it must be more for directing current from the AC cord or if you want to power it from D-Cell batteries (which you can also do).

My only other grumble about the Boombox Deluxe is the fact that the level meters (both the analog needles and the lights) don't really work unless you have it on radio or tape and have the volume up to ear-splitting levels. Would have been nice if they were a bit more sensitive to actually work at reasonable volume levels. For that and the whole power issue, I would knock of 1/2 a star if I could but since I can't, and I'm so geeked by the nostalgia factor, I'll give it the full 5-stars. Now if you'll excuse me I have to go grab my Members Only jacket (yes, I do, in fact have one - they are still made believe it or not) and a few my old tapes the I dug out of storage (REM 'Green' and Madonna 'Like a Prayer', which BTW STILL smells like pachouli) and go blast this thing to bug all the old people!

    Great novelty boombox

This is the perfect boombox for a small gathering at the beach or pool. I will be honest, if you are looking for some thump, then this will be a hard pass; my UE Roll does a better job. But, if you are looking for something fun and portable, this will get the job done.

    Christmas CD Player

I love the music quality. It is nice to have a cd player, radio and cassette player all in one. My only problem is that I can not find a power button on the actual unit. Usually your first set of batteries come with the remote, but since they didn't I have not been able to find the power button. I love the unit other then that. I have even hooked up the Bluetooth to the device. The surround sound makes it sound like the bands are right in the house with me.

Can listen to 5 CDs one after another.

It has been so long since I 've been able to get lost in my music. But with the 5 CD changer I am in music heaven. Being able to play 5 CDs was the reason I purchased this item. The system does a lot and it has taken me a bit to get familiar with all the buttons. ECO will turn off main display. Have not figured out to keep the time on the display....but I will. And the music plays on.

This is not what I expected.

I purchased this stereo system, it was not what I expected. Without raising the base to level five sound sounds like crap. So you have to raise the base level to level five and it still sounds like crap you have to push the button for extra bass in order for you. To hear the sound that you should normally here at level five without extra bass. When you hit the button for extra bass it’s still not loud enough. When you hit the button to lower the volume level of the base level it will not go back down to level one it stays locked. And when you hit the CD open up the door for city one it opens up and closes instantly before you can even put the CD in. The font lettering on the stereo system is sooooooo small in print Font you can barely even read what it says the stereo system it’s not worth the price that they’re selling it for very disappointed also you cannot store your favorite radio stations with a remote control. You have to search for your favorite radio station. System is hard to set up for Bluetooth. Very unhappy with this product As you can see in the pictures you can’t even see the font lettering even up close in the picture. This is a crappy product. Not worth $219 with taxes

    Works fine.

This stereo has all of the features that I was looking for. I can load 5 cds and start them playing. They will play progressively on their own for a long time while I work. I also have a large collection of cassettes from the 80s. It can play them too. The fm works ok. I will add a tv antenna and cable, which will plug into the back. There is one thing that I really do not like about it. You have to use the remote to 'boot' it up. Tell me what if the batteries corrode in the remote.

    Performance Excellent for Mini Stereo

This Sharp mini stereo is just what I wanted. Compact but performs like a larger system. I have tested all components and have been satisfied with it.

I suggest that before you operate this mini stereo that you read the instructions and the online Q&As. This definitely helped me to avoid issues since I was aware of setup and became familiar with the main unit and remote prior to using it. A lot of buttons to push but taking the time to learn the mini stereo system was beneficial.

    All Aroud Good Choice

Small box but big sound. Good reach for local FM radio stations. We found it good for listening during power outages since it runs on batteries also. Since it has an 'aux in' jack we can use it to hear our LP record player which has no speakers. We still have a big box of CDs which we love to listen to with battery power on picnics. All around good choice. The display is big enough and it is clear to read in any light.

    Insignia boombox a booming success!

Bought Insignia Boombox for playing CDs at trade show in the outback of New Hampshire. We weren't disappointed. Clear and crisp sound of the CD player in the field. Clear as a bell FM radio station pickup back at our accommodation next to a lake. Only problem was the two-prong connection for AC electric to play the radio provided difficulty by unexpectedly coming loose and disconnecting. This was corrected by using some tape to hold the cord connector onto the back of the radio. Had to do a little figuring on using for CDs. Played for hours at show and accommodation. All in all, a good value for the $ and type of use. Used it June 19 through 27.

New Boom Box for a Friend

This boom box was actually for my elderly friend. Overall she like the small size as it was easy to carry from one room to another. The ability to place batteries was a plus which she didn't have to carry the cord around the house. The sound was great for her as she stays in a one bed room. She enjoy the display as it was bright and the print on the display was easy for her to read. The only thing that she said could have been better were the buttons they were a bit small and prove to be a slight challenge to use when changing the station or changing a song from her CD.

    Good kid-room CD player

We got this to replace a dying unit for the kids’ room. They love to play CD-based audio books and songs at bedtime. First one wouldn’t power on and needed to be exchanged, but second one works great. Only negative is that it shuts power down a few minutes after being paused so the kids can’t keep their spot with the audio books.

    Good Throwback

A blast from the past! I haven’t used a portable disc player since junior high (early 00’s), so its been awhile. I am fortunate to have a large collection of music on CD’s – thanks Dad, so I figured I’d give this player a spin. The setup comes with the disc player, earbuds with support fins, batteries, and the manual.

I’ll be honest, the player itself is not asthetically pleasing. It looks and feels on the cheap side, which it is. Not really a knock against it, but don’t expect a svelte looking/feeling piece of equipment. This is priced on the budget side, and the looks are in line with that. The budget build affects the buttons on the device – they are not soft/easy actuating buttons. It takes a concerted effort to push them, and they make a loud click upon actuation. There are pros/cons to this. The pros are you know the button has been pushed, and you won’t accidentally click buttons when you don’t mean to. The downside is single hand operation is tough with rigid buttons – you can do it, but its just a bit harder than it needs to be. All the buttons are on top, so you don't have to go searching for anything. The headphone/outlet jack are located along the side (AC outlet pack not included). I think it just uses a stand 5V AC wall wart, but I’m fine with just batteries anyways.

As far as features goes, it has just about everything you would expect. It has no issues playing burned discs. I didn’t have any .mp3 discs to try out , so I can’t comment on that. It has the anti-skip button – a needed feature for anyone reliving the old portable CD player days. I was able to hold the player upside-down and/or sideways without it skipping. I tossed it onto the couch and dropped it on the floor from a foot or so up while listening and it didn't skip. So that works well. The player has all the normal options of repeat song, repeat all, shuffle. It all has a song preview mode where you get the first 10 seconds of the song before jumping to the next. Then there’s the program feature that lets you select which songs to skip on the disc – kind of nice if there’s that one song you absolutely hate on the disc. The selection isn’t saved after a power cycle, so you have to reset it each time you turn the player on.

The sound is nothing special. A lot of it comes down to the quality of the earbuds/headphones you use. It sounded really good with my more expensive headphones, and pretty flat with cheapo earbuds. It has 3 equalizer options (rock, pop, surround). Rock makes the bass prominent, pop makes the vocals prominent, surround didn’t seem to do much until I used my larger over-ear headphones. It simulates a broader soundstage. For me the either the Rock or Pop setting were used depending on the genre I was playing.

The player comes with packaged earbuds. I was excited to try them out because I prefer earbuds that either have the support fins (like these) or ear hooks. Compared to some $2 cheapo earbuds I had, these sounded quite a bit better. You could discern the difference in sound in the Surround ESP with these buds, whereas the other buds didn’t bring that out. Unfortunately the earbuds fell apart after the 3rd use. Pretty disappointed there since I thought they were comfortable and didn’t sound too bad. So my advice, don’t rely on these earbuds because they seem to be prone to failure (actually my second pair in this case to fail).

Overall, this is a good player that brings back some memories. My SO and her kids are in love with this player, so its kind of cool to see the next generation enjoying something that was revolutionary in my childhood. Be prepared to swap out for different earbuds – I had several pairs laying around so this wasn’t an issue for me.

Inexpensive Retro FUN – Portable & EZ To Use

Throwback? Maybe NOT! This portable CD player provides a versatile way to listen to some of your most favorite CDs. It comes with a super-basic set of ear plugs. But, it is NOT limited when it comes to more enhanced listening pleasure. I have used a more expensive set of over-the-ear, noise-canceling headphones and am overjoyed at the reproduced quality of music by this player.

My newer vehicle does NOT have a CD player. My guess is that the Techie-Gurus have determined CDs are NO longer a viable, mainstream participant in this Digital, Streaming World of Music. Things change. Or, do they just evolve into more popular venues? I am a Vinyl-Fan and have an extensive collection of over 800 records. My wife has an accumulation of over 500 CDs and she loves listening to them daily on our high-end amp-receiver. But now, this Memorex Portable CD Player allows her to enjoy her CDs anywhere she ventures around our home. WooHoo!

The updated LCD screen allows her to maneuver the various options featured by this Memorex CD Player. An intuitive and simple display shows all the various options provided. Even without the high resolution codecs this CD player does a terrific job when paired with a high-end-over-the-ear headphone. I am impressed by the quality of sound reproduction. I highly recommend the use of more quality listening ear headphones.

We have used this Memorex Portable CD Player in various positions. In my pocket in the upright position and at various levels of horizontal. It is sensitive to bumps and jogs, so we use it in the most passive positions possible. The sixty second anti-skip protection ensures interruption-free audio. For its Price-Point, this is a terrific bargain.

I highly recommend the purchase of this Memorex Portable CD Player. It does an outstanding job of delivering crisp CD quality music. . . .

    Oh nostalgia Epic buy

Not the most ergonomic CD player but I enjoy the anti-skip because I do remember walking funny from class to class with a CD player in my pocket (huge) just so it wont skip my favorite parts. You've got to really appreciate the small things. Also, there's something about the sound a CD has that's different than a digital file. All in all I would recommend simply because it was built right. I like that it has the ability to play MP3's as well. It's a very simple piece of tech and it has very basic functions. This is the perfect vehicle for a trip down memory lane.

A cheap flimsy way to get nostalgic and portable..

The Memorex products aren't exactly known for being examples of cutting edge product design, and I'm not even 100% sure that the Memorex company is producing these products, or if its just a licensee of the brand creating cheap electronics, but that being said, if you're still looking for a way to take your favorite newfangled "Compact Discs" on the road with you.

The playback capabilities were solid, and the audio jack was fine when used with higher-end headphones, like my Beats Studio 2's and their AUX cable...

There's a very specific reason I mention that -The included headphones are awful and even crackle when plugged into the port - To the point that I thought the audio port itself was defective upon use. Turns out the included headphones just aren't worth it. Rubbish!

The unit functions well enough - The anti-skip works well as long as you don't knock the device around too much, and the controls are a bit mushy but this isn't a high-priced product. This isn't a Sony Discman competitor, but Sony stopped making those a few decades ago.

If you have a need for a new portable CD player in 2020, this is your only option, so I'd recommend. With your own headphones its a passable and functional replacement for the players of yore.

    Bluetooth doesn't connect.

I bought this to have as a backup CD player for my car. CD player, radio, cassette all works fine, but the bluetooth has yet to connect. I've had it now for several months, so I've given it ample time to connect to several devices. I didn't return it, because it works for what I need, but test the bluetooth on these and keep your receipt.

Not much of a 'Boom' box!

Just when I thought I found a suitable replacement for my Sony CDF-S36 CD Radio Cassette-Corder, was I woefully disappointed.

First of all, I was taken aback by the quality of the ‘push’ buttons on the control panel. Some buttons were uneven and others, cock-eyed. Nevertheless, they still seemed to work when I pressed them to startup the ‘Boom’ box. Then I observed an excessive rectangular cut-out for the optical reader, a less than optimal design solution which will probably shorten the life of the CD player as dust and other airborne particles begin to easily accumulate inside the unit. But the most glaring concern, hands down, is the quality of sound or lack thereof!

When I turned on the unit for the first time, it seemed as though it was still packed inside the box. The ‘muffled’ resonance is awful. It’s neither crisp nor clear and it also fails to produce the nominal highs and lows that are essential for any music appreciation. My previous boom box had cost $70.00 (in 2001) and had a ‘mega’ bass and ‘mega’ expand sound setting but who would have thought there would have been much of a difference for a unit that is now $10.00 less after 20 years of improved technology?

As a discerning audiophile, had I taken the time to listen to the ‘Boom’ box in the store instead of buying it online, it might have stayed there. But if you're still skeptical and find this review overly critical, then, by all means, buy it. However, do yourself a favor. Find a pair of decent computer speakers and plug them into the rear jack for the earphones. Fortunately, I had a pair of older Creative I-Trigue 2300, 18-watt 2.0 computer speakers (which cost me $40.00 in 2007) that I hooked up to the unit and now it sounds almost as good as my old Sony!

So, for now, I’ll keep the ‘Boom’ box but if it craps out at any time during my Best Buy two-year protection plan, I’ll gladly return it for an upgrade . . .

The radio works excellent and its worth every penny. You won't be disappointed at all with purchasing this item. The price is unbeatable and it's very well made and sturdy. Great loud boombox with great features

Very nice product with many features. Cassette deck and bluetooth/aux in are all as loud as radio when playing. Radio antenna picks up stations well. Sound is clear at higher (not highest) volume number. Good enough to carry over a hot tub blower running. 2 drawbacks...everything is push button for every function. I see future issues with that. Also the back hole where the AC cord plugs into is frail. It broke off back into the boombox and is quite a pain to use now. It has 6 months left on warranty

Quality unit with a few significant flaws

    Pros:

    -Great sound quality.

    -Mostly very sturdy construction.

    Cons:

-The front buttons (the main ones you'll be pressing when you're not listening to a cassette) are very small and thus hard to read if your eyes aren't good, and they take more effort to press than you'd expect.

-Bluetooth stopped wanting to connect to my phone after a few months.

-CD player lid feels relatively delicate and will open with just the slightest accidental press.

I had a radio/cassette player for many years. The cassette player stopped working. I went on line to Best Bey to see what I could find. I was shocked to find one so similar to what had. I very quickly ordered it. When I received it I was very shocked to find it also has a USB port. I love, love this. I get a radio, cassette, and a USB port.

This looked like a great product. It arrived quickly. I tried the radio and it worked great. Then I tried to play a cassette. This did not go well. The cassette started to play and then made a funny noise. When I checked it turned out that the spool to the left that should be taking up the tape was doing nothing and it was eating up my cassette. Not a bad boombox but with unexceptional sound.

The Studebaker boombox has decent sound but nothing out of the ordinary. It is not particularly well designed which results in it being awkward to insert a cd. This is because one has to insert the cd vertically while trying to make sure one does not get fingerprints on the cd or scratch the cd. It would be better if the boombox had a tray that flipped out into a horizontal position so it would be much easier to load a cd. In addition, the radio did not work on my new Studebaker boombox. I returned it to Best Buy and received a credit on my debit card.

I'm back home in the 90s!

So when I got this product, I thought it was going to be a relive of my 90s days --- well it was more of a 90s reboot! Firstly, the anti-skip protection is way better than the old days. I don't think perfect skip protection can exist with actual CDs, but I do feel this is as good as it's gonna get. You also get the CD experience completely wireless this time around if you so choose.

Yes, this one is BLUETOOTH so I can play my old CDs on my bluetooth speakers, headphones, even in my car. Had some re-pairing issues, but I even have that problem with recent standard products too, like some other earbuds I have.

It also has the Bass Boost feature from before and this was a REALLY welcome throwback!

The cons? Just one for me --- just like the old days, it is battery powered (double As) and does not come with an AC adapter --- I would have to buy that separately. Nonetheless, the memories and the upgrade to the old style are worth the price for this fun throwback.

    Let's Party Like It's 1990

Gas prices are under $2.00 and I'm reviewing a CD player. What year is it!?!? But, to be fair, this isn't quite like the CD players of the 90's. This CD Player has Bluetooth and far better electronic skip protection than my old CD players did back in the day. It isn't a flawless experience, but if you're looking to add a CD player to your car or want to connect without wires to your Bluetooth speakers and headphones, then dust off your CD wallet and prepare for a blast from the past.

Bluetooth: So, the big selling feature of this CD player is the included Bluetooth connectivity. With Bluetooth, you can connect this player to your portable speakers and wireless headphones. Connection isn't without problems, though. To get Bluetooth to work, you have to turn on the feature each time you start the CD player. It isn't enabled by default. Second quirk is I found myself constantly having to re-pair devices after I had either shut down the CD player or the Bluetooth device. It wasn't a consistent problem; some headphones stayed connected while some speakers did not. But it was a bit more difficult than turning on the devices and having a solid connection each time.

Features: Everything works well. Volume control is digital. The electronic skip protection worked well for my walks and car rides. The buttons on the top of the player are easy enough to use.

The player comes with 2 AA batteries, but no power cable. You can hook up a 4.5v AC adapter, but you will need to buy that separately. With the added feature of Bluetooth connectivity, it would have also been nice to have had a micro or mini USB power port, too. But, I guess that would have been asking too much.

As I said above, anti-skip works well. If you want, you could easily hook this player up to a car's auxiliary audio port. Many vehicles today are foregoing CD players in lieu of huge tablet like displays. If you are looking for an automotive solution, this worked well for me. I didn't experience skips, and the controls on the top of the drive were easy enough to access without taking my eyes off the road.

So, in conclusion, while Bluetooth works, it is a bit more quirky than I would like. As a portable CD player, the drive works well and Bluetooth does work if you are okay with constantly re-enabling and syncing devices.

I’m what you’d call an “Elder Millenial” just old enough to have a vast CD collection that I started buying when I got my first job in High School. I hadn’t used them in a while, but it still is satisfying to grab a disc, load it into the CD player and press play. This Memorex CD player feels kinda like the ones I used to own and use in high school and in my

Early 20s. It feels sturdy yet flimsy. I don’t think it would survive a fall from waist height. So I don’t plan on jogging with this anywhere. I strictly use it while sitting at home playing video games or doing work on my laptop. It’s a great way to listen to an album distraction free. No notifications or phone calls and texts from my phone to interrupt my music. This is honestly the best part about having a dedicated music / cd player. The uninterrupted music experience alone is worth the purchase. I wanted to give it a 4 star rating because even though it has blue tooth, I could not get any of my Bluetooth headphones to pair with it. My headphones aren’t smart enough on their own to just connect to the CD player. However, I believe this would be great for someone who owns a car that has Bluetooth capability but no CD player. The CD player pairs easily with a cars Bluetooth system. This is a great and affordable way to have a CD player in your car. The CD player comes with a pair of headphones, they’re fine, and they work, but I always recommend using a pair of over the ear headphones for an immersive music listening experience. Battery life is fantastic. I’m going on about 5 hours of music listening with the same two AA batteries installed. There’s no mention of battery life. But this certainly runs longer than the CD players I owned back in high school. Build quality is as expected. Not the most heavy duty but not too cheap either. Don’t drop it though. The electronic skip protection works good enough to walk around with it in hand and I’m sure it’ll work great in the car too. I’m happy with it, I think you will be also.

    Love it! Nice throwback product!

It was a pleasure to have time to listen to my CD collection on this very cool throwback CD player.

Call me old fashioned but I like to have devices that do what they were designed to do. A CD player or radio for music, a GPS for directions, etc. With streaming if I walk away, it stops playing music. But with this, the music continues to play. I really like that. And it plays mP3 files too, so that can give you much longer playtime than a regular CD.

Comes with nice earbuds that stay in!

    Simple to use and Bluetooth!

Great CD player, I know, in this day and age, CD's may not be what they were before, however some, like me still have a collection of CD's that you may still want to listen to. This portable player is very lightweight (I like the color too) and it has Bluetooth, a feature for these modern days! They include a nice pair of wired earbuds, but with Bluetooth, you can pair your favorite ones (or you can pair it to a set of speakers/home theater, if it has Btooth). I like the press on buttons on top for volume (no more spinning wheel on the side). They also include a pair of batteries. Keep some handy, because although it has port for a DC/car adapter, its not included (but you can buy it separately). Sound quality is great, and it has a boombost feature, but my guess is battery life would be less if you use it.

I highly recommend it for anyone that still wants to listen to their CD collection, albeit with a nice pair of bluetooth modern earbuds/speakers!

Nostalgia is strong with this one

It has been a while since I have not listened to my music CD collection -especially since I put them away in CD bookcases. So, looking at this Memorex Bluetooth CD Player was a very welcome experience.

The CD player is exactly what you would expect or remember. It has the stereotypical clamshell design and it is made of plastic. It seems decently well built. It is light and can be handled easily in one hand. I will say that, as it has always been the case, it would not be a good idea to drop it. It has a pleasant retro aesthetic with black and neon green trim. As far as portability, I would not say this is exactly the case, as it does not feature any belt clips or carrying case. It does include a 100-second anti-skip feature though, which is effective while moving it around. The player has a monochrome digital display that shows the usual information such as track, time, mode, etc. It has the usual tactile buttons such as play, pause, forward, back, stop, Bluetooth/mode, program, ESP (anti-skip) and +/- volume. They are responsive and feel very clicky. On the side of the player, there is the open slider, headphone jack, DBBS (bass boost), and a DC power input. I thought it was rather strange to have this DC input as the power pack was not included, and it may be a bit of a hassle to find one that fits. I think this should have been a micro USB input or something more modern as those can be found everywhere. It comes with two AA batteries.

Memorex included a pair of black headphone buds. While this is nice, in my opinion, they are terrible, and sort of detract the whole deal. They have ear fins and they fit fine. However, the sound was incredibly tinny and there is absolutely no bass. I thought that might improve with a different tip size. To my amazement, the whole head came apart simply by attempting to pull the tip off. This would have been infuriating, had I not reminded myself about the retail price of the unit (not an excuse).

So, the player works as expected. The lid opens easily by using the slider and stays open. It makes a nice click when closing it and feels secure. Discs fit well and do not wobble. I used high-grade headphones to test the sound and listened to different music genres. Being that these are actual CD’s, the sound reproduction should be of decent quality. The truth is that is was OK -at least to my ears. Personally, I would have liked more clarity, but it is what it is. Activating the DBBS extra bass boost adds much-needed excitement but also distortion at higher volumes. I found that playing music at about 15% or less was more than enough as these pump out very loud sound.

The player also features Bluetooth 5.0. Pairing is simple, although one must ensure to activate the pairing is being done at the same time on both devices. The sound quality is also alright. Unfortunately, the bass boost does not work in wireless mode, and so the sound depends on the headphones being used. The connection is decent since it did not drop or stutter at long distances -even thorough a wall and a couple of corners. I also tried it with my Bluetooth speaker and again, the experience was just alright.

Now, will admit that I have been spoiled by digital media, especially now that high-quality transmission is a thing, and the wireless experience is here to stay. However, the nostalgia was strong with this one; the same as when one is holding a book or magazine. The tactile feedback, handling (or dusting off) CD’s, and actually operating a machine, bring memories that many would think is certainly worth the asking price.

Really Nice Low Profile Bluetooth CD Player

Really Nice Low Profile Bluetooth CD Player.

It was really easy to pair with several audio systems, speakers and even a 2020 Toyota Camry which lacks a CD player as many new cars do.

In my test in the car the CD player provided a crisp clean sound through the speakers in the car that sounded perfect and the player played in any position and didn't jump, skip or flutter with a few vertical and horizontal shakes I did to simulate hitting a bump in the road. It is a little easier than putting the CD's on a flash drive and gives you the ability to grab other CD's at the last minute for a trip without putting them on your phone or a flash drive.

When my Dad rides with me, he likes to bring his own CD's to listen to and I really dont have any of that music (or want it LOL)

The headphones included are really mediocre in sound quality but probably par for the course in inexpensive earbuds.

My one wish for something it does not have would be the optional ability to use it powered from a power supply and not two AA batteries all the time

    For nostalgic lovers

I consider myself one of the first to always use and buy technology firsthand, but at the same time, I love, cherish, and miss to use old tech such as Sony Walkman, iPod Classic, etc. This Memorex Portable CD Player is literally made me happy, for the first impression when unboxed it, I felt so happy to use and listen to CDs tracks. I have many CDs and I still use them these days but on the shelf and power audio system. This CD player took me back to the '80s and '90s which is my favorites years. Build quality is acceptable, not high finish, 2 AA batteries-powered, 40 seconds anti-skip protection "ESP", the sound is good but not the best, quiet when the music being played, earbuds are useless and not comfortable but alternatively, I got the BT function to pair up my own Bluetooth-enabled headphones and boom! The music seemed amazing! compact and quiet with BT is all what I need. I loved it!!!

    defective product!

This ate my tapes up. Very dissatisfied with this. I was really looking forward to listening to my cassettes. Would really like to return it as I hope it’s just a one off problem but I’m past the 15 days by less than a week.

Great option for vehicles without a CD Player

It works perfectly with my radio in my motorhome on an E450 Chassis. The motorhome didn't come with a cd player and since the radio system incorporates the factory installed rear monitoring system, I didn't want to replace it. This portable CD Player broadcasts over the airways on an FM Channel and my RV Radio picks it up. Makes travelling long distances much more enjoyable. It was easy to set up and because it can broadcast on multiple channels, it is easy to avoid a conflict with a strong local channel.

    Terrific Player

I tried the Memorex version CD Player and just wasn't happy with the sound quality. Tinny and not enough oomph. Then I found this beauty and saw what I was missing. More features, much better sound quality and snazzier looks. Sure it may be three times the price of the Memorex, but it's three times the quality. Very happy with this choice!
