    Amazing Laptop with Proper Expectations

So far this laptop has exceeded my expectations. The 8GB of ram and 256GB of storage aren't mind blowing, but are definitely capable of handling your day to day activities without concern. There is expandable memory via the MicroSD card slot. Also, I have many of my documents saved to cloud storage so that isn't a concern because of the Always Connected LTE feature. The 13.3" 1080p screen is clear and bright. I have been able to use it outside comfortably. It comes with two speakers on the side, tuned by AKG, which are nice and loud. Since they are on the sides, media with stereo separation sounds great which is an added bonus especially when watching movies. There is a Dolby Atmos app which makes the sound profile a little more dynamic and adds some additional volume. On each side of the laptop there is a USB-C port which can be used for charging as well as connecting peripherals. If you have regular USB-A devices like external hard drives, there is am adapter included. Battery life on the Galaxy Book S is incredible. On average, I've been getting through two days of work with a little bit of juice still left in the tank. This is mainly due to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx processor. This is a double edged sword if you don't know what you are getting into. This processor makes great battery life and LTE connectivity possible, but because it is an ARM based processor the Windows experience is not typical. Not all programs are built for this type of processor which can be a problem . All this in a 2 pound package is well worth it for me though. Everything I need for work runs just fine and you can install web apps via Microsoft Edge or Chrome to create an app like experience for things like Netflix, Google Play, and Stadia. There are only three concerns I had. 1) I like having Photoshop, but I don't use it often anymore and I did find an app alternative that suits most of my needs. 2) I occasionally play games which this is definitely not built for. I started using Google Stadia with this computer, which works surprisingly well, but has its own limits. 3) The keyboard takes some getting used to. The key strokes are shallow and the backlighting isn't phenomenal, but after a week of use I'm almost 100% comfortable using it. As long as you know the limitations with an ARM processor this always connected laptop is the perfect blend of portability and productivity. I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest feedback.

    Lightweight and amazing!

I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest feedback.

I own several Samsung products so I had high expectations for this laptop. Upon arrival, I was impressed with how lightweight it is. I also liked that it included everything that I would need to work from anywhere. The main thing I love about the Galaxy Book S is the screen resolution. Its screen produces a crisp and beautiful image. Which makes not only working but streaming movies and videos great! I also love its size, it fits perfectly in my shoulder bag and because of its weight, I can carry it for long periods of time. Another great thing about it is how fast it boots. And it handled everything I did on it nicely. This laptop has a capacity of 256 / 512GB SSD, two USB-C ports, and a headphones jack. The keyboard offers a great experience with its smooth shallow keystroke. Something else that I really liked about it is that its quiet. Thanks to its ARM chip that is energy efficient this laptop doesn't need a cooling fan. So even if my little guy is napping right next to me I can work without waking him up. I also can't forget to mention that the trackpad is very responsive, which makes using it amazing! This is definitely a great laptop that will get you through a full day of work plus fun things like watching movies and videos. This is definitely something that I know I will recommend to anyone looking for a lightweight and powerful laptop. Because it's from Samsung I am not surprised that it not only met my expectations it exceeded them.

    The future is now!

The Samsung Galaxy Book S has a great premium quality, look, and feel. Mine came in mercury gray. The laptop is made from anodized aluminum, which in itself is a great achievement that makes it weigh just 2.18 lbs. The battery life in this laptop is amazing as I easily get around 16 hours from a single charge. It has an LTE connectivity which is useful for where there is no WiFi. This laptop has a great HD display at 1080p. The audio quality is very crisp. The ARM processor packs enough punch. I can do most of my work using the browser. The 720p camera is still great and able to make high quality videos and shots. For me, the only downside to this laptop is the shallow depth of the keyboard. Overall, the laptop is great and gets me through the day.

I got this laptop at a discounted price in exchange for my honest feedback.

    Sleek, Thin, and Sturdy.

Sleek, Thin and Sturdy. The best laptop I ever had. The battery life is pretty good and i can work all day with it. I also love the keyboard, it has a nice feel to it and looks high quality. The camera is very clear for videos and pictures. The performance is fast. I used multiple application at the same time, and don't see any lag in performance. I like the advanced features like the Touchscreen. Surfing internet is fun with this laptop, watching videos with great screen display and audio. And even for office work, it is very reliable. Very advance that i can use it like a tablet with the touchscreen feature. I can also use it as a computer with its keyboard. I would be very proud to bring this anywhere i go. Fancy looking, high end, lightweight and has the perfect size. Samsung did a great job with this Laptop

    Amazing

I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest feedback.

This laptop is amazing! I am so thoroughly impressed by everything about this laptop. It boots so quickly and has been able to handle everything I have thrown at it. The build quality is also just awesome. I went in knowing it wasn't a gaming laptop and that is actually a really great thing because I have one of those but needed something that was actually portable that I wouldn't mind taking with me wherever I go. It is impressively light, so much so I was beyond impressed that there was no flex when using the keyboard without much, if any, support for it. I was able to use MS Office and also use it for extensive web browsing and just getting stuff done. The battery life is another area where it really just shines. I could easily get through a full day doing work and browsing the internet without every worrying about needing to charge it or worrying it would run down. Finally, the speakers on this thing are just fantastic! I was blown away by just how good they sound and watching movies and videos on this was such a delight. Everything was crystal clear from the awesome picture quality to the sound. I honestly find this laptop to be my new go to laptop, even more so than my gaming laptop and even when at the house but most definitely when on the go.

This will replace your tablets and laptops

The first thing you will notice about the Galaxy Book S is its build quality. The screen is backed by what feels like a sturdy aluminum shell. The keyboard has a great tactile feel to it, and the display is clear and sharp. The power button in the top right of the keyboard doubles as a fingerprint reader. When folded up the device is less than 1/2 in thick and the aluminum top makes it durable. It weighs just enough to let you know it is made of quality materials but not enough to weigh you down.

I have been using this thing at work, at home, and everywhere in between. Battery life so far has been great and since it charges via USB-C, you can plug it into your car’s charger on a road trip and have never ending juice! For such a small tablet/laptop it has outstanding sound. A headphone jack and Bluetooth functionality make watching movies or other content on the go super easy. The Windows operating system is snappy and familiar as it works essentially the same as your PC.

My Galaxy Book S has been seeing the most use as the perfect distance education device. All three of the kids have been doing school via different distance learning mediums. The touch screen makes it easy and intuitive for our youngest to use and the device is powerful enough to handle all the apps/software the older kids use. The 720P camera, headphone connection, and Bluetooth make Zoom meetings for school a breeze. The ability to add a Bluetooth mouse when you are deskbound helps with games and other entertainment functions. My two older kids play Roblox on this thing all the time!

I have owned several Samsung tablets over the years, and still own two older ones. I also own two laptops. I find myself and the kids preferring the Galaxy Book S over all the other devices due mostly to its versatility and sheer convenience. You can use it anywhere for almost anything. It has replaced at least three of my other devices.

I will be purchasing a second Galaxy Book S so we don’t have to split time with just this one. If you are considering a tablet or phablet, or smaller laptop. Give this thing a look, it is worth your time.

    Excellent

The Galaxy Book S is sleek, light as feather and incredibly smooth. I was quite impressed with the battery life and it was one of the first things that I tested out. I watched a full movie and the battery barely budged. I then watched two more movies and used about a quarter of my battery. Thats phenomenal. I like that it charges with the same USB C cord that my phones uses and you can add up to 1TB of memory. I currently have a Samsung phone and I can access all my movies, photos and files between the two devices. The Galaxy Book S is so light that its going to be my go to travel device. Perfect for work and school.

Perfect option for on the “Go” usage

Best purchase I’ve made in a while. I was debating on the Surface Go 2 versus Net Books and I’m glad I chose to go with this beauty. Once I took it off S mode it worked just as a laptop. Taking it off the unwanted S mode to many user was extremely easy to do so. Since I’ve had zero issues on downloading apps and been able to use a Military CAC reader for my travels and at home usage.

    Poor quality

Overall you get less than what you pay for. Didn't think it would be this low powered and the cpu is 100% used when you're just scrolling on the laptop. 400 dollar phones are better than this thing.

    Don't waste your money

Would give it 0 stars if possible. 1st one camera stopped working and had to disable to boot up. Only 3 months old and had to accept a refurbished unit as replacement. That one failed immediately (screen was upside down when rotated 90 degrees)... yet another refurbished unit showed up to have the exact same problem (even during the initial setup)... screen upside down when turned 90 degrees.

Windows 10 S will not let you install software

    Buyer beware.

YOU CANNOT INSTALL ANY THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE.

Windows 10 S is not a normal Windows Operating system. I saw "Windows" and just assumed this Surface Go would work like every other Windows computer I have owned. This is not the case. Windows 10 S is NOT normal Windows.

This includes other browsers and EVEN TITLES from Microsoft themselves. Windows Journal from Microsoft.com will not install from their website.

Only an upgrade to Windows PRO is the only answer.

    QUOTE FROM MICROSOFT Website

My Windows 10 S PC won't install some apps. Is that normal?

If you have a Windows 10 PC running Windows 10 S (such as a Surface Laptop), you may notice that it won't install apps from outside the Microsoft Store. Don't worry—that's the way we designed it.

By exclusively running apps from the Microsoft Store, Windows 10 S helps keep your PC running fast and secure and provides peace of mind by removing the risks that come with downloading apps from other places.

    Misleading product photo

Don't buy this if you want a laptop. Also the photo is misleading...there is no keyboard! It's basically an ipad and not the most efficient. Once I got used to it, I thought ok it functions for me just fine...but I expected an actual laptop. Wasn't happy at all.

Trumps iPad Pro 3rd Gen 12.9

I have been an iPad user mainly for travel entertainment and casual browsing. Upon any trips longer than a day or two, I would have to bring my laptop for actual work-- nothing crazy-- excel, mail, and browser work-- yet the iPad couldn't work.

Enter Surface Pro X. I was always wanting to try the Surface line, but every time I tried one out, I would be turned off by sluggish performance and poor battery life. After using this for a week now, I am SOLD. I've been powering away on spreadsheets at Starbucks this morning without having to have both devices with me. Tablet mode works great for browsing and media consumption. Once you get used to Windows 10 coming iOS, its pretty startling how much more capable it is! A couple apps couldn't load due to the ARM processor, but I just use the web based version with the new Edge (which is blazing fast!). Having an always connected computer/tablet with LTE a a full operating system with a sexy design rivaling Apple has me very excited.

Beautiful Display! Great For On The Go!

When I first read about the Surface Pro X on Microsoft's website I didn't fully realize what the differences between ARM processors and i3, i5, and i7 processors. I still went ahead and purchased it and started using it. At first, when I read that you can't just install anything on it I was worried about my decision. "Did I just purchase a souped-up Surface RT?"

However the more I used it the more I was confident with my decision. To start, the display on the Surface Pro X is simply gorgeous. The colors are rich and vibrant and it just looks great I love the very thin bezels on the right and left side of the screen!

If you are looking for a tablet/PC to do high-end video editing or late-night gaming sessions then this is not your choice. With the ARM processor you can only run 32 bit programs in emulation mode. However, for watching media, document processing, or other simpler tasks you will not be disappointed. This device is also LTE compatible which I love. I'm an AT&T subscriber and all I have to do is pay a monthly $10 connection fee and I can share my data plan with it. This device also has a solid build and feels very sturdy in your hands.

What I don't like is that this device is a fingerprint magnet! I am constantly wiping it down and cleaning the back. Some may not be so picky but fingerprints drive me nuts.

The unit also has the ability to increase the SSD space by purchasing a larger drive. A friend of mine took his 128GB Surface Pro X and upgraded it to 512GB. He said this gives him much more piece of mind in not running out of memory. It also saved him money.

Overall, I highly recommend this device to the right person. I am 30 days in on using it and have no regrets buying it.

Don't Get This Paper Weight. Get a Surface Pro 7!

I purchased this tablet, along with the type cover (without the pen storage) yesterday.

First, the tablet is VERY nice, it has good memory, it's responsive.

But here's the problem: It ONLY uses ARM apps. That is, you CANNOT use all your Windows 10 apps on this device because Windows came up with a processor, just for this tablet, that is not compatible with most apps in the market.

Windows, I don't care about extending a couple more hours of battery power with this proprietary processor.

    That's just not good enough.

I couldn't find a compatible version of Sketchpad (a leading app for this hobby). Nor could I find an out-of-the-box version of Lightroom (which I use every day) without going down several rabbit holes. Mail would not set up on this device, despite entering everything correctly.

At the end of the day, I realized that ARM isn't for me.

I don't spend $1,200 on a tablet with a keyboard just to surf the web. I need it for personal finance, light entertainment, photo editing, sketching, and with the expectation that ANY app I use on my Windows 10 desktop computer WILL work on this tablet.

Otherwise, you should just get a budget tablet.

Today, I'm promptly returning the type cover and the tablet to Best Buy and plan to purchase a Surface Pro 7, which is NOT ARM compatible, thank God, and CAN run all my apps, thank God.

Windows, honestly. Your most beautiful, most expensive, updated device doesn't even run all your programs.

    What were you thinking?

By the way, I just uploaded this same review to my 700 Twitter followers and shared it on Facebook to spread the word that the Surface Pro X should be avoided at all costs.

It wasn't a Microsoft-bashing post. It was simply to inform friends that purchasing this product would be a waste of their money, and that they would be greatly disappointed in the product's performance.

Anyway, the upside is I get to save a couple of hundred dollars.

And I anticipate enjoying the Surface Pro 7.

(And if that's true, don't worry, Microsoft, I'll be glad to share the good news about THAT product with those same social followers.)

Good luck everyone, and if you purchased Pro X, hope you can take it back! Best Buy Elite members (like me) get much more time to return.

    Cheers!!!

Surface Pro X is a must have!!!

I absolutely LOVE my surface Pro X!! I was looking for a laptop that is fast and easy to use and the Surface Pro X is both! It gives you the feel of a desktop computer with the mobility of a laptop. I love that you can detach the computer and use it a tablet. Also, I love the feel of the keyboard. It just like a regular keyboard. The first keyboard I bought was defective. (some of the keys didn't work). I brought it to best buy and they were very helpful. I was able to return it and get a new one. Now I have no problems! If you are looking for a computer that allows mobility, speed and ease this is the laptop for you! I would absolutely recommend the Surface Pro!!

The only thing I will warn you about is that there's no headphone jack or USB port. Although, I have has no problem with that since it has Bluetooth. But for some people this may be a problem.

    Great tablet. One major problem.

I'm going to focus on the negatives first, but if you get what you want, I think they all can be overlooked. You just need to know the limitations and see if you're okay with it.

The processor is NOT what you'd normally find in a desktop and laptop. A few months back, I was purchasing these for my workplace and noticed they had a "Microsoft SQ1 processor". I immediately went what the heck and put it back on the shelf.

Microsoft ABSOLUTELY needs to disclose the fact that this processor runs differently. It breaks compatibility with a majority of programs that can run on a normal desktop or laptop. Whether they didn't disclose this on purpose or by accident is unforgivable. I suspect a lot of people buy this because it looks sleek, and expect it to run like a Surface Pro series with a number. Only to find out that it can't really run anything at all other than the built in browser and Office. It has a built in emulator that you can run older Windows programs on, but it doesn't work well and kills the battery life.

I only caught it without researching it initially because I'm too nerdy for my own good.

So why did I get it then for personal use? My curiosity piqued when these were on sale, so I thought I'd give it a try. I love my iPad Pro, but iOS fails horribly when it comes to productivity. It's touch oriented, which has its pros and cons. It's pretty much a device you use in bed or on the sofa, just looking at the web.

This tablet is in a completely different class. I would put it somewhere between a tablet and a laptop. Better than a Chromebook, less than an actual laptop.

Being a different processor, again it breaks compatibility with a lot of traditional Windows programs. Even programs that have been converted to run on this sometimes don't run well. Firefox, for example, stutters a lot. It also eats gobs and gobs of memory. The new Microsoft Edge however runs as you'd expect a browser to run.

Now that that's out of the way, time for the good...

This tablet does everything I want it to. I can use it as a tablet, but Microsoft needs to refine it a little bit. It's sleek and the battery life is really good. It's very portable. It has a built in LTE modem. So that means I can take this with me and not bring my separate hotspot, which is one more thing to keep track of. And I don't want to use my phone as a hotspot, which kills battery life.

This has a qualcomm modem, which is the best on market. I've been getting very good speeds.

You can actually sign up for a few services on the tablet itself, like you can with a cellular iPad. It did not work completely well for me, due to the carrier. I signed up for the plan on their website, and it automatically activated on the tablet. That was very sleek.

The drive is also upgradable. There's no reason to spend a ton more money just to get more drive space. It's located where the SIM card slot is located- in the back.

I don't have the type cover and stylus. Maybe at some point I will get it. But I can use my iPad Pro if I need to draw something. I hate the feeling of the keys on the surface cover, and it feels weird to feel the keys if you have it folded back. I do have wireless keyboards at home, so I can use them.

It does everything I want it to, and knowing its weaknesses I don't think it's fair to knock down any stars. This laptop will be very good for quite some time. When Adobe converts Photoshop onto this, I expect it to become very useful.

1 star gets knocked because they don't disclose that it has limitations on what it can run. I don't really know where it stands on the value spectrum. If you don't care about cellular but want productivity, you're better off getting a 2 in 1 laptop. A cellular iPad Pro that has double the space is $50 more. If you want a tablet but don't care about cellular access, then the iPad Pro is significantly cheaper. The value depends on what you want and what you need. I feel like it's slightly on the not so good value side.

I recommend this to anyone who needs a good productivity computer and it's a GREAT iPad Pro alternative. Just understand that you can't expect this to behave like what you will normally find in Windows computers. Stick to Microsoft's software for now because they perform better.

Depends on your needs, I wanted to love this thing

Look, this is an incredible machine, concept, and potentially the future of 2 in 1 devices, but it isn't ready for primetime and certainly not at a premium. I really enjoyed using the X for a short while, but nothing in my mind could convince me that keeping it would be a wise choice. The device was fast, screen is quite beautiful, the exterior design sharp and thin and definitely pretty to look at.

The problem with the Surface X Pro is its lack of a 64 bit emulator for windows 10 apps. A lot of apps worked fine using 32bit emulation, and they were fast enough that I didn't notice a huge difference performance wise compared to my windows machines. However, try using this machine for something other than web browsing, streaming, or simple word processing and the flaws become glaringly obvious.

I'll give you a simple example, my kid wanted to play Minecraft with me and I decided to go ahead and pay 30 bucks to play the game on this device, at some point in time (at launch) it worked. Now, you are greeted with a message from Mojang stating that the device is no longer supported and is being phased out. It essentially stated that sometime in October, all online play would cease to exist, but you could still play it single player. Keep in mind, I wasn't about to wait and find out if Microsoft would make the device compatible, if this was a simple oversight at Mojang, or what have you.

That simple problem raised my eyebrows, and as I perused the app store and installed apps, I found out this was going to be a bigger problem than is being advertised. Microsoft is too massive a corporation to be releasing products prematurely like this and letting consumers eat the losses, yet here we are. I decided to return the device and I traded it for a less pretty Surface Pro 7.

Voila, compatibility problems are no longer my problem, and the machine runs most everything ai throw at it. I did not try Photoshop or other cpu intensive apps, but I'm sure with the i7 and 16gb ram, it will handle itself just fine compared to the surface x pro I returned.

I'm not going to lie, this experience was a bit heartbreaking, because I really wanted to love the X and tried to give myself every excuse in the book to keep it. Maybe when the next Surface X version is released they will have solved the emulation issue, but until that happens.. I wouldn't bother. These devices are too expensive for you to serve as a beta tester for Microsoft. Just don't waste your time, hold off until the next Surface devices are released.

TLDR, you're paying a huge premium for a giant phone that can run windows 10 via 32bit emulation. If that sounds appealing to you, then by all means.. Have at it. Just remember, we are talking windows store, not Apple App Store or Android Play Store. You've been warned.

    Small but mighty

Love this the Surface Go 2, fits perfectly into my backpack/purse, it has been used for on the go work like Quickbooks and emails at work and at my daughters long softball practices. I feel like I can be productive anywhere I go now. I use my Iphone for hot spot when on the Go, however this device has a SIM card for data.

LOVE LOVE IT. Only negative is that it doesn't have a usb port but you can buy accessories for it.

Combined with the cloud, it’s a great tool for a general contractor!

    Great ARM System

    Pros:

    - Sleek, thin, and premium build quality

    - Easily replaceable SSD, which is great because that tends to be one of the first components to fail on just about any system nowadays

    - Relatively high iFixIt repairability score

    - Battery life is solid. I've seen around 10 hours of battery with regular to heavy use. I've heard with power saving features you may be able to get up to 15 hours, but I haven't tried it yet

    - Built-in LTE connectivity

    - ARM processors are the future, and it's awesome seeing Microsoft produce a flagship device to help nudge us into the future

    Cons:

    - I had trouble upgrading the system to Win10 Pro after I purchased it in the Microsoft store at first. Whenever I tried to activate Win10 Pro using the license associated with the device, the Xbox app would open instead and never upgrade. I called Microsoft and they were able to help me pretty quickly by providing a license key that I could use to bypass the machine validation, but it was still weird. In hindsight I probably would've purchased an upgrade through BestBuy, cause I've heard that BestBuy provides an actual license key that you can use from the start.

    Other:

-This system has an ARM processor, and as such may have compatibility issues when running programs that are compiled for x86. There is an interpreter to allow you to run these programs, but its not as smooth and snappy as natively compiled ARM programs. In less technical terms, not all apps will work perfectly on this device right now. Some apps may have serious issues and just not work, other apps may have minor visual issues and/or run slow, and others won't have any issue at all. Things will get better as more and more software developers start building things for ARM, but it's important to know what you are getting yourself into when you buy this system. I love my Surface Pro X and the fact that it's ARM. I can test my software and security tools on an ARM processor without having to break out a raspberry pi, and it's super fast, produces little heat, and has great battery life. I also have a desktop though with a traditional x86 processor in case I need it, though. So I would definitely do a little research before you buy, especially if this is going to be your only system, otherwise you may find that it can't do what you need it to do and you'll have to return it and start the arduous process of buying a computer again.

The Best 2in1 Device around Period. Ive used an Ipad pro, a Galaxy Tab S7, a surface pro 7, traditional laptops. None of them can provide everything this Device does. Its literally about the thickness of a USB-C port and weighs almost nothing, yet it can run full windows. (Not 64-bit x86 apps just yet, unless you are on a early release software version) but I have not encountered an app that I needed to run that I couldn't. This device is plenty powerful. I am able to run older games like Mirror's edge and Mass effect at full resolution and high detail no problem. Just Make sure to use Microsoft edge as your browser since its Native ARM64.

Great slim elegant 2-in-1 device from Microsoft

Microsoft Pro X design is great elegant looking slim 2-in-1 laptop/tablet with SQ1 processor pro- engineered for Microsoft by QUALCOMM. It has curved edges/slim bezels on sides compared to the previous model of surface and its thin and weigh slightly less than the previous generation.

What is in the box: Tablet (Pro X), documentation and sim eject tool, extension cord and the power adapter(65watts).

Measurement & Weight: It measures 11.3 X 8.2 X 0.28 inches and weighs 774 grams (heavier than 12.9 iPad pro which is 631 grams) but lesser than 1 gram compared to Surface 7.

Color: It just comes in only one color, matte black anodized aluminum. One drawback with that black aluminum even though looks great is it’s a major fingerprint magnet and has to be cleaned often. I would suggest installing skins(dbrand) to protect your investment from scratches and fingerprints.

Display: The display on this one is 13-inch PixelSense touchscreen with 2880 x 1920 resolution and 3:2 aspect ratio compared to previous generation. The display uses ambient sensing to keep colors consistent across the display when watching videos on Netflix or YouTube or Amazon Prime.

Operating System: Comes with windows 10 Home installed and has face recognition like password-free windows Hello Sign in. Great try by Microsoft but it’s not as smooth as IOS face recognition but it’s acceptable.

Performance: When it comes to performance, this unit should not be compared with regular gaming laptop. This tablet uses Microsoft SQ1 CPU and Adreno 685 GPU graphics card with ARM chip 32 bit. It also has the WIFI 5 and not the latest WIFI 6. Due to the ARM processor it’s not very robust for adobe photoshop editing or heavy gaming and it’s great for regular day activities like emails, browsing, sketching, streaming Netflix, YouTube and for office documents. You can also download the latest Microsoft Edge Canary build for ARM which optimizes most apps and help run smooth most of apps.

LTE Connect: Surface X is the first tablet from Microsoft to implement LTE advanced Pro connectivity that uses Qualcomm snapdragon X24 LTE modem. There is a SIM card slot at the back behind the kick stand where you can insert any carrier's sim to browse on the GO. Compared to iPad Pro this one is great and perfect for productivity on go if you are a business user who needs to use Microsoft office products like Word, Excel, PowerPoint for business needs.

Charger/ports: On the left side of the unit it has 2 USB-C ports (not thunderbolt port but they do support data charge and display out) and a volume rocker. On the right side it has special Microsoft magnetic surface connect proprietary charger and power button. You can also charge your device using one of the USB C ports. I do have a Dell XPS that charges on USB C and works great for charging this device. The charger in the box is high power 65w charger that can charge the tablet from zero to 100% in 1.5 hours. Also, it does not have a 3.5mm audio port for headphones nor USB A ports like previous generation.

Battery Life: Microsoft advertises the battery life as 13 hours but with good brightness (300 nits), mine lasted for 8 hours 20 minutes. Again, this depends on the usage and applications.

Kick Stand: Built in kick stand that can be adjusted from 0 to 165 degrees for watching movies and for working is very handy and useful. If you lift the kickstand you will find a hole when opened with sim ejection tool, it has the user replaceable SSD and the LTE slot for nano Sim card.

Signature Keyboard & Slim Pen: I also purchased the signature keyboard and slim pen as a package for my productivity. If you don’t need the slim pen then you can just purchase the keyboard for $139. Keyboard is alcantara finish black color that snaps magnetically and has a slot for storing the pen and charging. Slim pen is rechargeable and will automatically position itself if inserted in the wrong direction (upside down) for storing and charging. When the pen is charging it has a small LED that lights up. Slim pen is very handy and when lifted from the charger displays two options on the screen whiteboard and Fullscreen snip.

Pen when clicked at the rear button opens the whiteboard and you have options to select different tips and colors for drawings. It also has a cool ruler where you can select and draw straight lines. You can also select eraser from the tool or you can use the end of the pen to erase like regular eraser on the screen. Very cool and clever design. There are different options to change the settings of the rear button of the pen. You can select what happens when the pen button is pressed once, pressed twice, fonts for handwriting and so on.

Also, when you slide the keyboard in an angle it hides the pen and to me it’s a great design and will function like a laptop. It comes with backlight for keys on keyboards which is very handy when working in dark areas and nights. Not sure if older keyboard of previous generation is compatible but it may not.

Camera: Has front facing 5 megapixel1080p 30FPS camera for selfies or skype /video calls and 10-megapixel rear facing camera with 1080p HD and 4k video.

Speaker & Mic: Great sounding speakers with dual 2- watt front facing Dolby Audio with dual far-field studio mics.

Bottomline: This will be a daily driver for business professionals who need always on connected LTE, large 13-inch bright display, slim down bezel, premium aluminum design, great sounding speakers, magnetic keyboard /pen & upgradable SSD. But it runs on Microsoft new ARM processor that lacks performance on 64bit apps, and works great on 32-bit apps that is optimized for windows as mentioned above. So, if you get this device for heavy video editing or gaming then you will be disappointment because it’s not meant for that audience. Also, pricing on this one is little higher when you add the keyboard and pen as bundle. It costs $1569 + tax for 8GB memory & 256GB SSD model. Overall, it’s a great 2 – in – 1 device that will eventually be a competitor for iPad pro in next few generations.

Always in reach - you can take it anywhere

I've been using the Microsoft Surface Pro X for about a week and half now, and love almost everything about it. Overall, I give it a 4.5/5.

    Brief Summary:

Great product. Overall, great design. Good battery life. Minor app compatibility issues but not a deal breaker.

Absolutely buy the Surface Pro X Signature Keyboard if you’re purchasing the Surface Pro X. They were quite literally made for each other and it shows in a very good way.

I love Windows Hello sign-in. The facial recognition is fast and seamless.

    IN DEPTH REVIEW

    Overall Design:

    - Stand: 5/5

They absolutely knocked it out of the park with this stand. It is extremely sturdy and opens so the Surface can rest nearly flat, but slightly elevated which I find particularly useful when drawing with the Surface Pen. It stays exactly where you put it at any angle. It took me a few days to get used to opening it without turning the whole Surface around as its sturdiness means it isn’t an “easy” open. I’m much happier with this design over a design that would open easier and lock to different angles. The flexibility of opening the stand to any desired angle is awesome.

    - Ports: 4.5/5

I love the switch to USB-C on all electronics. It’s the way of the near future. I would love to see a USB-C port on both sides of the Surface instead of having 2 on one side, and their proprietary charging/data port on the other.

The proprietary charging port used with the included power adapter is the only thing “ugly” about the Surface. When it’s not connected to the charger, there’s a large hole in the side of the Surface that looks like it’s meant for an oversized SD card. I liked the magnetic connect/disconnect of the charging cable, but it felt awkard trying to position the cable, particularly when I was using it as a tablet and holding it while sitting on a couch. I would prefer the charging port either have a metal cover that slides into place when not in use, or just get rid of it and have USB-C be the only method of charging.

    - Battery:

The battery life is great for what I used it for. Product description claims 13 hours, and I can definitely see hitting that without issue if not running any power-intensive applications. Given this is a secondary computer for me, I found myself carrying it around and using it for short periods at a time without charging in between. The one time I let the battery get low, it charged to ~60% in <30 minutes via a USB-C charger I had from another computer.

I love that I can charge this via USB-C, in addition to the charging port/cable it came with. I have USB-C charging cables lying around in multiple parts of my house since it’s becoming more standard, and being able to easily plug the Surface in anywhere was very convenient.

    - Cellular/ LTE: 5/5

The surface has a built-in LTE capability but I opted for a more traditional SIM card through Verizon. Side by side with my phone, I found the Surface actually saw better LTE speeds than my phone was getting, despite being from the same carrier and plan.

    - Expandable storage: 0/5

There isn’t expandable storage as there is on the Surface Pro 7

    App Compatibility: 4/5

Since the Surface Pro X doesn’t use an Intel processor, I’ve had mixed results with apps that I’ve tried to download and play. I was able to run League of Legends, Everquest 2, and Stardew Valley without issue after downloading a compatibility driver, but a couple smaller apps from Steam popped up with an incompatibility error. I couldn’t find any way to tell from an app/game system requirements page whether or not it should be compatible. Given my experience, it’s likely most “mainstream” games and apps designed for a wide variety of systems will likely run, but it seems the only way to know for sure is to install them and see if they run. I’m hoping this changes as the Microsoft SQ1 processor and ARM based processors become more popular.

    ACCESSORIES

I used this Surface Pro X with the Keyboard case, pen, and Surface mouse.

    - Keyboard Case: 5/5

Don’t buy the Surface Pro X without this case or you’ll be missing out on half of this product. You can tell the computer and keyboard case were engineering together. The case snaps so effortlessly into place via magnets and just works. The case draws power from the Surface so it’s always ready when you are. The surface (no pun intended) of the keyboard case has a texture that just feels good, and holding the Surface Pro X in this case feels as comfortable as carrying around a paper notebook. Even when I wasn’t planning to use the Surface, I found myself carrying it around “just in case” I had something I needed to use it for.

The case has an insert for the Surface Pen, which automatically orientates the pen correctly when placed on the insert and wirelessly charges it. It also smartly tucks away the pen area while the keyboard is in use.

I have 2 small gripes with the keyboard case:

    1. Using the Surface as a tablet with the keyboard case flipped around the back felt awkward the keys pressing against where it was resting. I’ve seen other designs where a keyboard case had a flip over cover that might be an improvement over this, but it’s a small thing compared to how much I love this case.

    2. Due to the pen insert hiding away while they keyboard is in use, the keyboard near the screen is raised slightly and at certain viewing angles obstructs a tiny portion of the taskbar. It’s not enough to prevent you from seeing things in the taskbar and clicking on them, but at certain angles is just enough to be annoying. This is most noticeable when using the Surface in your lap rather than at a table where you likely will have a different viewing angle.

    - Surface Pen: 4.9/5

If you’re going to get the case, you may as well get the pen. If you are interested in drawing or jotting down freehand notes, get the pen. The pen itself is very well designed. The flat shape of it, the weight of it, and the length of it all feel like the perfect combination. I don’t know if they could improve on the physical design of it.

The back of the pen has a button you can press or double press, and the Surface lets you create shortcuts for what those presses do. By default, it launches the drawing app with either press. A neat surprise was figuring out while drawing you could flip the pen over and it will naturally act as an eraser. Extremely clever design and not something I would have ever thought to include.

The responsiveness of the pen takes a little getting used to. The Surface starts tracking the pen with a visual circle cursor like indicator when you get close to the screen, though it doesn’t respond until you physically touch the screen. At first it made me feel like there was a bit of a lag, but I think it’s a perception issue that you get used to after some continued use.

    - Surface Arc Mouse: 4/5

The Surface Arc mouse is a “neat” product. It folds flat for storage, and automatically turns off while flat as well. It boasts tracking on nearly any surface, but I had mixed results using it on the arm of a couch. Tracking on a “normal” surface has been fine.

For the price though, it should be rechargeable via USB-C or Qi wireless charging. Everything about the Keyboard and Pen feel effortless, like they were engineered together with the Surface Pro with great attention to detail. Opening the Surface Arc mouse to insert batteries felt archaic by comparison. Hopefully the next generation will incorporate a rechargeable battery.

The Beautiful Tablet That Wanted To Be More

The Surface Pro X is a beautiful tablet. Honestly, it's probably the best looking tablet I've ever had the pleasure to play with and I've handled a lot of tablets. It's thin, has a wonderful black finish and a beautiful bright and clear screen. This alone makes it a worthy tablet, but the fact that it runs a full blown version of Windows 10 makes it even better, right?

Here's where it gets interesting. The Surface Pro X runs an ARM processor underneath it's sleek looks. Now don't get me wrong, the new SQ1 processor that MIcrosoft developed with Qualcomm is a beastly mobile processor, but it's not natively compatible with X86 software and this becomes an issue at times when using this otherwise capable tablet.

Windows 10 can still be pretty awkward to use with just your finger, even in Tablet Mode. You can definitely tell the difference between an OS specifically designed for a tablet, like iOS on the iPad vs an OS that's trying to cater to both keyboard/mouse users and touch users.

If you're using this tablet for email, web browsing and some light office work you won't have an issue as all those apps are going to run, even if they need to be emulated in order to do so. But some apps, most notably Photoshop or full versions of certain applications like Dropbox just aren't going to play nice being with this laptop, either refusing to install or not running reliably. Even applications that do run, but aren't compiled specifically for the ARM architecture are going to negatively impact the battery life of your SPX (Surface Pro X) and that's never a good thing.

This wouldn't be a big deal if the Microsoft Store did a better job at telling you which apps were compatible with the SPX, but it doesn't. It also doesn't have a huge library of applications like you'd find on the Apple Apps Store either.

These things combined bring down the usability of this tablet by quite a bit, but all's not lost as when you combine the SPX with it's companion Keyboard/Pen combo it transforms into a pretty capable workhorse.

You'll be able to fire off emails, surf the web and then relax and watch a movie just fine with the SPX, just don't expect to run many games on it as it's just not designed for that. The graphics capability stops at games like Angry Birds 2 from the Microsoft Store. Don't expect to play any new FPS games with this guy, you'll just end up frustrating yourself.

So long story short. The Surface Pro X is a beautiful tablet. It's about the same size/weight as an iPad Pro of similar size, but runs Windows 10 that works with almost all native Windows applications, but not all of them. It can't play games and it's a little awkward to use without a keyboard, pen or trackpad. This means you'll be spending some more money on the Surface X Keyboard/Pen combo.

The Surface Pro X is a quiet and sleek tablet that really wants to be a laptop, because that's the way it works best. You'll be using it as a laptop more often than not so why not just get a laptop instead?

That's the question you might want to consider before investing in the Surface Pro X.

    Perfect for Productivity

This is the first Microsoft Surface product that I've owned and I'm in love. As a professional student, this device helps me be efficient and productive every day.

What initially drew me to this device was the new SQ1 processor developed by Microsoft and Qualcomm. The goal they set out for was a laptop experience with smartphone benefits. I think they succeeded. I can browse the web, watch videos, jam to music, respond to emails, jot down notes, and type up Word documents with laptop-like performance. The Instant On functionality gets me back to work quickly and the efficiency of the processor keeps me working for as long as I need without being strapped to a power outlet. I've only had to charge this device two times in the last week with light to moderate use.

What else do I love about this device? Pretty much everything. At 1.7 pounds, this thing is ultra portable and goes with me everywhere. The hardware is gorgeous with a 13" display and the thinnest bezel I've seen on a surface device. The kickstand is highly adjustable between upright for a laptop-like experience or nearly flat if you're more interested in playing with the device as a tablet for things like drawing. The twin Dolby speakers provide quite a bit of power for clear stereo sound when you want to jam to your favorite tunes. There are two USB-C ports on this device for plugging in hubs for flash drives, SD cards, etc. You can also remove the rear cover on this device with the included SIM tool and swap out the hard drive or put a SIM in the device for LTE connectivity. That's a really nice feature for business professionals.

One thing I want to mention is that I got this device with the Signature Keyboard and Slim Pen and would highly recommend picking those up. If you want to use the Surface Pro X as anything but a tablet - and I think you should - the keyboard and pen are necessities.

As with most electronic devices, individual needs and personal preferences ultimately dictate what device you should get for yourself. The Surface Pro X is built for portability and productivity and that's exactly what I use it for. This is why I love it so much. If you're going to use it for those things specifically, I think you'll be pleased with your purchase. If you're going to want a device that can be used for creative content creation or gaming, I would maybe look elsewhere.

    Thoughts from an old man...

The Microsoft Surface Pro X is…well, okay. It’s got some good points; it’s got some not-so-good points. Is it the game-changing, life-altering Surface tablet that we’ve all been waiting for? Meh, probably not. But please understand — it’s not terrible, seriously. If you are truly in need of a portable device like this, and you’re a fan of the MS platform, then this may be just fine for you. Would I run out and replace a Pro 7 that’s running fine? Probably not — unless the following “pros” are reason enough for you to fork out the extra bucks.

    Pros —

I love the sleek styling without sacrificing that feeling of quality. There’s a solid heft to it without being bulky. You can get this engineered aluminum beauty in any color…as long as it’s black (thank you Henry Ford), which I think looks great.

The display is beautiful and vibrant and almost bezel-less. Smaller profile than earlier Surfaces, but with a bigger screen? Go figure.

    USB-C ports. Two of them.

The Dolby Studios sound production is rather stellar considering the overall thinness of the Pro X. It’s obviously not going to match a good standalone system, but it holds it’s own, and it is customizable to your taste in sound.

The cameras are darn good for a tablet — 5MP user-facing and 10 MP rear-facing cameras provide a decent foundation for minor editing. Once again, you can do better with an actual camera (or even many phones). Taken pics can go directly to the whiteboard where creativity is spawned. Become that artist you’ve been hiding all your life!

The Pro X is LTE ready. It’s up to you to access this feature through your cell provider, but it’s there whether or not you want it. Who knows what the future holds!

Battery life seems pretty close to the 12-hour MS claim. Definitely better than most laptops.

    Cons —

Battery life (didn’t I just mention that as a pro?) seemed to dwindle quite a bit when my wife decided that she wanted to navigate with Chrome. Maybe this is more of a compatibility issue?…but I did want to mention it.

Ok, I’m an old man. I miss not having the headphone jack. I say that, and yet I just finished listening to Tool’s Fear Inoculum over the seamless bluetooth connection with my trusty 65t’s, so what am I complaining about?! Anyway, now you know that there’s no headphone jack…

Don’t think that the Pro X will also fill your gaming needs. It won’t. It’s a mobile device as far as that goes. That being said, it does just fine with mobile games.

The Windows 10 platform. Yep, I just don’t care for it, but that’s just me. I grew up in the world of Google and Mac. This is not a big deal — I just simply prefer the others. I’m constantly thinking, “Oh yeah, they want me to do this to do that…” Like I said, no biggie. Just a matter of preference. Note: I’m not getting rid of it. I’ll just continue on with Chrome and accept the lower battery life, which is still pretty good.

So, is it worth the price? It's not cheap, so the jury’s still out. A lot of other variables enter in the answering of that question. It is a cool looking machine and we’re going to enjoy it and the keyboard/pen we got with it when we travel and as a second unit when the desktop is occupied. Honestly, I still have a lot to learn about the world of the Surface and what I can supposedly do on it that I can’t do on other tablets or laptops.

    Sleek & Stylish Tablet PC

This is a beautiful tablet/PC. It is super thin, and has a bigger screen with way thinner bezels than past

Surfaces. It is not built for heavy gaming at all. It does however play the little arcade type game apps

from the Microsoft store just fine. I would say this specific Surface is aimed more towards students,

businesspeople, or even graphic designers. It’s great for web browsing, using Microsoft Word, Excel,

Powerpoint, Photoshop, Whiteboard with the stylus, checking email, streaming, ect.. The screen has

good touch responsiveness, even with the cheap tempered glass protector I applied to it, and the resolution is outstanding. I do feel like the speakers can sound a bit

muffled once above 50% volume so that was a downside. However, I plugged in my USB C AKG earbuds

which are fully compatible so that made the issue obsolete for me. This is the first device I have used

Microsoft Hello with. It works so incredibly fast to just scan my face and log me in within a second.

Watching videos on Youtube, Streaming on Netflix, and Hulu work great with no issues with buffering.

All together it feels super high quality and it is just so sleek and stylish looking. It runs great for basic

computer uses, just not for gaming. I highly recommend purchasing the keyboard/stylus to go along with your surface so you get that true laptop type feel.

    VERY IMPRESSED!

Once I received this Surface Pro X and opened the box, IMMEDIATELY I was impressed. The look is sleek and classy. And this thing is LIGHT, extremely light.

Pros: I love the 13” touch screen. The texture of the screen is unlike any that I have ever used. I am an Apple fanatic, and my oldest son is in Medical School and several of his classmates have the prior version of the Surface Pro, and he told me this was a great product. He was right.

And when Microsoft says its “edge-To-edge they are not exaggerating. The screen is not too small or not too big, it just seems RIGHT. The colors on this Pro X are second to none. Crisp. Bright. Amazing. There (to this point) is no “lag” when you touch the screen, it seems as if its “waiting” on you. Very responsive.

Out of the box the set-up was simple and quick. It recognized our home WI-FI and log in was a breeze. And this thing is fast. I love the speed of the processor and how much you can do with this laptop. I received this over a week ago, so I’m still “finding my way around”. But the apps, the response, the programs, I AM VERY IMPRESSED.

As I previously said, the weight is unreal, this thing is so light that you can forget you have it in your hand or sitting on your lap. I like the way you can transition from tablet to computer seamlessly. The matte black finish is pleasing to the eyes.

The camera is very clear, and the pictures it takes are very good. I love the face recognition on this computer. I love everything about this computer. It has/is taking me some time to adjust back to a Windows product after using the Apple platform for so long, but I’m adjusting a little more day by day.

If you want/need a good, dependable (to this point) laptop/tablet don’t hesitate to buy this. You too will be IMPRESSED!

    Cons:

So far, I haven’t found any!

My New Travel & Day to Day Windows Box

I have been using this about a week now and so far, it has exceeded my expectations. I was a bit skeptical at first based on a few of the reviews. To be clear, I am not a gamer, so I was fine in giving the SG1 a chance. I have not been disappointed.

I was looking for a smaller profile Windows-based machine. I love my 15in HP Spectre360 but it’s a couple years old now and I was looking for a 13in form factor. I also own a 2018 ipad but still wanted the windows 10 OS but the smaller in a 2in1 was appealing. I also got the Signature keyboard and Pen. If you really want to appreciate the how great this device is, you really need that keyboard.

I primarily use Windows machines for surfing, streaming and productivity. Heavy on the MS Office suite so that is key. I have attached keyboards to tablets for years, from Samsung’s to iPad. I must say that this Surface Pro with the premium keyboard and the tilt is amazing. When I set it on any table or surface and begin to work with the keyboard and touch pad, it is as smooth as any of the nicer laptops I have ever had.

It is instant on, SSD is snappy for retrieving all my docs and pics. I moved over 100GB of files and pics to this baby. I am easily able to have Word, Excel and Powerpoint as well as Edge & Firefox open at the same time and still only consuming 80% of the 7.5GB available memory.

I have achieved around 8-9.5 hours of battery life with normal usage. I am not a fan of the charger, but the nice thing is the 2 included USB-C’s work fine with my universal USB-C charger that I use for my mac and HP laptop as well as my Samsung phone so it’s super convenient to travel with.

Display resolution is fantastic at 2880 x 1920, onboard Dolby sound was much better than I expected. It does not have a headphone jack but no worries, I was able to connect up 2 different Bluetooth headsets with ease. Cameras are great, front facing webcam is a 1080p 5mp camera but the rear facing camera is a 1080p/ 4K 10mp camera.

Overall, I am moving to replace my current windows laptop with this one. It’s light, it’s easy, it has great storage and fast response with the 256 SSD and 8GB Ram. Very easy to travel with and I am probably going to add the LTE chip from my current Verizon carrier to make it always on accessible.

The keyboard design with the pen tucked in so you just pull out the keyboard…..wow! Amazing that it just snaps back in when you don’t need it. The keyboard and trackpad are comfortable and very usable. The keyboard is lightly slanted and using it is easy on the wrist. It does not feel like some add on tablet keyboards feel, this one is much more natural to me. The design specs here are far and above the general competition!

I would recommend this but must say that that you have to have the Premium Keyboard/Pen combo to close the deal. It’s outstanding without it, but amazing with it !

This Surface had quality and performance issues.

I chose this Surface because it had LTE and I was hoping since it was new it would be a fast model. The first purchase had to be refunded as AFTER I configured it completely, I noticed there was a crack in the top right corner of the screen.

The replacement also had issues and in mid-configuration, after rebooting, it would lock up at the MS Windows logo screen. Couldn't do anything about it. No matter how I reset it, it wouldn't proceed past this screen.

Third one came and I gave it to my user to use. They are complaining of poor performance. E-mail is taking 30 seconds to send. Apps are opening up slow. My user is NOT happy. So I may be returning this one as well.

It was nice that it had LTE, but I think there are issues with the ARM compatibility with software.

I'm going to probably be getting an Intel based system if my user doesn't want it after this week.

    Microsoft rocks

Love the portability. Enjoy the ease of operation and face recognition. Great colors and again the wonderful windows 10. The fact you can carry it around laptop or iPad very nice. Still learning how it all works I will figure it out.

    Thanks Microsoft

    Some limitations

Too many limitations. The Surface Pro X comes with an ARM-based processor and an integrated LTE modem, which is why it is an interesting device for those who appreciate portability. However, in everyday use, the combination of an ARM SoC and Windows 10 results in a lot of limitations, and the battery life is also quite poor.

    Surface X - Just Okay

This is a nice system if all you need to do is use the Internet and check email. However, because of the ARM processors, you will not be able to install any 64-bit software. Kind of makes this about as useful as any chromebook but more expensive. Loved the sleek design, full real estate for screen, and concept of replaceable hard drive but until all the software can run on ARM technology, you may be disappointed with this purchase.

My favorite device for MS Whiteboard

I love using this device for Microsoft Whiteboard and Microsoft Edge. I wish there were other apps (e.g., Zoom, Chrome, and Adobe Creative Cloud) that were compiled natively for the processor (SQ2). Microsoft claims that more apps are being ported to this processor every week. I would have given it 5 stars if the Surface Dock 2 had been able to properly power my external touch monitor, which would have allowed me to fully retire my old HP all-in-one computer. Setting up the 4g LTE was very easy for a first-timer like me.

Surface Pro is what I needed!

Went to Best Buy to purchase the Surface Pro and received excellent service from purchasing to getting the surface pro hooked up with my Verizon plan. All the employees that helped me were knowledgeable and answered questions. The employees set up the surface pro for me and showed me some things I would not have found out on my own.

The surface pro with the wi-fi and 4G has worked and with practice and use, I should be able to manipulate it like my old computer!

I could go on and on. This is one sweet tablet. I’m more than pleased. I would buy this tablet again. I would tell a friend to buy this tablet. It’s very easy to setup out of the box. It works seamlessly with the keypad. I really appreciate the 4G LTE.
