    Fun!

Great speakers! I use them strapped to the top of my golf carts for surround speakers at summer pool parties. The automobile finish blends right in with my Bentley Golf Carts paint job. I marked the ease of use down a little because of the weight. A little hard to put on top. I have got to go and do some day trading to help pay for the speaker cable to run to these. Have a nice day.

    Choices are good.

This speaker sounds amazing. But in the end, at my age, I can't tell the difference between that, and the one in my new Toyota Highlander! They both cost the same. But I thing the Highlander had more to offer.

Beautifully Designed, Love the Ferrari Red (Rosso Fuoco) Extremely well Packaged, larger than expected, the Woofer Addition adds an enormous amount of bass, the very large sound stage and overall I would recommend these speakers to anyone who wants sound and style.

Upgraded from the ESL model. After the break in period, they sound fantastic. The powered bass drivers are amazing, no doubt aided by the ARC equalization. Overall bigger soundstage, excellent clarity and balance. Driving with a Parasound A23 that has 125 wpc at 8ohms, 225wpc at 4ohms. More than enough power since woofers are powered. Loving the musicality.

Great Speakers: Not Just in Their Price Range

I’ve had my MartinLogan Motion 60XTi towers for one month, and I enjoy them more each time I listen to them. They play well with my Marantz SR6012 AV receiver (dual amped). Their mirror-perfect gloss black finish hints at the quality inside and makes them a beautiful addition to my listening space. While I’ve not yet fully calibrated my system, I’m impressed with the accuracy and clarity of the high and mid frequencies and, on the other end, the depth and tightness of the lows. This is true both for music and surround-sound movies. Perceived speaker quality is, of course, the product of many variables, not least of which are personal taste and the acoustics of the listening space in which the speakers are used. I found the many written reviews and online video tutorials on the ML line very helpful regarding those factors. If you are considering these speakers, I recommend you include at least one subwoofer in your system (I have two, one of which is a ML model). Note also that the speakers are nominally rated at 4 Ohms. For most users, this won’t likely matter, but check your AV receiver or amplifier user manual to be sure.

    MartinLogan Motion 60XTi

This is a very nice upgrade from my old Definitive Tech BP7001SC main speakers. The BP7001SC were a top-of-the line DefTech speaker. Each BP7001SC has a built-in 10 inch powered sub.

But, the MartinLogan 60XTi are definitely an upgrade. The MLs have tighter more controlled bass. The ML high end is very smooth and articulate. And the most obvious difference is the much better stereo imaging produced by the MLs.

I am driving the MLs with a Krell KAV250a amp. The KAV250a has no problem with the 4 ohm load of the MLs. Krell is known for its awesome bass. And, with the DefTechs, I was losing some of the Krell's bass production due to the powered sub of the DefTechs.

Considering that the MLs are actually a little cheaper than the original price of the BP7001SC, the MLs are a real bargain for someone looking to upgrade.

Great but test before you take home

I love the Martin Logan set that I bought that includes 60XTs for the front, 50 XT Center, 800X subwoofer, and ER series for surround and back surround.

However, one of the 60XTs had a non functioning tweeter and mid range driver and its taken more that 5 weeks for the geek squad to repair it. I have not yet gotten it back, but want to caution customers that you should have the speakers tested in store before you take them home.

I've scored quality as a 3 because of this.

    Amazing Sound - Questionable Longevity

First off - these speakers sound amazing. I am not an audiophile, but I was going between purchasing some floor standing speakers and then adding (2) subwoofers, or just purchasing these towers with the integrated subs.

I went to BBY and listened to all the different independent subwoofers in the store, and while they were "okay", none of the options blew me away. Then I went into the room with the Def Tech speakers, and we watched the same movie clip with the BP9080x tower speakers, and the decision was made instantly. The subs sounded signifcantly deeper, as well as more balanced than any of the individual subwoofers, and the comparison was not even close. The Def Techs sound 2X better, easy.

I pulled the trigger, and took them home. Set them up into my home theater, and they sound amazing. The bass is off the charts, to the point that I get in trouble each time I from the neighbor when I watch an action movie, as it shakes their entire wall of their house! I have the subs at 20%, but if you crank them to 40% (or 50% if you're crazy), they will seriously shake your entire house! I cannot believe the amount of bass these things kick out.

    Now the bad...

The automatic turn on of the subwoofer amplifiers are a horrible idea. When i turn on a movie, the subs won't turn on unless there is a powerful enough signal, I have to turn the volume up to a level where it recognizes the bass, then sometimes 1, sometimes both of the subs will come on. Then about 2 seconds after the subs turn on, a big "THUMP" happens EVERY TIME! The only way to avoid this that I've found is to have a separate surge protector with only the towers hooked up to it, and then power the surge protector on before every movie. This turns the subs on with no signal, prevent the big "thump" noise.

Then, after watching a movie, the subs remain on for about 10-15 minutes, but when the amps turn off, the big "Thump" occurs again. It is so distasteful that I stopped using the speakers for half a year because it sounds so bad. I called Def Tech and told them the issue, but they wouldn't even hear me out - they simply sent me a new amplifier in the mail and said that will fix the issue. NOTE - both towers do this, so I will have to write Def Tech back and request another amp, one for each tower to fix this issue (if this truly is the problem). If it is the problem, what are the chances both towers would be defective?

I purchased the center speaker as well, the CS9080, and that speaker has some issues occurring as well, so I'm losing faith in Def Tech's quality. The sound is amazing, but not sure they are using quality parts, or the sourcing partners have some serious quality control issues.

If I were to go back in time, despite the Def Techs sounding incredible (from a bass perspective), I think I'd avoid getting integrated subwoofers, and just get a pair of quality KEF Q-series, or some nice B&W's, and then pair with a couple SVS subwoofers and call it a day. Non-powered speakers should last FOREVER, so by removing the weak link (amplifier in integrated sub), you remove the one potential issue you could have.

I have a full Def Tech setup, BP9080x towers, CS9080 center, and the 9080 surrounds, and they sound great, but for all the stress they've caused me with quality issues, I'd avoid.

At first I was looking to install in-wall speakers but after testing the Definitive Technology towers versus in-wall speakers I was immediately convinced, the clear voice and deeper sound you get is outstanding, great product for the price.

    Tremendous Engineering

Alright, being a proud owner of a pair of high end bookshelf speakers,( AR-11), which boast the best quality bass reproduction for it's time, (mid- 70's) I was sceptical about a set of towers replacing and out performing them. I got the usual demonstration in the listening room at the Magnolia section of the store and was impressed enough to purchase a pair. Originally planned to have these in my bedroom but on a whim I moved them to my living room while moving my AR's into the bedroom. The 9020's have soared in the living room, you can see how far apart they are in the photo, but clarity, separation, and excellent bass response are mine. So much so when playing CD's, Streamer, analog phono, or xbox I have to limit their use to when my neighbor isn't home or is at work. These are more than capable of absorbing power from that Carver 2000 reciever with the 200 watt per channel amplifier. I just finished listening to Genesis and Tears For Fears and have marveled at how a self powered sub-woofer with an 8-inch driver can outperform the 12 inch drivers in the AR's but it does. Wether listening to music or soundtracks in Blu Ray or HD Tv, sound reproduction is outstanding. And I bought the smaller towers not the larger ones.

    Great speakers

Bought these to replace a sound bar and it’s definitely night and day difference. The intergrated subwoofer definitely adds substantial bass to home theater and making these more portable and flexible for systems that doesn’t require any separate subwoofer. Movies have an immersive sound stage and music plays clear. I have these setup with the CS 9060 and A90 atmos topper and it’s works perfect with my setup. I have these running in a 3.1.2 configuration and I am happily satisfied with the sound stage. These are bi pole speakers and will create a larger image to any room. I would recommend buying these if it’s on sale that way you can buy the atmos speaker to complete the setup. Great performance for the price.

    Great sound

These are fine speakers at full price. But value wise on sale is the way to go. Can't imagine better sub 1k sound in a tower. Using the lfe connection though not the "recommended" option absolutely gives more than enough space to fill a good sized room.
