    It Works

Bought this so I could have the cord hidden at running to the top of my windshield. Geek Squad installed it in about 2 hours. I had them hide the alert/mute box underneath my dash because it’s an unnecessary item. All in all, it works like it’s suppose too.

Very nice addition to an Escort Radar Detector

Picked up a new 360c and even though I already had a hardwired cable for it, I definitely wanted to upgrade and run this smart cord with it. This gives you a nice low alert location as well as a very accessible mute button. This gives you the ability to mute and lockout signals in the newer detectors. No fiddling around with the buttons on top of the detector, just reach a few inches from where my hand is already resting and press mute. The alerts also are active when the screen of the detector is off, this allows you to run the screen blacked out so its not distracting on late night drives but still receive a visual alert from down by your hand.

    Great smart cord

The direct wire SmartCord accessory is a unique power cord with a power-on indicator, an alert LED lamp that warns you of radar and laser, and a convenient mute button. Users wire the cord directly into the vehicle fuse panel, and then mount the display module within arm's reach. It's the perfect addition for any driver who might have trouble reaching the detector's mute button on the windshield.

    Just the right length.

Wired this to my 20’ Lexus GS350F. The original cigarette cord that was to short for my since the 12v plug is located in the center console. This extension was more than plenty of length. I wired it into the fuse box under the dash and ran the wires up the pillar and mounted the escort x80 on the driver side top corner of the windshield where it’s very discreet. The mute bottom I installed inside the center console where it’s easily accessible and hidden.

    The Perfect Cable Management Solution

As someone with OCD, I was always driven insane by the stock cable for my 9500ix hanging down in the middle of my windshield, dashboard and center control panel. When I came across this little beauty, I decided to give it a try.

I chose to install this using a Fuse Tap, which allows you to run two fuses off of a single fuse port, and used the port for the car's radio as the source. This means that the radio still has power from one fuse, and the radar has power from the other fuse, but it only takes up one fuse port instead of two.

The next step was to route the wires where they couldn't be seen. For that, I got behind some of the molding along the inside of the door, along the side of the dashboard, and then under the roof liner and tucked away all of the cable. My radar is hooked to my mirror using a mirror mount that I bought elsewhere, and now the entire setup looks phenomenal.

My only gripe that I can think of here is that the cable that leads to the power source, and also leads to the Smart Switch, could be a bit longer. Where I ended up having to mount the Smart Switch as a result, is not exactly where I'd like it to be, and causes me to have to reach for it a bit more than I'd hoped.

That said, it's still an excellent product, and I definitely prefer the way my radar setup looks now, in comparison to how it looked before I installed this product.

    Fantastic radar detector

Fantastic! We used this driving from California to the Carolinas and back and this radar detector was awesome.

It picked up just about every police car unless they were not using their guns.

We also used waze just to be aware of all conditions.

I estimate this unit saved us about 5 tickets...

I did find the Velcro is fine but its adhesive could not take all the road vibrations... I supported the unit with my sunglass case wedged underneath.

We Highly recommend this radar detector.

    Outstanding radar detector!

This detector is fantastic! It's got the longest range out of any detector on the market at any price. It has excellent false alert filtering, lots of useful features, and is more capable than detectors that cost hundreds of dollars more. I've got a whole bunch of detectors and this is the one I run day to day because it offers me the highest level of protection.

The range is outstanding so if you're looking at giving yourself the very best shot at detecting radar before the cop ahead can pick you up, this is the one to get.

The K band filter can filter out most blind spot monitoring false alerts (Honda/Acura/GM are the main exceptions.. no detector can filter out those yet), it has a GPS chip (unlike the Uniden R1) which lets you quiet the detector down when driving through town at low speeds, you can double press the mute button when you encounter a false alert from a speed sign or nearby automatic door opener and it'll learn and remember that signal so it mutes it for you in the future, and it can alert you to nearby redlight cameras and speed cameras.

Finally, unlike most other detectors on the market, it is also undetectable by radar detector detectors.

This detector has proved extremely popular among radar detector enthusiasts and is generally the one I recommend. What about other detectors to consider? You've got the V1 and Max360 if you want arrows (yes the R3 can pick up signals from all directions too.. it just can't tell you if the signal is ahead or behind). The Max360 or Redline EX can also learn where stationary false alerts are around town like the R3, but unlike the R3 which requires you to manually teach it what's a false alert in the beginning, the Escorts can learn and filter those out automatically, hands-free, after you pass by them several times. There's also remote detectors available like the Net Radar and Stinger VIP if you don't want something mounted on your windshield.

There's lots of excellent detectors available on the market. However, for the highest level of protection and an all-around excellent radar detector, the Uniden R3 is the one to get.

    Paid for itself!!!

I was traveling out of town for work the other day and completely avoided getting a ticket. Not so lucky for the guy who passed me. I was going only 5 miles over in the passing lane when my radar went off. I immediately corrected my speed and scooted over to the slower lane. At this time the car behind me proceeded speeding 5 miles over. About a minute later the cops that were scoping out for speeders, nabbed him. Even if the darn thing notifies me of everything, it’s paid for itself. I feel a lot safer with it everywhere I go.

    Redline 350c and M1 camera

I don’t like to do reviews, But, I cannot let this pass because I went to read some reviews before I invest this amount of money on a radar detector. I own this for a very short amount of time and all I can say is, it’s great it took a little longer to get to know the settings but it was only me. Anyway, this radar saved me for 3 citations already one was with the laser gun about 300ft away and the other 2 was cops on the hide out. All I can say is i paid the full price $750 plus I added the M1 camera. I am definitely very satisfied with the accuracy. I know it’s a lot of money but I feel kinda safe driving around. Just the fact that nowadays you must have some sort of protection and this radar and the cam it works great. The only issue I had with the camera was that I have to disable cellular on my phone to watch the camera because I use T-Mobile and it appears to be a problem. But again very happy with the radar and the camera. The only reason I added the camera here was because i bought it together the entire package. Def, recommend to you.

Great Radar Detector but Needs Some Fine Tuning

Great All-in-One radar detector. Impressive range and solid build quality. Includes awesome mag mount which will build the unit firmly in place on your windshield.

Escort Live is decent but the app needs more work to be considered reliable.

One issue, which is unknown if it can be fixed via a software update or not, is the detector’s sluggish reactivity to Instant-On Ka band. The older model Max 360C reacts better to quick trigger/IO than this latest flagship model for Escort. Hopefully this is not a hardware issue and a future update can address this - but don’t hold your breath when it comes to Escort and timely firmware updates/support.

Also arrows transition good but can be a little better. BSM filtering is very good, not great. You will get the occasional punch-through with some Honda’s and Mazda CX5s.

Note: you must enable K-NOTCH (default is disabled) to help reduce K band falsing. This is done through the radar detector menu settings and NOT through the Escort Live app because that option is not available to enable or disable.

You also get a nice zipper carrying case which includes a mag mount and a cigarette lighter power adapter. Make sure to register the product to receive 90 days of free Defender database updates (red light cameras alerts, speed cam alerts, user reported alerts, etc). After the trial period you have to purchase a subscription which is available in 1 year and 3 year options. Also I recommend to purchase the 2-year extended warranty (directly from Escort Radar) which gives you a total of 36 months of peace of mind in case anything were to go wrong. And with most electronics, something is bound to go wrong eventually, especially when the detectors are in the windshield and face extreme weather conditions sometimes.

Lastly this detector is RDD (radar detector detector) immune meaning that it is stealth in places where radar detectors are illegal to operate (Virginia, DC and commercial truck drivers).

The positives outweigh the negatives with this product but it still needs to be refined and fine-tuned. It is very expensive and most would say overpriced. Something to consider.

Great BSM filtering compared to my last detector!

Good performance seen so far. I previously have an Escort 9500ix which I’d used and loved for years, but with all of the blind spot monitor equipped vehicles in the road these days, it had become useless with constant falses. Enter the Redline 360c. GREATLY diminished BSM falses. Seems like the early issues have been ironed out as I have no complaints about laggy arrows etc.

The auto GPS lockout pushed this one to the top for me. I know the R7 has been promising this for quite some time but that remains to be seen.

    Loving this detector so far!

Best radar detector on the market

I don't really care what uniedin snobs say about how great their detectors are. Yes they have their place but for me where i live this detector wins hands down. Since I've owned it I've been saved by it over 10 times. Very few false alerts and if you have it set up to where you can see what the freq of the radar is then you can say whether or not the alert is false very easily. I've even had a save from laser with this detector. Highly recommend if you can find it in stores

A great unit at a steep price

I have used the Escort 360 Max for several years and have been happy with it. The Redline 360c is a step up. It has better sensitivity and the ability to fine tune the unit. If the steep cost is not a barrier, you will be happy with this detector. I rated 4 for value due to the cost and although the unit has many configurations, it can be set to a beginner mode

Expensive, but a great investment if you drive like a maniac like I do. I drive 17 hours to and from school and home and this has saved me from so many tickets - you have no idea. I have picked up cops from nearly 3 miles away on multiple occasions. Thing is super easy to use also when you start to get the hang of it. Highly, highly, highly recommend. This detector is the new standard for all radar detectors.

Priced High, But Effective in Detecting Signals

Long range detection, compared it with an older Escort 9500ix, & it does detect Ka far earlier than the old model. The arrows help too as it provides additional data to understand where the signal is coming from. The price itself is at the top of the range and you can say you get what you pay for, if this is out of your budget, there maybe comparable long range radars out in the market - do you research.

I just bought a new car, so I knew I was going to need a nice Radar detector. After doing some research and reading the reviews, I knew this Uniden was the one I needed.

Buggy, faulty, erroneous readings, buy a Uniden.

First unit: I bought this redar detector in April and within two weeks it was giving me erroneous Ka band readings. It would alert sometimes for ten minutes or more while driving and I would have to unplug it to reset the alerts. I called Escort and checked for an update. It still falsely alerted after the update, so I returned and exchanged it at Best buy on May 1.

Second unit: After the exchange I immediately updated the new unit. Five weeks later, same problem. False Ka band readings, basically rendering the detector unusable, and definitely making it untrustworthy. I again called Escort, and now my return-to-store period is over, I'm told I would have to return this unit to Escort for repair. Then I'm told their repair center is closed due to Covid-19 and it *might* reopen at a limited capaity sometime in July. After a lengthy conversation expressing my frustrations the representative gets authorization to replace my unit. I received the 2nd new detector in the mail today, 6/23.

3rd unit: New in box. For sale, cheap! I bought a Uniden R7 and bought the Uniden mounting pieces to modify my blendmount from the Escort to the Uniden.

This radar detector has saved me from a few tickets in the short time I've owned it, that's the only thing saving it from a one star review.

You should skip purchasing this one.

    Unsure Effectiveness

I will give this product three stars for now. I got this radar detector yesterday. And since then I have driven about 200 miles. I have not picked up a single cop, however, I have not seen any cops stationary looking for people speeding. The detector has only picked up car sensors, especially my girlfriends lol. it goes insane when her car is near. So I cannot say yet whether this detector is effective in detecting cops. I have seen 2 cops driving near me, but it didn’t pick them up due to driving and probably didn’t have their radar on. I’ll write a review when it actually does or doesn’t work

    Only Gets Better From Here!

    First things, first…

Know your local laws regarding radar detectors! If you get caught with one of these and you are in a place where it is illegal, they will confiscate it and ticket you. In short, VA and DC are the only states where radar detectors are completely illegal. If you are a commercial vehicle, it is always illegal. Know your laws as I would hate to have someone lose such a great device to a police officer. This doesn't tell you where police are… it tells you where police who are running radar are so you can be aware. This does not give you a license to drive like an idiot either. Combine this with Waze and you will be the ultimate road warrior.

I own the Uniden R3 and many other radars out there in this same price range over the years, but we are here to talk about the R7. The legendary "R3 with arrows". I loved a LOT of things about the R3 and adding arrows to it is all I ever wanted. A larger screen with dual antennas and a future with auto GPS lockouts make this worth the upgrade FOR ME. Since Uniden is great with firmware updates and database refreshes, I expect this detector to only get better with time!

    My favorite improvements:

    -Arrows

    -Screen

    -BSM Filtering

    -Ambient Light Sensor

    -Future Auto GPS Lockout Update

-Power Cord Relocated to Right Side and Micro USB

    -Suction Cup Mount

This detector is built on the Uniden R3 platform, which is already a top performer in the space. Uniden was listening to us when we asked for upgrades under the hood and we got faster signal processing, better visuals, and dual antennas. I find BSM is better than the R3 and it runs quieter to me running them both side by side. I find the R7 to be a bit more rangy and first to alert vs the R3 in my testing. The redesign and relocation of the physical buttons will take me some getting used to but nothing I can't adjust to.

Build quality is good but isn't that great. If you drop this thing you are probably screwed. It creaks and squeaks when you press on joints and the body itself is super susceptible to scratching and scuffing. This maybe why they included a neoprene sleeve along with the hard case. The front faceplate seems unfinished as it moves too easily when pressure is applied. Size is definitely on the larger side and more comparable to the V1. If you are looking for a discrete detector, this one isn't for you. The power cord has been moved to the right side now so you don't have to worry about it when mounted near a visor. The speaker seems lower than the R3 but it does sound better.

The mount has been improved significantly. No more wobbling and bouncing while driving and the angles have been increased. Feels really solid and more secure. There is only play when you try to wiggle left and right which isn't a real problem. I am reaching here for something to nit-pick on the mount. It is almost too good to be true for something so big.

Arrows are helpful but not necessary for most. The R3 is more than adequate for most. There are two camps… "if it beeps just slow down" and the "where is it coming from" teams. If you are looking at this… this was something you have always been waiting for… an R3 with arrows. It is a nice to have so you can be more aware of the road and surroundings.

The screen isn't better than the R3 to me (brightness-wise). It can be difficult to see for some people and the colors are not accurate, just like the R3. I do love the size of the display which makes it easier to gather intel. R1 and R3 power cords are interchangeable and compatible with the R7. All function is there to mute/mark. BSM filtering seems to be slightly improved on Hondas/Acuras. 24.199 and 24.200 can be blocked in the options. Auto GPS lockouts will be added upon patent expiration via a software update. This will make the detector smarter around town and quiet known false alerts using GPS automatically. Basically teaching your radar to ignore things just by driving around town.

    My recommendations:

    -Create an app

    -Add Bluetooth to update wirelessly

-Add Remote Screen for this price point

    .: The Verdict :.

Why would I buy? A larger screen with dual antennas and a future with auto GPS lockouts make this worth the upgrade FOR ME. Since Uniden is great with firmware updates and database refreshes so I expect this detector to only get better with time! This isn't for everyone at this price point. This is for someone who wants the best!

Cool police radar or laser detection system

I got the chance to use the Uniden - R7 Radar Detector. Just want to say, you should always practice safe driving habits. That being said, I'm not going to lie I was a bit more confident when I needed to speed, you know for passing purposes ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡° ). Anyways, I only was able to use this for about 3 weeks so far and only heard it go off once but the time it did detect the radar I saw the cop after about a half mile out. I wouldn't have noticed him otherwise. So far I like this thing. It has GPS feature so it knows how fast your going and it also able to use speed camera information which I don't have in my city.

Great detecctor that uses cheap connector

Got this to replace my other Escort, it's display went black. This unit worked ok until the audio warning stopped. Almost missed a few warning and don't know how many I did miss. I updated the firmware a few times and it didn't work. I opened it up and found the speaker used a cheap tin connector to connect to the main circuit board. I cleaned the contacts by re-seating the connector a few times. I put it back together and it fixed the problem. The tin connectors oxidize (think rust) and this oxide is an insulator and prevents the signal going to the speaker. The contacts being rubbed back and forth cleans the oxide off and restores the connections. It was pretty CHEAP of Escort to use such a bad connector in this HIGH priced device. SUGGEST that they spend another 3 cents and use a connector that won't fail. How often do one of your electronic devices fail because a connector have to be re-seated?

the radar does what is expected is quite accurate and helpful with arrows. the stickycup has a fault in its manufacture if you leave the radar placed in a week the plastic that supports the weight of the radar and the frame is broken and two radars returned ppr because of that the radar falls to the ground of the car. escort offers to send a new mount for free but the same will happen again to a defect

    Excellent Radar!

This Escort Max360c has paid for itself in just under a month. I have a CDL and have a tendency to have a heavy foot when not in my rig. I’m an overly cautious driver but when I’m in my personal vehicle I have a tendency of not paying attention to my speed. I have the ability to set an over speed protection that will alert me of my violation, which was a money saver a quite a few times already. When I’m in Bluetooth mode it shows me current speed limits and the speed of the vehicle. Knowing my speed and speed limits is great but the distance this radar detects is amazing, it gives you more than enough time to make your adjustments. The detection distances are adjustable from city to highways Incase your in a crowded environment.

It’s a bit complicated at first on how to use/set/adjust the settings but after a bit of reading and a few YouTube videos I’m very confident on managing my Max360c.

Overall it’s amazing! I wish I would’ve bought one sooner but I bought one now and it has helped me tons. The price is a bit on the higher side but just consider the cost of a moving violation or two!!!

It’s a radar detector. But better!

So this is the first radar detector I’ve ever owned. But I have family who have had some lesser respected radar brands. And they wouldn’t say great things. But as far as escort goes. I have always heard great things from their high end to their mid range(Max 3) and even down to the lower end. So the escort Max 3 is definitely the best mid range on offer. Price might look high on paper but the value of a well built consistent police alerting system is well worth it. As most know a speeding ticket can go up to 500$ depending on speed and where you get caught. I’ve had alert well down the road to where a police officer was scanning. This model even has built in warnings for speed cameras. Which are more prevalent nowadays as counties reply more on that revenue. That’s a great added feature. Also included is a speed limit warning as well. Helps me slow down sometimes. The app is great as well. It essentially mirrors the radar and allows you to adjust settings. The screen is super bright thanks to the oled screen. Nice!

The set up and included mounting hardware is genius. You don’t think about how little things like how you mount the radar would matters. Until you get the windshield Mount that is included. It’s magnetic and is literally the easy I’ve tried. Simple and easy. So like I said.

Yes it’s a radar detector and it basically has one job. But it does that job well. And I feel safer driving now. As I do drive as if I’m in a rush. So you know. This is a must.

    Highly recommend.

The only thing that I didn’t like is that escort only includes a 12v cigarette plug and it’s very short. No extra long mini usb wire was included. And most cars have the plug in the center console. Plus the power wire is a old style phone plug thingy. Not worth deducting a star. But u might have to buy an extra wire.

    Great detector, easy setup

The detector and the free Escort Live app are surprisingly easy to set up, and the app is NOT necessary to use the detector.

The accompanying “Owner’s Manual” covers enough to start using, but many options not explained well, if at all. For example, even though it is advertised to detect six different signals, about two gazillion are listed in the app’s radar setup (see photo). No idea what they are or where/when they might be encountered. Might also be useful to at least understand why some of them are initially disabled. A more useful Owner’s Manual is available online, but it doesn’t list the multitude of detectable signals. I guess I’ll have to Google that, like I had to do for the manual.

A really good feature of the Max 3 is the ability to ignore the signals that many modern vehicles use to sense nearby traffic or objects. (That probably accounts for some of the undocumented signals.) This is a VERY good thing, considering how many false alarms you could get just from 100% of the vehicles you pass (or that pass you).

The power cord is a “smart” cord (see photo). The meaning is a tad unclear - it’s not like it’s charging something - although it has a “Mute” button which functions just like the one of the unit itself. In neither of the two vehicles I’ve use the detector in was it especially handy; it was actually easier to just press the detector’s mute button. It’s nice that the cord provides a USB port, so it isn’t just taking up the 12V outlet. One downside of the power connection design is that the connection to the detector precludes using a generic power cord. In the past, I have purchased a generic power cord and hardwired it into my vehicle to save the 12V outlet and more importantly, to not have a cord draping over the car’s controls.

It’s nice that there is a mini-USB port by which you can download updates.

There are a lot of small buttons in the detector, and even though they are clearly marked, reading them is a no-go while driving. They really should be larger, at least so that glancing at them when placing and removing the unit will make their placement more familiar over time.

The window mount is a great improvement over the old style with two cheap suction cups, and the magnetic attachment to that mount is brilliant! The old style where you had to slip the detector onto a cheap little piece of sheet metal really sucked.

The unit also comes with a very nice case, which holds the power cord as well, but unfortunately doesn’t have room for the window mount. Perhaps I could spend more time trying to wiggle the pieces around to make them all fit, but I don’t feel like I should have to do that. But again, it is a nice case.

Good radar detector but a bit pricey

I haven't had a radar detector in almost 20 years so this is a huge leap over my previous one. That being said I like this one due to the integration with an app on my phone to tap into GPS. The app was easy to setup and connected right away to the detector and is very easy to use.

The suction cup is very nice and the magnet it uses to connect to the mount is great for quickly taking down the detector to store in my center console. It is a powerful magnet and quickly attaches/detaches. The cord is long enough to reach without any issue and offers a USB plug to still be able to plug in your phone if you only have one cigarette lighter plug.

The detector has done a good job over the last few weeks detecting both Highway Patrol as well as City law enforcement. We also just had 2 speed signs installed near our house that use radar to tell you your speed and one nice feature of this detector is that it stored these so that it doesn't go crazy every time I approach them and remembers they are fixed radars and ignores them. When you have the app up also it will tell you what the speed limit on that road is as well as your speed at the same time.

In the past few days it has alerted me to various law enforcement and also if the app is up it will prompt you to ask if you saw them or not so that it can record it and I assume share with other Escort owners in the area.

Overall I have been happy with it and it has definitely identified various radars from different law enforcement where I live but still seems a little more expensive than most people will want to pay.

    Good radar detector

    Setup

Setup was very easy, simple plug and play followed by installing the Escort Live app for my iPhone. Installing the app is not required for device to work but it will provide more accurate results and wider area of coverage.

    Experience/Feedback:

I owned several different radar detectors in last several years and some things never change: suction type mount and stretchy telephone looking cord, which honestly I am not fan of either and I would to see improvements for those. This radar detector it’s not perfect but it does seems to trigger lot less false alerts than any other model I previously used. I love the red light camera alerts which works by device GPS even without syncing and connecting my phone to detector itself. Unfortunately I live in the area with no speeding traps and I have no idea how and will it works with them. This radar detector will detect several types including laser, k-band, pop radar gun and few others. Other nice feature is display with posted speed limit and your own speed so you don’t have to keep looking for speed limit signs next to road. For better and more detailed results I would definitely suggest installing of the mobile app Escort Live which sync with radar itself. Cords seem to be pretty short for my Audi since my nearest 12V it’s under front console armrest and I will look for longer cord, but downside of that means I will have to replace the plug as well which has alert mute option.

    Pros:

    Red light camera alerts

    Posted speed limit display

    Smart app sync

    Mote button on 12V plug

    Cons:

    Short cord

Good Radar Detector, App Has Bugs

About the Max 3 Radar Detector

The Max 3 by Escort boasts many features. It can detect 6 bands, has an app for real-time alerts and updates, has an IVT filter, uses AutoLearn technology, and can read from a “defender database”. The detector can even be updated using a cord (not supplied).

    What It Comes With

The packaging includes a suction cup window mount, a case, and a 12-volt DC power source.

    Features

This detector can detect 6 bands of radar; X, K, KA (photo and wideband), Laser, and Pop-Mode. It does not detect KU-Band.

The IVT feature is designed to reduce false alarms from in-vehicle technologies such as adaptive cruise control and avoidance systems.

The Defender Database includes information about known red light, speed cameras, and speed trap locations.

AutoLearn will learn, store, and reject false alarms.

Escort Live App provides real-time updates from users.

    The Set-up

This is a typical set up with a 12-volt power cord and suction cup mount. The suction cup works really well, and is far better than my last Escort radar detector. It also uses a magnetic mount between the suction cup and detector which makes it easy to remove the detector. There are hardwire kits available for permanent installation.

    The User Interface

The screen for the user interface is a color display that shows band and strength as well as an area that can provide your speed and the posted speed zone if logged into the database. The display has a lot of info crammed into it, and compared to my previous Escort 8500, I think that it’s harder to see. There are also moving display actions that make me think the detector is picking up something. While the display looks prettier, I think that it is harder to use. Also, the speed/posted speed zone information keeps changing to say 70 OSP. I find it annoying. This was a feature that I was looking forward to having, but I can’t rely on it to stay on.

    Audio

There are audio alerts. I have a hard time hearing them while driving. The volume controls are on the top of the detector, and I am always hitting one of the other buttons when trying to turn it up or down. The 8500 had a scroll volume on the side which was much more functional. This is something that could be improved on the Max 3.

    The App

Escort has an app called Escort Live to help provide user-based updates, which is a great idea. Kind of like someone marking an area on Waze or Google Maps. Unfortunately, the app caused a lot of issues on my S-20 Ultra and drained about 35% of the battery in less than 2 hours. I tried having it connect only while the detector was in use, but it wouldn’t stay in that mode. The app was causing so much trouble that I just uninstalled the whole thing. I know that apps can update, so maybe I will try this again at a later time. This was not an impressive first impression.

    The Reality

I think the radar detector is probably fine as a radar detector, but the warnings are not as easy to see or hear. Kind of defeats the purpose of having one. The app is a nice idea, but obviously didn’t work well for me. All in all, I’m giving the Escort Max 3 3 stars. Escort has some improvements to make, and I will probably retry the app at a later time.

    Pretty good for newbie owner

I’ve been looking to upgrade my radar detector however there’s so many choices out there. The normal Cobra/Uniden/Escort names are really the only ones I’m familiar with. That said, what’s most important is that the radar detectors work and work well. This one seems to work pretty well and haven’t had any issues.

Included in the box is the radar detector, suction cup mount, cigarette charger and a carrying case as well as the instruction manual. Pretty simple, compact setup that’s easy to carry and transport.

The suction up mount is pretty good and provides a solid mount. It’s fall now so I really won’t know how well the mount holds up until summer rolls around. For now though, it’s pretty solid so that’s a good thing. The unit connects to the mount via a magnetic mount which provides just the right amount of support for the radar detector. It’s a solid enough mount where it’ll hang tight while you’re using it but not too strong where it’s impossible to remove the unit from the mount. You can easily connect the unit to the mount and easily take it off as well. I’m certain it’ll hold on if you hit a big bump/pothole so there’s peace of mind there.

The unit itself takes some time getting used to in terms of buttons, functionality, etc. I had a Cobra one before so I got used to that setup. A good look through of the manual is in order for me. I use this radar detector in my F150 so the cigarette power cable is just the right length for my truck. I believe there is a hardwire kit available so I’ll probably get that. I have a dash cam too that’s hardwired so it’ll give my truck a nice, cleaner look.

There is also a companion app to use with this radar detector. It requires a subscription to use however I haven’t gotten to it yet. With this radar, dash cam and another heads up display in my truck, my dash is starting to get a bit cluttered so adding another screen to look at might be a bit distracting.

As far as performance, I haven’t noticed anything out of the ordinary with this. It works as intended and alerts me to known street speed traps. I have yet to go out on the highway with this but I’m certain it’ll work there as well. The unit comes defaulted to Auto mode and I’ve seen other reviews stating you should change that to get better functionality from the radar detector. I noticed that when on Auto, it seems a bit sketchy in terms of alerts and such. There’s still a bit of a learning curve for me with this thing but, overall, seems to function/operate similarly to most other well known radar detector brands.

Hoping this thing works superbly so I won’t get any speeding tickets.

    Best Under $400 Radar Detector?

I haven't encoutered a lot of radar hits, but the few times I have they were detected in plenty of time, showing the Escort Max 3 has very good range. The only caveat is that while the radar indicator displayed from weak to strong signal, the audio did not give any warning. It may simply be user error, but I haven't had the opportunity to really sort it out as I haven't encountered a lot of warnings. On one hand, this is good as it means there are not a lot of false warnings, but with the lack of encounters it may take me some time to sort this out.

A feature I really like is the GPS lockout. As you drive around, the Max 3 learns stationary speed signs on the side of the road and from automatic door openers in shopping centers. After multiple passes as it learns them it will display “Stored” on screen. After that, it will mute those alerts and keep them grayed out on screen so they don't set off an alarm every time you pass by them.

Thanks to the built in Bluetooth, you can connect it to your phone and run the Escort Live app. Using the app, you can easily change settings, log your alerts, display the current speed limit on the Max 3's display, and it even shares alerts in realtime with other drivers.

The cloud alerts works in a similar fashion as Waze, reporting any alerts but does so automatically. Very nifty.

While nothing is perfect, I feel overall the Max 3 is easy to use, offers very good performance, effective false alert filtering, redlight camera and speed camera alerts, automatic GPS lockouts, realtime alerts that are shared with other drivers via the cloud, and it even offers laser jammer integration. The Max 3 offers a high level of protection with lots of cool features.

    Amazing Radar, Couldn't be happier

FINALLY! I couldn't be happier about this detector being launched. It's like the guys at Radenso heard my complaints about EVERY OTHER RADAR DETECTOR OUT THERE, listened, and did it one up. I'm sure you can hop on the forums and read the nerd stuff and it will tell you it's very quiet, excellent range, great filtering, auto lockout, hardwire/mute kit, etc. but what most reviews won't tell you are the EXACT amazing reasons I wanted this thing.

For starters, you can toggle on and off specific bands, turn down sensitivity for specific bands (hello annoying k band), COLOR CODE and TONE code each band. You can toggle on and off voice (do I REALLY need to hear which band it is when I can see the radar clearly and hear the tone I picked for each band? NOPE...ANOTHER +1 FOR DS1). I'm glad they moved away from some 1982 barrel plug (sorry 1982) and into the USB C world. If I had to find a flaw it would be the hardwire kit has a beefier cable than most, though it's actually a blessing because it stays tucked in the headliner / a-pillar MUCH better than the 24 gauge wires that typically come with radar detectors. My FAVORITE feature (and the reason you should buy this one if you are on the fence) is the selectable tones that I can choose from. I'm not sure why radar detector companies make the most annoying high pitched 'nails on a chalkboard' alerts for a radar alert. Guys...I'm driving around returning amazon packages to kohls, this isn't NAM. Just give me an alert that I can hear clearly but isn't piercing my soul with intensity, which is EXACTLY why I love this radar. There are a handful of tones that are gentle enough that it doesn't burst your ear drums yet you can hear it over your jams. This probably makes ZERO sense to you unless you've had other radar detectors out there that annoy you so bad you have to unplug it. There are a few other nice features I enjoy (like speed, direction, multiple band detection, a big mute button, easy menu system, etc.) but I think you get the point.

Cliffs : I couldn't be happier with this radar, nice work dudes at Radenso...nice work. It feels like you've had the same complaints about other radar detectors out there, and just decided to make a better one, then make a living out of it. At least that's what it feels like. Keep up the good work.

    Sold on it.

Completely satisfied with the performance and accuracy of the DS1. The more time spent using this device the more confident I am it is dependable. I am a long time user of a V1G1 with all updates and was skeptical any other device would be as good as it is. The DS1 has proven itself. Once you depend on arrows you do question a forward looking device often as you learn it. The truth is you are hearing a warning often longer than with the V1 so you tend to question it. I would recommend this to anyone out there who is considering a high end device. Register your purchase and buy the extended warranty through mfgr, it adds ticket protection/compensation so you have 2 claims if needed. I drive a C8 my only complaimt is mounting the device in a discreet way. There is no usb-c power tap from rear view mirror.

Highly recommended by a professional Rd tester.

Great detector, extreme range, the display sucks in bright sunlight sometimes. It is loaded with lots of features. It is a souped up Uniden R3 platform under the hood, but lacks the LNA turbo power of the new upcoming Rd's (Uniden R4 & R8) You can't beat the price for this performance though. I have been professionaly testing Rd's for 25+ years in Texas.

    No arrows? No problem

The device exceeds my expectation in terms of range & BSM filtering. The price point was just right compared to the more expensive equivalents. I have yet to see a firmware update to improve the device itself, Radenso's website gets your email & device serial # to notify the user for any updates available. The other piece missing are directional indicators where the signal is coming, however, with an early detection capability, I think this is a good compromise. You can also customize the colors of the display + the sound for each band, just additional options to make it personal.

    Excellent Detector, Massive Range

Upgrading from a Whistler product, I knew I was going to be getting a huge upgrade. This detector has an extreme range and detects extremely well around corners. The magnetic holder is very sturdy and well designed. The screen auto dimming works well for me and is easy to read even with polarized sunglasses. I like that it uses USB-C.

The Radenso phone app has not been released yet, so I don't have a review of that or the Bluetooth functionality.

    It does something...

Detects from an alright distance. By no means would I say it’s an extended range, especially compared to any other radar detectors I’ve used in the past. My main issue aside from the false alerts would have to be that it’s supposed to block out/eliminate blind spot mirrors and vehicle avoidance systems. This is not the case and quite the opposite in my experience. It’s been tested in a 2017 Honda Civic equipped with auto braking/lane keep assist and all I can say is I’m almost positive most of the false alerts I’m getting are from my car. Have a photo that I took from the app showing nearly 10 readings in a mile distance before arriving to my destination the other night. Will try in one of my other vehicles but as the Honda is the only vehicle I take on road trips this is upsetting. One of the main reasons I purchased this radar was to use on road trips in the Honda, which I believe is useless. Unfortunately, don’t suggest anyone spend hard earned money on this piece of garbage until they update firmware or figure something else out. Even if you don’t have a newer car changes are you’ll pass one when driving. Maybe you won’t continuously have the thing alerted you down the road but spend the extra money and get one that works.

Best budget radar for any driver

So I've had this radar for about 3 months now, and I can tell you that it has already saved me hundreds of dollars on speeding tickets.

I bought a rear-view mirror mount to anchor this thing in the best possible location for laser signatures (radar experts recommend using your rear-view mirror to mount any radar detector). It comes with a car charger power adapter, so if you only have one charging port in your car I'd highly recommend you get the Car and Driver extension box sold by Best Buy (its Blue) so you can charge your phone at the same time.

I have used this whilst highway driving and city driving. It picks up X, K, Ka, Laser, Spectre, VG-42. It also knows the difference between static and LIVE laser signatures. You'll want to turn off the X band since that is the majority of the time lasers from brick and mortar stores. Spectre will also give some false alerts so leave that off as well. It's worked many times so far and I would recommend this product to a friend. 5/5

A lot of features for the money. Best budget Radar

At $150 you won’t find anything that has the range and features. It’s not perfect, you have to find the sensitivity to fit your drive. Will false alarm just like any detector, when app connected it provides a ton of information and was seamless to pair to my Galaxy S9. You’d spend more than double to get a better detector, not range wise but added features like directional indicators and better false alarm prevention. It’s VG2 invisible, has tons of range and nearly any feature you’d want on a radar detector. My only real complaint is the false alerts and difficulty balancing eliminating them and still picking up legitimate threats.

It looks cool but does it really work? Not sure ye

I gave it a 4 star because it's just cool. I have in in my corvette and took it on a road trip to Vegas. Maybe I use it more to check if my car battery is good cause thats the first thing it will tell you lol. I have an awesome sound system installed by best buy & i check my battery gauges often. But since i have owned it i have only had it beep once when there was a cop next to me. I get false alarms & I've had instances where there are cops around me or emergency vehicles & it has not alerted me. Guess it beeps every few minutes or secords just to remind me drive safely.

    Little pricey

For those that have older escort radar detectors this product helps “update” it a little by allowing the app to work with your older detector. Only downside is it is a little pricey.

Better quality than the last three

Does everything it’s supposed to, better quality than the last three smart cords that always failed on the mute button.

    exactly what i needed

I changed vehicles and the original cable would not work with the new vehicle. Went to best buy and I was told that I could order this cable on line. Ordered on line, fast deliver and works perfectly.

I'm a very long time and satisfied customer.

Feels like I have a brand new radar detector

This cable is definitely worth the price. It helps catch so many alerts and reduce false alerts. I have an x70 and just in the first day of using it I felt it was a justified purchase

Do the cannonball and do it safely....

If you are looking for a dashcam, and want the peace of mind of a radar detector, this Cobra Road Scout Elite is the one you want. There are a few other radar detector options on the market that attach a dash cam to the detector, but this is the first one I have seen that has both a top of the line radar detector and a top of the line dashcam are integrated into one unit.

The design is interesting, it’s very sleek and looks like a binocular, and unlike a lot of other models on the market, the buttons are on the front and not on top. The unit comes with a travel case, windshield mount, power cable, micro-USB cable, and an industrial 16gb microSD card. The unit clips onto the windshield mount via a magnetic interface, which I found extremely easy to adjust and very strong to hold the unit without it falling off.

Upon powering the device, the unit goes through its self-test before being ready to drive. The unit comes with a limited quick start guide to get you started, but for more information, you will need to download the BILT app to get the full manual (or on the Cobra website). I was able to quickly format the microSD (SanDisk Industrial) card and set the color of the LCD to Red, the default is blue. I am glad that there is an ability to change colors of the LCD as night time driving is not affected by Red vs Blue can impact your night vision. There are several options to adjust, but the one that I quickly turned off is the one called “Overspeed alert”. It would kick in at 70 mph speed limit, which around here is the normal traffic speed which is above the 65-speed limit. It will be useful to be when you are in an unknown area of the country, but the speed alert indicator is not exactly accurate as speed limits vary in construction zones, etc.

This is not my first radar detector, this is my fourth or fifth unit over the last twenty years. My first radar detector was a Cobra. It kept me from getting speeding tickets through college until 2006 when I replaced it with an Escort. Today, Escort and Cobra are part of the same company, which means this Cobra Road Scout is not only amazing in its radar detection, the integration for the mobile app is awesome.

Any long drive requires a radar detector. I live in Los Angeles County, and around here it is hard to find an active radar source around here that is not a traffic speed counter. The local police do not run around with radar on. Around here, you are more likely to be hit by a laser from a hidden motorcycle officer than a radar-equipped officer in a squad car. Given that the chances of finding an officer to test out the radar detection capabilities of this unit are slim to none in my area, and even if you find an officer, you may not be hit by an officer with a radar gun, it’s more likely to be a laser. The laser is much harder to beat and much harder to detect. Instead, I headed out on I-10 on my annual trip towards Palm Springs for the weekend. This time last year, I got a speeding ticket, my 2nd in 25+ years of driving, and surprisingly like the first speeding ticket more than a decade before, I was not running my radar detector. This time however I came prepared with my radar detector on, I did get scanned by police cars, but because I had my radar detector on, I was able to slow down in time.

One thing to realize, a radar detector is not an end-all solution, even if you use the iRadar app on your phone (which feeds data to Escort Live too), there is only so much one can do if you ignore the first warning signs of a “Ka” band (what is used by CHP in California, places like NJ still use the old X Band) or a “K” band alert or worse yet, a Laser. On this trip, I got to see the Ka and Laser detector go off as I got scanned multiple times on my drive. (Note: Check your local laws to see if a Radar Detector is legal to use in your state)

In terms of its detection range, the Ka-band is definitely long enough in terms of range, giving you a minimum of ½ mi to a mile advance notice on highways, but depending on the power setting on the radar gun, you could see a couple of miles out of it. The K-band seems to detect about ½ mile+ to a mile depending on road and speed conditions (it is speed-sensitive in Auto Mode, I kept it in High). That said, around here, the only K band is usually speeding verification signs along the road. I did notice this Cobra is very good at rejecting the X band, but it did go off in a few isolated places (which made no sense other than random X band emissions). The Blind Spot Monitoring radars from passing cars are sometimes detected, but way better than my older radar detectors which trigger on a regular basis.

The dashcam features on the device are good. My estimate has a 160-degree viewing angle (the manual says 154-degrees). The video quality is not bad, but it can get washed out when driving into the sun. Low light is not bad, a bit of grainy noise, but completely acceptable. The image quality is way better than what I expected and the sony sensor definitely makes this dashcam worth the price. I did manage to use the DriveHD app to capture some dashcam video. It is not the easiest app to sync, but once you have connected via the wifi, the app seems to work rather well. In a pinch, it will allow you to show the officer video of who was at fault. The app allows you to view, copy, edit and annotate videos as well as share them but I found the interface a bit clunky on android. It definitely needs adjusting to, and the interface to connect via wifi is not the smoothest process.

    Other Thoughts:

To update the device, it’s best trying to use the iRadar app at home, connected via Bluetooth, and then syncing it to the home wifi. That allowed me to get to the latest firmware (May 2020 - RScout08 version). For some reason, it would not connect to my mobile hotspot. The app documentation needs additional help, definitely, a lot of features that it presents are not completely documented in a how-to. I am still unable to update the defender database through the app. I find the iRadar cloud sync works pretty decent but does not point to the direction of travel, and the app needs a ‘heads up direction mode’. I had it running on my phone mount so I could view the map while driving, and it was quite accurate, identifying areas where people were hit with “Ka” radar, but the app still needs more work I feel. Good thing, the radar detector does not need the app to work, it’s stand-alone!

My SO asked what the difference between the iRadar app vs. her Waze app which shows police locations. The explanation was best demonstrated by the several times that a “Ka” signal was picked up, and where there was no cop listed on the Waze app. It is not exactly accurate when you need it most.

    Final Thoughts:

My impressions of this radar detector can be summarized in one word. “Impressed”. I am thoroughly impressed by this device. I got this for my sports car and should make for some great driving videos in the future and still provide me enough coverage to protect me from the rozzers. The integrated radar + dash cam will save me space on my windshield.

    Pros:

    * Dash Cam works, radar and laser detector work very well – a great all-rounder for a mid-range detector. Escort Live integration is awesome.

    * Love the beep “chirp” sounds to quickly identify bands (used to my old escorts doing that) - I turned off the voice alert

    * LCD color change is a welcome addition

    * The windshield Magnetic mount is solid, and it’s very easy to level the detector and remove.

    Cons:

    * Overspeed Alert is very sensitive, needs to be turned off from default or adjust to a true over-speed (85 mph for me)

    * Miss the bright screen, even in “bright” mode, it is still not bright as I’d like the display to be used in the daytime

    * Bluetooth & Wifi connections with apps are fussy at times.

    * MicroUSB connection to the PC does not seem to work with RScout08 firmware, it turns on, shows the firmware version, but no way to download the videos unless you pull out the microSD card.

    * Smart Cord is not as long as I’d like. There is no factory remote smart cord relocation available as yet, but there are options available to rig something up.

    Pleased with my purchase!

For my first radar detector, I have to say I am very pleased with it. I took a road trip right off the bat the next day after I purchased it from Pennslyvania to Arkansas. About 1,000+ miles and it helped me out about 5-6 times along the way, especially in WV. It will especially come in handy now that PA has passed a bill to allow local police departments to use radar now as well. In my mind, it has paid for itself and gave me a heads up when needed. Going into more detail about the product I think it looks pretty great in my Infiniti Q50. The one con though was the power cord did not stretch far enough to my middle console so I had to opt for a mirror tap and mount which I am glad I did. It set me back probably another $30. I also bought a longer power cord in case I switch cars or go on a road trip with a friend. The magnetic mount makes it easy to make that switch. As far as the app I would say it's fairly simple to use and I had no issues connecting to it and adjusting settings/viewing videos. Overall, I am happy with the purchase and was kind of wary of spending over $400 on this little device but like I said it probably has paid for itself and my setup with the tap-in and mount looks awesome.

    Amazing Radar Detector

I like this because it's an all in one setup, compared to my other radar detector with the camera needing to be attached to the side. This radar detector does very well when picking up Laser, and K Band so far. Picks up police and troopers from miles out. I love the jobs, being able to turn them instead of tapping on the unit. The only con is the size, it's HUGE. Other than that, I love it. Oh yeah it talks to you as well!

Excellent for Radar detection and Dash Camera

Lately, I have been looking into getting a dash camera for my personal vehicle. It’s a must-have for fender benders to protect yourself from liability and hit and runs. Cobra has been in the radar business for a while now. The last time I had one was around 15 years ago from what I recall performed well. After using the Cobra Scout for over a week it has been a good experience so far. Let me start off with the radar part.

For my settings, I left it on the auto setting. I suggest researching the different bands so you can familiarize yourself with them in case you get a lot of false alarms from cruise control radar or blind spot radar systems that newer cars are equipped with. For me, the auto settings have worked well enough for me that I haven’t had any issues with false alarms. Cobra does have an app available for download (iRadar). The app allows you to adjust settings from brightness, color, and shutting off bands that are producing false alarms. A Wi-Fi connection is needed to update the GPS database for the location-based alerts. The app dashboard can show you your current speed and real-time location on a map. As for the unit itself, the small LCD display shows your current speed and alert status if you get one. It will also tell you when you’re above the speed limit. There is a setting that you can adjust the speed alert to kick in only if you’re above the number of miles you specified. I have mine set up at 8 miles over. So do take the time to familiarize yourself with the app. It makes it so much easier to adjust the settings on the fly. Audible alerts are loud and volume can be adjusted on the right knob. The right knob also serves to mark a location. On the left knob, you can mute the unit, adjust the brightness and sensitivity.

For the Dash camera, it runs in the background as soon as you turn on the unit. If you need to connect to it just hold down the BRT button until it shows CAM. The connection is done via direct Wi-Fi so make sure to turn on the setting that switches the data to cellular when there is no data connection on the Wi-Fi network. If you don’t you will lose all data signals. From the app, you can view the video feed in real-time or playback the 3min video recordings. From here you can also download or share the video. You can also edit them. Cobra does provide a 16gb memory card but you can upgrade if needed to. Just make sure to format it to FAT32 for memory cards above 32gb. Video quality was good for 1080p resolution. The video was sharp and had good autofocus.

    Radar:

    Full 360-degree coverage.

Auto settings when it comes to alerts.

Option to turn off bands individually.

Ability to update the GPS database and location-based alerts.

You can also mark locations for speed traps, hazards, and accidents.

    Dash Camera:

1080p Dash Cam with a 154° field of view

Excellent video quality day and night.

    G sensor for impact detection.

    3min loop video.

The app allows you to edit, download, share, and delete videos from your phone.

Overall I was highly impressed with the Cobra 2 in 1 Elite Scout. A lot of 2 in 1 device end up performing one function better than the other one but Cobra made sure that both ends perform exceptionally well. Even though it’s pricey, just think of it as getting 2 devices one is a top-quality dash camera along with a mid-range radar that performs well too. The only small complaint I have is that I prefer a single app to be released that can handle both radar and dash cameras instead of having to switch over to another app. I highly recommend you bring along the Cobra 2 in 1 on your car drives.

Road Scout will be on the lookout for you

The Cobra Elite Road Scout is the first radar detector that I have used in many years. I have an older model of a different brand and this really is light years ahead in the design and functionality of it. Gone are the 2 push buttons that I would have to use to set the detector in different modes and I have to say the functionality has come a long way. The Road Scout has a ton of settings that you can adjust, from the color of the display, the bands it displays, language, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, dash cam loop time, etc. It is nice that you can access these (and many more) settings on the unit itself by holding down the SEN/BRT buttons together. You use the ring around the Mark button to cycle thru the menus and the Mark button to select, but I did find it easier to use the iRadar app to make the changes (menu / Settings). I am still trying to figure out how the Cobra Road Scout connects to the iRadar app on my phone. I expect it to just connect when it is on and in Bluetooth range, but that may not be the case. The iRadar app is similar to Waze and how it works with speed zone and alerts so for now I am going into the iRadar app settings and selecting Devices and then select the Road Scout, but I wish it would just auto connect to it when I launched the iRadar app from my phone. And it is nice if I do see a hazard up ahead, I can hit the Mark button and then select what type of hazard it is to help other drivers on the road.

Now let us talk about the 1080p camera that is built in. To be honest, I did not expect much from this portion due to my experience of buying devices that try to do too many things and usually fail to meet expectations. However, this is a particularly good camera that is built in and the accompanying app (Drive HD) is a well built and especially useful. You connect to the camera via a Wi-Fi network that the Road Scout is broadcasting (if it is turned on). Then you have access to the video files on the included 16GB micro SD card. You can download them to your device and share and edit them all within the Drive HD app. You can even get a live feed of what the camera sees and this was useful when I was placing the Road Scout on my window for the optimal spot that didn’t block my view and provided the best view for the camera.

this is a very solid device that combines the benefits of a good radar detector technology and equally good 1080p dash camera in a very sleek binoculars looking unit. It has a suction cup mount for the window and a magnetic mount for the Road Scout so you can easily remove it, for another car hide it from thieves, along with nice carrying case, although the suction cup itself does not hold very well. The price is a bit steep, but you go get a lot for what you pay here. I am looking forward to many road trips once this Covid thing is over with and I plan on having the Road Scout looking out for me on the road ahead.

    Pros:

    Very customizable with alerts

    GPS location built in

Speed can be displayed on the unit

    Marking alerts from the unit

    Portability

    1080p camera

    included 16GB microSD card

    Cons:

    Suction cup mount doesn’t hold

    Price

Doesn’t auto connect to iRadar app

Got this at the right time

So I got this in time for my road trip from Kansas city to California and back again. So a perfect time to test it out. I just got a new mustang and was thinking about getting one for a long time and decided to go on a little road trip this has worked out great. Yes we all drive over the speed limit at some point in time this makes it a little more relaxing. Great signal strength and notification display. There is a lot of speed bands out there and this pick them all up. Just know what band to really look out for. There wasn't a lot of false calls when it call for a real band call the cop was there. Enough time to make sure we were doing the correct speed. The display is nice and big you can change the color of the display and all setting from the device itself or by the app. It was easy to use the app and play around with the setting. The camara function is great it seems that you should always drive with a camera in the car now so much goes on around d you and you will always have evidence if you need to use it. You can download the app and play with the camera and edit. The mount is nice and the device doesn't move and shake this has to be one of the better mou to have have seen for a car. Easy to take the device off and on you get a nice case to carry it in and store it with the cords.

Now the things I'm disappointed in is the cord its just in the way from the center of the window and center of the dash I put a picture of it. I wish they would have made a rechargeable device as everything now is rechargeable. Or make a cord to be a le to tuck it around to hide it.

There is a voice that will speak but its so fant you can't really hear it and I haven't been able to find a way to turn it up louder.

    Overall a great buy

Great piece of equipment for road warriors

The Cobra 2-1 road scout is probably the best in-car device I have. I have had radar detectors in the past, and this is my first time owning a dash cam. What is included in the box: Power cable, windshield mount, carrying case, 16gb micro SD card.

Setup was a bit finicky but if you follow the instructions, you will be fine, they are very clear and there’s not a lot of buttons to press on the unit itself.

Mounting it is easy, and this I absolutely love, it’s a magnetic – hook design, and the magnet is strong enough that when I went off-roading in the city due to construction on my street alone, it stayed put, yet I fear for my suspension. It’s easy and fast enough to remove quickly from your windshield, as I live in a not-so-friendly area, and don’t want to advertise the expensive equipment in my vehicle.

The display is clear and concise, and you can change the color, which is nice, to match the interior lighting of your vehicle. The display is rather unique, being a circle, instead of the same rectangular design found in most detectors, however the font is a TAD bit small, but it has voice alerts to compensate. The volume wheel is a great feature as this unit is LOUD, so turning it up halfway is more than enough for me.

The radar detector features are great, along with it paring with your phone and using GPS to notify you of usual speed traps or air-radar patrols, and double tapping the mark button will mark the location of a trap that hasn’t been mapped yet.

The camera feature is great, and while I don’t “use” it, it’s more of a background function. There is a built-in accelerometer that, when the vehicle is struck, it automatically saves a loop of footage, but it doesn’t really help if you are rear-ended, as the camera is forward facing, but still for peace of mind, it’s nice to have the camera.

Overall, I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this to those who like having a radar detector.

    The perfect combination of Radar/Dashcam

The road scouts provide the kind of security you're looking for. It also brings on a new game of radar detector and dash cam in one. it is very easy to use and even customizable. The radar does detect just about everything from license plate readers to speed limit signs, red light cameras, air patrol and every type of radar gun. One occasion it was able to pick up a radar about half mile away. I didn’t even know there was a cop sitting there on the side of the road. This radar has many options in the settings to please your needs.

I have previously hard wired other electronics in my car that were not known to this. I saw multiple reviews that said there is no way to hard wire this but I was able to figure out a way to do it DIY. The product itself has a great idea but it can be adjusted, the Bluetooth feature on the iradar app is very poorly put together. Very few times I can say that the radar actually connected to my phone.

The drive HD app also was not very good. The radar itself does not connect to your device automatically and it is very hard to get it to actually connect in reality it works when it wants to. The real con is that the apps are just very poorly put together and the good thing is that it can be easily fixed with software updates. Other than that this radar does cost a pretty buck but it is worth every penny. In the box it includes the Radar, micro USB cable, mount, carrying case, cigarette lighter adapter, 16GB SD card, and quickguides.

Just not there for the price...

I thought this would be an ideal solution since I was going to hardwire the camera. Unfortunately the camera quality is subpar at best, and on top of it it does not log any speed or location information. The app is okay. Slow to download the videos so only useful in extreme circumstances and doesn’t label files separately. If you’re planning on using the power adapter or transporting from car to car it may be worth it.

For the same cost I was able to get a 4K front and 2k rear camera with many more features (U1000) with the same radar detector (360c) that’s hard wired into the car. Better video more features and just as clean a setup if not better!

The review is for the both of them 3 starts cause half the package is the radar.

    Everything you would want.

So far this product has been great! Easy to read screen, stores frequent signals you don't care about so it won't go off, says that it detects aircraft, I haven't gotten to try that out yet. Also, when paired with the app you can change all the singles you want it to detect. The app will even tell you how strong the signal is. Would definitely recommend.

    Works like a champ

Response is quick. Saved me at least 3 times. Using this along with Waze and you should never get a ticket. (Unless they are using laser).

Really impressed with this mid range detector

So i have the top dog uniden Rx 7 and the Valentine 1 gen 2 now i wanted to try a but cheaper in this cobra since its essentially a max 360 ( cobra is now owned by escort) so the quality isnt crap anymore . In dact its the most quiet detector of all 3 and if u do a search in youtube u will hear the consensus that the detector filtering is as good as any against junk false alerts and bsm. That said it was also mentioned issue with it freezing . Sure enough first day it froze on me. I just hit power it its been every since. But for the low price is a darn good detector!

Great price for having arrows. great overall !

This is a great radar detector and the plus is of course the arrows. You also have band segmentation for K and Ka band with MRCD detection for K if you are up north.

Arrows work great, first time I had it go off had few constables with constant on with someone pulled over was good to see they were ahead and now I have to replace my other detectors.

The last time it was from behind and was a ghost sheriff vehicle running constant on as well, but from your rear view it looked like someone in a sports car you couldn't tell with that ghost writing.

Range is similar to other Escort detectors which for me is long enough. I had a Uniden R1 and R3 and ending up selling them as they had extreme range but that didn't help when it took miles to get to the source. I know you can reduce sensitivity on that one but still.

I use this with a mirror mount and power so I don't have any sun glare that may make the arrows hard to see.

If you want arrows and believe me you do, get this while you can and it is on sale, there is nothing better for the price.

Autolockouts with GPS with arrows and dual horns? No question buy it.

    Won't do the job.

It is extremely bad product. Before I used to have $40 radar detector bought on amazon was excellent working fine for years until someone broke in to my car and stole it. After, one month from purchasing this one I received my first speeding ticket $250 fine and 4 points on my licenses. Basically doe not do the job. In wish I can return it.

All in one, all I’ll need

I have the Max360c and I was contemplating the add on M1 dash cam until Escort came out with with this. Very pleased with this units fit and finish out of the box (nice packaging too for those that care). I am a long time Escort user and the the 360 technology has been the biggest game changer for me until now. The Drive Smarter App combined with the 360 detection and now integrated dash cam is a win for me and likely the last upgrade I’ll personally need. The Drive Smarter app (pics included) gave me a quick pre trip heads up real time. It’s functionality is similar to Waze in that it is shared with the network or community of users. I know there was mention of some app challenges but I’ve had none so far.

I’ve included some side by side images of my Max360c and new Maxcam360c for size comparison. Excited to use this on my many Seattle to Portland trips.

Great Detector, Okay Dash Cam, Horrible Execution

When this model was released, I just so happened to be in the market for a radar detector and possibly a dash cam, so this seemed like a no brainer. Upon unboxing, I was very impressed with the build quality of the unit and mounted it using a BlendMount. I was also impressed with the radar performance of the unit compared to the MAX 3 I had before. The lone issue i had with the radar detector portion was that the auto lockout feature never worked for me, even when I had it on all the correct settings. Not sure if i had a faulty unit, or the failed firmware updates caused this (I’ll explain these later in the review.) The dash cam performance is pretty solid for being an all-in-one unit, but I fear that dash cam technology will quickly progress in the future and leave this one behind.

Now, onto the dumpster fire that is the Drive Smarter app… It blows my mind that this product/app combo was released to the masses with seemingly non-existent product testing. I know that Escort is notorious for using early adopter customers for their quality control, but the Drive Smarter app is BAD, like laughably bad (as of October 2021). Connecting to the detector via Bluetooth usually takes about 15-30 seconds and then another 15-30 seconds just to pull up the device settings menu. Any changes made in the settings menu are laggy and don’t always take the first time, and sometimes even crash the app. Connecting to the dash cam via Wi-Fi is even worse. It takes at least 2-5 attempts to connect and the dashboard for videos almost never loads. Video quality through the app looked fine but once I downloaded them to my iPhone they were very pixelated. Transferring videos from the micro sd card to a computer is definitely the best way to transfer video files. Another major issue I had was trying to update the firmware through the Drive Smarter app. Anytime I would attempt to start the update, it would lag out and crash the app. I ended up bringing it inside and using an AC to DC converter to hookup to my home Wi-Fi and was able to update the firmware directly through the detector itself. Because of all these issues with the Drive Smarter app, I ended up using the Escort Live app for the remainder of my time with the unit.

Overall, the MAXcam 360c has a ton of potential. If Escort can get all of the issues with the Drive Smarter app resolved, this would be a solid combo unit. I chose not to wait for these issues to be resolved, and returned the MAXcam 360c. I ended up getting the Redline 360c and will use a separate dash cam instead.

    The best. Worth every penny.

The best radar detector I’ve owned. Period. Super long range, accurate, no false alarms. Upgraded from the 360c and love having the camera. Gives me piece of mind. Having two separate units was a no for me so this sleek design is awesome, love the look. Yes, I too had issues changing settings with the app but spoke to customer service and update is coming. Meanwhile it’s still awesome, and will be awesomer soon. Just gotta get around to finally hiding that cable now.

    Great radar detector!

I was very hesitant purchasing this based on other reviews but I followed the app set up instructions and within no time my radar detector started a software update, installed after a few minutes with no issues. I navigated thru the app to the detector settings and made a few changes, again no problems. I see no need to worry about wi-fi connections as the drive smarter app connects via bluetooth and makes all the updates from there. I have yet to attempt to download any videos from the traffic cam features and will update this review if I run into any issues. For the record I am running the Drive Smarter app on a iPhone 12 Max Pro if that makes any difference with complaints about the app not working.

    Returned after 4 days

I have 3 other Escort radar detectors, I LOVE them!!!. Thought I would upgrade to the newest of their current line, HUGE mistake!. After a couple calls to Escort customer service for just trying to get it to connect to the app I decided that this unit is garbage. It’s out of my car and been replaced by my ultra reliable Max 2 that was going to be replaced by this unit. Also, this unit has not alerted me 1 time in 3 days, and I know where false signals are on my way to work. I’ve also noticed the quality of the unit is not what you should expect from a detector that costs $800. My Max 2 has a much more quality feel about it, looks like I’m sticking with my Max 2 now.

Great until you try to update anything

I am a strong supporter of Escort products but this one has been released before it’s time. The concept is fantastic. However, most of the time the Apple not connect to the camera settings nor the unit. Also, all of my files for the camera can’t find GPS and have the wrong date and time. Great concept, poor execution
