    Changed our internet life!

Before this modem we had given up hope on our internet. Our ping was none existent (usually 20 or less) and our download speed never went higher than 8 although we pay over $100 for 50 mbps download. So after a year of fighting with Shentel we decided to bite the bullet and purchase our own. Best decision ever. I have attached a pic of our current speeds and that is with 2 kids gaming on Fortnite plus our living room tv streaming. We don’t have cable so we do everything online and this modem has made that online experience Seamless! I absolutely recommend this modem to others. If your having connectivity issues it’s likely your modem and not your provider! Give it a try you won’t regret it!

    Best purchase made!!

The only high-speed internet provider I can use is Comcast xFinity and their SB3 & newest SB4 would not allow for a steady connection and would be offline more than online. Read the end to note if you have xFinity Home, which is Comcast’s security system. After 11 tech visits and 3 supervisors came by, countless call ins, I decided to purchase my own modem/router combo to see if I could resolve the inconsistency & it was resolved.

The associate at the local Best Buy suggested this one since I have so much connected with my home being smart and have several Nest Cameras streaming 24/7. Right when I changed out the modem settings with tech support via FB Messanger (as tech support closed at 8pm), my life changed. I now have constant high speed internet connection and it has not once went down in the couple weeks I have owned this brand and model. If I knew it would have resolved my issues since Jan 2019 and it’s June 2019 now, I would have made this purchase much sooner. Comcast employees can’t explain why “using my own modem and router is working but their devices wouldn’t. Not even the newest model on the market, the SB6).

I have Google Home Hub, Brother laser printer, 2 iPhone Max Xs phones, HD xFinity cable box, Samsung TV, 4 Nest Outdoor Cameras, smart defuser, smart doorbell camera, my xFinity Home alarm system, and much more connected at all times and nothing once since changing to this modem/router have had any issues. When I tell Google Hub to stream one of my cameras, it doesn’t have one delay and I can also have it streaming on my phone app and MacBook Pro all at the same time without gang flaws. With the rented devices, it would lag and have the time not work.

It’s literally night and day difference and I recommend this one to everyone. It has a high range which covers far corners of the home I live in which is 3200 total sq feet. Have great signal while outside and on patio far from where it is plugged in, it’s excellent.

Well worth the money spent to have decent internet access and Comcast xFinity has no reason on why, as I stated above, my personally owned modem will work while the two they offer did not, it is pitiful.

Also, saving the extra $15 per month will add up and eventually over time save me monthly rental fees. My neighbor which runs off the same cable line as the house was built in the 1890s and made into two units have their services and while mine was down, theirs remained up and online. They own their own modem and router which worked when mine wouldn’t. Same connection, different results. All cable lines were replaced, the converters changed out to new ones, the pole had MOCHA filters all changed out, they couldn’t resolve the issue whatsoever.

Note: the touchpad for xFinity Home (alarm system) doesn’t recognize this modem as a modem nor router). Home technicians had to come and place a “side car” gateway, which is plugged into the Ethernet port on back of this device to allow touchpad to utilize WiFi for smart functions and notifications while backup 3g still worked but had delays, the WiFi option didn’t recognize it. I even had a tech from India call center try to make the SB6 modem from xFinity act as a gateway and it would not work (I was given tech a temporary access codes to go into tech settings). It was free of charge for technician to place the “side car” which is basically a wireless router with hidden SSDI and password, all secure and unable to access in general for the touchpad to sync properly to WiFi settings. It’s some security protocol which I tried googling yet not able to resolve on my part.

**photo attached shows the “side car” needed and installed.**

Get rid of your cable equipment!

I recently moved from so cal to nor cal b/c of my career. I had to get a new service provider (at&t) which was hands down the WORST service/customer service I have ever experienced. I made the decision ro switch to X-finity, but i opted to use my own equipment. I read great things about netgear and decided to give them a chance. Not only do I have lightning internet, but I also don't pay the extra $18 equipment rental fee. I highly recommend any netgear products. (My condo is 988 sq ft so i went with the 700 model).

    Great cable modem.

Excellent modem. Seems to work great with my NetGear Orbi mesh wifi system. Provides a strong signal throughout the whole house. I get a consistent signal as my internet provider claims (400 Mbps). I'm very happy with both NetGear products.

Note: this modem is for use with a cable provider like Spectrum in my case. This will not work for fiber or dsl system providers).

    A must Have

I upgraded my Motorola SB-6141 because speeds drop frequently. I was researching for other brands since I only Used Motorola brand modems. I decided to try the Netgear CM-700 because of its price,Downstream and upload channels. Ever since the install, speeds been very good no drops at all.lights on modem are green and doesn’t illuminate the whole room like the Motorola modem. I do recommend this router if you want great speeds for streaming, gaming, and connect multiple devices at once.

    So easy to install!!

I expected 2 things: 1) A nighare trying to get it provisioned on my ISP network. 2) I was going to lose speed because it wasn't their product.

Wrong on both counts. Setup was very easy, no issues with cable company, and after checking the bandwith, it was the same as I had prior.

With my Arris Surfboard and Google Nest pairing, I have had as much as 12 devices comnected at the same time and no lagging. I am so happy I no longer have to constantly get stressed about my wifi signal like before ^_^

    Really bad modem

Please research this modem the SB6190 on the web before you buy. This modem is based off the Intel Puma 6 chipset which suffers tremendously from latency. The latency caused my pages to load slower and video streaming to buffer and at times the modem to disconnect. Comcast had pushed the latest firmware to my modem on 2/24/2016 and disconnects were less frequent but the latency problems was there. I've include the some pictures testing the latency of the SB6190(The one with yellow, red. and mustard green blocks) and the latency of a Broadcom based modem that I purchased from Best Buy (almost all green block chart). STAY AWAY from anything based on the Intel Puma 6. GET any modem based on the Broadcom chipset, and save yourself some time and headache. While your at it pickup a replacement plan. I bought this modem a few months ago hoping to save on my internet bill but ended buying another modem because of how bad this one is.

Buy this if you can utilize the 3.1 DOCSIS speed

Bought this for Comcast and it was very easy to setup. Just plug it in and follow the directions to activate it through Comcast's portal. Didn't have to talk to anyone from Comcast. I'm currently paying $70/month and I didn't want to pay the extra $10 rental fee. I sold my soul and locked in that price for 3 years. This modem and a good ac1900 router will pay for themselves after 1.8 years for me. The throughput on the modem is great, I'm getting the most out of my internet speed. I posted screen shots of a few speed tests.

Since this is the only DOCSIS 3.1 modem on the market, at the time of writing this review, it is quite expensive. Luckily there was a promotion with VISA checkout and I had some rewards to use, this came down to a decent price. Because of the price, I wouldn't recommend this modem if you're internet speed isn't over 200-300mbs down. You may get incremental increases, but it wouldn't justify paying so much more for this modem compared to a good 3.0 DOCSIS modem.

    Netgear Nighthawk Modem Model CM1000-100NAS

This was a replacement modem for the same one that went out all flashing lights orange/amber this was exactly one year to the date of purchase. Cox Cable had a outage in my area that day and my modem went out so on I go to Best Buy to buy a new one before they closed. New Modem Setup was easy since I was replacing the same model , but had to Chat with Cox Cable no more talking with a live person on the phone took 1/2 hour to have them setup on there end. Next day no internet connection had to reboot modem. Since then modem has been running fine for 4 weeks no issues so far will see in 11 months when warranty expires.

    Perfect Gigabit Modem

I recently upgraded my internet to gigabit through xfinity and I needed a gigabit modem, I have purchased the Arris SB8200 because they are a known good brand and it was the brand I have been using, once I made the purchase, I tested my speed and it is getting no where half the gigabit when I am wired to my router. The netgear one had better review all over but I though arris was find so I sticked to the brand, boy I was wrong. I should have gone with netgear from the start since I have a x10 nighthawk router and probably should pair with the netgear brand. Once I returned the arris modem and picked up this netgear modem, I tested the speed and I am not getting 940mbps wired and around 600mbps, this is the modem to get if you have gigabit internet.

After 4 years of working bo stop looks like it need to be replace, at least tha is what the cable tech support said on the phone. We will order another one and see if thiswas the problem. Beside this all works good

    Future Proof Upgrade

The Motorola Surfboard SB6183 cable modem, while being a tad higher than I wanted to pay, still pays for itself in the end. It not only will save you those pesky modem lease fees the cable companies charge, but this purchase will also future proof your broadband connectivity in that one shouldn't need to upgrade their cable modem for a year or two. You will definitely notice a speed difference increase with this modem, especially if you're currently using an older modem that has 4 or 8 bonded download channels. The SB6183 has 16 bonded downloaded channels at its disposal. This means if you're subscribing to the say the Time Warner 300/20 service and you're seeing speeds at half that with the older modems, purchasing this modem will correct that and get you in the fast lane. This product is definitely recommended, even if you're not subscribing to top tier broadband because eventually the cable companies will force you into a newer model of cable modem, so why not take advantage of the future today and purchase the SB6183? You'll be glad you did.

    Great Cable Modem

I am a senior citizen, so in the last 30 Years I have bought many different brands of modems. By far this model has been great. I have never had to unplug this model to reboot. My last modem had to be rebooted at least 3 times a month. I give this ARRIS model 5 stars!

    Setting it up was easy

Setting it up was easy. Just a call to Comcast and voila. Its performance is very good. It does not heat up. I think it was a good decision. The only con was the delay in arriving... it took near a long week; even existing in nearby stores.

    Excellent product, but...

The modem/router is excellent quality, well built, pleasing presentation, simple to operate. However, be aware that most cable operators will not allow a personal router to hook up to their signal - their business is charging for every access point in a house, and for that a modem such as this is required. Therefore, the cable operator denies typically denies access for configuring the router, as it takes away from their opportunity to charge you a second access point. Before purchasing make sure that you get written confirmation from your cable operator that they will allow configuration of modem on their signal!!

This modem is doing exactly what I needed. Everything has been running smoothly. I have been on a lot of video calls, and I’ve never had any connection issues. The modem maybe feels/looks a little cheap, but it operates well, which is all that matters. It’s nice and compact too. I recommend this modem to anyone looking for something simple and effective.

    Great for Multi-Wireless Device Households

So, you're looking for a new modem. Your old one stopped working--started dropping connection randomly--and you just want to buy something that works without spending too much money. I get it. I really do. But, there's a marginal chance you have very little knowledge about networking. Fair. Who has time to learn all that? Here's the bottom line: The Motorola MB7420 is made by a trusted company (you've at least heard of them). But why buy this model and not the slightly cheaper MB7220 you saw on that other website or in your local catch-all retail store? Channels and speed, to put it simply. If you're paying for a mid-level internet plan (because you like streaming videos/playing video games/looking at fourteen separate Firefox tabs of cat photos) and you're not the only person in your house doing this, you need the capabilities provided by this model. See that "16x4" on the box? Equate those numbers to (number of people)x(balls being thrown around)--bear with me here. You're probably thinking, "Four balls isn't that many. Surely eight people could toss and catch balls just as easily as sixteen." Think again. Imagine that each of these people is throwing these balls at near light-speed(they're really good at catching and throwing). Now imagine that sometimes multiple balls are directed at one person. See where I'm going with this? If not, use your rudimentary math skills: sixteen is twice as much as eight. This means a drastically reduced chance of multiple connections causing a drop in speed on your devices. Do you like buffering? Maybe you do. Maybe that spinning circle puts you in a zen state of mind. If not, stop being cheap and buy a decent modem.

I've had excellent luck with the quality and dependability of Motorola cable modems and highly recommend them. This modem is fast, dependable, and I appreciate the on/off button so that the modem is not on 24/7.

    Buy dont rent your modem

I refuse to pay a leasing fee for a modem when you can buy one of choice and higher quality. I prefer a standalone modem to an all in one modem. Buy your modem then choose your wifi router. That way you can specify if you need a beam forming, multiple mimo or meshing/repeater type router. Dont limit yourself to the cheapest thing the cable companies can find.

    Netgear does it again!

I have been a proud owner of the original Orbi (RBK50) since day one when it was first released a few years ago. It has served me very well during these years, and I was really weary of upgrading or changing to any other device.

However, with WiFi6 already here, I finally bit the bullet and decided to upgrade to this Router/Modem/Satellite Orbi combo. Because my original experience with the RBK50 was a little rough (It was early in development, and it was a whole new technology) I was a little afraid that I was gonna have the same poor experience initially, but boy was I wrong.

This Orbi system has been rock solid since day one, I have over 30 devices connected on my network at all times. TVs, Eufy Security Cameras, Android Tablets, iPads, Ooma VOIP system, Soundbars that connect to Wi-Fi, Smart lights, Smart Thermostats, Phones, and more. Everything has had a rock solid and stable connection 24/7.

I can't be happier with the system so far. Of course not all is great. I had a really rough experience setting up the Orbi, The App would fail to connect to them. I had to do it on the computer, and then even in the computer I had trouble setting it up too.

The Orbi web interface would not recognize my input, took me many tries till it finally went through. It turns out it doesn't like it if you just leave the options as they are during the first security questions in setup. You must pick and select several times and then type, leave spaces and delete and type again. I tried with Chrome, Edge and Firefox, all with the same issue.

Another thing, don't do what I did, I called Comcast and activated the modem first, then went into the app and tried to configure. The app expect you to follow the wizard and activate the modem online (not calling Comcast) I think that's why the app had issues finishing the setup for me.

Another thing, this Orbi system seems smaller in pictures than it is in real life. The main unit (Modem/Router) is actually like 2 inches bigger than the RBK50, and the satellite is actually the same height as my original Orbi. So keep that in mind too.

Anyways, aside from that bad setup experience, the rest has been nothing but perfect with this Orbi System. I absolutely love it so far as much as I liked my original RBK50.

Get it, you won't regret it!

    Expensive, but worth it

Just moved, and after having Spectrum for one month, the modem stopped working and was replaced by a technician who told me those modems aren’t the best. After that, I started researching to buy my own modem. Found out some modems use this Intel Puma chip which are causing issues, so make sure your modem doesn’t have that chip.

After looking into a new modem and mesh set up, I found this all in one system from Netgear Orbi. This set up allows you to have a modem/router combo (or gateway as some call it) with one of the devices while the other is the satellite (think WiFi range extender but better). It made sense to buy this versus buying a modem and Orbi’s separate. Speed tests have run great and no more complaints from my kids about lagging and teleporting in their games. It was very easy to set it up through the Orbi app and a few minutes on the phone with Spectrum. The instructions and information like the MAC ID, serial, etc, are all easily found, they’ve made this dummy proof.

This set up is future proof. Most people, like 99% of us, cannot take full advantage of the speed capabilities with this set up, so there’s no need to worry about having to upgrade this set up for a while. If you’re wondering the difference between the AX4200 and more expensive AX6000 model, the AX6000 does not have a modem/router combo version like this, so you’d need to buy a different modem. Also, the AX6000 simply allows for faster speeds that no one even has. There’s no justification to buy the AX6000 model and you can see YouTube videos comparing the two which will explain this.

Yes, it’s expensive. But this is a clear case of you get what you pay for. The Orbi app is awesome too. You can tell what devices are connected to the main router or satellite, you can cut internet access off to any device, there’s a lot of info and features in the app. Stop fussing with that modem and router from your cable provider or that old set up from a few years ago and upgrade today!

    Excellent!

I upgraded my out of date cable and separate router for my home office to the Netgear Orbi and am very pleased. The upgrade was excellent and very easy, the app makes the install process quick and I did have to call my ISP to register the new cable modem router combo but after that I was right back online. I give this 5 stars because the internet and wifi connection are great with very good range, no more slow internet or getting booted from websites and install was easy using the app by following the steps.

Can't be used just as a wireless router

Router is great and super fast. The setup though was rough. I had to hard reset the router like 3-4 times just to get it to work correctly. A few times it had me setup a password and security questions, but then wouldn't accept the answers. One thing to note, I thought I was going to use it for Spectrum but then it turned out I wanted to use it just as a wireless router (without the cable modem). It wouldn't let you so I ended up using this at another location.

Great replacement for Comcast rental fees

Tired of paying the monthly modem fee and saw this model at a Best Buy store. After reading reviews that night, I went back and purchased this one. After reading the instructions I hooked the modem up. Once it was online and you enter your temp password, I was connected to the Xfinity website. Entered my email and password and it accepted my new modem. I called Comcast anyway and they said it was the new modem.

Unfortunately I have Xfinity home security and it doesn’t work. Tried calling Motorola but they couldn’t help. Ended up calling Xfinity and they had to come to the house and install a router that will communicate with my security touchscreen. If you have home security from Comcast, schedule an appointment for the afternoon and hook the modem up in the morning.

Hooking the modem up and registering with Comcast takes less than 1 hour and I’m not techie

    Remarkable modem

This is actually my second Modem. Owned the first one for about a year and experienced many network issues and blamed it on my network provider. Finally dawned on me that it must be the modem. This is where it earns its five stars. I called Motorola and after a couple of troubleshooting steps, they figured out that I must have a bad box. A new one was dispatched to me the next day despite the fact I had owned the previous one for over a year. I have received it and it is works like a champ. The speed tests closely replicate the speeds advertised with my plan. Buy it if on the market for a good modem. Motorola stands by its product!

Great Modem to Replace Renting from Comcast

I purchased this modem to replace the rental fee from Comcast. You need to ensure that the modem that you select has a plug in for a phone service if Comcast or another vendor provides you phone service. It took about 1 hr to set it up and let Comcast know I was replacing it. In setting it up, I used the same 15 Character passcode from the old modem to ensure a smooth transition. Each device (wireless -laptop, printer, Ipad etc) must be linked to the Wi-fi via the modem. It goes smoothly if you take your time.

The first one I set up did not include the telephone voice option and it worked great. I decided to get the model with the voice option for my other location where a telephone and faxing was necessary. In both cases it was up and running in less than a half hour. The instructions were great and easy to follow. I use Xfinity and the program almost sets itself up. The units works great with Xfinity, I cannot comment on use for other carriers. I would check with my carrier, if planning to use this system on other than Xfinity.

    Great product

We have been running this for over a month now and it works flawlessly. Prior to purchasing this we were using the modem supplied from Xfinity and a separate router. This does the job of both and gives us wifi coverage throughout both levels of a 3000+ sq. ft. home. You may want to use some sort of range extender or net, depending on your needs, but works great for us without. Also, plan on spending some time on the phone with Xfinity for initial setup. Would definitely recommend this product.

    Excellent higher-end cable modem.

Simple to install. Works exactly as advertised. Went with this unit because it integrated well with my WIFI router from the same manufacturer, and because it has excellent performance spec's for the price. This unit replaced the "best availalble" cable company leased modem. Noticed immediate and significant performance improvement over the leased modem. Significantly faster data upload and download times. The modest purchase price of this unit will be quickly offset by the eliminated lease charges, but the real benefit for me was the performance improvement. Would definitely recommend this unit to others. And the Best Buy pricing on this unit was the absolute lowest I found anywhere, including internet-based options

    good ratings, reliable, flexible

For some reason I still like to get the modem and wifi routers separately. I guess I figure that separate units are more affordable when one of them quits. And, let's face it, they *can* clunk out on you.

Setting up my son's first apartment from three days drive away, so I needed to pick gifts - a router and a modem...and a vacuum cleaner - that were reliable, reasonably priced, and had the necessary features. I checked with his net provider and this had the Docsis 3.0 and speed ratings that they recommended. Found a few reliable tech review sites that had reviews of lower-priced products as well as the latest/greatest stuff. This one featured on several lists.

No more monthly modem rental fees

I’ve been using this cable modem for a year. I bought it to replace the one that I was paying a service fee for every month from the internet provider. It paid for itself in a short time and it’s been just as reliable with great security features.

Good modem model for some cable plans

So far, so good. I have a lower tier cable speed plan, and it performs at the level I pay for. It also has subdued lights, which I prefer to my overly-bright previous modem. A better deal than leasing modem from cable company.

    Very pleasant surprise

My internet plan with Comcast is for 200 mbps download speeds. With my old Motorola SBG6680 I was able to get 50-60 on the xfinity speed test and that was adequate for my needs, no issues, no dropouts, no buffering. But, I was paying for 200 and getting 50-60. Dropping down to a 100 plan would actually have cost a little more.

So I spoke to a helpful Best Buy associate who recommended the Motorola MG7550 and went home to do my own research. After a day of of waffling I decided that the MG7550 was actually the best choice even though it was a little more than what I needed right now.

I opened the box and the directions weren’t clear as a bell for keeping my old network name and password so I called the 800 number and Eddie walked me right through it. Called Comcast to update the new Mac ID and that went smoothly.

Now the big test. What download speed would I get? I’d have been happy to hit 100. Last evening I was consistently getting 150-170. This morning with all of the kids off to school and parents off to work I’m getting 200+. So, yeah! I’m happy with the MG7550.

    not bad really!

My old bulky arris (white) modem wasn't giving me the right speeds

with 5g was getting 252mbps with 2.4 was getting 52mbps

my Comcast is 300mbps and with this new modem my speeds went up to 5g 358mbps 2.4 107mbps

now my reason for 3 stars once in a while my speeds drop a little but then goes back to normal

and price is too much being a 2 year old modem on the market price now should be under $100 Bucs!

I still recommend it If you have an old cable modem That needs to be replace

Very fast and great for saving money from Cable Co

I bought this cable modem router when I switched to Comcast cable from AT&T DSL. It saves me from renting one from the cable company for $20/ month. It was very easy to set up and has been working flawlessly. I have 250 gb service and have reached speeds of over 280 gb wirelessly through this wifi router with 5G. I was able to save even more money by adding Roku devices to run other TVs in the house connected wirelessly to this router. All total, I am saving over $60 per month with this modem and the Roku Express+ devices with the Comcast app. I can watch all cable channels, as well as DVR'd movies and shows. I cannot record from the Rokus, but I can record on the Comcast DVR and watch on Rokus, phones and tablets.

    Very good modem/router

I had a surfboard before this one which is also made by Motorola so I was reluctant wether to get this one or change brand since I was looking for better performance. After all I’m glad I got this one because I’m finally getting the speed that I pay for 200+ mbs download on wireless devices which I never got close to that on my old modem.

The setup was super easy and timeless I think I had it all setup with a secured password in under 10 minutes.

The price is reasonable considering this is a brand name and serves as modern and router.

Overall I’m very satisfied with my purchase and I would recommend this product.

    Great for Xfinity us

We have Xfinity 250g package and we get every bit of it using this. My old one also bought from bestbuy maxed out at 300g but we only saw maybe 60 of of it. With this I really feel I am geting the most out of my internet. Set up was easy before I opened the box I called Xfinity and they programmed everything for the new one at no cost. All I had to do was plug it in once they said to do so! My playstation (when wired in) now only takes 20 mins to download a 90g game when before it would take all night with my old router plugged in.

    The Good and The Bad

Well, I was able to use this with SuddenLink, all I did was give them the MAc Address and walla I was connected. The 2nd day, I started experiencing intermittent connection, I called Motorola and even email their tech, non were able to help me. I was told it is a bad Router, and I need a replacement.

So, if you are experiencing On and Off connectivity, and PING says transmit failed. General failure, the fix is to update all your Ethernet and Wifi driver. See my Speedtest

    Good replacement for Comcast modem/router

I wanted to get rid of the monthly payment with Comcast to rent their modem. Since I was cutting the cord and going with YouTubeTV, I didn't really need to pay Comcast more money. So though I did keep their Internet, I didn't want to pay them a cent more for their modem/router. I purchased this one and have had no problems with it. Works great and the price was right.

This is a repeat sale of an Item that I bought from a box store (I think) back in November 2020. I needed a replacement for the one I purchased for our shore home in New Jersey. I took that one back to Philadelphia when I closed our summer home but now I needed a new one in New Jersey. So I just bought a newer version of the same item - works great.

Best modem if you have Comcast Gigabit Speed!

Long story short it's the only modem I had with Xfinity that delivered the 1Gig speeds that pay. I previously had the more expensive ARRIS SURFboard Docsis 3.1 and Netgear Nighthawk, both under delivered.

This Motorola Docis3.1 Modem paired with the NETGEAR RAX50S AX5400 ROUTER is the best internet combination money can buy!

Stable, some future-proofing, and runs cool ...

Replaced an old working DOCSIS 3.0 8x4 Arris Surfboard. Part of the reason was to eliminate the modem as contributing to my unstable/bad latency during peak times (hoping more channels would help here). It has helped to degree but my ISP still has load issues during peak times.

It was also nice to have a some future-proofing with a 2.5 GB port. While I do not have service or internal network capabilities for this yet, all of it should be on the horizon in the coming years.

While I have seen bigger modems, this is about twice the height of your standard Arris Surfboard modem.

Another nice plus is that it does not get as hot as previous modems I have had. That was my intention with purchasing this "bigger one" vs the current Arris modems (they like to get hot).

Works great for Spectrum Cable Los Angeles region.

Had connectivity issues w/ a more expensive Netgear CM1200 modem that has Spectrum branding on the box. After weeks of troubleshooting with Spectrum and having technicians come out to replace coaxial lines, the issue didn't resolve. Switching to this cheaper Motorola modem fixed all connectivity issues and has been stable. Now, if only we can get rid of the cable monopoly and get better fiber optic gigabit internet providers like the rest of the world... one can only dream.

Works as advertised! No complaints here.

I was having issues with my surfboard arris 3.1 modem not hitting the speeds it was guaranteed to hit so I decided to switch to this modem and now I’m consistently hitting gigabit speeds and not having to constantly reboot the modem, I’ve only had to reboot once and that was when setting it up on my Internet service. Only complaint is there’s no way to mount it in my internet rack like the arris, which honestly isn’t a issue.

Future-proof speeds; perfectly links with Comcast

Gigabit internet and WiFi 6E are not part of average US home internet setups...yet.

A 2.5gbps modem is akin to buying an advanced ticket to Mars on SpaceX. You're gonna be waiting around for a while until it's viable.

However, future-proofing aside, it has a practical application.

Comcast over-provisions their internet in many cases. So you may get higher speeds than what you pay for by using a more advanced modem like the one reviewed here.

Purchased this modem as a replacement for a similar older version Motorola cable modem. The old modem was several years old, I believe it was purchased around 2014. That is why I wanted to purchase the newer model. Easy to connect and quick to connect after calling cable company. It took longer to have the cable company setup the modem on my account than it did for me to connect the modem and for it to come online after added to my account.

    Motorola Modem

It was easy to active and set up with Comcast Xfinity using just their app. I've only had it now for a few days but no issues so far. I am seeing a speed increase as well but I was coming from a six year old Arris Surfboard. My Comcast plan is 300 mbps and with the old modem I topped out at 190 mbps and now with this modem I am achieving constant speed of around 275 mbps.

    Decent reliable cable modem

Bought this modem as it was highly rated from researching multiple sites. I also didn't want to pay a rental fee from the cable company. Reason for the 4 stars is every so often my internet stops working and I have to unplug/plug to reset then the internet works again. I have received a call from my cable company saying they're seeing a lot of ups/downs with the signal so maybe the issue is more on their end and not the modem itself.

My XFINITY modem was dropping at least once a day AND I was getting frustrated with the poor performance so I started researching the plans. I realized my plan was very old and I could save money with a new plan that included more than 4x the bandwidth. Once I started the sign up process that would take me from 150 to 700 megabits down, it said my modem was not capable of doing that. I then started to research compatible modems and Best Buy had this one available. I like the background on the company behind the modem as they seem to focus on high performance modems and routers.

I couldn't believe how fast it provisioned while I was on the phone with XFINITY. On top of that it goes from completely powered off to connected in about 30 seconds, sometimes less. My old modem took 6+ minutes to get connected.

I paired it with my EERO Pro setup and boom, fast connections on both wired and wireless. The EERO has a speed test app inside which is the absolute best place to do a speed test of your modem. Boom 700+ Mb/s all day long with no drops in over the 3 weeks I've owned it. As I sad, the old XFINITY/CISCO unit died at least once a day for periods of about 15 minutes. I bet this one stays solid until I have a power outage.

My Playstation is on the Gigagbit Ethernet side of my router. Bone crushing speed all day long and leverages the full 700 megabits over gig-E.

    Overkill.. for today and beyond.

    Overkill... And thats okay.

My ISP is upgrading all their lines and have have demanded all customer get DOCSIS 3.1 modems.

The setup process to get my device registered with my ISP was seemless.

Does what its suppose to do. Provide adequate bandwidth as Im currently getting 300down/30up without issue.

The cool thing is should I one day want to move up to gigabit this modem will get the job done... If one should there be a 10gig bandwith available this modem will still be able to get the job done.

    So far so good.

    Just picked up this week.

Was the same price as the SB8200. But this one had the 2.5Gps port (Wanted to get something future proof in case I decide to go GB upgrade)

Setup was wonky. Had to call Spectrum. Took about 45 min. Their system wouldn't recognize the MAC ID or SN on the device. And couldn't activate it. Eventually it was able to connect on their end.

Modem worked fine with computer hardwired in... but my wireless router (Airport Extreme 6th Gen) was having problems. After some resets and waiting for.. minutes... a lot of minutes, My Macbook finally recognized the green light of the modem in airport utility. Through an extended network to another (AE 6th gen) over 30 feet away through window to the other window.

    I'm on a 200mbps plan.

A couple of things to consider...

Purchased and setup on 11/14/2020. Installation was fairly straightforward except the last part where the manual tells you to log into the modem using a default username and password. I was unable to access it using the credentials in the documentation. I always change default passwords on home networking equipment so I contacted support.

Support reached in a reasonable time but the support guy had never heard of this model. I explained to him that it was brand new and confirmed the model number I gave him directly from their documentation. He finally was able to track down documentation on the modem. He never could fix the issue with the password not working as documented.

The second thing that threw me with this modem is the look. Based on the picture I thought it was tall and cylindrically shaped. It is actually short and oval shaped. Not a real issue but I felt the pictures were misleading.

I did a few speed tests. My plan is 300mbps down and 10 up. I was consistently seeing 359 down and 12 up using a direct connection into the modem. Subsequent testing after I added mesh router still yielded great speeds over wifi.

In summary, support is still coming up to speed but easy install process using my provider's website and my cellphone over LTE.

It definitely gives me all the speed I pay for. I purchased because it was on the recommended device list from my provider and can handle speeds much faster than my current plan just in case I upgrade.

Works as advertised..future proof..one minor flaw it doesn't support ethernet aggregation for the price it should but not a deal breaker only if you want to have advanced features..it starts and updates super fast with one light on the front to let you know whats going on..internet speed is excellent..pricey but great buy

Value for money with consistent connection

Its been just a month I have installed this NETGEAR wi-fi router with modem replacing the Xfinity rented ones. Undoubtedly it has reduced my bills by atleast $14. So far I haven't noticed any connection glitches. The wi-fi connection is consistent at both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The first time setup was simple as well. You just need to follow the NETGEAR NightHawk mobile app and follow the steps. Also you have to login to your ISP account and activate the modem either online or by calling the ISP helpline. In my case I did that through xfinity mobile app. At this stage it took sometime after failing for initial couple of times but it was successful after those initial hiccups. Only downside I observed is that in xfinity if we use their rented modem router they give an option to select a common wifi name for both 2.4 and 5 GHz channels which is very helpful since it minimizes any disconnection due to network switches whereas if we use 3rd party modem router like NETGEAR then xfinity doesn't give that option to chose a common wifi name. The wifi name and other configuration needs to be completed in the NETGEAR NightHawk app and it does not give these options. For the price I paid I am satisfied so far. I don't know how it will perform in the long run. I am hopeful that with timely firmware updates this device should work as expected. I found a offer in Amazon for below $100 and opted for a price match at Best Buy and thus I got this NETGEAR AC1600 Dual band modem-router C6250-100NAS for below $100 including 3 years of Geek Squad replacement warranty. If I compare it with the xfinity one that I rented, the xfinity one is superior to this in terms of features like the xfinity one was made by Arris featuring 32x4 DOCSIS 3.0 modem with 4 ethernet ports, 2 tele ports for voice, 2 USB ports. But this one doesn't feature any voice port, it has only 1 USB port and 2 ethernet ports. So you should check your requirements as well. If you had a phone or fax connected to your modem earlier then this is not for you.

Speed Variation between 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz

Lot variation of Internet speed between the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz . If connect to 5Ghz the internet speed is 100Mbps and if connected to the speed drops to 3 Mbps. I know there will be a variation between GHz but this lot variation is not acceptable because 2.4 is used for long range,And there is no use of having 3Mbps in a longer range and I cannot do the Internet.and also it fails to distribute the Internet among the devices equally.

Great router nodem fast and easy to use

This is a very good router modem it works fantastic the range is very high and the speed is amazing I had 50mb so I upgraded to 100mb with this modem router is even much better and fast, I'm using time warner so they rent the modem which was slow speed and range, so I decided to buy my own one so I don't pay them for rent and the modem they give you is not so good like this one, so is better to buy it your own one and if you want to have a good router modem I recommend this one a little more money than the other ones but you will be happy with it, you also can manage it from your pc smart phone and do a lot of things, I really like it so much I'm happy with it....

big improvement if your area supports it

I bought this to improve performance during peak hours. (I imagine not much difference if there weren't so many users) For comparison - I was using an SB6141 prior - and now I'm getting much more stable performance. I think my latency is a little worse connecting to my old router - but should be closer if I connect directly to the primary.

Bonus: Since it's also a router in-one. I went ahead and split my devices onto separate networks - to ease congestion.

SmallNetBuilder has a great series on networking basics which covers how to do this. Be sure to change the IP sub-range (192.168.xx.1) to prevent IP conflicts.

*How to check if your area supports it?

(if you go to 192.168.100.1 - that should give you access to your cable modem. If you see the channels 8+, odds are you have more to bond to. Although you can keep restarting your modem and see all the different ones it connects to)

    Works great with Xfinity!

I was skeptical going from a separate modem and router to a combo, but I'm glad I made the switch. My old combo didn't support Comcast's new speeds, so I needed to upgrade to realize the full benefits. My 5GHz wireless d/l speed went from about 100Mb/s to over 300Mb/s. Wired stayed the same, but probably because I have an outdated ethernet cable. As far as range, I live in a three story townhome. Router goes on the top floor and has no problem reaching the bottom (third) floor. Remember, internet signal is like an umbrella - it branches out and down.

Overall, extremely happy with this deal of the day (99.99)! Also, make sure you rename your SSID and use the same passwords to match your old settings so your devices will reconnect seamlessly. Download and activate through the app, then get on your PC to set up your SSID/passwords. Don't forget to change the default admin password as well!

    WARNING

So this router modem combo is only decent. It does not pull 1 gig speeds as advertised. I set it up correctly and plugged it in the most efficient way. Brand new Ethernet cable. I have the 1 gig plan with suddenlink and when I ran a speed test, I was only grabbing like a maximum of 480 mbps download, 25 mbps upload and a ping of 14. I had a suddenlink tech come out yesterday to find out what was wrong. On his end nothing was wrong and he said I should be pulling at least 750-800 mbps on download and that a lot of router modem combos and just routers and modems separately that advertise 1 gig speeds, dont usually pull speeds like that. Now it could just be a faulty model that I have but nothing seems wrong with it other than the fact that I’m averaging 390-430 mbps download when I’m paying for 1 gig speeds. That’s really all I have to say!

    Constantly drops signal

This worked great at first then after a few months became unreliable. Xfinity came out twice checked everything and replaced outside cables. Finally they said it’s got to be the modem. Arris customer support was very nice but the factory reset didn’t work. I work from home and the internet does 4 or more times per work day plus at night is unacceptable. I will be replacing this! I got this in January 2021 and problems started in July 2021. Now it’s HIGHLY unreliable.

Solid modem/extensive features marred by poor WiFi

    PROs:

    - In a relatively small space (open floorplan, smallish rooms, etc.), wireless AC performance is outstanding--wireless speeds matched wired closed to the modem/router

    - Provided QR codes and using the ARRIS app for SSID, password, login, etc. made initial setup/configuration a snap without needing an Ethernet-connected PC; I was online in less than a few minutes total after calling my cable company and giving them the MAC address of the new modem--definitely something a beginner or someone looking to simplify their lives will appreciate

    - Convenient front-panel WPS button makes password-free connection of new wireless clients simple and quick

    - Available USB port allows for attachment of storage devices with web-interface configuration/controls for file and media sharing and even USB access controls (i.e. which USB drives will you allow on the network in the first place)

    - If you are part of the McAfee protection ecosystem (or interested in joining it), the integration seems relatively smooth--I was able to log into the McAfee app and connect this unit to my existing McAfee account with further LiveSafe downloads/licenses available to me based on the ARRIS product registration/activation--this was something I could never do with last year's version of this same router)

    - If you have one of those modems/routers with a Vegas-strip style set of bright LEDs, you'll be pleased to know you can shut off all but the power indicator from within the admin interface

    - Some relatively useful configuration options and utilities in the ARRIS Surfboard app…for a beginner with little interest in expending some serious network configuration effort or someone simply looking for a [mostly] all-in-one, plug-and-play experience, this unit could be what you're looking for...

    CONs:

    - WiFi coverage and range seem very poor--even at max transmission power (adjustable from within the web admin interface), 5Ghz speeds dropped off dramatically when moving more than a few rooms away (see test results below...)

    - The included McAfee protection capabilities are actually part of a subscription service that is only good for 3 years--after that point, you'll need to determine whether the costs of a new/continued subscription is worth it...

    - Not a big deal yet...but let's hope any advances in the McAfee protection features don't require changes in the modem/router software--I can find no place in the admin interface for a firmware update

    - Some helpful and extensive security & configuration options are available in the web interface for those with the interest and know-how (firewall settings, port triggering/forwarding, AP isolation, DMZ, guest network, file & media sharing, USB access controls, MAC & IP filtering, virtual servers, AP isolation--the list was actually a bit impressive), but additional security features including parental controls WILL require a separate McAfee Secure Home Internet app which I found of limited use at this time

-- Once in the McAfee app, network clients are only listed by IP address and the NIC's manufacturer name...this didn't help for creating a trusted client list when I couldn't bring up the MAC addresses of our nearly 60+ wireless clients (esp smart devices listed by their generic NIC manufacturers) so I could start identifying and renaming them (Kid's PC, Kitchen Echo Dot, Basement Roku, etc.) and scheduling associated parental blocks, access controls, and other functions from the app

-- The app's interface suggests a somewhat intelligent/informative security agent for the router, but the app itself only gives you a little graphic depicting a "protection level" for your network with no advice as to how to make it better...when I initially started out, I had only 2 devices on the network, both on the trusted client list, and my network was still rated as being at moderate risk--but there were no recommendations as to what else I was supposed to do to make things better, either within the McAfee app, back in the ARRIS Surfboard app, or in the settings for the router itself

-- The McAfee app gives you the ability to push a [somewhat intrusive???] McAfee software "invitation" onto wireless clients the next time they try connecting to your network--but unless they do so, the clients will continue show up with a red "unprotected" shield next to them, even if you have anti-virus/malware protection installed

    - ARRIS strangely chose to put the USB port on the front of the unit--it's convenient for quick thumb-drive access I suppose, but there's no way to neatly share a larger USB-attached storage device and its associated cabling unless you hide the router itself behind furniture or under a desk

    Summary review:

I tried an ARRIS 24x8/AC2350 modem-router last year and found it provided solid AC performance, though admittedly my speed/coverage tests at that time were not as extensive as those I conduct now. But the integration of McAfee with that unit was completely broken; I could not log into the companion app to configure any parental controls or additional security features so back it went. Instead, I paired a dedicated AC2200 router w/my older ARRIS 8x4 cable modem which still provided great speed & whole-house coverage. When this 32x8/AC2350 combo unit came along, I thought I'd give ARRIS another shot and perhaps simplify my network with an all-in-one configuration while getting a boost in both modem download/upload slots and wireless speed.

Similar to last year's unit, ARRIS continues out-sourcing portions of its network security capabilities to McAfee, but at least this time the integration seems successful as I could configure parental controls, allow/ignore website requests/referrals, and create a trusted client list for my network. The web admin interface also gives you a great deal of control and flexibility over just how you want your network configured and what capabilities you'd like on tap for streaming, gaming, security, etc. That said, there are some limitations to the McAfee security app noted above, and the fact that you have to juggle/adjust settings in the SURFboard app, the McAfee app, and in the web admin interface itself means that granular control over network security, or trying to make the network experience more secure for your family, requires a great deal of overhead and unnecessary complexity jumping back and forth between apps and interfaces. I supposed once you get things dialed in to your liking that might not be such a big deal, but the simplicity and allure of an "all-in-one" solution like the one pitched here actually isn't so simplistic or alluring in practice.

But what REALLY marred the experience with this unit for me was the unexpectedly poor WiFi performance I observed in my home. My cable service delivers roughly 280-290 mbps at the modem, and our AC2200 router provided exceptional coverage near the unit with more than adequate speed for gaming and streaming at the distant recesses of our basement, with only one room where a faster 5Ghz signal wouldn't reach and thus required a switch to 2.4Ghz to maintain speeds above 20-40 mbps. At first, I was optimistic about the SBG7600 as it did provide an ever-so-slight speed boost in close proximity. But things quickly went downhill when I moved a few bedrooms away or between floors--and even then, the 2.4Ghz signal struggled for just a few megabits per second to dribble out of the router.

    Previous AC2200 router:

    - Main floor, same room as router: 276 mbps down/28.2 up

    - Main floor, 1 room away: 194 mbps down/28.6 up

    - Main floor, 3 rooms away: 143 mbps down/28.4 up

    - Top floor bedroom: 211 mbp down/28.9 up

    - Basement rec room (directly below router): 213 mbps down/28.8 up

    - Back of unfinished basement: 88.5 mbps down/21.5 up

    - Basement bathroom: no 5Ghz signal (2.4Ghz - 34.3 mbps down/21.9 up)

    ARRIS SBG7600AC2 (AC2350):

    - Main floor, same room as router: 286 mbps down/27.2 up (a little better)

    - Main floor, 1 room away: 207 mbps down/26.6 up (a little better)

    - Main floor, 3 rooms away: 33.0 mbps/26.0 up (much worse--switched to 2.4Ghz: 72.3 mbps down/25.9 up)

    - Top floor bedroom: 79.7 mbps down/26.8 up (much worse)

    - Basement rec room (directly below router): 203 mbps down/26.7 up (a little worse)

    - Back of unfinished basement: 13.8 mbps down/2.37 up (much worse--switched to 2.4Ghz: 32.2 mbps down/1.38 up)

    - Basement bathroom: no 5 Ghz signal; switched to 2.4Ghz - 2.37 mbps down/3.1 mbps up (much worse)

Given the poor 5Ghz performance, I elected beam-forming in the admin settings and broadcast the same SSID on each channel so that clients w/poor 5Ghz connections would fall back to 2.4Ghz [typically] without intervention. But even then, wireless range/throughput left quite a bit to be desired. Obviously your situation will be different than mine, and those of you with a smaller dwelling or need connectivity only in close proximity to the router might be fine with what you see here--it's not a dedicated AC router after all.

For me though, the value proposition here is questionable. You can save some money buying this all-in-one vs. a separate 32x8 modem & AC2200 or better router, but you sacrifice a LOT in speed & coverage (if you need it) and flexibility for expansion/new capabilities (i.e. I've since moved to an AX11000 mesh router and it's AMAZING). Lots of [admittedly useful] options would likely make this feel daunting for those not needing/desiring a great deal of configuration control; but the baked-in, low-drag security is also a bit hit-or-miss. Some aspects are helpful (I'm actually keeping this unit to manage a guest network with AP isolation so all clients are off the main network), but the security app feels limited in its current state and the McAfee services themselves have a shelf life of only 3 years.

    One Solution Modem

To clarify, this is not a router. The ARRIS SURFboard AC2350 is a modem/router combo and requires that you contact your ISP (internet service provider) prior to use. Check if it is compatible with your ISP before purchase.

    ---SETUP---

The setup of this modem was quicker than the time I spent talking to Spectrum, my ISP. I was on the phone for 16 minutes, but the installation only took 40 seconds. Coaxial cable goes in only 1 location and the power plug is all you need to connect. Take pictures of the network names, security key, and HFC MAC address prior to calling and installing, as this will help facilitate your installation process.

    ---FEATURES---

The key feature of this modem is that it acts as a wireless router with both, 2.4 and 5ghz bands for speeds up to 2350 Mbps. It includes 4 ethernet ports which support up to 1.4 Gbps of download speed. It also has a WPS button for easier connection to wireless devices.

    ---PERFORMANCE---

The performance after my ISP successfully activated my modem, I did a speed test. I pay for 300 Mbps down and 20 up. Tethered, I was getting 350 down and 22 up, which is great! On the wireless front, I was getting download speeds of 71.1 Mbps and 22 upload, which is not bad for the wireless devices I use.

    ---EXPECTATIONS---

The product meets my expectations. Using my previous router, I was getting WiFi download speeds of 50 Mbps for gaming. Not bad, but a 20 Mpbs increase is always welcome. Of course, now that this modem has 4 ethernet ports, I connected all my consoles and gaming PC using an ethernet cable for each and all devices achieved over 300 Mbps that way. Impressed. I tried downloading the app for McAfee, to set up the included 3 year secure home internet that should prevent attacks from the point of entree as well as give parental control, but it failed so often that I stopped trying. It isn’t needed for the functionality of the modem and I love it without it. I have my own security that I run on my network. At 9 ½ inches, it is taller than my previous modem, but I have it in an open space.

    ---VALUE---

The price for the modem in terms of value can save you money over time, as most ISPs charge a monthly fee for you to use their rental modem. Spectrum used to charge 5 dollars a month (back when it was Time Warner) but they did away with the monthly charge. Still, the loaned device didn’t have the 4 ethernet ports which are of great value to multi-console owners. It saves you from having to get two devices connected, as it is all in one.

    ---APPROVAL---

I highly recommend this product for people who require a single-device solution to WiFi and extra ethernet ports. This modem can handle high speeds and it is of great value to gamers.

    A good and reliable product

I replaced this router/modem combo from Netgear . I am very happy with Arris. Both 2.4G and 5G work and fast as expected. It has been almost 2 months now, only one time 2.4G network had some issue.

Save rental costs with Arris WiFi cable modem

It was easy to follow the setup instructions for my ARRIS SBG7600AC2 WiFi cable modem. Connect the coax cable, then PC network cable to the yellow moden jack and plug in the power pack, that simple.

Next I went to my IP's activation screen, entered my sign-in name and password, and waited a few minutes for them to authorize my new equipment.

I like being able to control the front console LEDS (ON or OFF).

The SSID names for the 2.4 and 5 ghz radios were also quickly setup to my home's names and everything worked as usual. Only needed to restart my wink hub, hue hub, and electric meter hub to get them to re-recognize the WiFi network.

The unit looks sharp, nother super fancy. Afterall, it works and is usually out of site. The network speed test showed expected results. The benefit will be when you are streaming and anther user is gaming and someone else is browsing the web. The moden has multiple internal channels to take care of the traffic.A solid Motorola product!

The best option for cable modems

The best option for cable modems. No really, I normally would have nothing nice to say about a cable modem but that was back when I would use the default from my cable provider or buy one from some other provider. Since switching to Netgear a few years ago I have had nothing but great speeds and hardly any downtime. When I bought this model it was not that I needed to replace a non-working model. It's that I also upgraded my Orbi wifi router and I wanted a modem that handled the faster speeds that the Orbi could shell out. I already had the super-fast internet but needed both the modem and router to get its full speed. Now that both devices have been upgraded I am all set. I have been using this cable modem now for about 3-4 months and no problems. Netgear has really been on top of networking and I could not recommend this cable modem enough. Especially if you are running or going to be running the new Orbi system.

Others may have better luck, i didn't

Modem still not working. Returned first I bought of this model that ended up being defective. I sprnd over 2 hours on phone with both our cable provdee and the modem manufacturer. Brst Buy exchanged for another one. Real easy to exchsnge with receipt. Then spent over 2 more hours on phone trying to get the replacement to work. This time xable modem worked but it would not work with out router. As long as you plugged directly into modem, you got great hard wired speed. Could not get it to work with wifi at all. I spend over 240 minutes trying to get this to work, over two weekends and an additional trip to Best Buy to replace it. We finally gave up. I was out of town the last couple weekends and when i tried to return it, with receipt. In original box, packed as new, even still had the box wrapper. Best Buy would not return or even give me a store credit for it. Now I am stick with an expensive paper weight . I will look at using amazon or new egg to get another modem. Best Buy should have at least issued a store credit. They were aware of the isdues that I was having trying to get it to work.

    Pretty darn good!

So far this is working more reliably than my old Arris SB8200. I was having issues with the Arris modem almost daily. Mainly I think it was some communication issues between my ISP/modem/router/extender. I got fed up and decided to buy this netgear modem.

This netgear modem (Nighthawk 32x8 DOCSIS 3.1) has not randomly stopped talking to my router or decide to restart in the middle of daily activities. My Arris would constantly have these issues and more.

The Netgear LED’s are no where near as bright as the Arris’s (annoyingly bright blue LED). Which I prefer “blacked out” or low brightness because I don’t necessarily hide my tech.

The netgear modem stands tall but is reasonably slim I think. I do like the colors of this modem over others. Green LED lights, black casing with a matte grey brushed looking plate surrounding the lights.

My max internet speeds are hitting the router so it’s doing the job right. I haven’t yet gone Gig but I’m a plan below pretty consistently at 450Mbps down and 22Mbps up.

You will have to compliment the modem with a good router or mesh system. The reason I say this is because if you have a good modem but terrible routers you’re limiting your WiFi.

A good modem with a good WiFi setup will ensure you are getting what you pay for in terms of internet speeds.

Overall I would recommend this modem. I will be buying Netgear Modem’s in the future from now on.

    Great Cable Modem

After purchasing a different cable modem that was defective, I opted this route and am very pleased with its performance. Hook up was easy and connection was automatic with Comcast. With the savings from renting a modem, I not only upgraded my speed, but also added the Netgear AC1750 Dual-Band Wi-Fi 5 Router to the setup (will need some type of router for Wi-Fi connections, as this is just a cable modem). I would recommend this cable modem.

Super easy setup. Compatible with Spectrum.

I purchased this combo wireless router/modem because Spectrum no longer allows you to turn off the 5G wireless signal in their wireless routers. (Look up Beverly Rubik and her experiments with 4G wireless phones and the effects on our blood cells as well as declassified U.S. and Russia govt documents on 5G). The cox cable screws directly into the modem and there is no setup required. The signal immediately broadcasts and the network password is on the label on the router. You can download Netgear Genie to modify your router settings i.e. password, network name, disable 5G signal, enable guest wifi, set a timer so that the wifi signal turns off for specific time periods (great for regulating your kids' nighttime internet usage). Oh, and you can even bring up a network map and see all the devices connected to your network and BLOCK THE DEVICES. Whenever my teen son doesn't do his chores, homework, etc., or plays video games for too long), I simply cut off his devices ;)

I also use the wired (ethernet) Netgear Powerline (data through the powerlines/electrical outlets) and the setup is super easy. I have Spectrum phone, which only works when using Spectrum's modem, so I used a cox cable splicer to screw in one cox cable to Spectrum's router and the other cox cable to screw into the Netgear AC1200 router; again, no issues at all in terms of compatibility. I am also going to purchase this router for my dad's place since he doesn't want to be zapped with 5G radiation either.

In our home, we often have a gaming PC, 1-2 roku sticks streaming, a laptop or two going, etc. all at the same time, and we always have sufficient network signal.

    Amazing modem/router

This router is awesome. Super easy to setup. Full speed on the cat6's running from my router located downstairs into my room upstairs. The speed on the 5GHz wifi band is good and the range on the 2.4GHz band is exceptional. I can connect to my wifi from my neighbor's house across the street.....Only downside would be the price as it is fairly high but if u want something that's reliable and fast, bite the bullet and get this. I haven't played around with any other networking settings so I can't attest to how well it can handle those things if you are an advanced user but for speed, range, and connecting many devices wirelessly this router is great.

But please note. I went into the system interface to make some adjustments to squeeze out the maximum speed. But it works fine when it comes right out the box.

    Much better than spectrums router

This router is faster and works way better than your cable providers router. It’s a little pricey but well worth it in the long run; especially if you work from home.

Easy to use! Worth the money!!

Easy to use and setup. I have xfynity and with the use of the xfynity app and the netgear app my new modem was up and running within 10 minutes of the apps updating its software and setting up the connection. All i did was put the app to work and walked away. 10 mins later my whole internet was up and running all i had to do was rename my connection and setup the password! Highly recommend for anyone looking for fast speed and beginner level modem shoppers

    fast and easy

wow, I really like this router. You have to wonder why I have been paying my cable company $14 per month for the last... oh 100 years... to rent their lousy router???

This NightHawk is built for speed and easy use. It just never goes out, the internet is always there for me and lightning fast. I do have it plugged into a battery backup - duh - I learned that lesson once upon a time.

This 6 stream dual band WiFi 6 router keeps all your devices happy at the same time, You will appreciate how reliable it is on multiple devices. And yes, simple set up.

    Netgear Nighthawk AX Router/Modem

I bought the Netgear Nighthawk AX2700 in order to replace a previous Netgear Nighthawk C7000 in order to get 802.11AX and Docsis 3.1. Previous C7000 was only giving me a maximum of 315mbps on 5ghz . After upgrading to the AX2700, I am seeing 650mbps downloads now on 5ghz channel. My old router didn't support the faster speed tiers offered by Comcast, but now I am ready to upgrade to the 1200mbps package that they offer.

    Bravo Netgear!

Wow I am impressed. I have Xfinity network and setup was really easy with this device. I did everything from the NightHawk app, and anyone who has purchased a Netgear device knows how awful netgear genie is. The NightHawk app is more modern and streamlined with configuration being done for you but you can still name your network and give it a password. After this I logged into the router VIA web browser, and I am impressed. They have more configurations you can setup plus the interface is no longer an eye sore lol and this was really my wow moment, but you can actually manage IPv6!!!!! With this router Netgear finally lets you set your own IPv6 dns settings. For you parents out there you can actually Block sites, and services. If you don't want your kid going to a specific site or using a service you can actually tell the AX2700 to block requests from that site. You can also setup email notifications to alert you about this. One more thing I noticed about this router is that you can install firmware updates from the app or web interface. Which is insane considering you always have to wait for Xfinity to push the firmware update to you. I am actually just really surprised at how many options you have compared to previous Netgear modem/routers. I didn't look at tech website reviews before buying this, I just saw wi-fi 6 and a voice said "future proof" so I bought it. I had no ideal what I was getting into. I have wi-fi 6 in my desktop and laptop and connectivity has been amazing! Even on older devices connectivity has been superb.

Best money spent!! Don’t rent from xfinity!!

Huge upgrade from my previous Router / Modem.

Xfinity is my internet provider and it was a sinch to get this one set up.

Basically my last one lasted 5 years so this one was free considering how much I have saved on rental fees.

I went from 80 gbs on my 5G channel to 450gbs!!!

I could get a better plan and go a lot faster but 400 is plenty.

Anyways, this is a must buy if you rent through Xfinity. It’s easy to set up through the xfinity app.

    Nighthawk AX2700 Router

Switched to this because my existing modem/router was at the end of life. Needed tech support to help with connecting it as you need your cell phone to do so. My cell service doesn’t work that well in my home. I call Netgear tech support to get me up and running and they guided me thru without the use of my cell phone. Up and running with no problems. They even called me the next day to make sure everything was working ok.

    What a Difference

My Netgear Nighthawk cable modem finally died after many years of service so I replaced it with this Netgear Orbi. Right away I noticed a huge difference in the Wi-Fi signal strength throughout our condo. The hard wired attached TV typically had 400+ mbps whilst Wi-Fi devices typically would have less than 40mbps. Now Wi-Fi signal strength even in the back bedrooms are showing 200 to over 300mbps. Previously I had 4 Wi-Fi extenders located around the condo and they barely made a difference, now with just one Orbi satellite I’m getting awesome Wi-Fi everywhere. Currently it’s a full retail so I was a little disappointed but I couldn’t wait for it to go on sale.

    Easy setup, great performance

My need was to correct dead spots in house. I purchased ORBI Mesh networking to fix the problem and it did! My side benefit was getting rid of the Comcast modem/router saving me $10/month.

Installation of system was easy with no problems or phone call help. Comcast activation was automatic during setup process. I noticed that downloads were faster ie 75mbps comcsst and 125mbps on the ORBI. Signal strength is strong and equal and we have had no dropouts since installation.

We have 2000sqft with bonus room/office upstairs. The modem is located there. There are 3 computers connected to that modems ethernet ports. The satellite is downstairs in family room. We have complete coverage on ground level including porch and back yard/garage.

System has been up about 30 days as of this review. Highly recommend the ORBI, price is a little high but small price to pay for eliminating inet drop outs on laptops, TV and phone.

    Upgraded Old Orbi

I needed to replace my old Orbi system since the satellite quit responding after 1.5 years of use. Couldn't revive it. It was spend $250 for a new satellite or $399 for this setup and replace the cable modem which was costing me $10/m. The difference between this and just a new satellite is just over a years of savings by getting rid of the leased modem. So I took the plunge. Because the last one didn't last 2 years, I got the Geek Squad replacement deal with this one.

It's been a month now and I'm glad I did this. Went from two large items on my shelf to one. Because of a few power outages, I've witnessed the reboot time of this is half of what the leased modem was.

The only downside is I also have home security with the cable company and they had to install a separate "secure" router between my modem and their touchscreen. It's small and not noticeable.

I originally got the Orbi because I have a few Nest security cameras and they'd keep dropping off the network. This has stopped that. I just hope this setup lives a lot longer than the last one did.

    Hallelujah!

Awesome product! I have Spectrum internet that was always droppping out. Especially my Nest camera's. I tried every solution Spectrum offered...even changing out spectrum routers to no avail. Then I found Orbi. Once this mesh system was installed, I have not lost connection at all. If you are having problems with keeping connection, this is your fix. My house is stucco on the outside, and it seems to have been preventing external connection with my exterior cameras. Orbi fixed all that. My outdoor connection is awesome now!

    It Made a Difference

The Netgear Orbi AC2200 Tri-band Wi-Fi system has replaced an Netgear 900 (3 years old). We have more than a dozen devices at home using wi-fi and the old router would slow down significantly during peak usage. We placed the satellite in the area we had problem before and It totally solved the problem.

The new Orbi has a built-in modem so we got rid of the old one too. So far the system has worked flawlessly for the first month since purchasing. Every device needs internet access has worked faster without issue.

It was a very good investment indeed.

    On the fence,,,NOT worth $400

I bought this unit ($400) thinking I was upgrading from another Netgear product (Nighthawk-$300) after reading all the reviews. It has been three weeks now and most of devises are working fine, still having intermittent problems with my TV and I can't connect to one of my Ring devices. Netgear tech support says I need to reconfigure my ip address, CableONe says that I don't. Geek squad chat line came up with nothing, hung up after waiting 10+ mins with BBGS, I'm about to try calling them again, lets see what happens,,,,,,

We were getting speeds, in and around the house, of 30-40mbps (0 mbps in the back yard) We are now getting speeds of 150-200mbps, even in the back yard. I highly recommend this product. We currently have 56 smart devices connected to the internet and it works flawlessly.

Smart, Effective Internet Gateway - MG8702

Motorola MG8702 is an all-in-one router and modem, $270 at Best Buy, with the latest technology for your growing array of Internet-connected devices. In concert with the Minim app, the MG8702 is a Minim-enabled router.

Promising easy set up and operation, there is also a depth of available customized settings to accommodate any user’s wants or needs.

Best suited for homes up to about 2500 square feet, the MG8702 should do a fine job in the average small home or apartment.

Here, it will be set up in a centrally located closet on a high shelf in our modest 1400 sq. foot home.

    **WHAT’S IN THE BOX**

    • THIS DOCSIS 3.1/3.0 Cable modem with AC3200 Wi-Fi 5 Router

    • Power Adapter

    • Ethernet Cable

    • Velcro Cable Tie

    • Coax wrench

    • Instructions to download the Minim app (from iOS or Google app stores)

    **THE SETUP**

This should still be a painless DIY installation.

Before starting, note the phone number for your ISP tech support line, which may be needed if there is existing equipment that needs to be removed from your account and if the old equipment needs to be returned.

Users can perform simple setup using default values or customize the setup for gamers or make settings to keep younger Internet users from visiting unapproved sites. This, and more, are all part of the Minim app settings.

Everyone’s requirements are unique, so I will not get into my specifics here, except to reiterate that this was among the easiest setups of its type I have encountered.

Another plus is that the MG8702 is a DOCSIS 3.1, the latest, fastest cable modem standard, capable of working with the greatest number of devices. With its built-in Wi-Fi router, there are also four gigabit speed capable Ethernet ports for hard-wire connection to devices, such as a computer, TV, game system and cable set-top box, to name a few. Built-in gigabit-capable Wi-Fi is another important consideration for the future. My rule and advice to others is to use wired connections wherever possible and wireless only where necessary.

With these preliminaries out of the way, it’s time to install!

    **PUT TO THE TEST**

Before installation, I made notes of signal strength all around the house and outside in order to have the comparison with the old equipment, a 4-year-old modem and even older router. There is a wireless Ring video doorbell at the front door and a Ring video security camera high on a wall on one side of the house. We are familiar with signal strength of both of those devices. Other wirelessly connected devices include mobile phones, an old Internet radio, Roku streaming device, Google Home Mini speaker, an old tablet, Rachio automatic sprinkler timer and a Nest Thermostat. Wired connections include a computer, TV, cable set-top box and a DVD player.

Spectrum made the switch from old to new seamlessly. For clarification, an ISP is not involved in the user’s choice of router, but with a combination unit like this, also known as an Internet Gateway, that is a different story.

In our case, with a browser window open, the wired connection to the router knew that a new modem was connected. Prompted to enter the unique MAC address numbers and serial number from the sticker and with our acceptance, Spectrum activated the MG8702.

In less than 10 minutes, it was up and running.

Through the Minim app, we went on to customize several settings, including our own SSID (network name) and password, to name just a few. Additional users may be added. EVERY user’s setup and customization may be different.

    **HOW DID IT PERFORM?**

I am pleased to report that the new technology works perfectly. Signal strength to the Ring doorbell and security camera is improved. There is no detectable slowdown regardless of how the network was taxed, such as when streaming 4K video.

The signal is stronger at the extremities of the property, too, with adequate signal to sit in the back yard and listen to music over Wi-Fi through a phone. Similarly, there is strong Wi-Fi for listening to podcasts while gardening in the front yard.

    **NOTABLE MINIM WISH-LIST ITEMS**

The Minim app setup does not currently allow users to see the password entry nor does it prompt to enter it a second time for confirmation and to avoid errors. I am confident this will be addressed in the future.

While there is the useful and necessary capability to restart the network, the link to do so is a bit buried. This is another feature revision that should be addressed in Minim app updates. Over time, Minim will continue to see feature and usability updates making the app an even greater asset.

    **CONCLUSION**

This Motorola MG8702 is a welcome upgrade to the old setup. Once the setup was completed, that was that. Isn’t that the objective? Just set it and forget it!

The Minim app monitors usage in several ways and will keep the firmware, that is, the software inside the MG8702, up to date whenever revisions are detected.

Highly recommended for the purpose and home size for which it is intended!

The powerful Minim app offers a host of useful features including the following as provided by the manufacturer:

Easy guided setup. Scan your device QRcode and go!

Auto-manages all connected devices. This app is not just for mesh Wi-Fi products, it is a unified app that manages all Minim-compatible gateways and routers, too.

Advanced threat protection. Delivers network and device-level security alerts, ad blocks, malware blocks, and security insights.

Activity feed notification. You will receive information on all network events including new device connections, security incidents, router updates/reboots, and connection status.

Speed tests. You can diagnose connectivity issues with built-in network and device speed tests.

Parental controls. Create family profiles and control access.

Usage monitoring. Track data usage across devices and profiles including bandwidth and time usage by top sites visited over time, signal strength over time, and more.

    **WARRANTY**

The manufacturer warrants the MG8702 against defects in material and workmanship for two years.

    Ultra-Fast Dependable Networking Made Easy!

I typically don't believe in dual purpose modem and router devices. The ultra-fast DOCSIS 3.1 Motorola MG8702 has managed to convince me that modem/router combos do work and can deliver a simplified and better experience than a setup with individual devices.

    Contents as delivered in package:

    • MG8702 DOCSIS 3.1 modem/AC3200 WIFI router

    • Coaxial wrench

    • Quick setup cards

    • Power adapter

    • LAN cable

Motorola's MG8702 delivers an ultra-fast experience as stated. It appears robust and has been delivering consistent fast connectivity since setting it up. I only needed to call my internet provider (Xfinity) to provide my MAC ID; we were up and running in about 10 minutes.

Supported wireless standards are IEEE 802.11ac, n, g, b and a. There are also four Gigabit LAN ports. Four internal dual-band antennas help deliver up to 1000 Mbps and 2167 Mbps with the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios respectively. MU-MIMO (Multiple-User Multiple Input Multiple Output) and the power boost wireless amplifiers ensure devices stay solidly connected in my nearly three level 1800 sq ft townhome. You may create up to four SSIDs ( two for each band). The device also provides a 3.0 USB port for network storage, if needed. The front of the unit houses the various LEDs to notify status (i.e. internet availability, DOCSIS connection status, USB port utilization etc.)

To maximize good hardware potential, the software designed to run it must also be just as good. The Minim Smart WiFi App takes advantage of the hardware and simplifies control of the device. It affords users ability to easily perform many tasks that typically require several steps with other manufacturers. To begin, you create an account and then scan the QR code (located underneath device) to link. A default SSID and password can also be found underneath; these can be changed. In my previous setup involving a triband wireless router, I had two SSIDs configured; one for the 2.4Ghz radio and the other for the two 5Ghz bands. The Minim App allows this configuration in very simple steps as previously stated. Other features of the App include:

    • Information on device speed test and signal strength

    • New device addition notification

    • Capture of time spent by each device and content viewed with parental control feature

    • Data used by each device (and their signal strength) with corresponding timestamps

    • Ability to create profiles and group devices to these user profiles

    • Timeline of changes made to the device

    • Ability to manually categorize devices (i.e. tablet, cellphone, appliance etc.) when the App failed to automatically do it

The ease of use cannot be overemphasized. If you are comfortable and require additional tweaks, you can always do so via the default sign on ID and password through the 192.168. 0.1 IP address. This would be required if for instance you needed to change the default wireless security encryption from WPA2-PSK (AES) to another. In my experience, I created the previous SSIDs and passwords. This had all my devices up and running in no time; it was that seamless and the Minim App couldn't have made it easier.

If I could improve this device, I would include a second 5Ghz radio and make it WIFI 6 compliant. I am a converted believer and have nothing but praise for the Motorola MG8702 and the Minim App. The setup ease, solid hardware specs and user control delivered makes this a high recommendation in my books. I look forward to many years of robust performance from a trusted brand!

    Excellent Combination Modem/Router

I’m usually hesitant with Router/Modem combinations as from my previous testing they haven’t worked too well (mainly wireless stability and range) and I usually run into issues when trying to pair it with another router to get better speeds, range, and/or gaming benefits (duma OS). Thankfully, it appears they had this in mind as there is a button on the back of the device that allows you to turn on/off wireless. You can tell if the wireless is ON by seeing the wireless buttons light up on the front (two total, one for the 2.4 GHz band, and one for the 5 GHz band) or OFF when well off. Which allowed me to pair this very easily with my Gaming Router.

Speaking of my gaming router, I did some testing to see how the AC3200 Wireless Router compared to my Netgear XR500 AC2600 Wireless Router. I was impressed that it had nearly the same distance as my other router, with very similar speeds, and very solid connections throughout my entire house even into the garage. The dedicated gaming router still won out (range, speed, and OS) but not by enough to justify the cost of buying it if you already had this. I had great ping times, download, and upload speeds. They were consistent across the board without any drops or difficulty connecting and I was getting the same speeds wired as wireless (360 down/30 up) when close by on the 5 GHz band with impressive speeds on the 2.4 GHz band as well. If I didn’t already own the other device there would be no reason to go shopping for another wireless router. So, they have eliminated nearly all my concerns with combinations this time around. The only lacking component was that the OS system isn’t as cool as Duma OS. But I was still able to do all my gaming needs such as port forwarding and triggering and other things without any issues. Plus having it setup in the same place is convenient. Especially when paired with Minim App instead of going through the online Web Browser.

This modem supports multiple ISP Providers such as Xfinity, Cox, Spectrum, and Charter. My personal one is Cox and the setup was straightforward and easy. I disconnected my old box and then needed to activate this new box. Some users may already have this setup, so they can do it through their PC and Cox Account. Other uses like myself may need to call Cox directly to get it setup but either process is easy and doesn’t take a lot of time. After that you just need to go to the setup page to create your own wireless names and passwords.

This guy comes with pretty much all the specs your average person would want/need and mostly comes with top of the line specs. I won’t bore you with the specifics, but some highlights are Docsis 3.1 (newest is 4.0), IEE 802.11 ac/n/g/b/a (currently up to date), MU-MIMO (current), Powerboosting/beamforming (current). It also is NOT Wifi 6 but that is okay as it would make this dramatically more expensive and most people wouldn’t need it. It comes with four Gigabit LAN ports. I like that these ports have lighting to know what is going on. If they are blinking they are transmitting data. If it is greenthen it is using 1,000 Mbps (AKA gigabit speeds) (dependent on device and what internet speeds you are paying for) and if it is amber it is supporting <100 Mbps.

Some other aspects that I enjoyed is that the front of the device tells you all the information you need. Such as power on/off, dedicated download speed, dedicated upload speed, internet, LAN, 2.4 GHz wireless, 5 GHz wireless, WPS, and USB. If you are using high speeds it will change the lights from green to blue to ensure it is working correctly which is nice if something were to go wrong, you could troubleshoot a lot more easily. The only thing missing is the ability to turn off these lights which is feature on my Gaming Router that I like a lot since it is in the same room that I sleep. Instead I need to cover them. There is a lot of light bleed on the right side and the lights themselves are bright which can bother those who want a perfectly dark room.

In general, I have nothing negative to say about this modem/router combination. You get great speeds, excellent reach, easy setup, strong connections, and you can customize a great number of things if you so wish. There are also a lot of hardware settings such as a dedicated power on/off for the entire unit, dedicated wireless on/off, and dedicated WPS. Which makes it an easy recommendation from me.

    Great cable modem/router combo

Love it. I had lots of issues with my internet and tried 3 different modem/router combos from other manufacturers but this Motorola is the one that resolves my months long network issues. I am not talking just about speed problems but loosing connection completely several times a week (sometimes even several times a day) for several months. Ever since I got this Motorola everything has been working fine with no issues at all. Speed got much better too but most importantly not one single disconnection yet.

Setup was very easy, plug it to power, attach coax line and activate it. Then just customize Wi-Fi settings and it’s ready to go. Great gui interface and lots of settings to customize your network. I love Parental Control which lets me create policy for kids devices and set a time limits for their use. My other favorite thing is Control Device option which lets me to turn on/off network for any of the devices on my network.

Definitely increased strength of the Wi-Fi compared to any previous router I have used.

You can get a recommended mobile app called minim but I need to be honest and say that I did not like it. It was sending too many false alerts on every device connection (or reconnection). Then it messed up my WiFi settings and renamed them to two different networks (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) instead of one same name like I preferred to. Also it was giving me wrong data reports too, saying for example that my iPad used 360GB of data in just a few hours which is not possible, and my all devices using over 1TB for just a few hours. Very good device but horrible phone app which needs some work. App use it’s not required.

This modem has resolved all my internet issues: disconnections, speed and signal strength and I am extremely happy with it.

    Pros:

    Easy setup

    Stable network

    Great speed

    Increased signal strength

    Customizable settings

    Cons:

Not a device problem but recommended mobile app is not good

    Impressive

This Motorola Modem/Router is very impressive. Equipped with gigabyte speeds and Doscis 3.1 it makes the internet fly as I have gigabyte service with Comcast. Out of the box it comes with a power cord, a wrench, cable strap, and ethernet cable. I immediately downloaded the app Minim and used that as part of my setup. Setup was easy. This modem can truly handle the advertised speeds because it was hitting all the marks for me. While the modem is 5 star the router is less impressive. The router leaves parts of my 1900 Sq. Ft home with a weak connection. That is disappointing. However since I am limited to full star reviews I still give it 5 stars. My actual feeling is 4.5 stars because of the weaker than expected router range. That however cannot detract from the fact it has no hiccups as a modem and delivers exceptionally well. Of course today everything has an app and Motorola does pretty good job with theirs. It is helpful to the overall user experience. I owned an Arris modem previously and I must say Motorola is a step above. The multiple downstream and upstream options are a plus along with the 4 ethernet ports. My last product had 2. Buy this modem/ router today and be assured you have purchased the latest standard available. Motorola has an impressive product here.

    All in one solution

If you are looking to simplify your modem/router combination with an all-in-one unit or maybe tired of renting a unit from your cable company – this is worth a look.

Overall, it is a nice unit and do recommend for most homes. It stacked up very well to my current Arris SB6190 DOCSIS 3.0 (32 x 8) modem and Linksys Velop MX10 AX 2 node mesh system. Ethernet connected speeds were same on both systems and surprisingly the wi-fi speeds were just a tad higher on the Motorola unit. But for me the wi-fi did not provide a strong enough signal to reach some of my devices – resulting in on/off connection issues to these. To be fair my computer room is located at one end of the house and the devices having issues were on the absolute opposite end of the house/property – requiring signal to go over 80 feet and through several interior and 6-inch exterior walls and it just was not strong enough. Moving unit to a more central location would probably fix this issue but it just is not possible for me to do that. I researched and could not find any info if you could possibly add a satellite node at some point to create a mesh network. I am not a fan of extenders. I was provided with a contact at Motorola (a perk of being a TIN member) and sent email asking if a node could be added but after 4 days have not received a reply. If it is possible to create a mesh network, then problem solved but so far cannot confirm. This might be something to consider too if/when moving to a larger home. Because I wanted to use a DOCSIS 3.1 modem I wound up turning off the Motorola wi-fi and connecting my Linksys Velop mesh system to the modem. No issues doing this but defeats purpose of having/paying an all-in-one.

Everything to get you started is in the box.

Modem/Router – 9.5 x 2.8 x 9.75 inches and 34.4 ounces (which I found to be surprisingly light). It is a tad deep and tall but needs to allow for 4 dual-band internal antennas with Power Boost amplifiers. Modem component has the latest DOCSIS 3.1 – allowing for gigabyte speeds from network provider such as Cox or Xfinity and has 4 10/100/1000 Mbps ethernet connections.

Router wi-fi component is rated at AC3200 – allowing for theoretical download speeds of 3200 Mbps. Allows for 32 Downstream and 8 upstream channels/devices.

Also has 1 USB 3.0 for DLNA (does not seem to support printer).

Small power brick with sideway plug, not ideal as for all my power strips it needed to be on the end, or it would block at least 2 openings.

Cat 5e around 5-foot ethernet cable

Coax wrench – nice touch so you do not have to find an open-end wrench to fit.

Basically, no instructions provided so I went out to Motorola website and downloaded the quick start startup and user guides.

    Installation;

The quick start guide is incredibly detailed and provides step by step instructions as well as contact numbers for the largest internet providers. To authorize you need to provide your S/N and MAC address – which is on the bottom of the modem. The default Network name (SSID) and wi-fi password as well as router access info of IP address and default username and password are all on the bottom too. So, do yourself a favor and take a picture so you have the info readily available. Once authorized you can access the unit by opening a webpage using the provided IP address or download the MotoManage app to your phone. I used the webpage for my initial setup - changing default username and password to something unique to me. To make transition as easy as possible I also renamed the network name (SSID) and network password to what I was currently using. This should allow most, if not all your connected devices to find and connect to the new unit. I have up to 48 devices connected at times and most did auto re-connected. Also, I had all the devices named so I could easily identify them on the old network and have a spreadsheet that has my given name as well as the devices MAC address (does not normally change) and IP address (which could change depending on your wi-fi IP range) – this really helps identify your devices. Modem is backward compatible to DOCSIS 3.0, 2.0 & 1.1.

Front of unit has a series of lights that are easily decipherable indicating power on/off, downstream, upstream, online, 2.4 GHz usage, 5 GHz usage, WPS, USB and rear panel.

Back of unit has USB 3.0 DLNA connection, WPS/WLAN buttons, reset, 4 ethernet 10/100/1000 Mbps, coax connection, on/off and power connection. Ethernet connection will blink Amber if 10/100 Mbps or Green if 1 Gbps.

After setting up network, etc. using webpage I downloaded the Motorola app. I did not allow camera access and now it asks me each time I open the app – which is getting irritating. Overall, app is okay and does provide more info than can be accessed using webpage. You can track usage by device which could be nice to help determine what is eating up your data limit. Can really drill down into the real guts of the system, which to be honest is above my pay grade – so left alone for the most part. Can setup security, etc. I did receive a notice that after 30 days I could continue to pay monthly fee, but it was not clear as to what the fee was for? In looking through user manual it just mentions fee is for “advanced features”?

    2-year warranty.

    Cons;

All in ones can be pragmatic if 1 component fails.

Cannot determine whether adding a node to create mesh network is possible.

What are the “advanced features” monthly fee is for? And why would I be charged for something?

Overall a nice all-in-one that for most homes will be more than enough.

    Great modem for budget

I paired the modem with NETGEAR Nighthawk Smart WiFi Router (R6700) - AC1750 (purchased earlier). On speedtest.com easily getting speeds over 500 download and 12 upload. The wifi runs smoothly with more than 11 devices at the same time. No overheating issues. Resetting the modem is very easy . It also runs the phone service from comcast.

    Good Cable Modem

The first one I got had some type of problem and would not pass an IP on to my router. Netgear was absolutely no help and just kept telling me to contact Comcast.

The second one works like a champ. On my Gig service I consistently get 920 to 960mb download speeds and about 40mb upload speed.

It did seem a bit pricey and time will tell if it was worth the price.

    Very satisfied.

Excellent modem for Xfininty Gig. speeds

I have been very happy with the performance of my new Netgear modem.

My first Netgear product was the CM500V - Docsis 3.0 modem @ 571 Mbps.

This was on 24 hours a day for several years and worked perfectly.

It was now time for an upgrade.

I now have a new Netgear CM1150V - Docsis 3.1 modem with voice for Gigabit Speed.

This was very easy to set up with Xfinity and, my new updated 1000 Mbps. plan.

I am very pleased with my new purchase. The CM1150V is performing flawlessly and, I am now getting the speeds I was looking for @ 850 - 950 Mbps. This will also future proof my system for a long time. I attached a USB powered 120 mm 5 volt fan with Velcro dots to the right side of the modem and, an outlet power adapter. The modem runs very cool to the touch now… NO HEAT AT ALL. This is on 24 hours a day for voice.

From my personal experience, I would highly recommend this Netgear modem

for great performance. You won’t be disappointed!

    Excellent Upgrade From Xfinity XB6

    BACKSTORY

I have had GIGABIT Internet (part of my triple play package) with Xfinity since it hit my area. Xfinity installed their XB6 modem and everything was good to go. I purchased this Netgear modem for issues with the XB6. I live in Acushnet, MA and the cable infrastructure is terrible from Xfinity. They are "working" on fixing the town, so we shall see...

I was on my 3rd XB6 modem from Xfinity. I was experiencing drops in speeds (at times could only get 400 down) almost daily. My home has NEW RG6 cable from Xfinity and I have a RG11 drop from the pole. I am also properly grounded and have no noise in the house (via Xfinity tech's test). The tap on the pole has been switched NUMEROUS times by the Xfinity line techs. They have also switched the COMMSCOPE CSMAPDU9VP Amplifier 4 times.

The tech would test at the tap at the pole (full speed with no issues), test at the amplifier (again no issues but replaced 4 times), test from the amplifier to the RG6 line at the XB6 modem (again no issues), but when tested from the XB6 it would only test at less than desirable speeds (not within parameters). Tech's would scratch their heads and just replace the modem. After doing this 3 times, I got tired of paying the $13.00 a month lease fee and unreliable equipment. So I purchased this in hopes to have a consistent internet experience.

I called Xfinity (highly recommend that over trying to self install) and had them remove their XB6 and install my Netgear modem. That took them about 20 minutes and then they had to transfer me to an overseas agent who then had to reset the Netgear modem, ping and test and then had me run my own speed checks. That entire process took about 30 minutes in total.

    REVIEW

I have been extremely pleased with this modem from NETGEAR. My speeds are consistent across the board at any time of the day. I have not experienced any drops whatsoever (purchased and installed on 28 February 2020). The most I have ever received from GIGABIT here at my home has been 952 Mbps down and 43 Mbps up. Those speeds with my Netgear have been reliable and consistent. I keep it well ventilated and my only complaint would be the lights on the modem are not bright enough for me. I no that's nitpicking but they could have been a bit brighter (again my preference).

As of my review today 28 March 2020 I have nothing to complain about. I purchased this for $249.99 and did also purchase the two year warranty from Best Buy ($25.99) for some piece of mind.

    I also purchased a NETGEAR Nighthawk X6S AC4000 Tri-band WiFi 5 Router.

    Easy Installation

This NETGEAR Nighthawk unit was a perfect replacement for my Xfinity modem. It had the phone line connection and it was an easy setup. I use used the Xfinity on line app, entered the Mac numbers and that was it. Even I, who is not a tech savvy guy was able to get it to work quickly.

One note of advice, if the Xfinity WIFI is your primary source then do what I did add a couple EERO Mesh units on each floor of the house. You will get better WIFI coverage, able to handle up to 24 devices including TV streaming as well.

I would highly recommend this model unless you don’t need the phone connection. The model without PL is $50 less.

    Comcast Modem Replacement

This modem shall pay off the 13 dollar Comcast charged me monthly in 15 months. It is currently the only gigabit and voice modem. Activation was extremely easy. Turn it on, wait for solid green light, plug in a cable, activate, reboot, connected! To connect a router, connect router to LAN1 port, reboot, connected! Speed is as advertise. I coonnected my laptop to router via giga port and achieved 980 using xfinity speed test and neflix fast.com. I highly recommended this modem to replace xfinity xfi unless you pre miden+router combo.

    Best modem/router you can buy

The great thing about this modem is that you dont need to call xfinity. I was able to activate this by myself by following the steps on the manual. It was very easy and took less than 10 minutes. I have the 1Gbps plan with xfinity and with my previous set up I could not achieve speeds beyond 940Mbps. Due to not having a motherboard with link aggregation, 2.5 Gigabit ethernet, or wifi 6. Neither my router had link aggregation to connect to my previous modem which did had this feature. Although I do not have any wifi 6 devices. You will notice a significant increase in speed. I did have to use a DFC channel in order to achieve speeds beyond 1Gbps. I got 1078Mbps on 802.11AC that is insane. I purchased an intel AX200 802.11AX Adapter but unfortunately is not compatible with Z390 motherboard due to them using a CNVI port rather than PCIe E key. The 201AX is not compatible either because its CNVIo2 which is not backwards compatible. I wish I would have performed a better testing. But I would need a feature pack motherboard such as a Z490 to test the speeds of this great modem/router.

    Beast !

I got this because my ISP increased my internet speed to 1200mbps. Comcast tends to give you 200 more mbps. I got this particular modem/router because it’s one of the only ones that have a direct 2.5Gbps LAN port that can go straight to my PC via Ethernet, making use of the full speed provided to me and will do so until the 2.5Gbps cap. I had a modem and router setup before but the router was bottlenecking the speed because of the 1000mbps rated LAN. So for my use case this modem/router helped. I’ve also noticed a difference on my laptop and phone over wifi with 400+ more mbps. This little hardware is a beast!

    Nighthawk AX6000 Router/Modem COMBO

I got this because my ISP increased my internet speed to GB speed. I got this model modem/router combo because of the direct connect to 2.5Gbps LAN port that can go straight into my previous router Which can handle handle GB speeds. I'm making use of the full speed provided to me along with having a separate network at high speeds (Speed test: 13 ms ping/47.36 MBs down/28.07 MBs up, via wi-fi not ether connection using a VPN and going through the second router on 2.4 connection). Since there a so many connected devices in the home, for my setup this modem/router combo handles the information speed transfer great. All of my connected devices are operating faster!!! Steaming service load times are shorter. HBOMAX used to freeze after watching a movie. Now not the case so much. This device may be a bit expensive, however you are getting a router and a modem together in one device. Setup through the APP is very easy and simple (Also follow you ISP guidelines for setup). Overall the Nighthawk AX6000 is a great buy.

Great So Far Some Helpful Hints

I was skeptical to purchase the 8300 based on the reviews, most stating perpetually dropped wifi problems. Purchased, (to upgrade to "GIG") Connected coax cable then power, logged in, called (COX) ISP to set up, chose the same wifi names and passwords for 2.4 and 5ghz, booted PC, my printer immediately connected. Wow this is easy! Not so fast.... other wifi devices were not connected (including smart plugs, thermostat, wifi extenders, Ring etc.) Restarted modem a few times using the ISP interface, tried to connect smart devices and wifi kept dropping and I had a sinking feeling that I made a bad purchase. I took a break (about 2 hours in) then decided to uplug and reconnect the 8300, disconnected the power source from smart devices and reconnected them and BAM! most connected and no more wifi dropping. had to delete and reinstall a few others. I'll update if anything changes, but as of day 2, I am completely satisfied. As far as the time I spent, I wish it were more of a PNP experience, but I used the opportunity to explore and learn a few things about the 8300. I love the new interface btw. Unrelated, I wish I could hide unused (neighbors) wifi SSID's.

Acer Modem Should be your next purchase!

I reduced my Xfinity bill from $215 to $70 by cutting the cord! I should have purchased this modem years ago. I have been renting a modem from Xfinity. The clarity and color of the screen is outstanding. Buy this product, and you’ll save yourself some money!

Plagued by reboots and packet loss in-game.

I've owned this modem for 2+ years, bought in person from a BB store. It was mostly a waste of money for me... To start, all the features and settings on this thing work as intended, speeds are fine while everything IS normal for me, and I hadn't had better wifi coverage in my small condo before. But my issue is this thing doesn't always behave.

Let me start by saying the in-game packet loss issue may or may not be directly tied to this modem. I am still experimenting with a brand new modem and my specific problem-game (BFV) to find out for sure. If they let me edit this review I will check back in a couple of months to edit in whether or not the new modem fixed this issue for me.

The mystery rebooting problem however, seems to be directly an issue with only this modem. I found numerous reviews and forum posts online of users with this model of modem having similar issues. Some people reported low power coming into their units from ISP and hoping it was an ISP issue. Some people reporting new modems (or even old ones!) fixing the issue.

To be clear, my issue was: MY MODEM WAS REBOOTING ITSELF ALMOST NIGHTLY. Probably on average 5 days a week. Mostly in prime time when I was trying to game and stream to others.

Circling back to packet loss. The final straw was when my game became actually unplayable. I contacted my ISP, who said they ran a Docsis Health Check on my account/modem, and it reported back similar to other people online: bad (low?) signal coming into the unit. The representative just told me it came back "in the red", so I had bad incoming signal and that it was likely the modem. I don't know whether I believe them, as they quickly suggested renting theirs... you know how that goes.

Regardless, this was now two separate issues that I was well enough tired of dealing with. The packet loss I had previously figured was the game's fault, as my speed tests always came back fine and other games had ZERO issue DURING the regular issue with the problem-game. The final straw was the last time it happened also tanked my entire internet speed. I dealt with it for two years to "get my money's worth" of saving rental fees, before giving up and buying a new non-Arris product.

Now that I've had my new modem replacement I have been online for 7 days with no mystery reboots. It's almost weird now going from two years of internet cutting out from a modem resetting all by itself, to just how things are supposed to be.

That issue alone makes this modem particularly not worth the money, especially at this price point. I've never once had even a cheap old modem or router or combo unit do this. This was supposed to be a heavy hitter product for me to last years. It only "lasted" two years because of my stubbornness.

(Pic included is my purchase date. For some reason this page is claiming I only bought it a year ago, so there's my actual paper receipt.)

    Great for faster internet speeds

Great for those whose ISP has upgraded their internet speed. To get those speeds however, a Docsis 3.1 Modem/Router is needed. A Docsis 3.0 router will still work but won't allow for today's faster gigabit speeds. The Arris Surfboard Model SBG8300 Cable Modem and Router in one fits the bill. Has four ethernet ports for multiple connections and one coaxial cable input. No telephone line connection for services requiring this. All in all a decent upgrade.

    Good, but with limits...

The Arris Surfboard cable modem combo is a fairly decent router/ modem combo, but it is not for everyone. While Arris did incorporate some good technology into this box, they did manage to leave out some necessary features.

First off the Surfboard is about the size of a Cox contour cable box, only a lot lighter. In fact, the box doesn't weigh that much at all. On the front of the box there are 2 lights, one for the internet and the other for wifi. On the back there are 4 gigabit ethernet ports, as well as the power port. Arris kept it pretty simple in this department. The set up is very easy and straight forward, even for those who aren't very tech savvy. The best way to set this up,(in my option) is hardwired through a laptop or PC/Mac. Once you set up your wifi and password, then I recommend downloading the app. The Arris app is also very good. It pretty much has every feature one would need to monitor and explore their network, not to mention it is very easy to navigate and understand. For example, You can edit you wifi networks names and passwords right from the home screen. There is a network map which lets you see all the devices on your network, as well as edit the names. A speed test, that is probably the most detailed and accurate one I've ever used. There is also a feature called wifi spot meter, this lets you walk around your room to see where the wifi signal is weak. Although, I couldn't get the meter to work on my phone.

As far as the performance goes...If you are hardwired into the Surfboard, then you can expect to get speeds at around 920mbps and up. On the other hand, the wifi is a different story. The biggest problem I have with this unit, is the lack of MU-MIMO. With MU-MIMO, you are able to not only stream in 4K in one room, online game in another, and browse the internet - all at the same time without seeing a dip in speed. Not to mention there is a significant increase in wifi range especially on the 5ghz network. Unfortunately, this combo does not have that feature, and you will definitely notice a difference. For me I noticed the rapid drop in speeds after I connected my 3rd device to the wifi, while trying to use them simultaneously, I notice that the download speeds dropped to a 1/4 of what they were before. I also have noticed the range is not quite as far on this as well, this barely covers a 3rd of my house without loosing signal on the 5ghz. While you can buy a wifi range extender to extend the coverage, at that price point you're better off just buying a separate modem and router with better coverage for the same price.

Overall, the surfboard is a solid unit with limits. Would I recommend it to people...? That depends on the person and their environment. For people that live in a smaller home, only have a handful of devices connected to their network, and plan on hardwiring most of their devices to the internet... Then yes, this is a good choice. But if you're someone that has a bigger home with a lot of wifi devices connected to your network, then I would not recommend using this combo.

    Stop rental fees.

Just what we needed to replace my rented Comcast/Xfinity modem. Works fine. Took a few phone calls to Xfinity to get it activated but it was well worth it. This model supports teleports if you are paying for a home phone line. Please note that this is a modem. We already have our own router. We cannot locate a reset button. Hopefully it continues to work well and there will never be a need to unplug and plug it back in.

    Great solution

great solution if you want to stop renting your modem.

Double check it supports your provider and you might need some tech help over the phone to set it up with your provider.

    Works great

Even though it is not listed in Cox website, I was still able to use it. However- you cannot use the phone ports on this. You have to use a superset modem for your cox phone line. Had I known that I would of got the model that is just the modem and not modem with phone port. Either way it works amazing. Went from 35mbps with Cox modem/router to now 130mbps. I also updated router to netgear nighthawk.

    Voice Modem

This unit required assistance from Comcast in order to get it up and running for our voice modem. Other than that it is now working great.

    Great modem

Great modem as an upgrade for an older Arris model. I was able to use the battery backup from the old one in this model too. Was easy to activate with Comcast-only took about 15min on the phone with them.

    Limited to select service providers

Not as compatible as other modems. Only works with designated providers this was unable to use to fix the issue I needed to fix. Huge Arris fan just can’t speak to the unit any further due to its lack of versatility with integrating with service providers.
