Solid Dolby Atmos Sound Bar that is Simple To Use

The SN8YG is a 3.1.2 sound bar that supports both Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, and also uses Meridian Audio to help fine-tune LG’s sound bars with advanced signal processing. The SPK8-S speaker kit expands the SN8YG to a true 5.1.2 system. Setting up the additional speakers was seamless and instant. No issues here.

It sports the same exact design and dimensions from last year, which is a sleek, brushed dark gray metal aluminum finish that perfectly matches LG's 2019-2020 OLED TVs. The SN8YG measures 41.7” long, 2.2” tall and 4.7” deep. The metal grill finely wraps around the sides in smoothly rounded edges, while discreet, touch buttons line horizontally on the top. The remote is also quite simple to use with large buttons.

eARC support is new for the SN8YG, and allows it to receive lossless content straight from a Dolby Atmos supported TV, as well as any other connected devices to that TV. I’m happy to say it works perfectly.

The SN8YG is also Google Voice and Chromecast compatible. I'm not a Google user myself but the 'LG Wi-Fi Speaker' app for iOS or Android is where the SN8YG can be remotely controlled and where firmware updates are downloaded. This requires a Wi-Fi connection, although the app seems quite lackluster and poor in quality, considering it's 1.5 star review for iOS.

Sound quality is amazing and detailed with a very convincing sound field. In Blade Runner 2049, the rooftop rain scene where K and Joi are having a moment, occasional drops of water falling on metal from above the frame are produced only in the up firing drivers and gives a sense of added height into the scene. As for the low end, the subwoofer is impressive and punchy. ‘The Outpost’ precisely jolts you with every single round being fired from atop the Hum-Vee mounted machine guns. Mortor rounds and RPG explosions sound rich and powerful yet the low end doesn’t mask or muddy the mix.

I’ve always had problems with the center channel in past LG sound bars, but it's definitely much improved here, although the problem is still slightly apparent in older content, while newer movies and TV shows are very clear. The most balanced sound field comes from Dolby Atmos content. Castlevania on Netflix is audio nirvana. The dialogue is crisp and untampered with, while bone crunches, whip snaps, magic summons, and crumbling rock are discreetly sent to the proper channels.

The SN8YG is a solid Dolby Atmos sound bar that is very simple to use. I highly recommend it for home theater sound. I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest review.

    Great Sound, small package.

I purchased this unit because of space restrictions. I spent months researching which brand and model was best, as I'm quite an audiophile coming from a 9.1.2 THX Onkyo home theater.

I wanted a top tier model but could not fit it in my new apartment. I decided to give this a try since it had respectable reviews and fit within my size restrictions. When I first turned it on and tested with Dolby Atmos content I was blown away that this sound could come from such a small sound bar. Atmos works excellently and it's very hard to pinpoint where the sound is coming from. Fills the room no problem and has deep, rumbling bass. I paired this with the rear surround speakers and while it's no THX system, it's more than satisfying for the price and size. I had no issues with setup, and it works flawlessly with my LG TV.

    Spot on

This soundbar is spot on !! The sound is super clear and clean. Could be louder but loud enough. The height speakers (atmos) really do make a difference in the sounds coming from above and the left and right surrounds also do a good job of broadening the sound stage!

    Nice general purpose sound bar

The sound is good. Crisp, nice bass, does not distort at high volumes. There isn't much in the area of surround sound, so if you're a gamer, looking for Atmos effects, forget it. For normal people however, this is a very nice overall unit, for both movies and music. Price is high, so get it if it's on sale.

    Worth the money

I was amazed by the sound of this bar. I had an old 6.1 Bose and replaced it with the LG. I was amazed by how powerful the sound that was coming from the sound bar. I bought an LG CX with and had Dolby Atmos and Vision content playing and it was amazing.

    Would recommend!

The sound bar is an awesome addition to our TV. Love listening to music as well. The only con I have is the Bluetooth disconnects everytime we turn the TV off. It's easy to reconnect but an inconvenience when you just want to sit and relax right away.

Would recommend this to a friend.

Fantastic for all the summer home-releases coming!

So I upgraded from the LG SK8Y 2.1 and virtually everything about the new 5.1.2 bar is much improved. The size, the sound quality, and particularly the AI Sound Setup are all key differences that are pretty much impossible not to notice. The SK8Y was a great little sound bar for our apartment because we couldn’t really flex with it anyway, but as soon as we moved into our new house, it straight up was simply not enough.

Our living room is a bit small and awkward which meant that a wired 5.1 system just wasn’t practical. After spending a couple days looking around at different specs and reviews for soundbars, this became the clear choice and I don’t regret a single cent of this purchase.

One thing to note though: we’re a pretty hardcore LG household all the way around so we definitely had added benefits of ThinQ working in tandem with everything and the sound bar working hand in hand with the LG NanoCell television so I can’t speak to how much of a difference it would make if you didn’t have the whole ThinQ household.

Note: the first image is with the old SK8Y on top of it for scale.

    Beautiful and sounds Great

Purchased a new LG TV and it is awesome, but it sounded like a TV! I added this to the package, direct controlled through the TV, and this system brought the TV into the theater zone! I am simply ecstatic with my new LG And LG sound system! Perfect for me! The design is absolutely beautiful and looks perfect under my 65 inch TV. I love how the speakers fire up and out. Setup was a breeze. Just follow the directions and download a couple applications. The only thing thats a little tricky is if you go to switch between optical, wifi or a bluetooth device, things can be a little confusing depending on your tv audio settings. The sound is great and has AI calibration to adjust the sound perfectly to your room. The Dolby Atmos/LG Soundbar app you have to install seems very outdated and deftly needs a refresher... But that’s not too big of a deal. Just use the remote Setting it up to the Google assisted was very very easy and walked me through every step of the way. I never had a Google assisted but I am now learning all about it and using it constantly for weather and random tidbits of information. I would recommend using an optical wire or HDMI ARc because sometimes the audio can get out of sync and it is tough to adjust the delay through the application on your phone or TV

    Big Bar Big Sound

What better to go with my new LG tv than a new LG soundbar. The LG SN10YG soundbar I recently picked up is pretty amazing. Firstly, the color scheme of the soundbar and woofer go hand in hand with my LG Nano Series 9 65 inch 4K set. It sits nicely right in front of the TV.

When the soundbar first arrived, I opened it immediately and was looking forward to using it. The setup was so easy that I was plugged in and using it within 10 minutes of opening the box. The soundbar and woofer connected seamlessly right as I turned it on. Connecting the soundbar itself to my home wifi was also a breeze and took less than a couple of minutes.

The SN10YG has this AI Room Calibration feature that can be found in the LG Wifi Speaker app. This adjusts the speaker output to better fit your room. After running this, I was able to hear a noticeable difference in the sound. The sound is really great and I just know it will make a huge difference to our movie nights. So far we’ve used it to watch various types of media via streaming services, HTPC, etc and all have been fantastic. With the inherently different audio qualities from sources such as YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+, the SN10YG soundbar does a great job of adjusting itself as we adjust the volume on the TV. It has its own separate remote but we haven’t found the need to use beyond testing it’s upper and lower limits when we first set it up.

On the technical side, the SN10YG has many ports available to use. It has an optical, eARC HDMI out, 2 HDMI in, and an USB-A port around back that gives you plenty of options for setting up your ultimate home theater. Bluetooth on this soundbar is a great feature, as is integration with Google Assistant. It is also a rather large soundbar but the quality it delivers is worth every inch. The remote is small and has large buttons on it, making it easy to use though the aesthetics of it could be improved.

    Impressive Excellence

The LG SN10YG soundbar is impressive and excellent. Impressive in the way it blends visually into the mantel below my 65 inch 4K televison and excellent in the way that it delivers a dynamic clean response. I love the theater experience of a dark room and high quality content, and this soundbar has made me appreciate what I was missing. Hearing the embedded ambiance of stadiums and spaces, not overdone or in your face, but just right.

Restraint is definitely harder than maximizing all of the effects, and LG has done a beautiful job with the tuning, likely with credit to Meridian. I am often up late into the night and very early mornings, so being able to clearly hear the sound at lower volume levels has been a huge win as well. The subwoofer blends in seamlessly, and the voices for the morning news are clear and crisp.

To really get a sense of the acoustic performance of the LG SN10YG soundbar, I played a few tracks I know well. "Michigan" by the Milk Carton Kids, "Summertime (acoustic recordings) " by Miles Davis, "End of the Line" by the Traveling Wilburys, and the entire "Live from Mars Unplugged" from Ben Harper. Each of these tracks are like old friends for me, I know the wrinkles on their face and the small details that I look for and enjoy in each one of them. I could not suppress the smile on my face from this listening experience. Eyes closed, I could sense the position of the musicians on the stage for the live recordings and the crisp detail in each instruments on all of them. As you would expect, the lossless recording of End of the Line was incredible and the guitars absolutely sang out. It has been impressive enough for me to find a new home for my previous reference listening device from the family room.

All is not perfect, but the observed issues are minor and most of them should be fixable with software updates. The ability to pair a Bluetooth headset directly to the soundbar was strangely difficult and frustrating, worked around by pairing to the TV and working as expected. The stickers on the equipment in the box cheapen an otherwise beautiful finish. The remote is also a divergence from the sophisticated design and finish, with a large button design I find childish. While the sound quality quickly makes this concern fade, I am reminded each time I pick it up. In summary, absolutely a must-buy if you have a 65 inch or above and care about sound. This is a massive soundbar, but worth every penny and every inch.

For the sake of full transparency, I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest review. No one has influenced my review nor asked me to change it in any way.

    Great Sound for any household!

This is great replacement for my 3.1 soundbar I have had for years. The unboxing experience is great, and everything is laid out in its own compartments within the box. Seeing the LG SN10YG for the first time had me thinking why is this soundbar so huge. It comes with a wall mounting templet and kit that accompanies the soundbar. The soundbar has 3 HDMI ports, USB and an optical audio connection. Two of the HDMI ports are 2.0 spec that support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos passthrough. While the HDMI E-ARC/ARC connection is 2.1 spec. The soundbar app set up was fast and easy. Download the Google Home app and follow instructions on how to activate Google assistant. I recommend downloading the LG Wi-Fi-speaker app it has helpful tools like the sound settings all at the palm of your hands. I choose to go with the AI Room Calibration setting because it automatically adjusts the sound coming out of the speaker to fill my living room. First movie I watched with the soundbar was Trolls World Tour since it has Dolby Atmos sound. I am beyond impressed at the sound quality this large soundbar produces. It is loud and you can hear the distinct sounds individually. I decided to get the rear speakers to complete the LG 7.1.2 experience. My kids decided to play their Xbox on it and while watching them I noticed that the sound while playing video games is incredibly unique. You can hear the foots steps from behind and the sound of objects passing from above you. This is my first LG soundbar. I am impressed and glad at the quality LG is offering. I would recommend the LG SN10YG to my friends and family once they hear how great it is for themselves. I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest opinion!

    Good when it works

We bought this last year for my husband's basement man cave. Everything worked great until it didn't. He went to watch TV the other day and the sub woofer won't even connect to the sound bar. The led light doesn't even come on anymore so the sub woofer is basically dead.

Had to contact LG customer support which is a joke and a pain all by itself. Anyways, after multiple transfers we finally got to talk to "Theresa" who is having us send it to them for them to troubleshoot, fix and send it back to us. We shall see how this goes.

All in all it's a good system just wish it wasn't like most everything you buy nowadays that's just junk after using it a short time.

    Lg is where it’s at

Needed a new soundbar. Had a JBL 3.1 before but the connection on Bluetooth in my room was very poor and needed a newer one with a better receiver. Got this LG, and have never been happier, doesn’t have that JBL Boom to it but it still rumbles the house! Never lost a connection or have any connection issues, absolutely love this soundbar!

An awesome addition to my Entertainment Room!

I was looking to replace my LG SK9Y with a newer model that would provide a significant upgrade in sound for my entertainment room. Enter the LG SN10YG. Out of the box I could really tell that the build quality was a step up from my previous sound bar. It was heavier and much larger than I expected. The squared edges gave it a more modern look that isn’t intrusive . Setting up the hardware was a breeze, since I was replacing a similar sound bar and was able to use all of the same cables. Along with the eARC HDMI port, the SN10YG also has 2 HDMI ports that provide greater flexibility when setting up your AV equipment. Using Google Home to set-up the Wifi was very intuitive and also allowed me to setup Google Assistant. I also downloaded the LG Wifi Speaker app that provides all of the controls for the sound bar. This app also allowed me to setup a pair of LG SPK8 rear speakers that that allowed gave me 7.1.2 ch surround sound. The SN10YG has 5 distinct sound effects. I typically use the Standard setting for TV and and the Movie setting for everything else. This model also has AI Room Calibration feature that is found within the LG Wifi Speaker app. Using this feature adjusts the speaker output to better fit your living space. After running this a few times, I was able to hear a difference in the sound. The sound coming from the SN10YG is outstanding. The clarity is great and the surround sound effect is immersive. I strongly recommend this product. Bring your friends over and have them experience a movie playing a Dolby Atmos soundtrack, they will be blown away.

Perfect for the LG C1 55” Only for LG ecosystem.

First and foremost, I don’t understand why this product got the rating it did. Honestly, this is a phenomenal sound bar and this product isn’t even LG 2021 flagship and yet they NAILED IT. This soundbar is the perfect pairing to the 2021 LG OLED lineup especially the 55” LG C1. My setup is currently in a small/medium sized room, which to my ears is a perfect match.

A little back story: My previous soundbar was the Samsung HW-N850 which was tuned by Harmon Kardon. Now I had that soundbar since 2018 and the bass and subwoofer shook my whole room and gave me that immersive ness chill. However, when I bought my LG C1 55”. There was a huge input lag/ jutter/ clipping issue it was nauseating. And what’s worse was watch 4K ultra DVDs there was no communication with the soundbar and TV it was horrendous. So I decided to upgrade- though the Samsung bar was spectacular which was my standard.

The product: LGSP9YA is the steak to the LG C1’s red wine…… the sound is this juicy/crisp/ delicious to the ears and the TV is an astonishing ruby red marvel to the eyes to behold thus a perfect pairing.

    Features: Dolby Atmos/ DTS-X/Meridian Audio Technology/ Airplay 2/ Bluetooth 5.0/ HDMI 2.1 in and HDMI 2.1 out w/ e-ARC support/ total 520Watts of power/ 5.1.2 system/ Hi-Res Audio compatibility/ Spotify connect/ Alexa & Hey Google Support

Audio Quality: (Broken down in parts Music/ Movie/ Dialogue) First and Foremost: it’s a MUST to do the AI room calibration in the LG soundbar app to properly analyze your room to maximize the sound signature.

    1) Music: streamed via Airplay 2 using Apple Music and Bluetooth.

-Airplay 2 using Apple Music streams a lossless CD Quality of 16bit/ 44.1k at the moment. Pending update for Hi Res support of 24bit/ 48k is in the works via Apple. This is where I was EXTREMELY IMPRESSED with the sound quality of the soundbar. Using Airplay 2 connected via Wifi- you’re able to stream at a higher

Quality, compared to a lossy Bluetooth stream. I tested vocals/ instrumentals the sounstage was open and to my ears it sounded sweetly crisp. Female vocals like Whitney Houston/ Celine Dion and male vocals like Andrea bocelli/ Luther Vandross was elegant/ powerful and graceful and never got sibilant to me.

Guitar riffs from Santana/ Slash/ Price/ Jimi Hendrix sounded lively and upbeat it was like being in a concert. Now the feature that aided in this is the AI Sound Pro that tweaks the soundbar perfect to what you’re listening too. I wasn’t expecting less because Meridian is partnered with LG.

Meridian Audio is HiFi company that’s partnered with car companies Jaguar/ Land Rover and Kia.

The audio company can spar with Bowers & Wilkins, Burmester/ Mark Levingston/ Krell/ McIntosh/ Focal/Revel just to name a few.

    - Bluetooth 5.0: It can pair to 2 devices which is quick and easy but it’ll be a lossy signal a codec will be AAC no APT-X or APT-XHD sorry android users. It sounds good but not better than streaming Wifi.

    - Odd Factor: USB drive with FLAC or Hi-Res Files that can play 24bit/192 which this bar apparently can handle which I haven’t Tested. But judging from a mere 16bit/44.1k CD Quality wifi stream can do I can only image how it’ll sound at its fullest potential.

Movies: Ok I’m no sound engineer so In better terms

I would redirect to you RTINGS & Digital Trends review

Of the product they explain the

Mechanics of Dolby Atmos/ DTS-X and the surround features it does and overall sound signature. But for my ears with the AI room calibration is was immersive for 520W, watching shows on Disney+, Netflix that supports Dolby Atmos was spectacular to the ears. Playing 4K ultra DVDs in Dolby Atmos was INCREDIBLE and I HAD NO SYNC ISSUES or input lag….

Dialogue: the center channel is perfect. Bar features clear sound pro that focuses in on spoken word and in the LG soundbar app it was a night mode where it placed more emphasis on dialogue.

Now, it’s a MUST to purchase a high speed HDMI 2.1 cable I recommend Audioquest Carbon 48. YES CABLES MATTER. don’t cheap out.

Features: This soundbar is truly loaded with some much and it’s guaranteed future proofing for about 8-10 years. The dimensions is the product of perfect for the 55 inch LG C1 OLED while having a TV STAND not wall mounted.

Overall, I would re-purchase this again and whole heartedly recommend it.

FYI, I was considering the Sonos Arc/ Sub combo before this since it has gotten high praise. BUT THE MAJOR factor is the seamless integration it has with the LG C1. Since it’s part of the LG ecosystem it just fitted so right with the TV. And you can maximize its fullest potentials well.

HOWEVER, everyone’s needs/ ears and priorities are different. I know there are other sound bars that can blow this out of the water. But the LG SP9YA deserves it praise! There’s so much potential that you just need to give it chance!

    Amazing Sound from the SP9YA

The LG SP9YA 5.1.2 soundbar looks modern and sounds fantastic, I have an LG TV and they function well together, I can control both with one remote. I think if you have an HDMI arc TV it will work well too. The 520 watts sound superb, I turned only the soundbar and it sounds amazing even at max volume and the sound does not get distorted, once the subwoofer is turned on, then the sound is complete. I can hear different sounds from all over the room; this is how good the speaker is. The soundbar has different sound modes and each have a different setting for best sound, speaking of sound, the soundbar can be calibrated to make the room sound even better. I usually just have the AI Sound Pro so it knows how to adapt for the scene. The one thing I like the most is the connectivity, can use my assistant and play music from Spotify without the TV being on or my phone. I will get the rear speakers at a later date but for now it sounds great.

    This thing is sick.

Paired with a 65 inch LG OLED. I use the AI sound and it is epic for games movies and sports. I always use Blade Runner as a test flick. Blows me and my neighbors away. Night mode is cool to avoid eviction. Max settings, you can blow anyone out of the space. ARC works great. I got an open box with a small ding in front for 700. I’d pay the full g. It’s that good. The thing is enormous so not sure about wall mount.

    Loving our new sound bar

Bought this to replace an aging 7.1 surround receiver and speakers. Although this is not a true surround system, the way it is designed it does an excellent job simulating surround. Sound quality is excellent. Installed with an LG TV and install and setup was quick and easy. Just a side note the sound bar is rather long so check your available space before purchasing.

    Good Soundbar!

The LG SP9YA has an impressive build quality, really slim and wide made of plastic, feels solid and durable with a metal grille around the sides to protect the speakers. The sub on the other hand is also made of plastic, but it’s covered with fabric which could easily get dirty or damaged. I will advise to think on your sub placement if you have kids or pets.

The LG SP9YA offers a neutral, balanced and clean sound, it’s suitable for listening to lots of different audio contents. Despite being a 5.1.2 system, it doesn't offer a very immersive surround experience without the help of the SPK8-S surround speakers, which you can buy separately and would upgrade the system to a 7.1.2.

Note: The surround speakers is not what you might think as completely wireless! (Speaker and power cord cable) this set is wireless from the soundbar but it uses cables to connect each speaker to a transmitter/power amplifier.

My experience with the system after integrating the surround speaker has been really good, so I will be keeping the system thanks to its looks, balanced performance and out all current 2021 sound bars from other brands LG offers more options like audio formats, file formats, and connectivity. Is it perfect? No, So I’ll provide examples of my personal use and how it performed so you have a better idea.

    1. The LG sound bar phone app is really convenient, helpful, and easy to use when configuring settings for the bar. Once installed I ran the AI room correction, and the difference in sound to what I previously had set was really not much of a difference or maybe nothing at all.

    2. EQ Presets - A Good advice! Do not rely only on one EQ preset like the AI Sound Pro or Standard.

    TV

I found the AI Sound Pro and Standard EQ to be good for watching news, and documental.

    Music

When watching music videos or just listening to music of youtube or simply streaming from your phone make sure to set you EQ to music, you will find that the bar performs better and also your sub will also sound a bit deep and stronger. For those heavy bass lovers, this subwoofer it’s not for you. I played with the sub settings and while it did some changes it did not perform as strong as I have experienced with other systems at the same volume, in order to achieve a strong performance from the sub I had to raise the volume on the bar to almost its limits to get that heavy punch I wanted. I guess that’s how LG/Meridian has tuned the sub just to be balanced.

    Cinema

If you are not playing any movies in Atmos content, then select the Cinema EQ, all sound is enhanced, and surprising I found the subwoofer also to perform really well. Due to my living room configuration being open to the kitchen I have the subwoofer right next to the sofa facing the corner of the wall in order to achieve and dispense the sound better with the sub and bass levels set to +3

    Game/Sports

Every sound feels present and clean when you select the correct EQ for each content.

    3. Connectivity

Here’s where I have not been able to find any solution, I have an Xbox series X connected to the bar which supports 4k pass-through, when I test 4k performance the Xbox displays everything is supported with its green checkmarks (HDR10, Dolby Vision) yet I have tried numerous 4k movies and I can only see displaying in HDR10 format, I have looked on my tv settings and everything is set to allow Dolby Vision but I never get the option to select it.

    4. Compatibility with AI Services

I have not tried any so far.

    Scuffs Dust & Fingerprints

Aware the reviews should reference the performance. I arrived to purchase a new SP9YA, rear channel speakers and HDMI cable. When I began to unpack it I was very displeased. The soundbar was unwrapped full of dust particles, a smudge of fingerprints and the cord was just laying there freely. The subwoofer was unwrapped as well, the cloth covering was dusty and soiled other sides had some scuffs, sticker was disturbed and the bottom of the sub had an identify ink mark. The soundbar as well had an identify white mark on it. The manuel was uncovered and very visibly used. View pictures attached. I try to take extra precautions in cleaniness and contamination and this is what I encounter. My wife just flew in for a couple of days and this ruined our movie night. Best Buy - $1100 tomorrow

Sounds Great, Requires Trial and Error, Measure

Great sound. Pricey. Have it on the BASS setting, maxed settings, and it has me wanting more. Large sound bar may need to me measured before placement if doing so on tabletop. Lucky enough for me, my viewing angle allowed for proper clearance. Consufing, and mean CONFUSING, system to operate. As large as the bar is, you'd expect something more. BUY on a sale.

Very good overall sound but so-so surround

LG SP9YA is great for mixed usage. It's very neutral, balanced sound profile suitable for listening to lots of different types of audio. You can customize almost everything, including bass and treble adjustments to go along with other EQ presets and settings. It supports every audio format over HDMI ARC and HDMI ports, including Atmos and DTS-X. It has a great soundstage and five distinct channels where you can hear clear channel separation on the soundbar. Since there are five channels you need to worry about it down-mixing 5.1 content to stereo. However, it's not very immersive. I'm aware it would help to add the rear surround speakers but the soundbar alone does not produce a believable surround experience.

Easy install and here all the surrounding sounds without the rear speakers. Do not have all the wires like the 5.1 channels. This will take it place.

Seems like Pre-release software. Not all features

No firmware update available. Some features are not working such as volume control using cec, power control via cec, etc. System is too new and I would recommend waiting until the new firmware is posted and all the problems fixed. Sound seems okay, but for a 3.1.2 system it really send to be lacking compared to the Vizio m51-h6 I recently had. That system has been recalled it seems like. I will give this system a week to start working correctly or it will likely be returned. For $800 I expected seamless and effortless connection to my LG CX TV

Making the leap from receiver to soundbar

After 13 years with my beloved Pioneer Kuro 5010 plasma TV, I finally moved into the 4K world with the recent purchase of an LG GX 77" TV (which I've been very happy with so far). Because my old receiver would not support 4K or any of the new sound standards, I decided to upgrade my receiver as well. After purchasing a fairly high-end unit (NAD), I was still finding small issues with things not working the way they should. I then came to a realization that I wanted to drastically simplify my setup. I don't want my home audio to be my second hobby. After doing quite a bit of research, I decided to give soundbars a shot.

I landed on this soundbar due to it's favorable reviews (being the same brand as my TV actually had very little to do with it) and strangely enough, width (the stand it sits on is a touch under 48", limiting my choices). I also added the optional rear speakers which BB thankfully discounted when purchased together. This was another limiting factor to my decision as I wanted to make use of my existing ceiling speaker wire. Most of the more expensive units need the rear speakers plugged in and I just don't have a good space to put speakers behind our couch to do that. This is usually because those rear speakers also have up-firing Atmos speakers.

Setup was simple and I had zero issues with the wireless subwoofer & wireless receiver for the rear speakers pairing to the bar. With my existing floor speakers and large center speaker still in place, I powered on the soundbar and started playing music. I was truly and quite literally shocked at the sound quality! For a second, I actually thought I still had my old speakers on and had accidentally played to them instead. I had no idea something so small could deliver such a great and powerful sound. The sub is also very impressive (echoing the reviews I read). The soundbar itself also looks very sleek and modern.

I wanted something that I could airplay my music to without turning on the TV and it works great (something that the $$ receiver couldn't do). Movies also sound as good or better than the receiver I had purchased. I've also accomplished my goal of a simple and sleek setup. No more receiver, floor speakers, giant center channel speaker, blu-ray player, and Harmony universal remote. Now we exclusively use the remote that comes with the new Apple 4K TV (where we watch a majority of our content). We keep the TV remote around in the rare cases we want to watch live sports with the HD antenna.

To summarize, I am 100% satisfied with this soundbar (and the optional rear speakers which I recommend you pick up). I believe the next model up simply adds 2 side speakers to the bar which adds to the length (too long for our stand) and an extra $200. Otherwise, they are identical. You'll have to decide if those two extra speakers are worth $100 each.

As far as negatives, I originally couldn't figure out how to rename the device in my AirPlay list as the steps listed in the online manual do longer seem applicable (this is probably due to changes on Apple's side). I resolved this my installing the Apple HomeKit app on my phone. After adding the bar, I was able to rename it through that app. Speaking of apps, the updated app for this soundbar is also great. Very simple interface and a vast improvement over the previous version. I've played with the various sound modes and I think they really do improve your experience depending on what you are listening to (although the default Sound AI mode also works great if you'd rather not change settings all the time). I hope that LG eventually releases an iOS widget for the app so that I can quickly switch b/w the various sound modes. For now, I've just created a Shortcut to the app as a widget instead.

For those in a similar mindset of wanting to simplify your home theater setup, I highly recommend giving this soundbar a try. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a room full of old AV equipment I need to sell :-)

    great sound.. works very well.

-- I haven't had a sound bar before and I paired this with the LG C1 via HDMI ARC. Everything connected extremely easily, I was wondering how the subwoofer was going to connect and upon reading instructions it had already done it on it's own. (simple Bluetooth... and it works well).

-- It is surprisingly loud (and clear, to my ears..)..haha... I haven't gone above 28... and generally need to keep it under 20 especially when noise levels reduce outside (I live on a busy road but it quiets down at night..).

-- I've been pleased that it 'just works'... and the only thing that's a bit confusing is how to turn the display off completely. I googled it and it seems like there must be a way, but I'm a big fan of not seeing anything on the display unless I adjust it, and... this displays something all the time.. (very, very minor and it's not super super bright, so ...this is really knit-picking(?) : )

-- I read reviews about the "5.1.2" big brother/sister SP9YA but this came with a very good deal as a bundle and ..I'm happy with this. It's tempting to go for 5.1.2, but... going up from TV-only sound to a rockin' soundbar, I'm very happy with this.

-- I *will* be getting the wireless speakers (from LG) and they look like a pretty good deal overall.

...I'd recommend this. Especially as a bundle deal with a TV.

...I rated quality excellent because it does what it's supposed to... it's pretty much all plastic but... it is what it is.

    Distracting Status Display. Decent Soundbar

I probably wouldn't have purchased this soundbar had I known the Status Display cannot be turned off. This is really distracting when I am enjoying a movie in a dark room. The soundbar is connected to a C1 OLED TV and is constantly displaying "E-ARC". Even my much cheaper Vizio soundbar automatically turns its indicator off after a few seconds. LG please release a future firmware to completely turn off Status Display!

Sound quality is quite decent for the price. Dialog can be easily heard and overall sound is clear. I don't like to mess with sound modes as they tend to sound artificial and lose some details in some way. I just leave the sound mode in the default "Standard". We also cannot change sound mode when Dolby Atmos is active. Bass is strong (and boomy) so I have to dial the sub down by -3 to -6 depending on what I am listening.

Bluetooth pairing is very simple in my case. Within seconds my phone is paired with the soundbar and I can start streaming music to it. Music quality is quite good and I hear a lot of details.

Wifi setup is also very easy. I downloaded LG Soundbar App and it has no problem discovering the soundbar. The app can completely replace the remote if you prefer controlling everything via the app. The app can also handle "AI Room Calibration" which I haven't tried.

Overall this is a decent soundbar at this price point.

A perfect budget sound bar for LG C1 OLED and PS5.

I was comparing the SP8YA and SP9YA to see if it's worth it to pay the extra $200 for the SP9YA. But according to Rtings, SP9YA gives poor surround sound performance but has around same ratings as the SP8YA so it's not worth it in my opinion. For that price point, you should consider the Samsung HW-Q850A instead.

I planned to buy this and pair it with 2 LG Rear Channel Speakers.

This is an Open Box - Satisfactory condition item btw. Upon receiving the item, the outside box was heavily damaged. The sound bar and the sub-woofer were thoroughly wrapped with cushions. They show no scratch or cosmetic damages at all. Included a remote and 2 power cables. No manuals or optical cable (not needed anyways). Setup was easy. The remote layout is simple. Bass performance is amazing, at least sounds way better than the Sony HT-S350 that I previously had. You can check the review on rtings.com for more info.

It's highly recommended to install LG Sound Bar app on your smartphone so that you can adjust the settings.

I don't know why but somehow I cannot change the sound mode on the remote. I must use the LG C1 remote to go to sound settings on TV in order to change the mode.

Other than that, everything has been amazing. Overall, the quality is good. I saved a bunch of money thanks to the open box.

Best bang for the buck (on sale)!

For the money it blows the competition away. I was fortunate to pick this up open box and it’s the greatest sound bar for a decent sized room. Takes a while to perfect (for ideal calibration) since the AI does a pretty good job but that’s with any sound system. Highly recommend if you want to have clear deep tones and highs as well as an abundance of options for preferences! Tons of sound modes that truly make it amazing. Would be a 5 star rating if the blasted ARC/HDMI front LED lights would turn off (see photo) unfortunately there’s way to do so, it would be perfect if it was possible.

    Great Sound WithClear Speech

Relatively simple to set up. Make sure you read the pages that detail what each item on the remote controls. Most buttons have multiple choice sub-settings. Also be aware that the sound bar requires two (2) HMDI cables. For the best results make sure one of the cables is high speed rated and connected to the HDMI/ARC port on your TV.

The subwoofer was easy to set up…just push the button on the back of it and it will automatically connect via Bluetooth to the sound bar…just check the button on the back of the subwoofer is glowing solid green.

The best part of the sound bar/subwoofer is the clarity of speech settings. Too many TV shows have dialogue buried behind a too-loud music bed, making understanding speech difficult. I am in my mid 70’s and I found the sound bar to provide clear speech at a much lower volume settings, proving that it works as specified.

Finally, a great sales price makes the purchase a no-brainer, even though it is more expensive than most sound bars.

    GX SOUNDBAR

I received my LG GX 3.1 ch soundbar and it arrived and in a big and flawless packaging. The box itself shows that it is a top notch product. The soundbar and subwoofer came nicely packaged and protected. As I opened it up I got to see how sleek the design is. The pictures do not do it justice. This is a one of kind product. Mounting was one of the easiest setups with very easy to follow instructions. It fits flush against the wall like a picture frame. It really is a thing of beauty. LG really hit tit out the park with this one. Connecting the soundbar was as easy as 1,2,3. I used the hdmi arc port and the soundbar just automatically connected. After that I plugged the subwoofer in and in a matter of seconds it connected wirelessly to the soundbar. No need to press any buttons. Its literally plug and play. Ready to go in seconds. I switched to bluetooth connectivity and It was also up and running without any issues. I decided to play a movie with great sound effects to test the limits of the GX soundbar. I chose Transformers. The sound was so immersive it felt like I was in the movie. You are able to hear every distinct sound coming from the movie. The subwoofer really puts this soundbar over the top. It sounds so clear with great bass. The combination of this soundbar and subwoofer really fills the room like a movie theater. Next I tested the soundbar by playing the new avengers video game on ps4. You literally feel every move the character is doing on screen coming from the soundbar and subwoofer. From a wall breaking or hulk doing his signature smash. You can hear every distinct sound on anything you play. While playing Spotify it literally sounds like you are having a concert in your house. In conclusion this is by far the best soundbar on the market. From a flawless sleek design to crisp and clear sound. I was blown away by the sound the GX can push from such a minimalistic design. I would highly recommend this product to anyone. Pair this up with the GX oled tv and you will have the best dynamic duo on the market. If you want the best sound and picture quality on the market this is the way go. I Really do not have any complaints, I am beyond happy with this product.

I received this product at a discounted price in exchan

Looks very nice, but average sound quality

First things first since this is not well-documented anywhere: this GX OLED model-matching soundbar matches the width dimension of the 65 inch GX OLED only. This was perfect for me since I have that TV on the wall as well, and aestehtically it does match the GX beautifully on the wall (see pictures). That is the main selling point of this soundbar, and should be the only reason you're considering purchasing it. If you don't have a LG GX OLED, don't purchase this, there's better soundbars out there! As for the negatives, the sound quality is not the greatest in the world. Specifically, ALL low frequency sounds are offloaded to the subwoofer, which means no natural bass or low frequency sound comes directly from the soundbar speakers. Part of this is just raw physics given how slim the soundbar is in order to sit flush against the wall, which makes it impossible to engineer speakers that produce satisfactory low frequencies. The downside of this, is that if you turn the volume of the subwoofer down to avoid disrupting rumble, you're also turning down low frequency in things like speech/voice as well, since the sound output is so intrinsically linked as a single engineered system. Another negative is how difficult LG makes it to find the correct smartphone app to control this unit (the one you want is LG Music Flow Bluetooth); however, once you do, the app has all the settings you'd need, including independent volume controll of the subwoofer and optional rear LG speakers (which I purchased and paired with these, and they work great). Finally, LG does not do a great job documenting which of the Sound Effects work best for certain situations. Through trial and error, I've found the "Movie" setting provides the most consistent sound quality for my 5.1 setup with the optional rear speakers (I don't particularly like how the AI effect consistently makes the rear channel quieter than it should be with non-Atmos content). Overall, these speakers look fantastic when paired with a GX OLED, but are very mediocre in every other way, which makes it hard to justify the very high price tag for average consumers.

Good looks, OK sound, Expensive price tag

I bought the LG G1 OLED TV so I purchased this soundbar to pair with it. It matches the look perfectly as it is much flatter than other sound bars. The power cord has a big brick that make it hard to mount and hide the cords (I just had to stick mine behind the drywall. Sound is just OK. On many of the presets, deep and/or loud voices start to vibrate or muffle when the volume is up around 20 or so. Very expensive for the sound quality if you can't get it on sale. Easy to use though, and it really does look great with the G1 wall-mounted above it. Recommendation is for looks, not for sound quality.

    Perfect match but poor sound

It's okay and works fine and complements a 65in LG TV perfectly. However it's just not that powerful and the subwoofer is almost useless. Definitely not worth the expensive price. My cheaper Soundbar sounds better on my other TV. I even purchased the surround speakers extra which makes the system passable. Matching Aesthetics is the only reason to buy this soundbar.

Great sound and easy to install

This soundbar has lived up to the hype and even exceeded my expectations. I have a home theater system in my TV room but I wanted just a soundbar for my living room to watch movies, sports, and play video games. This is a 5 star system that sounds great and was super easy to install. Here are the pros:

    - Easy to install. It took me longer to get this thing out the box then it did to get it hooked up. You run one wire to the TV and then plug it in and you will immediately get sound. The rear speakers and subwoofer are wireless so you can place them where you prefer to create your sound bubble.

    - Great sound and loud. I bought this as an upgrade from a 300 watt soundbar and this model has double the power and gets twice as loud. You get clean and clear highs combined, good mids, and with clear vocals. The bass is room filing and good especially for movies and gaming. The bass is average for music though but I'll discuss that later.

    - Rear speakers shine. Usually the rear speakers on sound bars are either weak or get drowned out by the front speakers and subwoofer but not with this system. The rear speakers are loud and enhance the sound bubble and also deliver directional sound. When watching a movie or gaming it's awesome to hear and feel sounds moving behind you, over you, and next to you.

    - Nice style and blends in and no connection issues. The soundbar is very long but it looks nice and blends in with my TV stand. No wires running across the floor or all over my living room. I've had issues with Bluetooth wireless soundbars where either the subwoofer or rear speakers cut out or lose connection. I've had 0 connection issues so far.

No technology is perfect so to be fair and balanced here are the cons:

    - This is not a cheap system especially during a pandemic. It's worth every penny once you get it home and use it though.

    - The bass for music is average. When it comes to movies and gaming the bass is good but it can't hit that low end bass with music. I've noticed that front firing or side firing subwoofers can't hit those low end sub sounds in music. Subwoofers that fire down sound much better with music but that's not an option here. It's not a deal breaker though.

    - Out of the box sound is just ok. You will need to adjust the settings and sound profile to make the system sound great. The out of the box settings are bad and you must turn ON surround sound, adjust the sound profile to MOVIES, and turn up the individual speaker volumes. It took about 5-10 minutes to get the sound profile just right to how I prefer it.

Bottom line...this is a great system and it's got all the newest features so it won't be outdated anytime soon. Google Assistant works as advertised and adds to the user experience. Dolby Atmos and Hi Res Audio really shine and I've experienced 0 distortion even on high volumes. I'm very happy with this purchase and would highly recommend to family or friends.

LG SN11 RG 7.1.4---770 Watts!?!? WHAT????

So LG has definitely put out a power house!! From the unboxing and the absolute quality of the speakers. The sound is amazing. They are house shakers! No kidding, on the Bluetooth setting and with my favorite streaming device cranking, my house has a little shake to it. No matter the level the sound is clear as a bell. So watching the first NFL football game of the year the sound of a game are just next to none. Even with a limited crowd the surround sound was amazing. The setup of all 4 speakers were as easy as it can be. Except for getting the audio to sync, more on that in a second. The sound bar I the main brain. Once that is hooked up then everything falls into place. Setup the sound bar then plug in the subwoofer. It auto syncs to the sound bar, same with the rear speakers. So easy to set up!!!! So back to Audio sync with the TV. I had to call Samsung which is my TV brand to instruct me on how to sync audio. Very easy to do, I just didn't realize with sound bars that had to happen. Once I found that it was easy! The only thing the I had an issue with is the wall mounts. Not really a big deal but the angle of the bracket wasn't exactly 90 to the wall. So I had to bend a little to make speakers square to the wall. Over all this system is amazing. The price is pretty high but well worth it! They are House shakers!!!!!

After 4 soundbars...this is the one!!!!

This Dolby atmos soundbar also reads DTS. I found the sound was clearer and had better midrange than the JBL 9.1. The Netflix movie 6 Underground was the first movie I watched. Although the JBL had a larger 10" subwoofer, I felt that the LG had a much more precise lower stage which really surprised me. The Dolby Atmos aspect surrounded me with sound that was accurate and it enveloped us with an amazing sound bubble. The sound can be controlled by the app, but unfortunately, it adjusts the volume and not the tone. But maybe LG may upgrade that in the future. Music playback was great. You can choose just the soundbar, or switch to surround. Once you get use to surround sound, it will be difficult to watch anything without it. *Not all Netflix or Prime videos etc... are equal. By the way, the dimensions of my family room are 25'X17' & 9' ceilings. This is a keeper.

    Awesome sound, terrible surround implementation

TL;DR: Awesome sounding bar. Atmos is very rich. WiFi interference not an issue (my dual-band WiFi 6 router is sitting within three feet of the bar, TV and subwoofer). With the exception of the glaring issue detailed below, this soundbar is a giant upgrade from my former setup - a discrete receiver + 5.1 speakers.

However, a warning for those considering the bar who have an Apple TV 4K or Nintendo Switch... you aren’t getting proper surround.

If you like to listen to your audio in "standard" mode, meaning the surround channels are reproduced per the creator's wish and not up-mixed via some surround mode, there is a glaring issue with this bar. If the bar is fed a Dolby Digital, DTS, Atmos or DTS:X bitstream (regardless of channel count), the sound will come from the speakers as expected. Rear audio is sent to the rear speakers. You should be golden and very pleased with this bar.

However, if you send the bar 5.1 LPCM, it sends the left/right rear channels to the side-firing speakers AT THE FRONT OF YOUR ROOM. You lose true surround for virtualized surround. The only way around this is to turn on different surround "modes" or up-mixers, which generally sound awful and you aren’t getting what the director intended.

This behavior is not a fluke - check out LG's own user manual. Page 27, standard mode, 5.1 Ch "Others" Input. "Others" essentially means LPCM.

I confirmed today that the rear channels on non-Atmos 5.1 content from the Apple TV 4K (output via 5.1 channel LPCM instead of a Dolby bitstream, due to ATV's "Auto" setting) use the bar's front side-firing speakers instead of the wireless rears. The solution is to change your ATV's audio format/output settings from Auto (LPCM) to Dolby 5.1 (bitstream). This slightly reduces audio quality, down-mixes 7.1 content and turns off Atmos, but it makes the rears work as expected.

When I want to watch 7.1 or Atmos content, I now have to change the ATV audio setting back to Auto for that viewing, which restores full LPCM 7.1 or Atmos to the soundbar. It's quite frustrating, but allows proper surround for the vast majority of content we watch, with the option of flipping on Atmos or 7.1 when there is a need. There is far more non-Atmos than Atmos content out there.

Spending $1,500 on what is arguably meant to replace a full AVR, only to then reduce the sound quality from one of your sources, is incredibly frustrating. I’m considering returning it, although I do love the sound.

As a side-note the 5.1 LPCM issue will also plague those using a Nintendo Switch or a PC/console that doesn't encode its audio to a bitstream. I'm a big Mario Kart player and was super disappointed to learn I can no longer hear my opponents coming up from behind my sofa.

    Sounds great!

“I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest review”

I was shocked how well they packaged the parts in the box! I could've have stomped all over the box and I bet it wouldn't have damaged anything. The manual was ok, definitely get a more in depth one on LG's website. I like the look of this sound bar, nice and sleep with a little display screen that has adjustable brightness. I will say it is large so you need to have a long wall or long tv stand. It comes with brackets to hang on the wall. The remote control is small, although I don't use it much since my prime stick remote can control it. The sound bar comes with a lot of sound features but to be honest, I prefer to manage my own like bass, how loud the front and rear speakers are, treble, etc… If you aren’t that savvy and don’t care, the pre-programmed features work well enough. I really like the fact that the rear speakers are wireless but they do have a power cord so still kind of wired. The biggest thing I don’t like is I can’t find rear speaker stands that I want to use. With the payout I have I don’t want to hang them from my wall and I don’t have a long furniture piece behind my couch that they can sit on. The rear speakers are 11.5 lbs each so a good weight and most stands don’t work. The ones that will work only allow the speakers to just sit there, they don’t lock them in so I worry my kids might knock them over accidentally if they bump into them. Guess I am going to have to take that risk. The system comes with an app that you can download. You can use it to make modifications to the features which I like. We use this system in our main room where we watch most of our TV shows, movies and listen to music when cooking. There are several pre-programmed features depending upon if you are watching sports, a movie, tv shows, listening to music, or playing video games that help enrich the sound. I was surprised how well a sound bar could work. The audio on this system is amazing and can clearly hear words when spoken!

    Exceptional Sound Quality!

I had the opportunity to set-up and experience the LG SN11RG Soundbar with Meridian Technology. Setup of the LG SN11RG was pretty straightforward, and although most components are wireless, a power supply cord is still necessary. This may minimize your ability to position the speaker optimally. The unit is lengthy at almost 60-inches, and so it did not fit in our console cutout. However, because this soundbar houses speakers on the sides and on top of the unit, I would not have opted to put it inside anyway (afraid of sound distortion). Set-up with Google assistant made it virtually effortless for me to link this system with my Spotify and Sirius XM radio. I was somewhat disappointed that the unit came with only an optic cable, rather than an HDMI cable. Because the Dolby Atmos is only accessible through the ARC pass, an HDMI is really necessary to maximize sound experience. Despite this (I purchased my own HDMI), the LG SN11RG did not at all disappoint in regard to sound quality. As an avid technology buff, I was excited to see the Dolby Atmos come to life when this soundbar was coupled with our 86-inch LG television. The sound output with Meridian technology is crisp and clean, moreso than any previously owned soundbar. The sound enhances total television experience while bringing the picture to life with sound detail. I absolutely love watching football, as this soundbar makes me feel as though I am in the audience! Gaming with this soundbar has also been a terrific experience, as the sound simply fills the room. The most subtle sound details can be heard on the surround sound speakers-- a totally new experience for me. I do wish their was a manual knob for bass adjustment, but the system seems to be fairly adequate with self-adjusting bass and the highs/mids/low ranges. Overall, the quality, performance and audio output from the LG SN11RG Soundbar has far surpassed my every expectation. Exceptional sound quality, exceptional television!

    Elegant, compact, and sounds great!

I love this soundbar! I paired it with my LG C1 OLED 65-inch and it looks and sound great! The center speakers, overhead speakers, and subwoofer levels can be set with the LG Soundbar app that you download to your mobile device. I just wish you could adjust the levels with the included remote. However, it's not a huge deal. This thing gets pretty loud for such a tiny package. I love the low-vibration subwoofer because you can hear the rumble without it causing a lot of sounds to come from the tv stand like crackling and whatnot. I put it inside of my tv stand but most people will probably put it to the side or behind it. Dolby Atmos content sounds awesome. I watched 3 movies on Netflix and was impressed with the sound quality. I think it's the coolest soundbar system out right now. Highly satisfied!

At this price point I do not recommend

I have to preface that this was meant to replace a bedroom sound bar that is going out. My wife hates that I play audio loud when we sleep and the biggest hurdle is voice dialogue coming through clearly with the rest of the sound not overpowering. This speaker was to replace my Polk 2.1 voice assist mini sound bar that has since broke. This was similar in size, and seemed to have all the audio tech I was looking for. I bought this prior to any reviews as it was so new, and not being able to hear it in store for the same reason. I found it on sale, and pulled the trigger hoping it would work. I hooked everything up, which was a breeze, and tested the sound. The sound bar was not good for dialogue. It sounded great for action movies and did replicate 70-80% of what larger 5.1 systems could do, but it wasn’t what I was looking for. I ultimately returned it.

    Pros-

    1. Set up was easy as long as you only have one device you’re hooking it up to (see cons)

    2. Good sound for such a small system

    3. Minimalistic look

    4. Subwoofer was very powerful

    5. Replicates larger 5.1 systems adequately.

    Cons

    1. Only one HDMI in! Where I was using this that was ok because I was only plugging in a fire stick. Nothing else. However, if you Have a cable box AND a streaming device, well only one can hook up and deliver the highest available audio quality through the speaker. I imagine most people will have at a minimum of 2-5 devices plugging in. (Game system, streaming device, cable box, Bali ray disc players, etc.) There is an optical input, but the whole point of the high end Dolby Atmos is through HDMI.

    2. No custom audio settings. You can adjust the bass only. There are some preset audio configurations, like stadium, music, movies etc. but what about personalizing the audio? No manual settings for audio.

    3. Dialogue sounds awful. I have had other sound systems that are less than this price that deliver better dialogue and I think this goes hand in hand with limited audio settings

    4. No UI. All settings are done from the remote. The sound bar doesn’t have a digital screen to tell you what input you’re on or what setting you’re adjusting. It has little dots on the front and that is all. I get the minimalist approach to this, but for this price, I expect either a good supported app, or some basic UI.

The overall theme here is “at this price point,” save your money and buy something else.

New Dimension of Sound from a Flat TV

My wife and I have spent the last year with a nice 55" 4K HDR TV in our master bedroom. The TV isn't bad, but the audio from the speakers is two-dimensional and boring. We really wanted to improve our audio experience to something in line with our Atmos setup in our home theater. The sound in this room is spectacular by my standards, but I didn't want to go through the trouble of wiring and installing speakers for the master. The right path was to go with a sound bar and one that supports the latest Dolby Atmos standards to fill the room with sound.

The LG SN9YG 5.1.2 Channel High Res Audio Sound Bar checked all the boxes for us and then some. It's a hefty little unit that conveniently fits exactly within the frame of our 55" inch display. Its loaded with seven outward facing speakers to bounce off your walls and ceiling. On top of that it also supports Google Assistant with a built-in mic array which we found to be a nice addition.

Setup of the unit wasn't too bad. Wiring is a breeze and while I couldn't get the unit to connect to WiFi at first I was able to quickly get a hold of LG chat support who explained to me that I needed to connect it through the Google assistant app first. Despite my reluctance to read the manual carefully I was able to quickly get the speaker up and running and connected to my TV and other devices. They all sounded infinitely better on the sound bar than the built-in TV speakers. I did learn that my TV does not support Atmos so I had to run my devices directly into the HDMI input port on the sound bar. Once I did that the magic of Atmos was enabled.

We tried this sound bar in two rooms. While I was impressed with the clarity and power of the sound bar in the living room, it did not create an image of sound coming from different directions as intended with Atmos. I expected this as an Atmos soundbar needs to reflect the sound off nearby walls to work. For a large room like this I wouldn't recommend an Atmos sound bar. However, once we moved this to the master it shone brilliantly! While I don't get the same clear sound object image as in my theater room, I certainly noticed the sound coming from all directions. Scenes with audio from the ceiling created a sense of height and immersion and the stereo separation was very apparent and dominated the tinny speakers in our TV. For a smaller room I definitely recommend this sound bar. It delivers a good Atmos experience without the need for in-wall installation.

I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest review.

    Home Theater and Google Assistant!

We recently turned our basement into an entertainment theater. We purchased an LG projector and needed theater like sound that would pair easily to the projector without showing a lot of cords. The LG SN9YG is an impressive wireless, smart, and attractive sound bar that was the perfect choice for our home theater. Our family uses Google Home and Google Assistant throughout our house . It was very easy using Google Assistant to set up the sound bar and pair it to my projector. The speakers face upwards on the sound bar, which are referred to as "up firing" speakers. The placement of these speakers is what allows for the Dolby Atmos room filling surround sound. What contributes highly to this room filling surround sound is the sub-woofer. The sub-woofer is larger than others I have seen, which may be why it produces such a deep bass and low-pitched sounds. I selected to use the AI Sound Pro setting which delivers optimal sound using smart technology. I find this setting works best because it does auto adjust to movies, TV, and your surroundings. When watching movies, the clarity of sound is amazing, I hear so many sounds I wasn't hearing before. I've also used it for music as well - I love saying "ok google play today's hit on Pandora" and music starts right up! Brackets to attach to the wall come with the soundbar is you want to hang it on the wall which we plan to do, once our projector screen is installed. Overall, I don't have any complaints - this soundbar is awesome! I received this product at a discounted price in exchange for my honest review

    Best quality for best price!!!

This product comes highly secure! LG really takes the time to package this product in a way to prevent any damage from shipping. Extremely easy set up; came with a couple of cords, sound bar, and subwoofer. The sound has multiple setting types to chose from for any occasion and it’s good quality even when loud because of the Dolby Atmos and High Resolution sound features. The sound bar can even be connected to Google for easy assistance! I’d highly recommend this product to anyone considering a new sound system for their home.

    Great mistake...

Got this as an upgrade because I thought my old one was toast. Turns out it was the digital optical cable was bad. Great mistake for me. It changed watching television... the sound is so crisp and clear and the bass shakes the floor. Then I went to my spotify.... rocked the house.

    This soundbar can get loud!

We are in love with our new LG SN10YG! It pairs perfectly with our LG television and as a bluetooth speaker. The setup was extremely easy, including setting it up to the wireless network. The sound quality of dialogue is stunning and Dolby Atmos really makes you feel immersed in whatever you are listening to. Its sleek, compact design fits perfectly in my living room. Great system just make sure you set it up correctl

This would easily be a five-star audio system as you get Dolby Atmos 100% of the time versus any other brand that needs the TV to signal the sound bar or even sound system to trigger the Dolby Atmos with LG you just need to put it on movie or cinema mode and the Dolby Atmos speakers play all the time along with the two side speakers they consider those surround sound so you have surround Dolby Atmos and then basically a 3.1 in the front and the subwoofer can boom.

The reason I didn't give it five stars is they don't need to have the Google Assistant in it but I guess for some people it's nice the only problem is is when you hook it up if you have too many other devices around it you're going to notice crackling in the speakers because of interference.

Since I have a Sony 958 which has Google Assistant in it and a Google nest right below it with the screen every time I say the magic Google words it would trigger three things My TV the sound bar and the nest annoying!

So then I decided to read the manual it said okay you can reset it by holding the microphone down for 5 seconds on the sound bar not the remote just in case you guys make a mistake hold the mute button on the soundbar it's a little microphone that slashed out hold that for 5 to 6 seconds and your system or soundbar will reset back to factory specs.

Well after that when I would ask my Google what the weather was the sound bar would say you have not set this device up yet so I started getting annoyed well I found out it was just as simple as touching the mute button one time and now I'm good to go.

Now I thought it was pretty good then but then I went and started looking into higher end audio stores and the best way to set up the system as usually your TV and stereo system is set on PCM that is the absolute worst thing you can do for this sound bar you want to make it on pass through and there's a few other tricks but literally when I did that on the Sony the volume and base literally doubled I was watching TV normally at 10 to 11 now 5 to 6 on the volume.

So another thing is I have an LG OLED C8 and it's almost 2 years old I got it October 2018 well they were doing a deal with that and I got an SK9Y which is just an older model of this that did not have the Google Assistant in it and that thing rocked but after about 8 months it started getting interference and the sub would cut out when I was playing Xbox so LG gives you a one-year warranty on it they sent me a box I put it in send it to them and they apparently changed the part in the subwoofer which did absolutely nothing and all I ended up doing was buying a better modem and router and moving it higher and further away from the system and no more problems.

Well with this system it's in my living room it's away from everything else but like I said if you have multiple devices whether it's Alexa or any voice command devices if your TV has voice command I I tell you this in advance do not bother with the Google Assistant Don't set it up just mute the mic and then use the remote to set it to your preference take it off PCM on the TV and put it on pass through and also make sure you have it on Dolby Atmos Dolby DTS Don't be surround and look for these at like Allen Ed's audio whoever sells the most outrageous priced audio equipment is going to have the best way to set up your soundbar or sound system and that's what I did I tried to step by step and it is now amazing.

It would be so nice if Best buy had employees that had this knowledge and could tell you this before you purchased the item because I know only about 5% of people are going to read everything that I wrote well spoke.

Anyway I have two of the LG 5.1.2 sound bars The SK9Y and now the SN9y and they are both amazing on the older one I just use an optical cable as ark did not make a difference I could even run it on Bluetooth and it sounded exactly the same but on this newer one you definitely want to run an HDMI cable and run it to the ark channel on your TV.

And lastly the only reason I didn't go with the 10 was the giant gap in size I have the Sony 950H and a 55-in and have the stands where they're supposed to be spread out all the way and this literally fits perfectly in there it doesn't go all the way back it goes to the middle of the stand where the metal is welded together but it makes it look that like the TV was built this way it's so clean.

The SN10 I think is another 5 in on each end so another 10 inches long and you only get an extra 50 watts get out of here I mean I can shake my apartment with this where the floors walls mirror shake everything if you get it set up right like I said with pass through put it on arc and make sure you have Dolby Atmos DTS and surround sound all enabled then you are going to have an amazing sound system

Decent sound but has some issues

The soundbar is very attractive and short enough can fit under most tvs, although it is quite large in depth. Setting up the bar was quite simple. Downloading the Google Home app and Lg WIFI Speaker app to set everything up was fairly easy. The Lg app sometimes couldnt find my soundbar but after a quick refresh it popped up.

The sound on the other hand needs to be loud to hear any atmos effect. Even then the affect really wasnt that good. so i wouldnt reccomend getting this for a smaller bedroom. The dialogue seemed to get lost quite a bit with dolby atmos enabled. The dialogue also sounded very "pitchy" at moments. It's not bad, but has a bit of a weird sound (maybe I just dont like LG's sound). Normal stereo sound on the other hand sounded pretty good. The Bass was good and was pretty powerful sounding. I just expected better sound quality, especially from the center channel which sounded like a cheaper speaker at times.

I tested the netflix internal app on my LG C9 with eARC enabled and they synced up flawlessly with the soundbar. The Biggest issue I had was Audio delay. I have my Xbox One X and PS4 Pro hooked up to the tv and the soundbar just getting audio sent to it through eARC. Enabling dolby atmos in the xbox menu gave a slight delay to the audio, causing sound to show up half a second later than what was happening on screen. I tried and swapped every setting I could with no avail. I even swapped hdmi cables around (even though I'm using 48gbps cables) and nothing worked. Maybe eARC just isnt that stable yet.

Overall the soundbar is decent, maybe it was my room layout, but the $899 price is a steep price for the sound quality I was hearing. I love LG TVs but maybe the sound bars just arent for me.
