Good Camera for My Virtual Class

I bought this as an upgrade for my virtual classroom. I teach science and I want a quality camera for demonstrations. This has worked great. I left a picture taken from the camera so anyone can get a feel for the quality.

Clear and Cheap. Great for Streamers/Youtubers

This Camera is just wonderful. It allows for a crisp, clean and clear image rendering. It has mutiple options for recording in all your needs whether that be 720p/30fps/60fps or 1080p/30fps. If your a streamer or Starting out youtube like me I would suggest this camera as great equipment to get you started. For just $100!!!

    Good camera for wfh needs

Bought this as a lot of other people because I work from home and attend a billion zoom calls.

I would say the quality is superior to any built in laptop camera. I has some trouble with brightness and focus every now and then. Pretty solid plug and play camera otherwise.

    Awesome Single Camera Streaming/Recording System

The Mevo Start is a great entry level camera for live streaming and/or recording your events. It is intended to be a single camera operation and does well in providing a maximum amount of versatility. All configuration and live use is done through an app on your phone or tablet. I would recommend a tablet, especially during live use when streaming or recording. The larger screen size makes it easier. The ability to zoom into a portion of the screen and move and resize live is really great. Make it feel like you have multiple cameras or a PTZ camera. The options for sound are great. Allowing you to use the built in microphone, connect to external sound source, and even use a phone as mic. You can easily monitor and adjust incoming and outgoing sound level.

It is not hard to learn how to use. I do recommend you spend some time playing with it, especially in the setting you will be using. You can then set some of the parameters like max zoom size to fit with what you are doing.

Setup takes a little getting used to. But once you figure it out it is a snap. The Mevo can connect to your phone or tablet via WiFi, hotspot, or blue tooth for setup. The camera works well with WiFi alone and if you wireless network is good you should not have any issues. There is an optional ethernet adapter that is PoE capable. I use the ethernet adapter to guarantee the best network connection for the Mevo and to keep wireless bandwidth free for other use.

The Mevo Start can also be an NDI-HX video source and works well with OBS.

My only regret is that I did not find it sooner.

this camera solved all the issues we had at church trying to stream our Sabbath services, it is all we really need for a small budget and a small church to stream services to our brethren through Facebook Live and there are other services available you can stream to at the same time this little camera does things 4or5 grand cameras do one or two small things you just have to work with but other than those small things you can't go wrong with this camera

The Best Solution for Small Streamers

I absolutely love this camera! We have been using it for a couple of months now. I am a pastor of a small church, and I am able to run this stream and monitor it on the fly while I preach! The auto-pilot setting is like having someone on camera, changing up shots and keeping things interesting-zooming in and out. It will actually follow the face of the person speaking, so if I walk around or go to the piano it will follow me there. It has a very wide field of view. The picture itself is very clean and defined. The audio is amazing, it sounds like an external mic. For a small church or organization, you cannot beat the Mevo Start for a quality live stream or recording. Also-I highly recommend the Mevo stand that is made for this. You can use other tripods, etc but it is very well built and adds a lot of versatility to the camera-definitely worth the extra money to get the one built for it.

There are lots of good tutorials online. My training was to get in a room for a couple of hours and practice streaming. Record , watch learn, modify. It's all very intuitive but there are a couple of options and features to learn.

Great webcam for its price range

This is a great webcam for this price range. I ordered this as well as Logitech C922 and liked the Razer much more from every aspect! The video quality is great and the ring light really helps with low-light setting. The only catch is you have to be close to the camera otherwise the light doesn’t really do anything.

I’ve had some minor issues with the autofocus feature and had to unplug the camera and plug it back in to get it to work, but besides that, I’m very happy with the purchase

Perfect for Streaming, Zoom, College Life!

This Razer Kiyo webcam is excellent at what it does at a super reasonable price point! For context, I'm a college student that does at least 3 Zoom classes in a week, and many meetings for work. I needed a webcam that was high-quality with both video and sound, and could compensate for the poor lighting I sometimes get as a result of having north-facing windows. This webcam exceeded my expectations! I've even used it for video projects in my classes and the quality of the video and sound is phenomenal. It's easy to use and the Razer software makes it easy to adjust all the settings to your liking. Would highly recommend to anyone that likes streaming as a hobby or does a lot of Zoom meetings!

Great webcam when you have good lighting

Great webcam but the autofocus tends to lose focus and refocus frequently. I suspect it's from the lighting, so it's not a huge issue. The webcam does have its own light and is sufficient enough to show your face in a dark setting.

The set up is easy, you just plug it in and it's ready to go with optional programs it offers from razer. The cord is durable and braided and it's not flimsy. The picture quality is awesome! Of course, the best quality you will get is with good lighting but even in the dark, woth dim light, it will do decently (with frequent autofocus adjustments).

The mic quality is good as well, but you're better off with your own mic bc you would need to be really close for people to be able to hear you well.

Overall, I'd say this purchase is worth it but I recommend purchasing when it's on sale.

    This is an awesome camera!

This is an awesome camera! Compared to the built in Webcam in my HP Laptop that looks very Grainy at 720p this Razer Kiyo Webcam looks 10 times higher in picture and video quality! I am going to be using this Webcam for a Razer Tomahawk Gaming Desktop that I pre ordered but will be using for Content creation for my youtube channel and work meetings online paired with the Razer Raptor 27 so I should be in good hands with this Webcam.

As of right now I highly recommend it. In my HP laptop I was able to change the settings from 720p to 1080p on the Kiyo Webcam vs the build in Webcam that is limited to 720p. The lighting was a bit too bright and made me have alot of glare on my face but when I put the Kiyo Webcam on the second to the lowest LED brightness settings, it made my video footage look very sharp and clear. It looks great and there are a couple of ways to mount it on top of a monitor as long as its not too thick, it also has a 1/4 screw whole for a tripod stand if you want to use that instead.

    Cheap plastic hinge.

The hinge where the cable enters the camera broke, exposing the wires, the first time I tried to fold the camera. I was moving my monitor to a new mount, and carefully moved the camera out of the way. A tiny piece of plastic went flying through the air. Now it won't sit straight, and Razer blames me for "abuse" so buyer beware.

It wasn't bad as a camera, in the handful of times I actually used it. A little washed out even with the ring light disabled. I used it a total of 4-5 times for zoom meetings, so a cost of about $20 per use before it snapped.

    Does the job

With every Logitech webcam under the sun sold out, this is one of the few you can get in stock at the time of writing this.

It does the job as its designed - 1080p, 30fps. It's a boring design and has some gimmicky lights, but it works and that's pretty much all any of us need right now.

Works well with Discord, OBS, and Zoom. Plug and play function. Also has a threaded base for use on tripod threaded mounts.

I got this in the mail from BB today and while the 1080 details are great, the exposure was so great my forehead glowed like it was radioactive. Very good value

For the price, I'm mildly impressed for what this webcam delivers. The video isn't the crispest nor smoothest I've seen from other 1920x1080 webcams, so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to people who primarily need it for doing live streaming, but it's perfectly acceptable for video chats/meetings.

There's 2 key things this camera is better at than some webcams costing more: auto-exposure and audio. It especially handles bright backlighting well, adjusting to keep your face visible so you don't turn into a dark silhouetted blob. And while the audio isn't anywhere near as good as standalone or headset mic, it is at least on par with, if not slightly better than, the built-in microphone on most computers.

    Some things worth noting:

    - The field of view is wider than many webcams, the result being you will appear relatively smaller and lines near the edge of the image will be curved. Not a dealbreaker for me, but something to be aware of. (It's not exactly fisheye level distortion, but it's closer to that than you may want...)

    - The front of the monitor mount is sort of deep, so it will overlap the display on monitors with thin bezels.

    - The bottom/pivoting part of the mount isn't rubberized, which might be an issue for some since it could potentially slip (the main flat part directly underneath the webcam *is* rubberized.)

Great, easy to use and affordable camera

Great, easy to use and affordable camera. To maximize space and increase productivity I added a pair of 27” curved Samsung monitors, a wireless keyboard and mouse to my MacBook Air and no longer use the built in monitor and camera. Now I use this for all my Zoom meetings and just leave it clipped to the monitors. For me and what I use a camera for, it has been perfect. I hope this helps, have a great day.

    Decent Camera

I have been looking for a camera for months and they have all been sold out. I found this one and was pleasantly impressed. I was worried because I did buy a camera on amazon and it was just so bad but this one was really good picture. The frame rate on it is good if your using it for work or normal chat as far as using it with a green screen though the frame rate drags a little. If it wasn't for that I would definitely rate this 5 star. If you are in need of a Webcam for a good price I would so recommend this. J5 for a brand that normally does not deal in webcams I think they did an awesome job on this.

    Pros:

    Good Picture

    Wide Angle

Works pretty good in lower light

Easy to set up just plug and play

    Moveable neck

    Mountable to a tripod

Works with most programs that use webcam such as (discord, skype, zoom, OBS, and online apps like facebook.)

    Cons:

Need External Program if your doing offline recording or photos (not really to much of a con because there are so many programs out there for free)

Slight delay in frame rate that would causes clipping in green screen.

Over all it is really good for the price especially with how things are right now. So thank you J5 it was not for you I would not have a Webcam at all right now. Your cam is highly appreciated.

Great camera for MS Teams calls

This is a great little webcam. I was tired of dealing with using my laptop camera now that i work from home. The setup on this camera was easy and the picture and sound are great. No complaints that i sound like i am in a wind tunnel. It sits securely on top of my monitor and it’s easy to slide the cover on it and keep it closed when you don’t want to accidentally be on camera.

    Great camera for beginners

With work from home the standard now, I needed a camera for work. I use a dock for the laptop and two monitors and so can't use the camera built into the laptop easily. I needed this for MS Teams and it works great. Easy setup, clipped it right to the top of my monitor in seconds and plug and play USB with the camera. Up and running in less than 5 minutes.

    A good alternative to Logitech

Like many, I wanted to purchase a Logitech webcam for use with my new Mac Mini. But since there’s no supply, I decided to ty the Avermedia PW313. Most of the reviews are from people who use Windows machines, so they weren’t much help in making a decision.

My Mac Mini has a quad-core i3 processor, 16 GB of memory, and an Intel UHD graphics 630, so I wasn’t sure how it would perform with the Avermedia PW313 webcam. I purchased the webcam for $80, which I think is on the high side given that it only has fixed focus, mono mics, and a 2 MP camera. It does have a privacy cover and tripod mount, however, which I like.

The camera is advertised as being plug-and-play and compatible with Mac OS Catalina. After plugging it in to the USB 2 port, I followed the instructions on the Avermedia website to determine if the webcam was recognized by the system and if the built-in mics were working. Worked as advertised!

I also downloaded the CamEngine Lite software, which can be used to adjust picture quality. Following the directions on the website, it too worked as advertised.

Finally, I tested the webcam on Zoom and FaceTime, and it seems to work well on both. The mics clearly picked up my voice. Initially, I thought the video was overexposed, but I was able to improve it to an acceptable level using the CamEngine Lite software.

Bottom line is the Avermedia PW313 webcam is a sleek looking device that attaches securely to my monitor. It proved to truly be plug-and-play with my Mac Mini running the Catalina OS. It has a wide field of view with decent picture and sound quality suitable for use with Zoom and FaceTime. Given that Logitech devices are not available, at a reasonable price, I would recommend the Avermedia PW313 as an alternative.

Tech upgrade first timer - It works very well!

I enrolled for online courses with Macomb Community College. My desktop kept saying the device I needed was not detected for my ZOOM class - no video and no mic. A brother from my church came over to double check my system and confirmed that I needed to purchase a video/mic device. The AVerMedia was the only one available to purchase. I plugged it in for my Thursday evening class and everyone could see me and hear me! I'm very pleased and excited about my Live Streamer CAM 313!

Had a False Start But Flawless Since

When I first installed this webcam, it worked fine on MS Teams, Skype and GoToMeeting. But on Zoom calls, it flickered badly to the point of unusability. Then I gave up for a weekend went away, and on the Monday it worked fine on Zoom and everything else.

    Home run.

    Works like it's supposed to!

Note that tilting the camera is a bit janky because there's not built-in tilt, and the hinge at the back is a bit weak. But other than that, works a it's suppose to.

    Easy Set up

Great webcam for dong zoom meetings/calls. It's a "plug/play" device with no set up required.

I use it to conduct a bootcamp class in an exercise room. Here are my pro's and con's:

    Pro's:

    1. Easy set up, fast.

    2. Good to average video quality

    3. Audio is ok as long as you are in front of computer. Since I'm teaching a class, I'm on the move in front of my computer, but constantly moving 5 to 10 feet away from webcam/computer. Therefore audio is ok, and sometimes cuts out.

    Con's:

    1. Audio is my only major "con." And I think it's not fair of me to rate this as a "con" because I'm about 5 to 10 feet away from webcam/computer as I am teaching a bootcamp class via zoom.

Whenever I move in close to the webcam to adjust something, and I happen to be speaking, the audio is great. But once I move back away from webcam, audio is ok, but as mentioned earlier, it sometimes cuts out.

Conclusion, I bought this because I was not happy with quality of my laptop's webcam, and wanted a "step-up." I would recommend this webcam for doing things like zoom or where you are in front of your computer. I like that it is very easy to use and set up.

    Great webcam for the money

Excellent webcam. Head and shoulders above the built-in webcam option.

    Pros:

    Crisp picture

    Noise isolating mics

    Lens cover included

Larger field of view than built-in webcam

    Designated zoom button

USB-C connectivity (although the included cord is a long ~6ft USB-C to USB-A cord)

Can be tripod mounted (I thought this was a very cool feature)

    Cons:

Rather large, as far as webcams go (about 6 inches wide, so less portable than competitors)

Initial connectivity on Mac was a chore (had to unplug/replug to get a video connection in Zoom, even though the Mac recognized it immediately)

Biggest con for me is that the picture leans heavily toward the blue spectrum and blacks are accented (wish there was a corresponding app that would adjust hue/brightness/contrast). This issue is exacerbated in low-light situations

    Very flexible, high quality webcam!

With the fixed focus technology, there is (thankfully) no "focus breathing" on this model and the included lens cover is a great added bonus!

As others have noted, there is no software included to control this camera, but you really don't need it. if you use it with the (free) OBS software, it exposes a properties panel for adjustments (see screenshot below) and you can also do a -whole lot- more with it, like chroma keying, resolution adjustment (without using the digital zoom button), graphic overlays, etc.

All in all, I would say this makes it a "Best Buy"!

    Almost perfect webcam

Great product. Great video and super easy to install. Just make sure to turn your computer off and on again and the webcam should work with no issues. Only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star is bc the mic itself isn’t the best. Think they could improve that and the video looks a tiny bit of grain for it being 4K. Still way better than my 1080p camera but I think they should improve this webcam as well

    Clear image but dark

I bought the 4K HD webcam about a month ago from Best Buy and have been using it for streaming live yoga classes for my students. The picture is clear and so much better than my laptop camera. It is very user friendly and easy to install. The only disappointment with this video camera is the lighting. I had to set up two standing lamps in my living room on each side of the camera to get enough light while I was teaching. I did not have this issue with my laptop camera. The other comment is that the image is dark and muted. The colors of my living room look dulled and when I am close up to the camera my face is dark. This is a great camera if you have the lighting set up in your space to accommodate being seen clearly and if you are being filmed far away instead of up close. You can adjust the zoom with button at the top of the camera to make your image look larger. Still a great product, just some things to keep in mind.

Simple plug-in. Excellent video and sound quality

I LOVE IT! (Probably because I hated my laptop camera too much..)

First of all trustworthy brand. I had a pair of headphones years ago so I trust the brand.

I bought two for comparison and kept this one. It is very clear and detailed. The three different light settings added more highlights. The rubber under the camera keeps the device from slipping down the screen. Very thoughtful design.

With a simple plug-in, no additional software installment needed, you are good to go with both video and sound for any virtual meetings. The sound quality is actually excellent too.

    Highly recommend!

Nice idea, but not worth it

I was hoping the ring light would help for all the online meetings we have nowadays, but there wasn't much of a difference. I already own a Logitech C920 and the biggest thing it did was remind me to install the supporting software for the Logitech. Once I dialed in the camera settings, my Logitech looked better than this even though this had the extra light. I returned it.

An honest Review from ariane Anderson

Since covid I am doing zoom calls all the time for school, work, job interviews, and I also work as a virtual audience member for tv shows. I was looking into upgrading my webcam for better clarity, sound, and overall performance since I am constantly on camera and I feel like the standard webcam is decent but could use some upgrading. I had looked at this brand & noticed they have many other products with good reviews so I tried this one. The clarity is great, I love how I can position my camera up and down to get different angles. The set up process was very easy as I followed the instructions. I think it’s a decent affordable webcam and 2k HD is great for anyone who isn’t a professional you tube blogger. This will do you good.

decent resolution, horrible exposure and autofocus

while the resolution isn't bad on this camera it has no exposure assist at all and autofocus is random. You can not have any windows in your frame or be next to a window as it will completely blow out the window and your face. Even closing all the blinds the window still gets blown out and i have to close the curtains to get right exposure on my face. Even when lighting myself with key lights it still blows out windows and does not expose properly for a $100 webcam i would expect better exposure control and better autofocus on it. Ive had $30 webcams work better than it. Returned it.

Great Quality Image & Audio with Caveats

    INTRO:

The AVerMedia Live Streamer CAM PW513 sets out to be a high-end webcam solution for 4K streaming. Whether it’s streaming on Twitch, YouTube, Discord, Skype, Zoom, WebEx, Teams or through softwares like OBS and XSplit, the PW513 might be what you’re looking for.

    COMPATIBILITY:

It’s important to note that since this is a 4K webcam, it does require additional bandwidth and processing power, meaning USB 2.0 will not work. But if you’re on Windows, you’ll need a minimum CPU of i5-4660 and 4GB of RAM; and on macOS, it’s recommended to have an i7 with 16GB of RAM.

AVerMedia also claims that the PW513 might experience video delay on macOS and that you may have to compensate your audio, as well. Not a great user experience, and for this reason, I might suggest macOS users consider alternative products—especially considering the very demanding system specifications compared to those using Windows.

For Windows users who want to use the CamEngine software, AVerMedia recommends that you use a modern dedicated graphics card, with AVerMedia claiming the GTX 1060 being the minimum on desktops and the GTX 1050 Ti as the minimum requirement on laptops. You’ll also want respectable CPU performance with AVerMedia recommending a minimum of the i5-6000 series on desktops and i7-7700HQ on laptops.

For macOS users, there is a CamEngine Lite software which allows adjustments such as Brightness, Sharpness, Contrast, Saturation, and Hue.

    BUILD / SETUP:

While the PW513 does have a plastic build, it doesn’t feel cheap. The finish feels more like metal, which gives it a more premium look and feel. On the back, you have a single USB-C connection for power and data, and on the front you have the camera sensor and stereo microphone system. It should be noted that included in the box is a USB 3.0 Type-C to Type-A cable for compatibility with most laptops and desktops, but if you’re on a device with only USB-C, you’ll need to acquire a USB 3.0 Type-C (Male) to Type-C (Male) cable.

The mounting system is simple with a very sturdy hinge design that allows it to mount atop your monitor or other objects, as you see fit. Alternatively, you can collapse the hinge and let it sit on your desk or other flat surface, or you can also use a 1/4" tripod mount (not included).

I had no issues with the hinge loosening up like I’ve seen with cheap webcams, so the PW513 will have no issues staying mounted atop your monitor if you choose to use the hinge mechanism. Just mount it, plug it into a USB 3.0 port on your computer, and you’re just about ready to go!

Additionally, there is a privacy swivel arm that physically covers the camera sensor so that you can always ensure that you’re not visible until you are ready. In the age of personal cyber attacks and online scammers that could leverage your webcam, this should be a standard feature for modern webcams. And while this does not disable the camera sensor nor the microphones, it is a step in the right direction.

While Windows did recognize the PW513 upon connecting it, I also visited AVerMedia’s support website and downloaded the latest firmware update and optional CamEngine software. It’s important to note that the CamEngine software is currently in BETA. During my review period, I used AVerMedia CamEngine (Win) Beta v3.2.0.8 & Firmware: 0.0.8000.24 from their official support website.

I have not tested any firmwares or CamEngine software prior to this.

    SOFTWARE:

Using the CamEngine software on Windows, I was able to fine tune the image and preview the changes in real-time. You can make adjustments to the white balance, contrast, hue & saturation, exposure & gain. There are even some automatic options as well as defaults if you prefer to run with those. I found that initially I had a yellow/orange hue to my skin tone, but after making some adjustments to the exposure, white balance, hue and saturation, I was able to get a natural looking skin tone with properly exposed highlights in my environment.

There are other features such as AI framing, effects, and facial smoothing. Personally, I think that the AI framing is probably the only notable one, as it will digitally zoom to crop the image to faces on screen, and can even crop to the current speaker. While I haven’t gotten to test the latter half with multiple people, I can confirm that it does crop to my face when it’s enabled. Additionally, the CamEngine software allows you to create image crop presets which you can bind to hotkeys. This allows you to quickly change which portion of the image you want to show while you’re broadcasting.

It should be noted that the CamEngine AI features might not work in every software, but I have verified that it does work in OBS and Discord as long as you set your camera source to use the CamEngine, rather than the PW513 directly.

Personally, I think it might be helpful if CamEngine allowed you to save presets for your video settings so that you can very easily switch if you do have different lighting conditions, but this is likely more of an edge case.

    VIDEO QUALITY:

The PW513 is somewhat akin to a front-facing camera on a smartphone. When configured with the CamEngine software, it can be fine tuned to deliver proper exposure, color, and sharpness. With a 94 degree field-of-view, you can be sure that you’ll always be in frame, so you don’t have to position the camera at a distance. Additionally, if you need to crop the image, you can do so through the CamEngine software so that your audience will only see what you want them to see.

The Sony Exmor R sensor can deliver both [email protected] as well as [email protected], making it a great choice for different needs. However, I found that [email protected] delivered a much softer image while [email protected] was sharper and more detailed. The basic math here suggests that on average, 60fps has to deliver a frame every ~16.66 milliseconds, while 30fps has to deliver a frame every ~33.33 milliseconds. Photography science would suggest that by using 30fps instead of 60fps, that additional time per-frame is being used to gather more light, resulting in improved detail retrieval. So my recommendation is to use 30fps if you want better detail; however, 60fps could be useful for situations where you need to capture fast motion—such as playing an instrument very quickly.

With webcams, low light exposure is always of concern, and overall, I found that with great lighting conditions, the PW513 does a good job handling exposure with low noise. If you’re the kind of person who uses a softbox for lighting, that will make a big difference when complemented with manual adjustments via the CamEngine software.

But if you plan to use the PW513 with lower lighting conditions, you’ll find that the image can yield more visual noise. To balance things out, I manually raised the exposure in the CamEngine software. But this also decreases the shutter speed of the sensor in order to let more light in per-frame. This means that the framerate can be very low if you end up having to max out the exposure, and you’ll have to adjust the gain which will likely introduce visual noise. So it’s important to recognize this if your lighting conditions are not the best.

That being said, having this much control over the sensor is fantastic compared to other webcam offerings. The PW513 can deliver very impressive results compared to others on the market because it gives you more advanced controls. Normally one might recommend that novice users leverage the default settings, but I think that it’s worthwhile to consider the advanced settings to maximize the image quality.

    AUDIO QUALITY:

In terms of audio quality, I found that the built-in stereo microphone was very clear and delivered a very full frequency range that is more comparable to a dedicated USB microphone than a headset microphone or laptop microphone. It wasn’t shrill or harsh in the treble range, but rather a nice balanced sound that could be used for sharing voice, musical instruments, and more.

That being said, the CamEngine software also has an option to enable AI noise cancellation which will allow you to reduce unintentional noise. I found that it was effective without adversely affecting the sound quality. However, it might be best to leave this setting off if you are streaming/recording a musical performance, as it can cut quieter sounds out. After turning it off, I played some clean and distorted electric guitar through a nearby amplifier and it picked up all the dynamics of my instrument without issue.

    CONCLUSION:

The PW513 has a lot of potential for streamers who want a high quality webcam solution without needing to buy an expensive camera and microphone. It delivers a quality picture and is complemented with surprisingly great stereo audio. The CamEngine software is mostly easy to use, but cropping your frame can be a little clunky, and sometimes programs will crash if you don’t open them up *after* first opening the CamEngine software, should you choose to use it. But as a plug-n-play option, it generally works well. Once you get things set up and feel comfortable with the results, it’s pretty good, general speaking.

In the end, if you don’t mind a bit of tinkering, the PW513 might just be a great choice. But if you’re hoping for a super easy experience with no difficulty, you might find yourself a bit frustrated with varying compatibility.

Excellent 4K Webcam for Livestream and video call!

I have been looking for a better webcam for 4K video streaming and video calls. AVerMedia Live Streamer 4K CAM PW513 Webcam is an excellent choice. Setup is relatively easy and connected the USB 3.0 cable with webcam and desktop PC. It is a plug and plays and no driver needs to work. I have downloaded AverMedia CamEngine software (beta) for the Windows version to utilize the full potential of this webcam. This webcam supports 4K Ultra HD to capture 4Kp30 video with an ultra-wide-angle design to cover 94 degrees. It has a privacy shutter which is really nice feature.

I have tried the video quality without any adjustments and the quality is not great out of the box. It was really dark and grainy. However, after installing AverMedia CamEngine software, I was able to adjust brightness, contrast, pan, tilt, and zoom controls. The video quality is excellent after the adjustments. I have used this webcam for many Zoom / MS teams calls and everyone was saying the video quality is very good.

It has an integrated microphone and works really well. The low light capabilities could have better and this camera has only a fixed focus instead of autofocus. The Sony Exmor R sensor delivers both [email protected] as well as [email protected] video streaming. It is a perfect webcam for high-quality video calls. For the price, autofocus and low light capabilities should be default features and it still delivers excellent video streaming quality in 4K.

    The best webcam, period.

The AVerMedia CAM 513, or PW513, is a breath of fresh air in the webcam market. My experience with webcams, is that they struggle with picture clarity, overexposure and a laggy/delayed image. I can also add low resolution and frame rate on top of that.

The 513 is arguably the only sensible choice for a high quality webcam in 2021. It’s the only webcam I’ve been able to find, that does everything I want it to. It offers a natural looking, clear image, with a resolution of 1080p at 30/60 FPS (it also does 4K at 30 FPS.) The image is closer to real-time than most webcams, and it’s not overexposed or too contrasty/washed out. It also works perfectly, the first time you plug it in. No drivers necessary.

With a Sony 4K CMOS image sensor, you can expect a clear picture, including under low lighting conditions, even though it can get slightly grainy. I recommend having plenty of lights available for the best looking results.

I will mention that the camera was criticized for overexposure early on, but this seems to have been addressed in a firmware update. If that’s still a problem for you, it can easily be fixed with the camera’s software, CamEngine (Lite for Mac), which I recommend if you want to make more adjustments. I did notice that the image was slightly delayed when using CamEngine as the source, rather than the camera itself. In OBS, the image looked so good without it, that I preferred selecting the webcam directly, for that real-time, smooth camera action!

As a Logitech StreamCam owner, the 513 wins easily. The StreamCam struggles with a delayed image, lag, FPS drops and overexposure, making it frustrating to use, when streaming live. I can’t wait to start using the 513 for streaming, as it resolves my main complaint about my current two-camera setup.

The 94° FOV allows you to fit everything you want in the frame. That’s wider than any Logitech webcam on the market, the Brio comes closest at 90°.

The cable is a USB-C to USB-A. The C-side plugs into the camera, and the A-side plugs into your computer. I assume you can use a C-to-C cable if you want, but many people have a limited amount of USB-C inputs, often just one, so it’s nice to have both options. It’s also nice that it’s detachable, unlike the StreamCam, so you can use any cable-length you want, or how about a 90 degree angle plug, if every inch counts? As I have my webcam between the monitor and keyboard, it’s something I might invest in.

I keep mine on a small tripod (not included), but the webcam has a built in stand, that should fit most laptops and monitors. I had no problem adjusting mine, and it supports both horizontal and vertical adjustments.

I would like to see better Mac support in the future, as on the software end, you definitely benefit from having a Windows computer. Macs only support CamEngine Lite, which lacks in features, in comparison to its Windows counterpart.

This is my first experience with AVerMedia but as of now, they’ve made a fan for life! This is the best webcam I’ve ever had, and I can’t wait to see what’s in the future for this company!

    Great 4K streaming cam!

Great camera, I love the many features it has and its very easy to install. It comes with a USB type C cable, a instruction guide and that's it. The camera itself can be placed above any monitor, or you can use a tripod, it has the threaded hole for it.

Upon opening the box, there are instructions to go to their website and download the latest management software and firmware update. I did update the firmware, which fixes some bugs, then installed the cam engine software. I must say, its very comprehensive and lets you tweak many things (like brightness, exposure, backlight compensation etc), it has also some nice effects and the feature that I liked the most, is the virtual cams, where you can setup several virtual cams, and it has an intelligent way to follow which person is speaking or you can just have it focus on faces.

The video quality is great, 4k! You can choose between very smooth video or very high quality, it warms you that your PC must have the horsepower (no problem with mine, have a 16 core Ryzen 9) and all worked great. It has noise canceling mics, I video chatted with a friend and told me my voice was clear and without any distracting noises.

I highly recommend t his cam to anyone looking to upgrade their work from home setup, gaming setup for live streaming. Its so sleek and has little footprint above my monitor, also, I love the privacy shutter!

    ++++PROS++++

    +Sleek and small enough.

    +Privacy shutter.

    +Great quality 4k video.

    +USB type C cable.

+Good software/firmware support from the manufacturer.

+Monitor mounting or tripod mounting available (tripod not included).

    +94 degree wide angle.

    +Status LED.

    ----CONS----

-4k only at max 30 fps, would have been great max 60 fps...(although you can lower the resolution to 1080p and get 60 fps).

-No light (a bright LED would have been nice).

This webcam really works well for me

I'm very surprised with some of the not so great reviews of this Webcam. After installation of the Cam Engine software and updating the camera (due to the issue of too much default brightness) I found this webcam to be superior to any of the ones I own including Logitech Streamcam and other Logitech and HP webcams. With the updated software, you have the option to adjust multiple settings and not rely on "auto" or "default" settings that the camera provides. During use and depending on the lighting inside my office, I find that tweaking these adjustments provides the right exposure when I need to adjust. The only caveat is not all web meeting application supports 4k resolution/streaming but I'm sure that will change in due time.

Good for working from home, software needs work

I'm lucky that I can work from home, but this involves many video conferences. The mic and camera built into my laptop just weren't good enough quality. This webcam just plugged into my laptop and it worked with no additional configuration needed, and I didn't have to install any drivers for it to work with Teams and Zoom.

The picture is pretty good. It has a great depth of field, so I have to be really mindful of what's going on behind me! The microphone is really really good. People can hear me clearly and they tell me I sound pretty natural, and it doesn't pick up too much of my background noise.

This is a great upgrade from your laptop's camera and mic if you're using it for remote conferencing.

I then plugged it into my personal computer to take a look at some of the other features. There's lots of reviews out there to talk about how awesome those features are, but there were two major drawbacks for me -- first, Windows didn't trust the firmware installer, so I didn't run it. If there were at least an MD5 hash I might have attempted it, but these days you really shouldn't trust anything without certificates or other verification.

Also, the features software has a scaling problem with my system. It works, but the text on some of the controls is oversized and doesn't fit on the buttons. That makes me trust the software and the firmware updater even less.

So -- out of the box, it's great at what it's supposed to do, but I didn't have any success trying the firmware update or advanced features.

Requires USB 3.0. Recommend CamEngine Application.

I recently bought a well-reviewed but generic, cheap Webcam. I was extremely disappointed. The video was not clear, it created artifacts like crazy whenever there was movement and the microphones were no better than 2 cans on a string.

I had seen AVerMedia products around for video conversion for quite a number of years. I didn't know they had ventured into Webcams so I decided to give them a try, especially since webcams are hard to find in the time of a pandemic.

The camera itself has significant heft to it. It's also fairly bulky compared to what you might find from a Logitech C920. The monitor stand is well constructed and has a tripod mount which I found very useful. The privacy cover does cover the camera, but has a slot allow the microphone to pick up. The camera comes with a decent USB A to USB C cable. The USB C connector plugs into the camera.

I first plugged the camera into any USB slot on my desktop computer. I was disappointed to find a message in all my camera apps that reads "Please plug in USB 3.0 port to ensure stable video quality." This message appears in the middle of the screen with an illustration and cannot be dismissed. Changing to one of my USB 3.0 ports fixed the issue (typically signified by a blue USB port). But I would prefer a way to lower the resolution to 1080 if it meant I had flexibility in using any USB port. I also tried some other USB A to USB C cables for longer lengths and I was presented with the same message.

Out of the box, the audio was very clear. However, the video quality wasn't up to my expectations. For some reason, the background objects were nice and clear, but the subject was slightly out of focus. To solve this, I needed to apply a firmware update. This can be downloaded from the product page: https://www.avermedia.com/us/product-detail/PW513

Once you download and extract the utility, follow the included PDF to update the firmware. This solved my video quality problem very quickly.

At this point, the camera performance was nice. It provides 4K resolution, it also has a wide field of view. But I really wanted more. This is where I find the advertised features slightly mis-leading. While the camera is Plug And Play, I highly recommend installing the AVerMedia CamEngine software which is included in the utility downloaded above.

When using the AVerMedia CamEngine software, make sure to close out of all the camera apps you're using. Giving the CamEngine software exclusive control over the camera unlocks several settings. With the CamEngine software, you're creating a second profile of your camera with all the settings you can tweak in CamEngine. For instance, I like the ePTZ function which re-frames the camera by electronically Pans, Tilts and Zooms via AI to draw the focus to the motion occurring in front of the camera. Or it can re-frame the camera to the person speaking. There are many other settings like exposure, gain, filters and effects. Once you're satisfied with the settings tweaks, you can close out of the CamEngine and go into an application like Zoom and instead of selecting the Live Streamer Cam 513, you can select the Live Streamer Cam 513 CamEngine-1 which has all your settings tweaks.

After looking at the box, under the flap, there is a sticker that directs you to "Please check the AVerMedia website to upgrade the latest PW513 firmware and CamEngine Application software." before using the camera. To me, this belies the Plug and Play feature they tout on the box. While the camera does function without any other utilities, the premium price paid for this camera seems wasted if you don't apply the firmware and utilize the CamEngine software to unlock the potential for this camera.
