Bought one three months ago and i love it!

I tried a few other brands that my friends had but ended up buying this and i LOVE IT. Only recomendation i would make is to eventually improve battery life or make battery swappable.

    We love our Max

I have two scooters at home, the Max and the ES2. I like both, they each serve different purposes. The Max is more robust, you feel like you’re on a much more stable ride. It goes over 18.6 mph, I’ve hit 19.8 mph but never 20. I haven’t gone downhill, so it may surpass 20 mph. Braking is very grippy and tires grip the road well too. You feel safe on this scooter. Light is bright, rear brake light flashes when you engage the brake. The deck is large, you can easily stand and cruise for long distances. Overall we are happy with our purchase.

    Summer has arrive

Greatest scooter on price range. From all reviews on internet this is the best choice. And great that my local Bestbuy sells them and you can add geek service. I got 2. Is the only one with long range also runs up to 18-19 mph, so use helmet :)

Mobile app will connect with scooter for updates and power reading and is very helpful with setup.

It’s super fun to go out to work, local market, dining and the beach.

I wanted to give it a 4.5. it does come with flaws

So when I saw the email asking me to review this products I though....hey let me just review it as a video. I've touched on alot of points you need to know as a "future" or "new" owner that I wish I saw in the reviews on here. So I made up a video last minute and put it up here on my YouTube channel "Jonasegway". I think I hit all of the key things without saturating common things like advertised specs on the machine. I am currently working on uploading controlled range test that was performed on the same trail with the same rider weight "just about " maintaining the same cruising speeds. Check it out. If you guys want to contact me for "live info" my snapchat is the same username "Jonasegway". Hopefully this helps you out!

    This scooter is really AMAZING!!!!

This scooter is AMAZING!!!! I had one before but it broke, thank goodness I had the two year plan because I was able to get a store credit and I bought this other scooter. I've had this scooter for about 3-4 months so you understand that I've been riding it for a while. I weigh 225 and this amazing scooter can hold my weight just fine. At first it wasn't as fast, but after a month of having it, this thing picked up faster. I think it might be a safety thing to ease you in. It's really smooth, sturdy, quick, and the battery will last forever. I went almost 10 miles mostly in high gear and I still had a half of a charge left. You wont regret buying this. Just take care of it and keep it out of water. Don't over charge it all the time. You should run it down below 50% before charging it. Don't keep it plugged up all the time. This is not meant for children under 12. Teenage/Adult scooter.

    Loving it!

It’s easy to ride (once you practice for a little bit) and the only negative thing about it is my shins hurt (get sore) from riding it for long periods of time. I think it has to do with me always leaning forward (speed demon here). I ride this thing everyday now for the past few weeks to work and back, and I actually look forward to it, it’s fun, not as fast as a vehicle but I can literally smell the flowers as I go to work and back home ;) great purchase, I did wish it went a little faster but in some ways I am glad it doesn’t because I would probably hurt myself.

Even good for an old guy!

I am almost 65 years old and my balance isn’t what it used to be. When I first got on this contraption, I initially wobbled back and forth and thought, “Oh my gosh, what have I gone and done!” After a couple more tries, I was able to mount and dismount minus the wobbling. Fortunately, there is a low speed learning requirement before the throttle is able to be moved up a bit. I took the Ninebot to a quarter mile runner’s track, and did 6 practice laps before taking it out into the “real world.” I am glad I did, because even with the smooth flat surface, I still took a spill. But only one, and there was no audience!

After only 3 days of occasional use, I’m getting rather comfortable on this, and am sure I will only get better with continued use. It doesn’t like inclines very much, and the instructions say a 5% incline is all it will do. I am inclined to believe that. I’m still a bit shaky over slight bumps, but am again certain I’ll become more comfortable with use. Good purchase for me..., as long as I don’t ride it off a cliff...

    I LOVE Segway!!!

I have done Segway tours all over the world during my vacations, and I love them. I jumped at the chance to get this when it went on sale during the holidays and it's working great over half a year later.

It's the personal version which is smaller and limiting in terms of incline/power/speed compared to the bigger ones we're all used to. It works great on paved concrete and cement, flat surface, and 10 mph is pretty fast. It has automatic slow down feature, although I personally don't like it but probably good for kids. And the self-balancing is great technology, better than other products.

The knee controls are easy to get used to and maneuver; however, I'm used to handles so I purchased a handlebar accessory (third party) which can also be used as knee controls.

Overall, great product. Easy to use. Charge lasts long. App is good to track distance/location and lock. Thanks Best Buy for bringing Segway to my local store!

    Nothing but fun

I had the previous 2016 MiniPro model which was nothing but fun. During that time, the tires eventually wore down and went pretty bald. So I ordered two more tires to replace and install myself before I experience an unfortunate accident. Needless to say, it was all easier said than done. Replacing/installing new tires on your own was a real pain and simply could not do it or find someone who was willing to do it. So reluctantly, I ended up purchasing this newer model and am back in the game. I gave it 4 stars for one fatal design flaw and that flaw would be the steering knee bar which is not adjustable as it's predecessor was. That is most unfortunate. I'm not at all very tall standing at 5'8, but it still can be rather uncomfortable as the knee padding is lacking in cushion. So basically I had to get creative and add some cushion or ride in pain. I realize this device is designed more toward the younger crowd. But it can support 220lbs. as the specs state and therefore can be considered a fun toy for adults as well. Why would you do away with the an adjustable bar Segway/Ninebot?

    Solid Build. Fun but challenging

It is a blast to ride. I use it to commute in a downtown environment daily. HOWEVER, it is challenging to ride well. Think high end scateboard. The bumps and lips in a typical sidewalk/road are challenging to get over without feeling like you will fall, or actually falling. It's took me about two weeks to become moderately skilled and I now hit full speed pretty regularly (at first you won't be comfortable with that speed). Make sure to buy a helmet and wear regularly. Even though I consider myself pretty good at it, and haven't fallen off yet, I could easily imagine falling off at 10 mph (which is actually faster than it seems).

    Almost perfect

works great and preforms just as well as the previous model I purchased and I would have given it 5 stars except the knee bar is not adjustable anymore like the last model so for someone 5' 11" or taller the knee bar is a little too low and at a slightly awkward and uncomfortable position.

What an awesome riding machine for anyone!

The Segway - Ninebot S Self Balancing Scooter excelled my expectations. I had tried other scooters and I end up been disappointed but with the Ninebot S the frustration and disappointment is part of the past. This toy is terrific, it is well manufactured, the guide to put it together is simple and the performance is phenomenally a joy! The feature that allows (in this case a parent) to switch the speed of the scooter from safe mode (Beginners) to Sports (Advanced) , enables me to be under control at all time and with that adding extra safety power for my younger kids! Thank You, I am truly a raving fan!!!

    Amazing Design & Ride Quality

I am an employee of Best Buy and had the opportunity to test out the Unagi Model One and it was the smoothest, most quality scooter I have driven. I have seen many references to it being the Tesla or Apple of electric scooters and after riding the scooter I understand. The pictures don't do it justice, everything is very well well put together. Other scooters I have driven can feel a little flimsy and that the hinges/screws aren't tight, but this scooter is solid! I was also surprised to see the scooter had electronic brakes. Some scooters may advertise higher speeds, but I got to 17MPH no problem and notice minimal decrease in speed when going up a pretty steep hill in my neighborhood. The built in front and tail lights were a pleasant surprise and made me feel safe when driving home at dusk. The only part of this scooter that I didn't like was that the "horn" is located pretty close to the accelerator, so I found that I would often accidentally hit the horn when trying to accelerate. This wasn't a huge issue, but did surprise me a couple of times. Overall, I thought this lived up to the "Tesla or Apple of Scooters" reputation.

    Classy Scooter!

I am an employee of Best Buy and had the opportunity to use the Unagi Model One Foldable Electric Scooter. I enjoy everything about this scooter. Starting with setup our of the box. In a matter of minutes I had the scooter set up and ready to ride. All parts needed for assembly are included so you do not have to worry about not having the correct tool at home to complete the little assembly that is required. The scooters handling and response is a big strength so I feel comfortable and safe while riding. This scooter has 3 different ride settings which makes it functional and safe for all levels of riders. The LED screen is a great feature, it captures battery life, speed, distance traveled and the ride level you have it set to. I really like the pickup this scooter has, it gets you up to speed in a hurry and maintains the speed very well while going up hills. I have yet to completely drain the battery so battery life is also strength of this scooter. When you are not riding the scooter it easily folds down and is easy to carry store in small places. Overall, this is a great product and I highly recommend it.

    Amazing Scooter

I am a Best Buy employee and had the opportunity to test the Unagi Model One electric scooter. In my opinion this is the best electric scooter I've ever ridden. It's an incredibly smooth ride and this scooter also has great response when using the throttle or brake. It maintains a consistent speed whether you’re riding on flat ground or going up a hill. I’ve been able to get it up to 16 MPH and have been impressed with the battery life and distance you can go on a single charge. It also has a good headlight and tail light for safe riding at night. Overall, this is a great scooter and would definitely recommend.

    Purdy Great E-Scooter

The Unagi Model One is a very sleek and cool piece of kit. The design gets a lot of attention, the paint, fit and finish, dashboard are all top notch.

I've never ridden an e-scooter - so I took it out to a parking lot and started in beginner mode 1. It's easy enough to ride, and the brakes seem really good to me. Today, I went into mode 2/dual battery mode on the street and was like "whoa"...lol... so if you're a noob, get your bearings in beginner mode before you hit the big time in city traffic. This scoot has tiny wheels - which is good and sometimes not so good - it can get a little twitchy if you're going a little fast and need to come to any kind of emergency stop. But those small wheels also make is a joy to handle, and low speed maneuvers are super simple, making tight turns are a breeze on the Unagi Model One.

Ride quality: The parking lot I practiced on was pretty smooth so it was a very joyful experience. But add in any other business, like even a crack in the sidewalk - you're gonna feel it with those solid tires. It's not the cushiest ride out there, but I didn't want inflatables because I just don't want to deal with flat tires and the drama that goes with.

The only other thing I would say to keep in mind is the range and top speed. Check the specs and make sure The Model One will work for you. For me, I just want to toodle around Brooklyn a little, I'm not looking to be on it for hours or win any races. I just want to get in the wind a little and look good doing it.

So if you like refined design and build quality and, um, beautiful paint - The Unagi Model One will not disappoint; and the Cosmic Blue color-way is out of this world. Also- the foldable design is so intuitive, just fold down til you hear the click - and you're good to carry. It has it's downsides, but if you go into it knowing what they are - the Unagi Model One is a refined piece of transport - and hard not to adore.

Shout out to BestBuy - they got the scoot to me 2 weeks earlier than anticipated. Loves me some BestBuy!

Almost a good scooter. Returned after 2 weeks.

The prettyness of the scooter comes at a cost. Unfortunately the cons outweighed the pros. Returned the scooter.

    Pros:

    - Super sleek looking

    - Nice acceleration

    - Good electronic braking

    - Quiet motor

    Cons:

    - Glitchy display. Sometimes the battery meter would blank out. The trip meter read 6,123 miles and could not reset.

    - Battery life. There's no way this can go the advertised mileage on a single charge if you're on the third gear.

    - CREAKS. the stem creaks almost violently. There is 'give' to this scooter as you pull the handlebars back or forward during natural use. Other reviewers have had this problem. But it's almost embarrassing as you ride.

    - No shock absorption (!!) you will feel EVERY bump in the road. Very uncomfortable ride, and it's scary to hit any sized divot. On the second week, after hitting a (small) pothole in the road here in nyc, the lack of shock absorption ultimately broke the steering mechanism. I couldn't turn the scooter without it pulling aggressively to the left or right.

I'm surprised to see people not talking about this... I wanted to like the scooter, but for $1K, not CLOSE to being worth it. There are better scooters for less than half the price.

    Tesla of Electric Scooters!

The permanent grin on your face while you hit the throttle and feel the instant acceleration of the dual wheel 250w motors (500w total=theoretical 1000w max performance) is well worth the price of admission. The e-brakes are smooth and gradual and are probably the best brakes I've used on an e-scooter. Build quality, fit, and finish are top notch! Ride quality suffers compared to e-scooters with pneumatic air-filled tires but you'll never have to worry about flats. If you've got smooth, paved roads to ride on then this is definitely the e-scooter to own.

    Tesla of electric scooters!!

The Unagi scooter is absolutely amazing! Instant torque with the dual motor and the fact that the body is made out of aluminum and carbon. The handle bar is such a great piece from the lcd screen to the magnesium finish.

Great lil scooter for younger kids!

I bought this scooter for my daughter on her 8th birthday and she was ecstatic. This scooter can move!! I collect old 80s Honda’s and this thing will cruise right along next to me, at about 15 mph. Granted the battery will not make it ten miles, it will still go pretty far on a single charge. Also I would not buy this for a 12-14 year old as they suggest. My daughter fits on it perfect and she is 8, and I’m guessing that she will be grown out of it by 11 or 12. Overall a great scooter for younger kids that really moves out on the road!

    Fun Little Bike

If your little girl is getting a scooter, this is a good one. She will love it. Don't worry, this is not a scooter just for 12-14 year olds. My girl is nowhere near 12 and she fits just fine. I got her speedoed at 13mph on the flat so it is fast but not too fast. Teach her the rules of the road, get her good gear and make sure she wears it. Ride On!

I followed the directions for the battery and she was able to ride for the amount of time specified in the instructions.

    Great Birthday Present!

My doughter was so exited when she got it. It took about a week to get it in Chicago. The price was $30 less then Wallmart's. Accelerator does not have a lot of speed controll, so at lower speed the you need to turn it on and off, which might cause prmature controller failure and jerky ride, because of that. Otherwise it is a great scooter for girls and boys, since even if it is pink, it did not stop boys riding it at the park. :)

    Fun for the price

This is a quality item, fun and easy to ride. It actually does everything it states it will do. Some of the drawbacks for me were the low ground clearance (we have speed bumps in the parking lots around my neighborhood), lack of suspension (rough ride on roads that are not smooth or sidewalks), the app is not that user friendly and disconnects often, and there is no key or way to turn off the power so that it cannot be used by unwanted riders (security).

I think it's great if you are just looking to have something that does the job, however it can go through hurdles with big holes and dents on concrete, also you may have to be under 5'11 to enjoy the scooter as it is short. I'm 5'3" and I enjoy it pretty well .

    Battery did not hold charge

This was a Christmas present for my Son-in-Law so that he wouldn't have to walk to work every day in the cold weather. He loved it immediately but, unfortunately, the battery would not hold a charge so we had to return it. Our Best Buy did not have any more in stock so he switched to a different brand, which cost a little more, and it is working, and charging, perfectly. It only takes him three minutes to get to and from work now!

    Good Scooter, Bad range

The scooter itself was solidly built and functioned as advertised but the battery failed to get even close to the advertised ratting of 12.4 miles listed in the specifications. I am a small guy and weight the max rating of 150lbs and thought this would do well to get around the warehouse and cut back the amount of walking I do. The battery only last a single day ~5km by their display, which is only 3.1 miles. Getting only 25% of the rated range while on flat concrete is not acceptable. For a kids toy this will probably do just fine but its not cut out for something more than some playful joyriding.

Looks great and perfect for kids.

This is my second Swagtron scooter. The first did not have any issues for my kid and he loves it. This blue one gave my other kid some trouble. My daughter says it will not go when the accelerator lever is pressed. Sometimes the motor hesitate to go forward, jerky motion and doesn’t want to go. Sometimes I would have to reboot the scooter to get it to start going. I got an RMA from Swagtron and they received the scooter on 8/27/20. I’m still waiting for it to come back. Swagtron’s turnaround time is between 5-20 business days. Crazy slow repair process. My kid have been asking me when she’s going to get her scooter back. And I don’t have an answer for her.

    Great!!

I bought this for my 8 year old daughter and she loves it. She was scared to try it at first but has now became a pro at riding it. It’s the perfect size for her and goes a lot faster than my mama heart can take. Overall, it was a great buy!

    Fast and Solid Scooter

I decided to get this scooter coz the previous scooter i have is a cheapy one for $150 from ebay. It only last for 2months and never works anymore. (I get what I paid for)

I think this is the latest model from Hover 1. This scooter has power. Its fast and the quality of material is solid. Bigger tires, thicker frame, it has blue tooth speaker and cool blue led lights from the bottom.

The only cons is, its a bit bigger and heavier than I thought. Not convenient if your carrying it up and down the Bart station. I don't think it will fit in between seats even if u fold it. Unfortunately I have to returned it because of it. We also thought of saving money for xmas but over all I liked it. I want to get 1 again in the future for just riding around the neighborhood. I would recommend this scooter! It's worth the money.

This may or may not work for you!!!

I rode this Scooter a grand total of 16 miles before it failed. I charged it exactly 4 times. I rode it mostly on flat areas with a few hills (which required either me walking it up the hill or helping the motor by kicking with my foot to get to the top of the hill. Today the scooter failed on a 3/4 charge, the scooter would not ride faster than 2 MPH on a flat and level street. I tried both regular and sports mode. I am under the maximum weight for the scooter. I am thinking the motor may have failed. I have reached out to the manufacturer of the scooter to see what is their suggestion to resolve this issue. I also had a problem where the scooter shut itself off mid ride. I think Hover may have a problem with this scooter. I previously contacted them about spare parts (tires, tubes) etc as they do not even list this scooter on their website as a product that they manufacture. I am concerned that Best Buy did not investigate this product and potential issues prior to selling the product to the public. The scooter has a lot of potential, nice wide platform and solid feeling frame. I suspect that the scooter would be perfect if they replaced the 400 watt motor with a 750 watt motor and added a front brake.

Blazing Fast Yet Safe & Sturdy

FAST! Every member of our family took a spin and we loved how fast it can cruise. So much fun!

BIG WHEELS & GREAT QUALITY! This scooter isn't cheaply made. The wheels are big and heavy duty.

VERY POWERFUL! With every family member ranging from 80lb to 200lb+ there didn't seem to be any slowing down.

LARGE! This scooter is larger than the others we have seen. The box was big, but we were able to put it in the back seat of a car to get it home.

(Our twin boys age 9 years old couldn't wait for me to take a photo of them as soon as we got it out of the box. Great joint shared family holiday gift idea even in Minnesota where they ride it in the garage when it is too cold out!)

It’s a good scooter for the price.

I really like this scooter it does job a lot of fun to ride.

Not so good when it comes to small uphill riding. Keep in mind I am on the heavier side but still even someone who’s lighter than me had to kick push when going uphill. Other than that I like it so far I’ve only used it for about a week or so. Love how fast it goes and how easy it is to to handle.

Nice starter scooter for the price

If you’re new to the e scooter and don’t want to pay close to $800 I would start with this to see if the e scooters are for you or you just want to jump on one from time to time. For me the range and speed is decent enough especially in sport mode. The ride is pretty smooth but I haven’t compared it to the more expensive scooters as of yet. So far I had it for two weeks now and haven’t had any issues with it but I did purchase the protection plan because of the previous reviews on this scooter.

    Great scooter

Very fun scooter. Gets me where I want to go. Top speed on high power depending on weight and elevation incline is 18 MPH. Battery life is ok, however don't plan to go more than 7-10 miles away with out your charger. Great for parks and paths. Fun for the kids and adults. Has a Bluetooth speaker built-in so you can listen to your favorite tunes as you ride. Always use a helmet and follow manual recommendations for safety.

    Awesome!!!

I really thought I'd use it once in a while but I ended up using it almost every other day and I loved it. However.......... the only negative is air pressure gauage is horrible!!! It is very hard to keep the gauage in stay still and pump it. The air keeps leaking and it is ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE to fill the air in the air. Plus the air pressure tool is very ppor quality and break very easy!!!!

Another negative is that it is VERY VERY hard to find the right size gauage that would fits the hoover tire. You will have to keep try and find somewhere on-line until you find the right size gauage. It aint no easy but the sccooter is CHAMP!!

FYI - it isn't 17.4 mph!! It is 22 MPH FASTER depend on surface and tbhde battery lasts about 1 hour.

    Love my ride!

Such a fun little toy. I forgot that it had eco and sport modes. So the first time riding I was in Eco mode and only got to 15 mph. It felt slow but I was ok with it thinking if I went any faster it wouldn’t feel right. Then I discovered sports mode and hit 25 mph and It felt right. It was so fun flying down a clear stretch of road! Bumps hit hard so be careful. It’s a little heavy for me (5’1” 118 lbs, no strength) so I bought a bag on Amazon and it’s so much easier to carry around now.

    Sadly dissapointed

Purchased it through BB dot com on Pre Black friday deal for $437.00, waited about a week after instore pick up to finally open it. Watched some youtube videos regarding the model before opening it out of excitement for ny new scooter, then when it came time to set it up......the scooter wouldnt turn on. I checked the connector twice,(made sure it was properly connected to the handlebars. Which btw it is also a pain to connect. Lift it the throttle and brake shifter as a youtube comment suggested.let it charged for about an hour and nothing( after reading the quick guide i figured it couldnt be the battery because they recommend not leaving it drained for long, so i would assume it comes precharged). Searched googled and youtube for answers and found it is a common issue. And after seeing some videos and their comments on the recurring different issues, I decided I will return it(though about exchanging it). Im so bummed, i was so excited to finally owning an e Scooter :/ ! I noticed i could have submitted some pictures but i store it back in its box. I will gladly take my money back and try again in the future.

Bad product, bad service; 100 percent disappointed

This is my second unit. First one purchased from BB came with a torn warranty sticker, so I returned. Second one arrived but due to the holidays and my work schedule I wasn't able to unbox right away. Finally opened it, and it won't power on. DOA. Contacted BB customer support ,and they told me to contact the manufacturer because it was a few days past the extended holiday return policy. I would understand if I simply decided I didn't want the product, but this thing is defective. And I already had to return the initial one. I would reconsider buying this product again because it appears to have too many issues and poor quality control. I would also reconsider making large purchases at BB in the event you don't have an opportunity to test the product before the return deadline. I have been making several purchases at BB recently, but I'm going to have to reconsider where I make future purchases. Definitely do your homework on the unit and the store before you buy. This is a very poor outcome for a relatively expensive investment.

Fun and fast full-size kick scooter

This is a very capable scooter with some interesting features:

    - 10" air-inflated wheels

    - The 40-Cell Li-Ion battery is removable and held on the stem.

    - Brushless motor is on the front-wheel, rated 350 Watts.

    - Disc brakes on the rear wheel, and can also brake kicking the rear wheel.

    - Aluminum construction. Weights about 33 Lb.

The scooter comes ready to use, only requiring to screw the handlebars by hand and attach the brake handle with a simple hex wrench (included).

It has a simple display showing the speed an charge remaining. The only controls are the electronic accelerator and the brake. On the accelerator there is a power button and a mode control, which is a speed limiter: Training: 6 mph, kids: 10 mph and full speed up to 16 mph.

It comes with its own charger which is a proprietary switching power supply with a barrel connector.

Holding the speed button also turns the lights on or off: One headlight and rear lights on the rear wheel cover, which also blinks when braking.

There is no phone app on this scooter. Just turn on and go. No phone tracking, nothing else to set up. It's very simple to use.

Our teen kids picked it up right away. Learning to use takes a couple of minutes.

To start it, turn it on, kick on the base (So it knows you're actively using it), roll it about 2 mph and start accelerating (this so it doesn't take off by mistakenly pressing the accelerator).

It had a good amount of torque, and goes up to 16 mph. It does struggle with hills, but it worked on its own on relatively steep roads around the neighborhood.

It's fairly simple to fold: One clip protects a lever on the bottom of the mast. It then clips to the rear wheel. To unfold it, press the rear wheel, lift the mast and the lever at the hinge. There is a clip so it doesn't unlock with vibration.

The driving range for this would be about 25 miles (ideally) on a single charge. I was not able to test it completely, as my range anxiety made me charge it when the charge indicator shown a bit over half capacity, and I must've driven well over 10 miles.

IPX4 rated which means it can resist splashes (poodles, etc.).

It carrier an UL safety label for US/CA, which is reassuring.

This is a branded version of the Kixin X8 Scooter.

    Caveats:

The warranty on this is only 3 months, which is disappointing for an expensive model.

Since this is a full-size scooter with a larger battery pack, it's somewhat heavy and kind of bulky to carry, but there is no secure way to lock this on the street. Not much we can do but having a way to lock it with a chain would've been useful.

Overall, I think the speed and power are adequate. More power is always nice but this works surprisingly well.

I like that the battery is removable and on the front stem instead of the bottom, which makes it much more protected, particularly over poodles of water. The battery can be charged in or outside the scooter.

The disc brake is smooth. Quick stops that are not sudden.

While it doesn't have a suspension, the air tires make up for it, keeping it relatively light.

It's a lot of fun. My kids like it, and even got compliments from neighbors on the fun factor.

Don't be discouraged by the lack of app connectivity. To me it's a plus. It works without a fuss. Turn it on and it goes.

Great power, range, and features (Cruise control)

This new Hover-1 electric scooter model, the Blackhawk, is probably their best offering yet. It's not perfect, but is well worth the investment.

    Pros:

    - Multiple operation modes from beginner, to intermediate, to sport mode where you can let loose on the scooter's full capabilities.

    - Enough power to climb medium grade hills. Many electric devices can't even handle slight inclines. I was able to go up fairly steep gradients, at a slower speed, without issue.

    - Cruise Control! This will be your best friend on long rides, as holding down the accelerator can be straining over long distances.

    - Battery life seems great. I've been riding almost daily for over a week and have half power left from a full charge. The advertised range of 28 miles seems totally realistic. The advertised top speed of 18MPH is also easily reachable if not going uphill. I'm 185 pounds, but this model is rated to handle a load of 220 pounds.

    - Headlight and taillight for riding at dark!

    Cons:

    - Instructions were lacking. You can do basic set-up and get riding without issues. But there are sub-menus to access in order to do things like switch from Kph to Mph for the speedometer but no walk-through of how to do it is provided. It took trial and error.

    - The kickstand can be difficult to find blindly with your foot in a dark environment. But this can also be a plus as it won't get caught on things accidentally.

    - Online support is lacking. I had a couple basic questions to ask about the scooter but couldn't find the info I needed in the paperwork or on the website. This could be because the Blackhawk is a new model just getting released.

    - The biggest issue I had was a squealing sound coming from the rear tire. I was able to find some YouTube videos on my own and get the squeak to go away after improving the alignment of the caliper (pictured). I wasn't put off by this though, as you should be able to do basic/simple maintenance on bikes/scooters if you are going to own one.

Cons aside, this scooter is just a blast. The cost is reasonable for what you are getting as the scooter is solid, does what is says it will do, and really has the power you need for a fun day in the sun.

Fun, fast and long range all in one

If you want an electric scooter that can get you from point A to B and have fun while doing it, this is the one! On flat ground this thing is fast, Hover-1 shows 18 mph top speed. If the speedometer is correct, I’ve had it up to 27 mph on flat ground and I’m right @ the 220lbs weight limit. The scooter has three different power settings. Beginner, normal and sport, you definitely want to get use to it before using sport. With a range of up to 28 miles you can commute without range anxiety. The battery level is displayed on the bottom of the screen with 5 bars. My personal experience over two days of riding (I would estimate 8 miles) on flat and hilly surfaces the scooter still showed 3 bars. When riding at night the scooter has a nice (relatively) bright headlight and a brake light.

The scooter weighs in @ 33 lbs and folds up for transporting. One of the best features is the removable battery. This is a huge feature if you live in an apartment or high rise. You can leave your scooter in your vehicle and just bring the battery in to charge. The Blackhawk gives you long range green mobility and fun when you want to let your hair down!

    Impressive Electric Scooter

The Hover-1 Blackhawk Scooter has been a blast to use. It has amazing battery life and I've only needed to charge it once since I've had it! (About a week and a half with daily use). There are 3 modes, a beginner, intermediate and advanced. D is motorized but at a slower speed and recommended for most who just want a relaxing joy ride. Then there is S, sport mode, and here's where the real fun begins. It has a higher speed and takes a bit getting used to but is the main mode I use. I mainly ride the Hover-1 to close the gap between my car and my job. (I usually have to park far away). So this has made life so much easier. Its my first electric scooter and I'm beyond impressed. The headlight is a little dimmer than I'd like but it gets the job done at night and the break light shows drivers around me where i'm at. The throttle is located right on the handle bar so holding it down for a few seconds will automatically put the scooter in cruise and will go on its own! This makes longer rides a joy and very convenient. Overall it's a smooth and quiet scooter and very easy to handle. One last thing I'd like to mention is that the weight limit listed is 220 lbs and I weigh about 214 but was still able to reach a speed of 19 mph on a downhill slope which is more than fast enough! My only gripes are the kickstand can be hard to kick out and when in cruise mode just tapping the break can cause a slight jerk motion. That said I highly recommend this product and I absolutely love it!

    Fun Ride. Great Quality.

I've never owned or ridden an electric scooter, but have always been curious about them. With that said, I was anxiously awaiting to get the Hover-1 Blackhawk in my hands to try out. Wow. I was not expecting so much fun.

    BUILD QUALITY

Bigger, bulkier, and heavier than I expected. Not a bad thing. To me, it just means that it's sturdy. Materials seem durable and high-quality.

    RIDE QUALITY

Smoother than I expected. You have to kick to start and it picks up speed almost instantly. All you have to do is hold down the throttle to cruise and press it once for manual speed.

There are three drive modes: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. From what I can tell, it basically helps monitor how fast the scooter can go. If you are just starting out on this, like me, beginner mode is what you should leave it on.

While the scooter is rated at 18 MPH, I've noticed it reaching 19. Perhaps it has something to do with smooth surface and perhaps there was a slight decline in the elevation that I did not notice. Either way, the speed is adequate.

    AESTHETICS

Overall, this scooter looks great. I love the matte black look. While the baby blue is not my favorite color, it's not too much and it provides a nice little pop of color. There are both a headlight and taillight on the scooter. The taillight is perfect, but the headlight doesn't do much. Better than nothing I suppose.

The digital display on the handle bar is large and bright. You can easily see the speed, drive mode, and battery level. The user manual indicates that the display can show KMPH and MPH, but I cannot figure out how to change to MPH. Not really a big deal, but I would love to change it.

    OVERALL

I'm thoroughly impressed with the Hoover-1 Blackhawk electric scooter. From build quality to ride quality, it is a great scooter for getting around the neighborhood or riding just for fun.

    Great Scooter.

This scooter will not disappoint. Great speed and distance. I have no problem going up a long steep hill. I’m a female, 5’10”, 160 and feel very comfortable riding. Handle bars feel sturdy. Great tires and breaking system. Cruise control is an awesome feature. It does have front light and rear tail light which are enough for someone to see you but not bright enough to really see at night. I definitely recommend. I have rented several different ones in Atlant and this supersedes them all.

Way more fun then you think

This was my first scooter in 30 years. I’m a 40y/o dad and got this try and keep up with my daughter when she is wanting to use her scooter, skateboard, bike, running shoes or whatever. She’s 7 and I just can’t keep up with the fun stuff like I used to. After I bought this, I charged it up and took it for a test ride on my own and I can definitely say that within my first 5 seconds on it, I was definitely sold. It is so fun. It can keep up with my daughter just fine. At 15mph which a top speed for the Journey, the only thing we’ve tried that my daughter is faster than me is biking. She’s got a higher top speed, but can’t maintain it for long enough to completely lose sight of her. I’d thought 15mph was pretty lame, but on a scooter as an adult I have realized it’s pretty fast. I’ve crashed twice not paying attention and if I’m pretty sure adults shouldn’t be eating on scooters ever and if I had been going any faster then i’d have broke more than my pride. Neither crash so much as scratched my scooter. It’s extremely solid. Feels heavy duty and is definitely sized for an adult. The disc breaks and electronic brakes are very responsive. Everything about this performs as advertised except the distance and time you can travel per charge. It says 14 miles but that must be for my 7yr olds daughter that weighs 40 lbs. my fat butt is close to 200 lbs and lucky to get 5 miles, but it’s a really fun 5 miles. I ride this thing everyday now while my daughter travels on one of her things. The cruise control feature allows me to lock in at any speed she is traveling right down to 3mph which is what we did yesterday while she tried her first run at roller skates. I enjoy riding this thing so much that I ride it without her too. I’ve gone on nice bike trails by myself and it’s so nice to just cruise so smoothly, passing bikers here and there, and enjoy a ride. It’s virtually silent which is very peaceful and doesn’t make you stand out. I even run nearby errands on it when I don’t need to. Just rolling around like a creep with a beard on a scooter. Can’t help almost feeling like a hipster. My gf makes fun of me but it’s enough fun to not care. I highly recommend this thing. I’m 6 weeks in now and feel confident that I’ll continue to enjoy it. Love this Scooter! Zip Zip and Away!

We love this scooter! We were looking for a fun and easy way to get around and cruise the park and neighborhood since my kids outgrew their manual scooters. After spending time in San Diego, where my son rented an electric scooter to roam around the beach, we thought that electric scooters would be worth a try. The Hover-1 Journey was a good option for us to try out. It was large enough for adults – up to 220 pounds. After picking it up at the store, we opened the box and discovered that it is super easy to figure out. The assembly was simple and the quick start guide helped us understand the controls and display pretty easily. There is a brake, power function, LCD Display, throttle, and a cute little bell. Your speed displays on the LCD along with the battery power. There is also a headlight to use for safety and in the dark. The manual did call out safety items such as wearing a helmet and avoiding steep hills. The standard charger was really easy to attach and charged pretty quickly. Outside it was easy to learn to ride and zippy. It is both fun and practical to use. You simply use the handheld control to bring the scooter up to speed and you can engage cruise control for longer distances. I could easily cruise down the street to the gas station and back without incident. The top speed of 15 mph is sufficient to feel the breeze. It is really fun to ride! My daughter wants to take one to college now, so looks like we need to get another. I also packed it up for a weekend trip, and it folded up perfectly in my crossover – easy to collapse and assemble – two steps! It is a fun item to cruise around on outside on nice spring and summer days. I would recommend this to anyone looking to put a little zip in their step!

Hover-1 & Best Buy: All Kinds of Awesome

We bought this on Dec 11 for store pickup in 7-10 days; it was delayed though and we had to pick it up after Xmas. In early March, after light usage (my 14 yo used it on weekends, maybe 15 outings?) it ground gradually to a stop. The rear light was flashing, the display went blank and it would give a beep tone when the power button was pressed. Thought it needed charging (tho it had recently been charged); but that didn't help, the charging light remained green which we learned meant the battery was full and/or not being charged. We did some research for a week or so, how to reset it, etc, nothing helped: still unable to power on, just a high pitched tone when you press the power button. We then submitted a support ticket with Hover-1, they said nothing about how to fix the problem, only that the 90 day warranty expired Mar 11th sorry. While reporting the issue to Hover-1, I also discovered our model was H1-PNR, or the Hover-1 Pioneer, not the Journey which we ordered. Best Buy doesn't advertise the Pioneer so not sure how we ended up with that; it appears I was charged for the more expensive Journey model but given the Pioneer at pick up and didn't notice the difference. In any case, it doesn't work. So that's that I guess, there's my experience. Both have washed their hands of this poorly made non-functioning scooter precisely 90 days from when they charged me (not from when I took delivery); they booked revenue before Xmas, I didn't have a gift to give in time, then got a lesser model which crapped out in a couple of months with no recourse. Hover-1 and Best Buy make a pretty awesome combo

Reliable transportation for my 15yr old

First off I have to say this scooter has been a god send for me transportation-wise with my teenager. Now my 15 yr old can go to any friends house or park across town without me having to provide a ride or waiting on me to pick him up once I'm out of work. Which is great because I work 10-hour shifts!! He is 119lbs and he zips by in a flash, has great speed going up hills, love that this has a light on the front and backlight for cars to see him while riding at night. This even has a horn lol!! This scooter came in 4 days with no damage even came almost charged. It's a little heavy but nothing an average person can't handle. I read all the reviews and I was a little skeptical however I kept in mind everyone has their own opinion and I'm so happy I decided to give this a chance. Still works great after a month of using this and the battery still performs just like it did after the very first charge. If he rides about 4 hours straight he's down to 2 or 1 bars of battery life left. Keep in mind the more you weigh the shorter the battery life. I have no complaints... The only complaint I have is with myself for not thinking of this sooner. It's truly a great buy and rides smoothly. You won't be disappointed!!

Durable and solid tires hard to put air in

The scooter is durable and solid my whole family has one. Bought it for one kid liked it so much bought it for the family. It is a little heavy so not appropriate for really young kids. I like the flashlight feature the fact that you can see where the battery is it doesn't take long to charge it's not hard to put together.

Great scooter and no more need for rental scooter!

First off, the scooter shipped extremely fast and we received it quicker than expected. Thanks to the durable box it comes in (as you can see in the picture), there is no need to waste additional material shipping it inside of an additional shipping box.

Now to speak about the scooter itself, there is no uphill battle when riding this scooter. As described, this scooter has no issue climbing steep hills. As long as you are following the city laws, this scooter provides a feeling of safety and fun all in one. Would recommend for a beginner or experienced scooter rider. Can't wait to explore more on my scooter.

    There are design flaws

The scooter is fun and helps save a lot of money on gas. But Hover has a MAJOR DESIGN FLAW. For the neck to break down is cool for it to lock to the back of the scooter cool. But U can’t have that kind of pressure on hard plastic. The 1st one and the second one broke in the same spot. Now the second one they charged the overall design of the scooter and made it better but the second coming out of the box I had to do some fixing on it. The break pad was too far out which dragged on the break disc. Then with the second one once I reach the top of this slop it dies on me even tho the battery is only missing 1 bar. It will turn back on but does this at least 3/5 times I go that way on that street why no clue it just does it. So I will be taking this scooter back again and adding yet another Geek Squad protection plan.

    Great for a lightweight beginner

The experience on this scooter will vary by weight. I am within a hair’s breadth of its weight capacity while my wife is well below it at ~145. Our experiences differ quite a bit and I will save you reading if you are around the 260 mark, don’t buy it. On a full battery I can get about 12 mph out of it, by the time I go a mile I am down to 4 mph with a bar left on the battery; that is with helping it like a regular scooter up any sort of hill. This is to contrast my wife zipping up that same hill at 11mph. As a side note, if you are my weight class and are looking for a scooter make sure you are looking at the motor size and battery Ahr; that will tell you the potential experience better than the weight limit. With a 300W motor and a 4Ahr battery this just won’t give you the experience you are hoping for. I have a 750W electric one wheeled scooter that moves me up and down hills extremely well.

So, if you are a more normal weight this scooter works decently. If you are on the lighter side (~150lbs) this scooter zips around nicely.

I am not a giant fan of iridescent, it looks cool, it’s just too shiny for me, however, to contrast this my wife absolutely loves the color of the scooter as it is a rainbow of colors as the sun hits in at different angles. I am almost 6’ and my wife is 5’8” both of us have zero issue with the height of the non-height adjustable handlebars. The ride is a little bumpy this is expected with 6.5” airless tires. I took this into gravel for about two seconds before I determined this is a sidewalk/street use scooter, this should already be clear just looking at it.

I did not like the brake at first, but now I love it. It is extremely sensitive and the first time I used it at a decent speed I thought I was going to fly over the handlebars (probably should have tried it at a slower speed first) the break is electronic and uses the motor to slow you down. The advantage to this is that the brake should not wear down. The disadvantage is that it is a front wheel drive vehicle and braking hard with your front tire can be a recipe for disaster. This is offset by the fact that the foot brake is still available use. Using them together allows you to stop safely and extremely fast. So overall after a little getting used to them, I think that the brakes deserve five stars

The foot brake also doubles as the release for when you fold the scooter in half. This is bar far one of the firmest foldable scooters I have used. Most have a slight wobble in the bar but this one is solid. Not only that but it is simple to release and latch in place.

I have mentioned looks a little bit, but I figure this might be worth mentioning too, it does not look like an electric scooter from first glance. Most electric scooters have an extremely thick base. This base is not much thicker than a traditional scooter so if you are looking for something that does not scream electric scooter this might be the one for you. The disadvantage of this is that it has a shorter range. Six miles max is absolute max. I think my wife might be able to get closer to 6 miles on it if she were willing to try to go that far, for her six miles is plenty, more than she would ever need; for someone like me, I can barely get a mile out of it. This really is not surprising as most ranges are optimistic, and weight plays a large factor into range.

I am glad I did not write my review after the first day with this scooter as it really grows on you. No, it is not the best scooter out there, but at the same time the price point of this scooter should already say that loud and clear. The real question is this worth buying. If you found yourself in my camp in this review that I would say absolutely not; if you found yourself in my wife’s camp, absolutely worth considering.

    Pros:

    • Colorful

    • Braking system

    • Thin base

    • Easy to use controls

    • Rock solid folding bar

    • Cruise control

    Cons:

    • Cruise control is unreliable at higher weights

    • Lower range

    • Motor does not have a lot of instant torque (might be a pro depending on who it is for)

    • Upper end of weight limit spec is too high (in my opinion)

    • Push to start

If you're the right weight it's excellent

This is a tough product to review. As I think the specs and who they recommend it for could be improved making their customers happier. Mostly regarding their weight requirement which effects the entire device. They report it has a max weight of 265 lbs. While this is accurate, I think the ideal weight for this product is ~ 150 lbs. with a max of <180 lbs. As I believe anything >180 lbs. taxes the internal components too much causing it to break earlier than it would, burn through the battery quicker, make it more difficult to maintain the correct speeds, and reduce the expected distance. I weigh 203 lbs. and my first one broke in the first day after using it for about 30 – 45 minutes where the device just refused to stay powered on, along with some other issues, so I had to get a replacement. With my original one that broke I found the battery went from full (100%) to (0%) after riding 1.29 miles on the first speed setting averaging about 10 mph. Then I charged it and went to use it again and it wouldn’t power on. The second one was like a completely different device as it moved easier with less resistance (with just regular pushing), didn’t grind when accelerating, accelerated easier and maintained speeds better, letting off the accelerator didn’t kick nearly as much, the electronic brake wasn’t as violent in stopping power, and the battery was a lot more accurate. I did the same 1.29 loop and I only lost a single battery out of four. It is a lot of fun to just get on and go and the price point is very competitive if you hit the weight requirements correctly. The overall build quality feels great, but I’m still concerned about the internals. But this second model makes me less concerned as it sounds and feels more solid.

    PROS:

    - Great paint job

    - Product feels heavy and well made structurally. But I am concerned about the internals of the device. Especially, as you push past that 180 lbs. mark.

    - 2 speeds (~10 mph and ~15 mph).

    - Wide base to stand on

    - Front headlight works well. Can turn on/off. Flashing working taillight when using electric brake.

    - Kick stand works well.

    - Can fold up for easy carrying/storing. Weight is easy to manipulate.

    - Max weight of 265 lbs. But I would recommend max being 180 lbs. with ideal being around 120 – 160 lbs.

    - Puncture proof tires.

    - Electric brake is very responsive and works great. I worry about longevity. But may have been from my defective first unit. As the second unit feels a lot better built.

    - Controls are easy and intuitive. Accelerator on the right handle, electric brake on left which flashes rear taillight. Rear is were manual break is. Kickstand on the left front of the device. Charger port is under the screen slightly left of center. On the bottom of the screen is on/off/turn on/off headlight, and switch modes.

    - LCD screen is easy to read in sunlight.

    CONS:

    - No built-in shocks which leads to a bumpy rough ride with minimal clearance. So, need to be aware when riding.

    - Back brake is mostly plastic and doesn’t work great

    - Electric braking is significant causing you to lurch forward and I worry about the wear and tear of it. But it works very well. Does turn off at about 2 mps so you don’t come to a full screeching stop.

    - 1st speed of 10 mph is accurate and attainable on flat surfaces and very mild inclines. 2nd speed reaches about 13 – 14 mph at 203 – 208 lbs. unless in a perfectly flat and smooth environment or slight decline. Also, chews through the battery a lot faster. Does not work on moderate hills and requires you to push. Low inclines dramatically reduce speed.

    - Slight jerkiness if you don’t stay on the accelerator.

    - Charge time is long at 5 hours. But I do like the charger goes from red when charging to green when charged. Battery seems to last a while.

    - Handlebar is at a fixed height and can’t be adjusted and is rather high. Screw in handles can loosen while riding.

    CONCLUSION:

I believe this is a highly weight dependent device where the lighter weight you are the better it will perform and the longer the device will work. If you are >180 lbs. I do NOT recommend it as I think it is too taxing to the internals which causes it to break prematurely. But completely recommend it if you are under that. I am concerned about the internals holding up over time. But tend to believe that the reason so many of these have broken are due to incorrect weight usage (according to my specs not theirs) over a poor design. But it’s likely a bit of both which leaves me on the fence. As this is a lot of fun to ride around on and comes in at a low price (compared to other scooters). But also seems like a flip of a coin if you will get a good or bad unit coupled with being very weight dependent.

Awesome Paint Job - Fun Scooter

The Hover-1 Aviator is a foldable electric scooter that comes in 3 different color schemes – mine is the Iridescent. The scooter comes in the box mostly assembled – loose items are the handlebars, an allen wrench for adjustments, and the charger. The specs on the scooter are a 15mph top speed with a max 7 miles of range. There is a supported weight range of 44-264lbs. The scooter uses a 320W brushless motor, and weighs 21lbs. The wheels on the scooter are non-pneumatic rubber tires that are puncture proof but provide a harsher ride over bumps.

My first impression pulling the scooter out of the box was it felt heavy – in a good way. It didn’t feel light and cheap like my kids’ Razer scooters. My next thought was being surprised at how cool the paint job looked. The pictures on the listing don’t do the paint job any justice – it’s a real head turner. It reminds me of the pearlescent paint jobs I used to put on my cars in the original Need For Speed Underground (2003 PS2 – 18yrs ago ugghh). Once pulled out of the box I had to install the handlebars – there is a left and right version with opposite threading from each other. The front of the handlebar post has an LED front light for any low light riding. Next to the right handle is the throttle (black thumb lever). Next to the left handle is the electric brake (red thumb lever). The rear wheel has a fender cover with an integrated brake light. The light flashes while braking, and at night when the headlight is activated the light is steadily lit while riding. The fender doubles as the manual brake – exactly like the brake on a Razer scooter. Instructions said to charge it to full before first use, so I tossed it on the charger.

In between the handlebars is the display and power button. Powering on the scooter requires holding the power button for a few seconds. Once it powers up you can see your speed display, your power modes, headlight status, and cruise control engagement. There are 2 power modes – P1 and P2. P1 is lower powered with the top speed limited to around 9mph. P2 allows you to access the max speed of the scooter. When switching power modes you are supposed to bring the scooter to a stop before making the change. The change is made by pressing the power button once while the scooter is already on. Double clicking the power button while the scooter is on activates the headlight. To engage the cruise control is honestly a bit tricky and really poorly explained by the manual. You need to be going at least 3mph or more before engaging it. You do so by getting up to the speed you want, very quickly releasing the throttle, and then double tapping the throttle all/part of the way down to engage the cruise control. It takes some practice to get it right, but it’s a nice feature if you are going on a long cruise.

The charger plugs into a port with a rubber cap near the top of the handlebar post. There is a small light on the charger – it is red when charging and changes to green once the battery is topped off. Charging from a fully drained battery only seemed to take about 4-5 hours.

Before riding you have to unfold and lock in the handlebar tower. This is pretty easy, albeit confusing the first time. You have to fully stand the tower up into the riding position. Then you have to flip the little latch up and snap it into the notch. It should make a good click noise once the latch is engaged. The fold back up you have to rotate the little blue safety catch on the latch before popping it free. When folding down you hook the top of the handlebar into the rear wheel fender – you have to press the fender down for the hook on the handlebar to slip into the pocket on the fender. Once it slides into the pocket you can release the fender and pickup the scooter.

Riding the Aviator comes with several restrictions that you need to be aware of. The manual outlines these pretty well. Riding the scooter should be carried out on smooth dry surfaces (no wet streets or rain rides), avoid bumps/curbs/cracks that are taller then ½”, temperature extremes (below 32° and about 104°), and low light/visibility conditions. The manual also states to avoid sand, gravel, mud, debris (sticks), or other rugged terrain. Most of these are pretty easy to follow, but finding smooth pavement that completely free of cracks, bumps, debris, gravel, and hills is easier said than done.

The experience and performance of the scooter is directly related to the weight of the rider and the terrain you ride on. I wanted to get a range of data on the Aviator in terms of rider experience. I had myself (190lbs), GF (130lbs), and her teenagers (170lbs and 100lbs) all take turns and go for rides. Me being the heaviest went the slowest. On a freshly charged battery the first few minutes of the ride I could hit a max of 13mph on a flat surface, and 15mph on a slight decline. A slight incline would drop me to 11 or 12. After about 3-4 minutes of riding my max speed settled back to 12mph on flat, and an incline knocked me down to 9 or 10. I call this early part of the battery charge the boost period. The other riders faired better. My GF could hit 15 on a flat with a fresh battery before settling back to 13 after 5-6 minutes. Inclines were at 11 for her. Declines she could hit 14-15 without much hassle. The heavier teen was closer to my results with just a little longer boost period. Their result on inclines was slightly better as well. The lightest teen had it the best. Boost time lasted the longest (6-7 minutes). They could hit the top speed of 15 for much longer and the slight incline would just barely knock them down (13-14). You do deal with battery fade towards the end of the charge – it’s the opposite of the boost period. The last 15-20% of the battery you are going slower and having a harder time with inclines. On flat ground this isn’t as much of an issue because I could still hit 10mph, but it was noticeably fading. Its time to charge at this point.

The Aviator struggles with hills. If you are trying to go up a steep hill you are absolutely going to chew through more battery life, and you are going to slow way down. The Aviator doesn’t have a lot of torque that can handle this situation. For me if my speed dropped below 7mph then I would consider pushing if I still had a lot of hill to go up. In most of these cases I treated the electric motor as a hill climb assist. I could kick/push along while the motor helps me maintain momentum. I went up several 2-3 block long decent hill climbs like this, and it wasn’t an issue for me.

I avoided most of the riding conditions that the manual tells you to stay away from. Some small gravel, stones, sticks, and bumps just couldn’t be avoided. I did my best to avoid any big bumps though, and I doubt I attempted to cross over anything more than ¾”. Any big bumps I slowed way down for or avoided all together – the ones I didn’t avoid were ones I didn’t see coming. I did do some night time rides around my neighborhood. I only did this because there is very little traffic and I know the street well enough to be able to avoid bumps/cracks/gravel. I rode with the headlight only the first time, but I found it to be a little lacking for my taste. The light does a nice job of lighting up 15ft ahead of you, but I wanted a little more range so I wore a camping headlamp as well. This combo worked out and I felt pretty comfortable riding at night. The reflector stickers on the scooter work alright, but you really need to have something reflective on if you want to take this out in the dark.

Most of my trips were short runs from my house to my GF’s which is just a 6 block trip. The scooter was great for this, but it didn’t give me any insight to the overall range. I took the Aviator for a long ride – 4.5miles round trip to a gas station that included several hills to see what its max range would be for me on it. I set off with a freshly charged battery, and I zipped through my neighborhood streets. I rode down the sidewalk for most of the trip. I had to be careful here because several areas of the sidewalk had some upheaval due to tree roots causing taller bumps I had to avoid. I made the trip without any issue – I did have to kick up the hills since they were long and steep. I was left with about 30%+ of my battery.

A couple of things to note. Using the electric brake is a weird experience because you feel yourself really lurch forward as you apply the brake – much like using the front brakes on your bike but even more pronounced. It also can’t bring you to a complete stop, but it can knock you down to about 2mph before it stops activating. For complete stops use the manual brake. The brakes are also not super effective, so your braking distance from speed is longer than expected unless you use both at the same time. Also, when the battery gets low enough you can no longer apply the throttle, but you can still brake. Another thing to note is if you just want to kick around and not use the motor you can’t turn the scooter off while in motion. You have to come to a complete stop before you can power down the scooter. Lastly the handlebar post is a fixed height. I can’t imagine someone much below 5’ being able to easily or safely ride the scooter.

Riding the scooter around is very enjoyable, and I really didn’t have many complaints. If I was a lighter person I would have even more fun because I could go faster and inclines wouldn’t dig at me as much. The paint job is amazing looking and really is something to stare at – unfortunately it also really shows fingerprints, so you need to wipe it down every so often.

I ride this everywhere!! Best value for money!

As a college student, I have always been hesitant about the idea of getting an electric scooter. I see them all around on campus and have wanted to invest in one for a long time but, after looking at prices, deem them way too expensive and not worth it. That was until I came across this really affordable option and decided to try it out. And since that moment, I have never looked back.

This scooter has truly been one of the best tech products I have gotten this year. The Hover-1 Aviator electric scooter is fast, fun, super affordable, and has been by my side every single place I've gone since getting it. I've used it for quick trips to the grocery store, getting to class, and rushing to meetings. It has such great features that really make this one of the best purchases you can get as a college student.

    Unboxing and Setup -

Everything came in one box and the instructions were super easy to follow. You just have to screw on the handlebars and that's it! You can't get any simpler than that. I easily set this up and was ready to scoot off within 5 minutes.

    Features:

Speed, Range, and specs - The Hover-1 Aviator Electric Scooter has a top speed of 15mph and a range of 7 miles on a full charge. This has been super fast and the perfect speed that I need to get around campus and the range provides me enough mileage to travel around campus each and every day.

Braking - The brakes consist of the back wheel brake for gradual braking and the front red lever brake for quick stopping. I would advise you to use the back brake most of the time to gradually slow your speed as the front brakes can be very sudden and you might fall off by braking too fast. I highly recommend you wear a helmet when traveling at fast speeds on roads.

Headlight - This scooter comes with a LED headlight you toggle on and off by double-pressing the power button. It works but it's not that bright. It helps for others to recognize you but if you want to look much more clearly in the dark, you might want to think about installing an add-on headlight.

Dashboard - The dashboard is super intuitive and shows you your speed and which power mode you are in. Very easy to understand!

Auto-cruise option - The auto-cruise option is hit-and-miss. I don't know how and when it turns on but sometimes it turns on automatically when I don't want it to when traveling at consistent slower speeds of ~2mph and other times it turns on and just provides me with a nice break from pushing on the accelerator. You'll know it turns on when you hear a sound it plays and can be stopped by pressing down on the front brake. The feature is there, but I just wouldn't really rely on it if you're looking for a true auto-cruise scooter.

Kick-stand - The kickstand is REALLY helpful to just kick it out and let to scooter be! It holds the scooter's weight and more when being used and can be kicked back in easily. I love this nice addition!

Folding - The folding and hinge lock system is nice as it makes the scooter super portable and easy to take into class with me. When I need to go back on the scooter, I just simply put the lock back on the hinge and I'm good to go. I had trouble with the hinge lock at first where it kept unclicking mid-ride but I suddenly no longer have that problem and it can now survive a good number of bumps in the road without unlocking!

Color - The color on this scooter is beautiful and so different from all other scooters out there. You will get so many people complimenting your scooter every single day.

Price - The price just CANNOT be beaten on this thing. It is absolutely amazing and so worth it if you're considering getting an electric scooter for college or for personal use but don't want to spend too much. It's the perfect way to travel around college and I've never looked back after getting it!

My only knock is the Range

Received as part of the BestBuy Tech Insider network.

Brought back nostaglic vibes from the old kick style Razor scooters that were every where in the early 2000s of my childhood. Now it's easier and faster to enjoy. The first day I got it after setup, I went zipping around my apartment complex with it. It took a second to relearn my balance and the scooter's limits but after almost 20 yrs, I was zooming.

It has 2 modes (one limits to about 9 mph, the other kicks it up to 15 mph), headlight, taillight and reflectors to for safety. The wheel/tire combo (pneumatic?) is okay, a little small and not very comfy on bad pavement/sidewalks. The brakes are good and if you smash on them your body can keep going while the scooter stops, so be careful.

The only downsides are wheel/tires as mentioned before and the miniscule range. I would have liked to see around 10 miles of range, but compared to some others I saw in the price range it's competitive as it provides a more accommodating weight range up to 264 lbs vs 220 lbs.

Overall, it's fun and perfect for my need of making a trip to the apartment complex mailbox, and a couple locations I frequent close by.

    Poor Customer Support

Pretty good scooter for beginners, top speed is 15 but mostly 9-11mph in reality. Very sturdy, goes over lots of bumps on the sidewalk. BIGGEST PROBLEM - the power starting cutting out while accelerating on full battery! Best Buy referred me to the company - I’m still waiting for Customer Support!

    Can’t get wet…at all!

This scooter couldn’t stand up to any water. DO NOT let your kids ride this after it has rained outside! With just the smallest amount of water on the road after a recent rain, the scooter shut off while my son was riding and will not power back on.

Decent scooter with a few quirks

I have rode many different electric scooters and they are always so fun. I was super excited to receive the Hover 1 and put it through the paces to see how it stacks up against other electric scooters.

I would like to start off talking about build quality. The first thing is the color. The iridescent color makes it stand out in a crowd and definitely gets people looking. I personally think the color looks awesome. Only thing to beware is that it is a finger print magnet but you can only tell if you look up close. One thing that I really like is that this can easily hold a full size adult but it is on the lighter and compact side. This comes in handy if you plan to commute with it, carry it, or simply kick like a regular scooter. It also folds easily and has a latch to hold it all together. When you take it out of the box you have to put on the handle bars. This is my first major gripe about the scooter. Since they twist on clockwise there were a few time that while holding onto them they twisted lose.

Next I would like to talk about handling. The scooter has two ride modes and in the faster one it tops out at 15 mph. 15mph is on the slower side but it is plenty fast. The only issue is that the scooter only does 15 mph in ideal conditions. It must be a flat or down hill surface, and battery must be charged up. With two bars still left on the battery meter I was only able to get about 10 mph. The scooter also accelerates on the slow side. It can take quite a bit of time to get up to the 15 mph top speed from a stand still. For being such a light weight scooter the ride is not bad. It has plenty of room to stand on it and even going over smaller bumps is not bad at all. It has two types of brakes. One is using the motor to brake which works great unless you are on a large hill. It will slow you down but not really bring you to a fast stop. However, the brake on the back tire works great too. The last thing is hills or even small inclines. It does not like them at all. A smaller hill it will slow down to about 4-5 mph if you are lucky. But most hills I was not able to make it up without pushing.

I would like to discuss is the technology. I would say it is not very advance in this front. I could not find any app for connecting the scooter which was kind of a disappointment. The screen on the scooter doesn’t offer a whole lot of information besides speed, mode, if the headlight is on, and cruise control. One thing that disappointed me was that the speedometer would top out. In the slower mode it topped out at 9-10 mph even going down a hill at a much faster speed. Same with the faster mode the Speedo would not show over 15mph even when going faster down hill. The addition of a front headlight and rear brake light worked well. The headlight is not the brightest but it definitely works and at least allows others to see you in the dark. I was surprised that this scooter had cruise control. The only downside is that activating it can be kind of tough and since you have to use the throttle to activate i could never get it to activate at full speed.

Last thing i will mention is range and charging. Range is on the low side but i seemed to get the rated 6-7 mile range which i would say is decent. The only thing is that when the battery started to get on the lower side the top speed decreased significantly. Charging takes 5+ hours which i think is normal for scooters but I also feel like it is on the slower side since the range is so short.

Unfortunately, this scooter did not impress me all that much. It is not that bad but it is also not that great. I wanted to use it for commuting around the city too and from work but with short range, lower speeds, and very slow acceleration it is hard to recommend. However, for just having fun a round your neighborhood or for teenagers i still think it might be worth the buy since it is on the cheaper end of electric scooters.

Not worth it unless you paid $30 bucks.

Unfortunately, this thing did not last 4 months riding on paved asphalt. My kid weighed under 60 lbs and did no tricks and his wheel became unwelded inside the shaft. Caused him to wreck and get hurt. 2 months in his cover on the brake snapped off and now this. Stay away from this cheap (covid-19) quality product.
