DISCLAIMER: I used this product in a 2017 Nissan Frontier truck. I used both a Samsung Galaxy S9+ and a Samsung FOLD for testing purposes.
* The design is very simple and easy to use and install
* Extremely durable build. High-quality materials, feels solid, does not have a cheap feel
* Magnets hold device in place extremely well in portrait orientation
* Ability to angle device to the perfect viewing angle in any direction is great
* The design will allow, in most cases, your phone to not block any air vents
* If the initial installation fit is too loose, the small adapter piece will cause the middle "wing" to push up further to keep in place better.
* The Samsung FOLD has a thick metal bar/hinge down the center of the back of the phone. I was able to adjust the FOLD to any angle as the magnets attached nicely to the very center of the back of the phone. It worked great in both landscape and portrait orientation AND no metal plates have to be used. This was a huge plus. Keep in mind that I have no case on the FOLD and it's heavy for a hand-held device.
* Depending on your vehicle, your phone may or may not cover something important (A/C controls or stereo). Where you put the metal plate will also impact viewing area - if the metal plate is on the bottom of your phone, only the area above the CD player slot is impacted. However, if you put the metal plate in the center of your phone, then you'll have 1/2 of your phone sticking out (top/bottom) and blocking 2 things.
* Obviously, is you listen to CDs, this will not work. The CD slot must be empty to use effectively
* Though magnets hold well, keep in mind that if the metal plate is installed on the bottom of the back of a bigger phone, it may be more difficult to maintain a horizontal orientation of the phone as it will want to dip on the non-magnetic end due to weight. If the metal plate is in the center of the back of the phone, this should not be a problem but could affect wireless charging.
* The instructions state that the small plastic adapter piece (used to make loose connections tighter) can be shaken loose in order to remove. I was unable to remove using that method; however, using a pair of needle-nose pliers pulled it out safely and easily.
* With the CD player usually near the radio controls, just be mindful of those controls if your phone is blocking them. If you are streaming and using your phone for all things audio, then you may not have an issue. Also keep in mind the location of your car clock as the clock on some phone faces is very small and may be hard to read while driving.
* Mounting the metal plate directly behind the inductive charging area could hinder your wireless charging feature. Be mindful and test before adhering to the phone.
* iOttie makes another mount with an induction/wireless charging option. This mount does not have charging built-in and costs less.
This is a great device and very useful especially for phones/devices that have metal already as part of the housing. This CD mount concept will be hit or miss for everyone as the CD slot is located in so many different places depending on your vehicle. Some are up high which is good (like my Frontier), and some may be low (some newer Infiniti models amongst others) which could be a problem not only with viewing angle, but interference with other controls. The thing I enjoyed was the strength, durability, and the ability to change angles of the device so that even the passenger could use easily if needed (movies on long trips). While magnetically engaged, the phone can still be plugged up for charging (a wire is also used for wireless charging version of this mount, but to the mount itself). Overall, a great concept. With everyone using their phones today, this may help with creating a safer driving experience inside the vehicle. Please Don't text and Drive.May 21, 2019 15:53
I purchased a similar product from another retailer that was shaped in a way that interfered with my radio volume knob, and you had to squeeze the clamp to get the phone in or out. It broke about a week later and I looked all over for a cd mount with a slim profile like this one had in its pictures and I love the magnetic mount versus having to squeeze. I think I’m going to be a big fan of this mount for a long time to come, thanks guys!May 22, 2020 16:57
This mount is very simplistic so really anyone could set it up but there are a few key items to mention regarding the use in relation to the car and what phone someone may have.
In the box:
- 2 Sizes of magnets (Small black, Large Silver)
- Clip to adjust locking of mount in CD Player for certain applications
The mount slid into my CD player without a problem and without the need to use the supplied clip. My guess is that clip is used for certain vehicles in which the CD player gap is a different size so it will actually lock properly into place. The magnets are of two sizes, one smaller meant to be mounted on the phone/case directly so it touches the mount. The larger/stronger magnet is meant to be on the inside of a case or on the back of a phone with a case on. I choose to use the smaller black magnet on the outside of my black phone case towards the bottom of my LG V40 and it works fairly well... until you want to use the phone sideways on the mount. The manual says to mount either magnet lower on the phone if your device uses wireless charging so it does not interfere with the charging. Since I do use wireless charging from time to time I did as the directions stated and mounted it about 3/4 of the way down. The mount does hold the device well in the upright position but is not strong enough to do so sideways because of how I mounted the magnet on the phone. If the larger magnet was also black and not bright silver I might have choose to use the larger one because of its extra strength but was limited to the smaller black one due to the color and how I wanted to mount it on the outside of my case. If you plan to use your phone sideways a lot make sure to plan according while choosing how to put the magnet on your phone/case.
The mount itself as a fairly large range of swivel (Plenty for the average car). It is very secure within the CD player and did not notice any movement while driving. Any movement while driving was coming from the phone and strength of the magnets to each other.
- Quick Mount/Dismount of phone
- Stealthy way to mount phone (If magnet is hidden under a case)
- Uses CD player which I never use and is out of the way
- Larger magnet is not black like smaller one
- Larger phones can be a bit heavy for small magnet depending on mounting location of magnet on phone
- Magnet needs to be mounted to phone/case which adds a little weight to your device
- Location of CD player in my car is directly above my touchscreen so when my phone is mounted it hides part of the screen
- Wireless charging can hinder where you are able to mount the magnet on your phone
Overall I would recommend this mount if you are ok with where your phone sits in relation to a potential touch screen or screen in general. Also consider what phone you have and where you would be able to mount the magnet on your phone and whether your phone has wireless charging or not as this can limit you to using the mount in only one position like myself. This is a good mount for certain people just make sure you are one of them!May 21, 2019 20:04
This was just what I needed. Other similar products that hook onto your windows or air vents just didn’t seem to stay out. This is solid once it’s installed.Dec 11, 2020 22:04
The iOttie - iTap 2 cell phone holder for the CD slot is my new favorite cell phone holder for my car. I have an iPhone X and this is a perfect fit in my 2014 Honda Accord. It puts my phone within reach without totally obstructing the view of my dash camera or media system. The magnet provided sticks to a clear applicator which sticks to your phone - so you don't have to worry about having to peel off a heavy magnet when you switch out phones. I have the magnet under a Soeck case and it has worked great. There have been NO issues with the phone falling from the mount when driving. I feel it is secure and it was very easy to install and remove. Would highly recommend for any older cars that have a CD player that never get used like mine.May 29, 2019 07:18
I needed a car mount for my cell. Normally, I can wear a lanyard to have the phone in easy reach. However, it makes it difficult to view maps or access music if I need to do so. I wanted a basic mount that allowed access but wasn’t a permanent mount.
The iOttie that I tried is a CD player mount. When I ordered it, I thought I had a traditional CD player. However, I realized too late that I had a DVD player that was behind a computerized display.
The first step is to attach either a small or large metal plate to your phone or case, as the unit is magnetic. Both plates are hideously ugly. You would not want them on the outside of your phone.
I have a phone with wireless charging capability, so the recommendation was to use the smaller plate on the outside of the case. However, that would cover up part of my decorative case, and it interfered with my PopSocket. So, I placed the larger metal plate inside my case.
Placing the unit in my car proved to be a challenge. The unit would not fit in my DVD player at all. Trying to force it was out of the question because of how my display folded down – I was afraid to damage it.
So, I tried it use in my vent. The unit fit, though I was unable to lock it into place. The phone seemed to sit OK, but had I taken a sharp turn I’m not sure it would have stayed put.
I would have rather had flexibility to use it in a CD player OR a vent OR some other spot as one kit, rather than being stuck with only one option. Yes, I was able to use it elsewhere, but that wasn’t how it was designed, so I cannot award points for that.
The magnet was strong, but the phone was mounted higher than I would have liked. It was mounted on the lower third of my phone trying to keep access to the wireless charging.
If you have an older vehicle (pre-2010 maybe?) you might be OK using this unit. If you have a newer car, I would look at other mount options.May 23, 2019 22:07
I just got a new used truck with a CD holder and I bought this to put my iPad mini. I have all my two thousand iTunes music, audiobooks & podcast on the mini and that's all I listen to. It covers the radio which I don't play anyway and use the steering wheel volume control. The mount is strong enough to hold the mini and I wouldn't doubt would hold most any iPad.Jul 26, 2019 16:33
I've tried several suction cup phone mounts over the years, but they never really worked very well. There was never a smooth surface in a convenient location, and they would always come loose and fall off. I eventually gave up and quit using a mount. However, since my current car has a CD slot I never use, I thought I'd give this a try. After using it for a week, I'm loving it!
I have a Samsung S9+ and I use wireless chargers at home and work--almost never plugging it in. My first concern was if the small metal plate would interfere with that. So, for the first day I used masking tape to keep the plate in place and then used it on all three models of wireless chargers I use. You can see in the photo I put it as close to the bottom as possible, and also had to shift a little to one side for the kick stand. It worked just fine on all of my stands (flat, portrait and landscape positions).
Next, I used the adhesive to attach it permanently (hopefully) and actually used it on the mount in the car. It held it in place amazingly well. After a couple particularly nasty bumps it did tip a little to one side, but that's not a big deal to me if it's a rare occurrence. The important thing is that it's holding my phone in a convenient place to view and use it.
As others have said, the position of your CD slot is extremely important. Mine is at the top of all the audio/climate controls, so my phone goes above that and just blocks the display which is only a problem when I want to see the backup camera. (I just pop the phone on after I've pulled out of my parking space.) It does nearly block the clock display, but if I lean just a bit to the right I can still glance at the big clock. Individual cars will vary widely, so you'll want to think about your setup before you buy.
Also, it looks like you can buy extra metal plates for other phones if you need them. I'm glad I finally have a usable car mount for my phone!May 25, 2019 11:16

Super excellent deal and super professional, customer service ThanksDec 13, 2019 17:36
After going through different mounts for years, I find the 'Air Vent' mounts work better for me. The phone is where I need it, without obstructing the view, and it works in all our cars.
The mount comes with two plates and an optional protecting film.
Use the big plate, which is not painted, on phones that don't have wireless charging, between the phone and the case.
Use the smaller plate on phones that have wireless charging. It's painted black.
The protective film is useful on phones with glass back covers.
The front of the mount has rubber, and the clips that go into the mount are hard plastic with a rubberized coating. Once pushed into the mount, the mount has a tightening ring.
It sits tight and does not move. It does not leave any marks in the car nor the phone.
The magnets are strong. The phone remains in place. Bumps on the road don't move the phone. I'm using the larger metal plate with a thin plastic case.
I had iOttie mounts before in another car and they were made to last.May 25, 2019 20:38
I love the fact that its easy to install and that the magnets are strong. It works with horizontal vent flaps but it may bow the slats a bit due to the diameter of the vent clip. My truck has vertical vent slats and it will slide to the bottom of the vent due to gravity and road vibrations so I would only recommend this for horizontal vent applications.
The ball joint has held its position thus far and hasn’t loosened even with less than ideal road conditions. The premium price does include a few things that cheaper alternatives do not have. For one, it has two sizes of metal plates. One smaller one for Qi charging and one larger one for phones without Qi charging. The nice touch is that it also includes a clear plastic sticker that goes on between the phone and the metal plate to keep the plate from potentially scratching your phone. The face of the magnetic mount is rubberized to help keep your phone from sliding or spinning on the mount when attached.
Although more expensive than other vent mounts, you do get a premium clean look, strong magnets with assorted metal backings and a 2 year warranty.May 24, 2019 11:30
My car's center console has 2 cup holders which are not really wide enough to hold my iPhone 8+, there is a place for "change but it's not quite wide enough to fully hold the phone, so if I take a sharp turn the phone can fall to the floor. I saw the iOttie magnetic phone holder and thought it a possible solution. My phone has a simple silicon case on it so "hiding" a thin metal plate on the back of the phone was very easy to do. The plate has a pull off adhesive back to "stick" in one place. I found that I did not need the adhesive back, that the plate stayed in place because this case was quite tight. This I saw as an advantage. The iOttie comes with a large and small plate, it seemed to have plenty of holding power, based on your case you may need the larger pad (good to know it's available (included)).
Mounting the iOttie in the vent was pretty easy, with one catch, if you want to prevent it from moving, it's seems best for it to be mounted on the top or bottom horizontal deflector, now the catch, inside your vent there is a vertical deflector, you want the iOttie to be centered on one of these vertical deflectors. If you don't do this there is some wobble, if you properly "catch" the vertical deflector (hard to see w/o a flashlight (don't forget there is one on your phone)) you can tighten the ring on the back and the iOttie should stay stably secured.
Now you can magnetically secure your phone to the iOttie in your vent. It's easy to have your phone securely held while your driving. unless you phone's in a heavy case, folding case, or case with belt clip, you should have nop problem using the iOttie.
I found the iOttie was a better solution than leaving my phone "loose" on/my center console.May 23, 2019 17:38
Just purchased a 2021 Ford Ranger Tremor. Was looking for an iPhone XR that was not permanent. I didn't want an adhesive mount on the dash. I saw another vehicle with a suction mount on the windshield with a flexible arm but I'm thinking this would partially block my view so it would be unsafe.
The iTap 2 seemed to be the only choice. I say it only works OK, not great because the clamps that tighten around the air vents are CONSTANTLY coming loose. The mount slowly moves itself away from the vent until it will eventually fall off. I have to retighten this this at least once a week. I guess it's the vibrations that's causing the clamps to come loose but I only do city/street driving-not off road on the Baja.
No problems with the magnet(s) or the swivel. I just wish there were better options out there for my vehicle. Perhaps there are. This was the easiest one to purchase at the time.
If dash mounts don't bother you, I would recommend you avoid this product & look elsewhere. Or go for a windshield mount if you can live with the obstructed view.Jun 17, 2021 10:34
Concerning the iOttie-iTap 2 Magnetic Air Vent Car Mount for cell phones, I’ll simply have to say, “I love this little guy”. It is exactly what I needed, wanted and was looking for, and it works great for my needs. It’s not a cheap, clumsy piece of plastic that so often falls into this category. But instead is designed very well and appears to have been manufactured equally well. It took less than a minute to install the whole product.
The IOttie – iTap 2 Magnetic Air Vent cell phone car mount is made with Rare Earth magnets which are very powerful and, surprisingly, 100% safe for smartphones. It fits on the air vent of the car and with about ¼ turn to the left is locked into place.
The product is packaged with two different sizes of metal plates that adhere to the back of the cell phone and these metal plates make it possible for the cell phone to attach to the vent mount. The company strongly recommends letting the adhesive on the metal plate sit for at least 30 minutes prior to mounting the device to the iTap 2 product. However, I use the apple silicon case which fits the phone securely and I was able to place the smaller metal plate toward the bottom of the back (so that it did not interfere with the phone’s reception) and secure the metal plate by placing the case back on the phone.
The rare-earth magnets work beautifully to hold the phone in place while driving. It’s a perfect size and so far, seems near perfect in design.May 20, 2019 23:11
I really like this small and effective and efficient vent car mount. It has a strong magnetic pull.May 22, 2020 17:00
Advanced motion sensor allows for you to easily mount your phone or retrieve your phone with one button press, by automatically opening and closing clamping arms when it senses the phone. The charging mount also has Internal built-in energy storage that allows you to retrieve the phone even if you turn off your car within 10-20s. Equipped with a built-in large coil to maximize the charging speed, and it has safety protection against overcharge, overcurrent, short circuit, and temperature control.
Very good combination product for using GPS while driving and charging at the same time. Great suction to the window, I am not able to use the A/C mount since I have circular vents but it works perfectly on my windshield. It does come with the USB-C cable but it does require 5V/2A input so my truck's USB didn't have the power for it so I had to connect it to an adapter. So if you don't have an adapter already make sure you get one with your purchase.Apr 21, 2021 20:24
I was looking for a charger that was going to expand large enough for an iPhone 12 Max Pro, and this one does it. At first I tried the vents, but it was taking a bit too much room next to my wipers. So i found a suitable spot on my windshield and performed the following before just mounting. One touch motorized opens enough for my phone and the Otterbox case. I hit the button and it clamped tight to the phone. At first it wasn't charging and I feared the worst and was about to walk in and return it. But I ended up rotating the phone 180 degrees and it has the connection to activate wireless charging. that makes the charge cord connection at the top, but with a little maneuvering, my 2020 Ranger has one slick window mount. Two weeks old and still strong.Mar 26, 2021 01:39
These were purchased for my daughters.I really wanted them to be safe while driving .These charging mounts helped solve to problems. Now don’t have to worry if they’re using there phones in a safe angle while driving .Also now not concerned that their cell phone battery will die out .Great product !May 19, 2021 05:15
Doesn't charge through phone cases (at least, not mine.) Luckily it isn't too much of a hassle to take it off though. The various adjustments make it handy for any vehicle.Apr 30, 2021 15:49
Junk! Broke at adjustable ball from weight of charger and phone...adjusted only once during install.May 11, 2021 10:10
Very nice cell charger ....super modern and I do not have to worry for the charger while I can listen my music and sync with my carApr 29, 2021 19:49
This is great for traveling. My husband and I both use it to keep us connected .Aug 22, 2021 08:46
Really good product before I had to connect my phone to charge while driving now I don’t have to. I just have to connect the charger.Jun 23, 2021 15:10
Keep your eyes on the road when navigating or playing music with this iOttie one-touch connect dash and windshield mount. The lock and release mechanism uses a trigger button to hold your device in place for a secure fit, while noise-reducing microphones offer seamless communication with Alexa. This iOttie one-touch connect dash and windshield mount features a reusable suction cup for quick installation.
It was ok for 6 months and then the plastic piece in the back broke and no replacement parts are listedNov 17, 2021 17:45
I absolutely love my carmount. It is the best mount I've found. It's extremely easy to install and works exceptionally well. I have a Jeep gladiator and have taken it off road and my phone stays put no matter what terrain I'm in. I've already recommended it to all my friends.Oct 20, 2021 09:02
The Alexa iOttie, I thought it was going to be amazing but it didn't work well for me. I exected it to have a wireless charging option but it does not. The mount feel like it is a super high quality and would appear to last a long time unlike other phone mounts i have used in the past, So that is good. What really irritated me was the pairing process that you have to do every time you get in the vehicle. You must open up the Ottie app reconnect then allow ottie app to link to your Alexa app. I understand doing it once or if there is an update but not every time I get in the car. when using the hands-free calling people couldn't hear me while I was talking unless I was yelling at the device. I will be returning this. If I was to do it again I would buy the wireless charging non-Alexa model and purchase the Alexa car piece separately. As for now I'll just get the Stand and use Siri like before.Jan 17, 2020 08:47
I dont use this as much as I thought i would. It does what it says it does. The cord to plug in is an eye sore (in the way of the center console/radio in the car)May 14, 2021 19:05
One of the best car phone stands and it charges your phone.Aug 20, 2021 23:44
I love this Mount it holds and charges my IPhone 11max in a otter box case .Nov 12, 2021 19:41
