Top Best 9 Orbi Router in December 2021

I have been a proud owner of the original Orbi (RBK50) since day one when it was first released a few years ago. It has served me very well during these years, and I was really weary of upgrading or changing to any other device.

However, with WiFi6 already here, I finally bit the bullet and decided to upgrade to this Router/Modem/Satellite Orbi combo. Because my original experience with the RBK50 was a little rough (It was early in development, and it was a whole new technology) I was a little afraid that I was gonna have the same poor experience initially, but boy was I wrong.

This Orbi system has been rock solid since day one, I have over 30 devices connected on my network at all times. TVs, Eufy Security Cameras, Android Tablets, iPads, Ooma VOIP system, Soundbars that connect to Wi-Fi, Smart lights, Smart Thermostats, Phones, and more. Everything has had a rock solid and stable connection 24/7.

I can't be happier with the system so far. Of course not all is great. I had a really rough experience setting up the Orbi, The App would fail to connect to them. I had to do it on the computer, and then even in the computer I had trouble setting it up too.

The Orbi web interface would not recognize my input, took me many tries till it finally went through. It turns out it doesn't like it if you just leave the options as they are during the first security questions in setup. You must pick and select several times and then type, leave spaces and delete and type again. I tried with Chrome, Edge and Firefox, all with the same issue.

Another thing, don't do what I did, I called Comcast and activated the modem first, then went into the app and tried to configure. The app expect you to follow the wizard and activate the modem online (not calling Comcast) I think that's why the app had issues finishing the setup for me.

Another thing, this Orbi system seems smaller in pictures than it is in real life. The main unit (Modem/Router) is actually like 2 inches bigger than the RBK50, and the satellite is actually the same height as my original Orbi. So keep that in mind too.

Anyways, aside from that bad setup experience, the rest has been nothing but perfect with this Orbi System. I absolutely love it so far as much as I liked my original RBK50.

Just moved, and after having Spectrum for one month, the modem stopped working and was replaced by a technician who told me those modems aren’t the best. After that, I started researching to buy my own modem. Found out some modems use this Intel Puma chip which are causing issues, so make sure your modem doesn’t have that chip.

After looking into a new modem and mesh set up, I found this all in one system from Netgear Orbi. This set up allows you to have a modem/router combo (or gateway as some call it) with one of the devices while the other is the satellite (think WiFi range extender but better). It made sense to buy this versus buying a modem and Orbi’s separate. Speed tests have run great and no more complaints from my kids about lagging and teleporting in their games. It was very easy to set it up through the Orbi app and a few minutes on the phone with Spectrum. The instructions and information like the MAC ID, serial, etc, are all easily found, they’ve made this dummy proof.

This set up is future proof. Most people, like 99% of us, cannot take full advantage of the speed capabilities with this set up, so there’s no need to worry about having to upgrade this set up for a while. If you’re wondering the difference between the AX4200 and more expensive AX6000 model, the AX6000 does not have a modem/router combo version like this, so you’d need to buy a different modem. Also, the AX6000 simply allows for faster speeds that no one even has. There’s no justification to buy the AX6000 model and you can see YouTube videos comparing the two which will explain this.

Yes, it’s expensive. But this is a clear case of you get what you pay for. The Orbi app is awesome too. You can tell what devices are connected to the main router or satellite, you can cut internet access off to any device, there’s a lot of info and features in the app. Stop fussing with that modem and router from your cable provider or that old set up from a few years ago and upgrade today!

I upgraded my out of date cable and separate router for my home office to the Netgear Orbi and am very pleased. The upgrade was excellent and very easy, the app makes the install process quick and I did have to call my ISP to register the new cable modem router combo but after that I was right back online. I give this 5 stars because the internet and wifi connection are great with very good range, no more slow internet or getting booted from websites and install was easy using the app by following the steps.

Router is great and super fast. The setup though was rough. I had to hard reset the router like 3-4 times just to get it to work correctly. A few times it had me setup a password and security questions, but then wouldn't accept the answers. One thing to note, I thought I was going to use it for Spectrum but then it turned out I wanted to use it just as a wireless router (without the cable modem). It wouldn't let you so I ended up using this at another location.

Hands down this is the best modem router mesh combo on the market and it shows!

My internet speeds are almost exactly what i pay for and i can go to my neighbors house 3 doors down and still have 3 bars of wifi.

On the downside working with best buy to purchase this was a nightmare!

Much better than the useless modems provided by the ISPs. I can walk around my home now without dropping connection, and I can have many devices connected at one time without dropping speed. It's a little pricey, but I am glad I made the move. OH!! It's super easy to set up and get it to work right out of the box.

This system is flawless, it came out of the box and took over our needs like ravenous beast genetically designed to please. It is a pricey unit, but it doesn’t leave you wanting more.

This modem has been great. The setup was super easy w the app and is working great with full coverage throughout the house. I’m so glad the sales rep recommended it.

Needed to replace a router for my work. Something simple that would allow us to keep the network up and access the internet. Being in a 9000 square foot warehouse, something with longer range was needed.

The AX standard seems to be working well for us with both wired and wireless computers. Of course, the computers only have N standard wifi, so we are not getting the speed benefits, but the range is solid for us.

Took a while to get this hooked up (due to my carrier-Spectrum), but it has worked great since then. I do need to give the girl I EVENTUALLY got from Spectrum (after 2 days of calls) VERY high reviews because she was willing to spend an hour and a half with me to get the unit working. Great product!

Wanted the next model up, but was not available at time. Now there is a model that is two models up from this one that I am going to exhange for. Need more power and range in house where it is connected.

Love this router.I live in an apartment building and always had poor signal.now with Netgear that is no longer the an issue.always have a great signal and its strong.

Our router went out and we needed a good quality product. I researched a lot of items. I settled on this and it has been a very good router!

Fast set up and works great was able to take out of box and set up in under 5 minutes with smartphone

The netgear wifi router is wonderful. all divices up and running faster than my old one.

The Orbi was super easy to set up. It only took us a few minutes. The signal travels very far, so far, that I haven’t been able to test where it ends yet because I’d have to go out onto our lake that is 300 ft from our house. We have absolutely no cell service surrounding our house so this is exactly what we were looking for. I can’t wait to get out ice fishing and see if I can send fishing pics to my family. Great system, well worth the money.

Finally a device that can handle 4 Smart Tvs, 4 tabets, 5 smart phones, 3 laptops, and One gaming console all in Single 3 bedroom Loft!

Easy set up and’s great range and speeds throughout my entire home. Replaced a mesh unit that I was previously using. Multiple streaming without any issues.

Kind of overpriced though but it’s ready for Wi-Fi 6E devices like the Samsung S21.

Superb router. Only 4 things i dislike about it: Price, few ethernet ports, need subscription service to fully access all features (optional) and if you move it and disconnect it whether you disconnect the ethernet port that goes to/from your modem or you unplug the power cord - you have to set it up all over again as brand new (which takes some time through the app). Other than that it's great.

This router was the culmination of weeks of research, testing, and scouting prices (take it from an expert - you’re not going to find a deal). This is the best router out of all of the 6E routers that are available in terms of speed, coverage, and reliability. However the app needs an expert mode, there are many things I want to adjust but you can’t do it from the app. Even Linksys’ app lets you do some of the things I want to do, and that app is also horribly lacking.

This router handles my 73 wifi devices with ease!!! It says it's good for 50 or 60 devices, but it's beyond that... it's amazing!!!! No flaws, just as my previous Nighthawk X6S router worked.

This unit is replacing my older NETGEAR R8000 Nighthawk router that finally gave out. We do not have any WiFi 6 devices yet. It provides consistent connection speeds to my 34 connected devices, occasionally over 1 Gbps, which older router never achieved. Very satisfied with this purchase!

I would wait and buy this at a discount if you can. The 6GHz band of this Wi-Fi router isn't supported on most devices yet so I would not recommend anyone to buy this just yet. It's a really nice and fast router, but more than likely will be overkill for the majority of current devices out there.

It works absolutely fantastic one unit you don’t need a bunch of them hooked up in one room does my whole house simple no nodes, no satellites, no extenders, no craziness. Netgear is always the way to go

Excellent but too pricey, maybe 100 off the price of 220, would have been fair, but too pricey for a satellite though it works great

This additional satellite has given me the perfect wifi coverage. A little pricey but great features and functionality.

Product is top of line mesh modem and router. I purchased three and could not be more happy with this product.

went to the store on secor road in toledo ohio, showed them the orbi system i have now and sold me a satellite that would not sync with my system.

Not thru yet , but Very disappointing

This is my 4th Orbi satellite I’ve added to my mesh. Really happy with how they work and provide much better coverage over the entire house.

I had some issues getting this new satellite to link to my existing Orbi system and was not able to find a solution online. I emailed Netgear Tech Support and they said this unit (brand new to me) exceeded the shelf life for their product support. They made an exception this one time and were able to provide alternative synching instructions that eventually worked.

Extender seemed to work okay wirelessly with our existing Orbi system, but had major issues with the wired backhaul that the rest of the satellites use due to distance throughout the house. It appears the voice functionality software version hasn't caught up to the rest of the Orbi family (or we just got a bad unit). We ended up returning and purchasing an extender without voice functionality that worked flawlessly.

With it being Alexa enabled I thought I would be able to make announcements and drop-in, but it doesn't. It does everything else, so really no complaints.

Have Orbi system in our house but needed to extend to a dead area in our back patio. This one was the price on a standard Orbi extender but with a higher end Alexa speaker built in and it works and sounds great!

Very good for anyone that needs a wifi extender.

This works very well but is not easy to get set up, needs time and patience.

I've had this up and running for about a month now. Speaker works great and this covers my top floor, two TVs, 3 phones, 2 laptops.

Sound quality is nice. Little bulkier than expected but overall pleased with device. Took about 15 minutes to finally get set up.

Great LTE Router. I use it on the Verizon Network. Good speed, functional app, could actually replace my home internet.

Orbi 4G LTE router is not what I expected download speeds are not great but I don’t think it’s the router more so the service provider

Great for 1st time user. Easy to set up and easy to use. Customer service was easy to get ahold of and to use.

Horrible, worked just long enough to get passed store warranty period and quite functioning. The unit still under the Netgear 90 day warranty period but will not refund. I will never buy a Netgear product ever again and suggest no one else does. Worst ever!!!

I spent part of the day today trying to get the router to recognize the SIM card. I used the one that came with it. Used one from my carrier (T-Mobile). Also used one from abroad. During configuration using the Nighthawk all of them threw an exception that "an error occurred and try again". Tried to log in via Chrome using the default IP (wired and wireless) and the Genie also crashes.

Returning the router. Really expensive and even though they tried to make this easy by locking some admin features and directing the user to the app it is really annoying and frustrating using the app.
