  • Compatible with most Sony E-mount cameras: For use with your existing device
  • Advanced Optical Performance: The FE 14mm F1.8 GM delivers incredible G Master quality and performance with a new perspective from an ultra- wide-angle field of view and bright F1.8 aperture - all in a compact and lightweight design.
  • 21mm equivalent on APS-C bodies: The FE 14mm F1.8 G Master lens is highly recommended for APS-C as well as full-frame users. It balances well on smaller APS-C format bodies, providing a wide focal length of 21mm.
  • F1.8 max aperture: The F1.8 max aperture – uncommon in ultra-wide primes - provides extraordinary brightness and shallow depth of field, allowing you to isolate your subject from the foreground and background with amazing light gathering capabilities when shooting wide open.
  • Beautiful, natural-looking bokeh: The F1.8 max 9-blade circular aperture maximizes the beauty of this large-aperture lens, contributing to impressive images in which the subject stands out against a smoothly defocused foreground and background, as well as perfectly round points of defocused light.
  • Close-ups with stunning bokeh: The two XA lens elements plus innovative mechanical, optical and control technology achieve a minimum focusing distance of just 9.8” with a maximum magnification of 0.1x, making it possible to shoot impressive close-ups with smooth, creamy background bokeh.
  • Two XA lens elements: The FE 14mm F1.8 GM incorporates two extremely precise XA (extreme aspherical) elements - manufactured to 0.01-micron surface precision and one Aspherical element in an innovative optical design that achieves stunning G Master resolution throughout the image area.
  • One Super ED and two ED glass elements: One Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) and two ED glass elements significantly reduce flare and ghosting by taking axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration out of the picture.
  • XD Linear Motors for fast, precise, quiet focusing: The FE 14mm F1.8 G Master lens incorporates a precision internal focus mechanism consisting of two XD Linear Motors that easily keep up with the high-speed capabilities of today’s most advanced camera bodies.
  • New Nano AR Coating II enhances clarity: A new Nano AR Coating II has been developed that can be evenly applied to large lens elements or highly curved element surfaces to suppress internal reflections and minimize flare and ghosting for clear, crisp imagery.
  • Dust and moisture resistant for robust reliability: The dust and moisture resistant design make this lens appropriate for heavy-duty outdoor use, especially when combined with a camera that employs weather resistant measures.
  • Fluorine front element coating: The front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants, while making it easier to wipe off any contaminants or fingerprints that attach to the lens surface.
  • Compact, lightweight design: This lens weighs just 16.3 oz. Its small size and light weight enhance mobility when used with compact E-mount Full-frame or APS-C bodies and make up a well-balanced system that is ideal for use on gimbals or accessory grips.
  • Moviemaking advantage: Two XD Linear Motors for fast, precise autofocus and tracking, a bright F1.8 maximum aperture for beautifully defocused background bokeh, excellent close-up performance and a class leading compact and lightweight design, this lens is ideal for all types of content creators.
  • Instant auto/manual focus selection: Instantly switch between auto and manual focus via an AF/MF switch on the side of the lens. This makes operation faster and easier as you let the camera and lens focus for you or decide to take control and manually focus on the precise point you choose.
  • Natural, linear manual focus response: Linear Response MF ensures the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle control when focusing manually. Focus ring rotation translates directly to a corresponding change in focus, so control feels immediate and precise in both still and movie modes.
  • Rear filter holder: The FE 14mm F1.8 GM takes a different approach so standard sheet-type ND, color correction and other filters can be inserted into the lens’s rear filter holder for expanded expressive capability. A cutting template for sheet filters is supplied.
  • Integral petal-style lens hood: An integral lens hood effectively blocks off-axis light that can cause flare and ghosting. The supplied lens cap covers the hood, attaching easily and locking securely with the hood at any angle.
  • Accessories Included: Lens hood, Lens front cap, Lens rear cap, case

    Super wide angle lens

First super wide angle lens. Initially purchased for future real estate projects. Along with being lightweight this lens in has a fast aperture of 1.8, ideal for low light situations. Versatile prime, see photo examples below. The lens came with a lens bag and cover+a template for cutting out gel filters. Lines are straight even with the super wide, and distortion is minimal. Auto focus works wonders, I’d highly recommend this lens if you are looking for a creative, and wide angle lens.

    Best in photo and video.

This was the first lens I bought with my a7rIV and thought it was fantastic from the start. Even after using multiple other G master lenses and now the new a7siii with video, this lens still reigns supreme in quality. It can also be used as macro to an extent. The focusing capabilities are so good that it can track up to just three feet away from the lens. I know zoom lenses are popular and give you multiple focal lengths, but the speed and sharpness of the this lens is unparalleled. Just about any shot taken with this lens gives you detail and an artistic look. I cannot utter enough praise for this magnificent glass.

    Simply Sharp

An incredible lens! Super fast autofocusing and sharp images. Paired with my A73, it's nearly impossible to get Abad shot. The bokeh? Super creamy! Simply put, you will not regret buying this lens. Yes, it's not cheap but worth saving up for. I own a few GM lenses (24-70gm, 70-200gm, and 85gm) and this is my new favorite portrait lens. I don't see this coming off my camera body anytime soon.

With Sony cameras it a good travel lens, you do have trade offs though, it’s all electronic, feels a little mushy but it’s has a great range and is supper sharp.

For a light weight video rig it can’t be beat.

    Fantastic Lens

After testing out the 3 all-in-one Sony E mount zoom lenses on my Sony A7ii, this is far and away my favorite. Beautiful clarity & depth on variety of lighting & distances. Appreciated the ability to go manual or use the excruciatingly slow power zoom, which was great for videos but frustrating for trying to capture normal life. This is my choice for everyday lens for nature & wildlife. Comparing this with the Sony 24-240, shooting 200 on the power zoom blows away the 240 on clarity, when I found I could easily read a distant detailed sign using the power zoom, but nowhere near as well with the 24-240. Appreciate having stabilizing in the lens.

    Best GM lens

G Master definitely represents the top of the line lens for Sony. My camera is the A9ii which is meant for all GM glass. Buying this lens exceeded all my expectations. Sharp from corner to corner. Remember Sony Cameras and lens can go much higher on F stop mean F10 and above for outdoors and high ISO. Night its tack sharp at 2.8 as well. Do not waste time by trying to go cheap if you already invested in a top notch camera.

    Sharp sharp sharp

What can I say? This is hands down the best of the best when it comes to “budget full-frame lenses”.

This lens has 100% professional grade optics, Sony is just literally flexing with their extreme attention to quality whilst choosing the elements and their orientation when designing this budget lens.

The 85mm to me, is a must have focal length in any kit for both video and photos..if you love super fast autofocus, tack sharp pixels, and most importantly the creamiest, buttery bokeh you can find on a sub $600 lens...

    Well then you my friend,

Need to stop searching and SLAM that ever so attractive and devilishly shy, school bus yellow “Add to Cart” button and thank me later when you get compliments left and right on your workflow and how beautifully the ultra compressed depth of field that you managed to capture looks...

Seriously though. Get the lens. Best $500ish dollars I’ve ever spent.

    Do it

    Stay Sony Shooting My Friends

    Cadillac of Portrait Lenses

As a new photographer, I did quite a bit of research about what portrait lens to invest in and while the 50mm is the most widely regarded – this consistently came up as a favorite among photographers, and I'm happy to share that it was a great option for me. If you shoot outdoors portraits or in large spaces, this is the lens for you. Beware this lens is pretty expensive, so do your research to determine which focal length is going to work best for you.

The 85mm f1.8 is a must-have for the a7 iii Sony. I'm super impressed with the clarity and sharpness of this lens. Super smooth bokeh, weather / dust sealed, and @ the sale price of $549, you kind of can't beat it.

I'm super happy. BestBuy / Montrose was a big help. Their full service camera department is the best!

    Great portrait lens

I bought this less to replace my 50mm since it wasn’t a full frame lens. I used it on a photo shoot doing some portraits. The picture came out amazing, the boca really made the picture pop. My clients were extremely happy with the pictures. I would definitely recommend this lens to anyone trying to add to the collection, or to anyone needing a great portrait lens.

    Very impressive

I found out with my Sony’s a 7ii the Lens is what really makes the performance of the camera more effective. This lens help me to appreciate the technical work that went to building the camera and lens. I don’t know why the manufacture doesn’t offer a better kit lens to go with the camera . They will sale more. That why I don’t buy the camera with the kit lens . I love this lens . I love the Modesto store there Camera department is above average the time ,effort and patience. Thanks to G.M . Josh

    Sharp Crisp Fast

Very expensive but it’s a super nice lens! I was totally amazed at how sharp my pictures are. This lens is awesome for sports, I’ve shot basketball games and have had some great shots. It’s very fast and this will help get that action shot. It’s not my go to for landscape shooting but I recommend it for everything else. Great bokeh for portraits. 2.8 all the way through is sweet. If you are considering anything else because of price, hold off a little longer and save up for this bad boy. Wife had a heart attack when she found out what I spent but she understood after she seen the shots of the kids.

    Sports, Portraits, Photo-Ninja Tool

This is probably one of the fastest auto-focusing lenses I've ever used. Previous to this, I was using a Canon 70-200 2.8 IS V2, and that was an exemplary lens all on its own. However, this Sony version is just as sharp as that lens and this comes in at a smaller size, plus, its ability to work with Sony's eye-tracking makes this the better lens overall. Its on the pricier side but if you know your use for it (e.g. sports, events, etc.) its something that you need to have so that you never miss the shot when you need it most. It's worth saving up for and as I write this review, it looks like its price and value hasn't changed much since its first release, so its definitely 'worth the shot'. Enjoy!

    Superb Quality

Impressive Quality, but a heavy beast. I initially purchased the F4, but returned it a week later for the F2.8, and I am so glad I did. The difference is clear in terms of build and image quality. I can see the tiny hairs on my dog shooting free hand from appx 30 ft away. The large aperture lets me 8ncrease the shutter speed further to freeze her in motion. The focus is quick, consistent, and constant. Love it and I dont regret the 3k with insurance just in case.

Paid $2200 online and box came with lower price

The lens works great! This message is for Best Buy management! When you ship of a lens you can not ship it off with a different price on the box. I understand that I purchased this product as open box. The thing that really made me upset that when I got the product in the mail it had an open box stick of $1775 and when I bought it online they sold it to me for $2200, not cool!! When I called customer service they told me I have to take it to a store to see if they could something about it. They only thing is that I live 2 hrs away from the nearest bestbuy. I big inconvenience for me and my family especially during COVID. Best Buy please label your product carefully and don’t send a box to your customers with a different price especially when it’s lower. I’m up set because I feel they were trying to sell it for a lower price!! Won’t be buying gear there anymore!

    Great Prime Lens!

I was debating whether to buy this or the Sony FE 50mm 1.8 ($200). But, decided to drop the cash for the Zeiss lens and am not regretting it. The quality of photos are amazing and the lens is virtually silent, which is great for videos! The build quality is what you expect. The focus ring is smooth as butter. This lens will be my everyday lens for now. I highly recommend this for all A7/A9 owners, although works awesome with the A6000 series too!

This is a premium lens close to the common 55mm. This focal length tends towards a small size -- this one larger than lesser 50mm lenses, but is a bit smaller than most other zooms and primes.

    Best 55mm in its class

I have tried the Sony 50mm, Minolta MD 55mm f1.8 and back in the day my Canon nifty-fifty. Among all the ones I tried this lens outperforms everyone else, of course its the Zeiss and much better build quality.

Where it shines in comparison to other 55/50mm lenses is that the contrast is very good. Bokeh is better as well.

I will update this review later with images after extensive testing.

If I could only have 1 lens attached to my a7Rii

    PRO's

This lens is simply a workhorse, from wide angle landscape to portrait, this has become the lens I always have with my a7Rii. I haven't noticed any vignette or issues at the edges from 24 to 70mm wide open. The bokeh is impressive and almost perfectly round in all situations (quality glass and 11 blades), when wide open, this really makes your subject pop. I use the zoom lock all the time and love the focus lock button. The focus is fast, though it has a minimal noise at times (not enough to show up on video, but it is there). I suspect when I get the a7R Mark III the focus will be faster. This lens seems built for many body upgrades down the road, and I feel like I have invested wisely. EVERY shot out of this lens impresses!!! It connects very solidly to both my a7R Mark II and a6500.

    CON's

    It's pricey at $2,200.

It's a tad on the heavy side, though understandably.

Lens hood is plastic, though it seems durable

Lens comes with a nice carry bag, I wish they had 24-70GM embroidered on the outside, because when you have 4 G Master lenses all in the same carry bags, I end up opening a few to find the one I'm looking for (btw, this is a GOOD problem to have, just making the comment in case Sony is listening ;-)

They don't make a 2x teleconverter for this lens like they do for the 70-200 GM. So, to complete your trinity, consider 16-35GM and 70-200GM

This lens didn't get as high of a review from dxomark.com as I would have expected, but from my usage of it so far, I'm very impressed with this lens. Though arguably it does really good compared to other 24-70 lenses in its class, it just can't compete with clarity ratings from some of the higher end prime lenses. Do not let this keep you from considering this lens. At $2,200 I would highly recommend renting it for a day or two first and seeing if it works for you on your camera and if it is worth the high price tag or not.

  • Advanced Optical Performance: The FE 35mm F1.4 GM delivers incredible G Master quality and performance in a compact and lightweight design, ideal for any occasion.
  • Beautiful, natural-looking bokeh: While the two XA elements effectively suppress onion ring bokeh, the 11-blade circular aperture maximizes the beauty of this large-aperture prime-lens.

  • 52.5mm equivalent on APS-C bodies: The FE 35mm F1.4 G Master lens is highly recommended for APS-C as well as full-frame users. It balances well on smaller APS-C format bodies, providing a very useful focal length of 52.5mm.

  • An ED glass element: An ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element significantly reducing flare and ghosting by taking axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration (due to differences in magnification) out of the picture.
  • Dust and moisture resistant for robust reliability: The dust and moisture resistant design make this lens appropriate for heavy-duty outdoor use, especially when combined with a camera that employs weather resistant measures.
  • XD Linear Motors for fast, precise, quiet focusing: The FE 35mm F1.4 G Master lens incorporates a precision internal focus mechanism consisting of two XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors that easily keep up with the high-speed capabilities of today’s most advanced camera bodies.
  • Natural, linear manual focus response: Linear Response MF (manual focus) ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle control when focusing manually.
  • Close-ups with stunning bokeh: The two XA lens elements plus innovative mechanical, optical and control technology achieve a minimum focusing distance of just 10.6” with a maximum magnification of 0.23x, making it possible to shoot impressive close-ups.
  • Instant auto/manual focus selection: Instantly and quickly switch between auto and manual focus via an AF/MF switch on the side of the lens. This makes operation faster and easier as you let the camera and lens focus for you or decide to take control and manually focus on the precise point you choose.
  • Customizable multi-function focus hold button: The focus hold button not only performs its primary function to lock focus when recomposing but can be customized via the camera body menu settings to a number of other functions depending on your needs.
  • Accepts a variety of filters: Unlike many other wide-angle lenses, the FE 35mm F1.4 G Master Lens accepts 67mm filters.

    Best 35mm out there.

I've had this lens for a month now, and it has become my favorite lens. The images off this come out so sharp even wide open. The focal length is perfect for environmental portraits. It has some beautiful bokeh, and the falloff is superb! There's is some vignetting, but that's easily fixed in post. The focus breathing is very obvious when using in manual mode, but it's less noticable when just using it on AF. For photography, it has to be one of the best lenses Sony has put out.

I researched a single lens that would capture most of my everyday moments and for street photography. I ended up with this 35mm GM lens at the top of the list; however, many have noticed it is not an inexpensive lens. Not being a pro photographer nor rich, it took a minute to decide. After having this lens for a few weeks, I do not have buyer's remorse. I wish I had a zoom lens on a couple of occasions, but the finished product this lens produces without editing is impressive.

Note: Some of the pics attached are edited.

I really enjoy this lens. I shoot in the Sony a7 ii. It was a hard decision between this and the 50mm. I’m so glad I went with this! Crystal clear images, great autofocus & manual focus.

Crisp, Clean, Lives up to the hype!

This is such a versatile lens. It’s always been my dream lens and I finally got it last month. It lived up to all of my expectations. Actually, it exceeded them. So far I’ve shot portraits, flower photos, animal photos, and even done some street photography with it. The mechanics of this lens are amazing. I almost went with the Sigma but after watching reviews I chose to go with the G-Master and I’m so glad I did. The better quality is well worth the extra money.

    The lens is great... but...

I love this lens. It's super fun to go out and do some macro shots. I like it for portraits too, just be careful with your settings to get as much in focus as you can.

The thing that left me wanting on this purchase was the abysmal support from best buy. I've been a fairly loyal customer, and after a few days of promising the kens would ve ready for pick up, only to have it delayed without explanation was a bit infuriating. I lost my feeling of being a valued customer.

Awesome lens for macro and portraits.

This lens is awesome for macro or portraits. If it made for use with a full frame body like the a7 series, but I am using it with an a6300 and I am still happy with the performance of it. Compared to the 30mm macro lens that is around 1/3 the cost, I think the price justifies the performance if you can afford it.

I am very happy with this 90 mm f2.8 macro lens

I purchased this 90 mm macro lens to use with my new Sony a7iii and I am very pleased with the combined performance! The sharpness of the lens is exceptional and both the AF and MF are able to hit the sweet spot! I was surprised by the lens slide to engage the AF rather than a switch. Once I used it I actually prefer it. I have also used it for Landscape work and it does well in that environment. I do not do any portrait work so can not comment.

    Super Sharp

Love this Lens! I use it on the a6000 so it acts like a 135mm focal length. This lens is very sharp. The auto focus can be a little slow when it is hunting through the full range, but it does have the focus range selector switch to speed it up. Very happy with the over all performance.

    Sony - FE 12-24mm F2.8 G MASTER Full-frame Constant-aperture Ultra-wide Zoom Lens - Black
    Description

Introducing the world’s widest full-frame constant F2.8 lens at 12-24mm. Spectacular G Master resolution and drastically reduced chromatic aberration is realized from 3x Extreme Aspheric, 1x Aspheric, 2x Super ED (Extra-low dispersion) and 3x ED elements. Nano AR coating II suppresses reflections, flare and ghosting while the constant F2.8 and 9-blade circular aperture delivers on beautiful bokeh. Fast, precise autofocus tracking comes from 4x XD (Extreme Dynamic) linear motors.

    13 Features
  • World’s widest full-frame constant F2.8 12-24mm zoom: Introducing the world’s widest full-frame constant F2.8 aperture zoom lens1 with 12-24mm focal length. The ultra-wide 12mm fills your frame with full scenes of Landscapes, architecture, street views and even sports.
  • Crisp clear images: Three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements that reduce chromatic aberration, plus two Super ED glass elements that provide even more powerful chromatic aberration suppression, combine to minimize color fringing in high contrast scenes which challenge wide angle lenses.
  • New Nano AR Coating II enhances clarity: A new Nano AR Coating II has been developed that can be evenly applied to large lens elements or highly curved element surfaces to suppress internal reflections and minimize flare and ghosting for clear, crisp imagery.
  • XD Linear Motors achieve outstanding AF performance: The FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM employs four high-speed, high-thrust XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors, two for each of the lens’s focus groups, for fast, precise continuous autofocus and tracking.
  • Dust and moisture resistant: The dust and moisture resistant design make this lens appropriate for heavy-duty outdoor use, especially when combined with a camera that employs weather resistant measures, providing the reliability needed in challenging conditions.
  • Beautiful G Master Bokeh: Fine tuning of the lens’s spherical aberration characteristics during both design and manufacture contributes to its impressive blend of high resolution and smooth bokeh.
  • Customizable multi-function focus hold button: A focus hold button, focus mode switch, zoom ring, focus ring, and other controls are designed and positioned for easy operation and a smooth workflow.
  • Natural, linear manual focus response: Linear Response MF (manual focus) ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle control when focusing manually. Focus ring rotation translates directly to a corresponding change in focus, so control feels immediate and precise.
  • Instant auto/manual focus selection: Instantly and quickly switch between auto and manual focus via an AF/MF switch on the side of the lens. This makes operation faster and easier as you let the camera and lens focus for you or decide to take control and manually focus on the precise point you choose.
  • Fluorine front element coating: The front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants, while making it easier to wipe off any contaminants or fingerprints that do become attached to the lens surface.
  • Integral petal-style lens hood: An integral lens hood effectively blocks off-axis light that can cause flare and ghosting. The supplied lens cap covers the hood, attaching easily and locking securely with the hood at any angle.
  • Moviemaking advantage: The FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM lens has clear advantages for moviemaking. With an ultra-wide 12mm angle of view, four XD (Extreme Dynamic) Linear Motors for fast, precise and quiet autofocus and tracking, this lens is ideal for all types of content creators.
  • 35mm equivalent on APS-C and Super-35bodies: The FE 12-24mm F2.8 GM lens is highly recommended for full-frame as well as APS-C and Super-35 users. It balances well on smaller format bodies, providing a very useful wide-angle focal length of 18-36mm (35mm full-frame format equivalent).

    Wider than iPhone 12 lens

So yes, it does give you a fisheye effect on the edges at 12mm. But either way, it is a sharp lens! I did astro and i LOVED how my timelapse came out. I love the wide angle. I can deal with the curbed edges, its not that bad, for me personally. I dont have anything bad to sag about it. If you like astro, landscape, or creative shots this is the lens for you.

This lens is wider then my widest angle on my iphone 12

Oh now that I think about it, its way too expensive..

    Revolutionary wide angle beast

I think most photographers have been waiting for a lens with these specs for some time. Sony upped the game by creating the first 12-24mm f/2.8 lens EVER. I was initially a little worried about distortion and vignetting with such a wide lens, but they're both actually pretty minimal even wide open at 12mm.

It should come as no surprise that this lens produces top image quality given that it's part of Sony's G Master lineup. Images are impressively sharp wide open at f/2.8 and obviously sharpness increases a bit by stopping down.

Sony's new Nano AR II coating does an amazing job at removing ghosting and flares when shooting in difficult lighting. I was shocked at the clarity and contrast in my images when shooting into the sun.

Astrophotography with this lens is a DREAM. There are very few lens imperfections; stars are sharp white dots from center to corners, which made me a very happy astro shooter. It's pretty incredible to be able to use a 20 second shutter speed without seeing any star trails.

As a Sony Alpha Imaging Collective Member, I've been fortunate enough to use just about every G Master lens created, and this has become one of my favorites. Overall it completes my Sony G Master zoom trio from 12mm-200mm, and I highly recommend it if you're in the market for a fast, wide zoom.

Known as one of many lenses that can photograph the sky within the darkness and it works as advertised. Sony's engineering with their digital lenses has just scratched the surface what the scientific method is capable within digital video and photography. The future for mirrorless is bright and what lies beyond the the horizon is anyone's guess.

    Great single solution (almost) lens

A very good lens. It's OSS is phenomenal. It just can't be used with the built-in flash because it's big enough to cast a shadow. So if flash might be needed on a photographic excursion one has to also carry the 16-50 kit lens. But flash is seldom wanted, anyway. At 18mm there is some distortion, but going up just a few mm makes it better while retaining f/3.5. OSS wise, I've shot fairly sharp pictures at 200mm and 1/15 second, hand held! Two pictures, both taken at 200mm and cropped/resized to 1620x1080, are attached. The moon shot is the sharpest I've ever got.

    A great complement

i tried the kit lens with the Sony Nex-5 and SEL1855. Loved it. Upgraded to an A5100 with the SEL1650. I liked the camera but found the kit lens lacking (especially at the widest settings). So, I tried the the SEL55210. I loved the lightness and image quality from this other kit lens. However, I found myself having to change lenses frequently. So, I opted for the SEL18200LE. Image quality is great, much lighter than the SELP18200 or original SEL18200. Those just add so much bulk to the camera. With this lens, I can really play with depth of field in my pictures. The photos have been great.

    Great lens with minor flaws

I spent 2 months trying to figure out if I wanted to shell out the cash for this lens. I committed when I had to take a trip and didn't want to carry 2 different lenses. The lens did not disappoint. I have had it for 2months now and I still love it. The wide range is perfect for a variety of shots and alleviates the need for carrying additional products. The downside as mentioned in other reviews is the "creep". The lens will open if camera is pointing down(gravity always wins) but this can fixed by hitting the "lock" button on the lens. The zoom seems a bit stiff but I don't mind that because it makes it easier to adjust in small increments when taking pics.

    I really love this lens

this actually is a replacement. I bought one before. I love how it, along with the camera, are so small and fit into a carry on bag on the plane. I took it traveling to many different countries. The range of the zoom is what really sells it. You only need this one lens for wide angle shots as well as telephoto ones. The quality of the shots is excellent. Unfortunately I dropped and broke my lens, so I immediately replaced it with a new one.

    Great Buy

I am very satisfied with this lens. Recently shot a wedding, and a few other shots being a newer photographer. I really enjoy this lens replacing the kit 55-210mm. Not 100% as sharp as I would like but it's a minimal complaint. I have been able to capture some pretty decent shots, even as a novice. It might be slightly on the more expensive side, but again, starting out it is worth it. Makes learning a lot more easy.

The wide angle to zoom range is fantastic for my needs. Great or event photography where you sometimes have to zoom a bit to get a candid. Also good for outdoor. What a sharp full frame lens to pair perfectly with my a7RIV. I'm no pro by any means but this lens has helped me take some great quality pictures. Works extremely well in low light. I travel frequently and have picked up photography as a hobby to capture the beautiful landscapes. The color definitely pops more with this lens than my previous Nikon cropped sensor lenses. The detail is there! Even zoomed in the pictures retain their quality. This is a very pricey lens, however if you can afford it I would splurge on it. The focal length is good for many different types of photography.

    LITERALLY IDENTICAL TOO 20MM 1.8

No disrespect to G MASTER GEEKS but if you do this more for a hobby and for fun and maybe somewhat get paid in the future I'd go with the 20mm G lens over this lens literally owned both of these and it was no different..YOUTUBERS who are paid to tell you things will say GM GM GM ....sony did such a great job on the 20mm 1.8 that is 2yrs newer in technology that it should be labeled a GM ...in my opinion this lens was not worth 500 dollars more...you don't have to be professional to have 20/20 vision or have the eye for photography...I put average because its a great lens but way too close to a 20mm 1.8 this lens is actually sharper at 1.7 which matches the sharpness of the 20mm do as you please but I won't make 1500 doing this for my hobby so I took this back to avoid 15% restocking fee and kept my 20mm 1.8..

    Worth every penny!

As soon as I saw the option to "Add to Cart" I bought it, and received it 4 days later. It's simply an AMAZING lens. Its sharp, light and fun to use. No need to really go into detail, Its a G master lens that produces G master quality, its that simple. I also own the 16-35 f4, 24-70 Gm, and the 85 f1.8. I plan to use this lens for Astro, landscape, street, and creative portraits. Im making this my main lens if i ever need to just carry one. I've been doing a lot of street photography in NYC and being that its f1.4, the shots i take at night are sharp and crisp. The bokeh is also great, I love how the colors come out of this lens. If you're a photographer who prints large photos, You're going to love the detail and sharpness this lens offers.

All things considered not a bad lens.

This review is purely my opinion only. Overall pretty good lens. Considering the price not a great value and that it is not made in Japan, hence minus one star. Should Sigma release a DG DN version it will no doubt it will cost about half the Sony G lens and match the G lens performance. Until then, the Sony G lens will have to suffice. While it does surpass the Sigma 150-600 C lens, with a MC-11 adapter, in nearly all regards expect price, I suspect the untrained eye will not be able to tell the final images apart. To match my shooting style, I mated a NISI Ti UV filter and installed a Wimberley foot. Hand holding is not a problem as the lens optical stabilization and Sony (7iii) camera IBIS work fine together. Be aware the lens is longer compared to the Sigma lens and may require you to purchase a larger capacity photo bag or backpack like that made by ThinkTank which could set you back a couple of hundred. I tossed in some snapshots just for fun.

Sharp, quick to focus. Perfect for Wildlife!

Upgraded from the Sigma 150-600, and wow what a difference! Focusing is absolutely lightning fast and accurate. The only difficulty is with small birds that are more than 50 feet away, but you can easily overcome that with single-point autofocus. Anything bigger than a dollar is a piece of cake to track and get tack sharp photos of. I will recommend this to anyone shooting wildlife with a Full Frame Sony camera!

Great portrait lens for Sony Mirrorless system

The FE 50mm 1.4 is a necessity for any portrait photographer using the Sony Mirrorless Full-Frame System. Brilliant bokeh is easy with the max aperture of f/1.4. It's also an incredibly versatile lens, as I have used this lens for astrophotography on occasion.

Fantastic lens but a bit pricey

I ordered this as my first lens when purchasing my Sony A7R III. Clearly a nice, great quality lens. Even includes a nice bag if you need to store it. Having the aperture ring on the lens is a nice touch and of course it being a 1.4 makes it a very fast lens.

If you can afford it, definitely worth it.

Owning this lens has been a dream of mine!

All I can say is wow! For a wide angle zoom lens this thing is insanely Sharp and the autofocus is quite fast! Ever since I switched over to Sony full-frame cameras I have dreamt about having this wide angle, unfortunately Sony prices aren't too nice on your pockets so it took a while to pull the trigger! lol but they are quite amazing pieces of Technology. This would definitely be a 10 out of 10 recommend although it's very pricey it's a beautiful piece of equipment to have in your camera bag! It's absolutely perfect for Real Estate and gimbal work!

This lens is a specialty lens. Like all specialty lenses the cost are high.

There's no other way to capture views this wide but by using ultra wide angle lenses.

This is my 1st choice of all ultra wide angle lenses.

If only could choose 4 lenses to have this would be one of the 4.

    Beautiful Lens for Street Photos

I own an A6000, I have the kit lens, the 50 1.8, and the 55-210. Those lens are like the super starter pack and I figured I wouldn't need anything else. I rented a 35mm Zeiss and was very disappointed by it. I looked at this lens and I kept seeing it go out of stock over and over and over again so when it finally came up again I bought it. I got it in and I was really impressed. I opened it with the Best Buy Camera supervisor and he was mind blown with me. The photos are amazingly sharp, the focal distance was perfect for me! The colors are one of the first things that popped out to me when I took a picture. If I'm able to edit this review I will put up some pictures of this beauty. The build quality makes my other lens feel really cheap, (although they kinda are lol) and it comes with a really cool case. Definitely recommend this lens for any A6000 user if you have the money for it. It's my new favorite lens.

    Amazing lens

More accurately I'd give it a 4.5 because auto focus isnt as great as other Sony lenses, but the quality, colors, build all make up for it by alot. This hasnt left my A6000 since and I even sold my other lenses because the quality of this convinced me to upgrade my other lens. Definitely buy it, if you need a wide angle lens or something for street photography. How close you can get with this lens is also amazing!

This lens is superb .it has all the features you want from a cine lens . Super sharp no focus breathing and holds focus through all focal ranges. Not to mention this lens is also a great one for photography its auto focus is quick and precise. Extremely minimal distortion and phenomenal built in imagine stabilization. I purchased this lens first over my 16-35 and 70-200 Sony lenses if I had to choose a lens to keep on my A7s body it would be this one. If your even considering this diamond ....just buy it you won't regret it considering anything close to this costs 3-4 Times the ammount !

Great Cine lens for the Sony E-mount

A great Cine lens for the Sony E-mount cameras. Lens is quite big but what do you expect for such great quality. This lens is also a parfocal lens so when you zoom in it will stay in focus on your subject. It's also an power zoom so they are buttery smooth. Don't expect to do super quick zooms though. This is a great complement to the A7S cameras but will work for all A7 and A6500/6300 cameras.

Only con I would say is the price.

Great ASP-C Prime Lens for Sony a6000 Series

This is a great prime lens for portraits and mid-range distance shots. I purchased a Sony a6600 recently and I am relatively new to photography. I originally purchased a Sony 50mm without realizing that the a6000 series cameras are built with cropped sensors. So the crop factor is 1.5x, therefore it was a 75mm lens instead of a true 50mm. Well this 35mm lens puts it at 52.5mm which is close enough. It works really well at close range for portraits and when taking pictures of scenery or larger objects. Photographs taken at shorter distance look way better then at a longer distance so I would use this lens for portraits and close ups. This is an ASP-C lens so I would not purchase this if you have a full frame camera. The lens small and lightweight making it great for traveling or if you want a lighter setup. It also works really well in low light but hot here are a few trade offs. You’re going to have to raise the ISO (which adds more grain to the photo) or lower the shutter speed (which tends to make the photos blurry if you don’t have steady hands) I posted some photographs to show what this lens is capable of paired with the a6600 (I edited them in Lightroom after).

    Great lens

I decided to go with the 35mm lens over the 50mm. 35 let's you get more in the shot while being closer. I mainly take pictures of my daughter, playing, at Disney or just regular still shots of her posing for me. The light this lens allows in is amazing. I love how much more this lens looks than the lens I got with the camera bundle. Everyone ask what camera I am using. I tell the it's Sony A6000 but I tell them it's the 35mm lens as well.

    Photography at its simplest

Haven't fiddled with this lens too much yet, but the little I have, I'm impressed, and already planning more photo-outings with it.

Attached to my NEX-6, this provides a package that is just fun to use, especially with the camera set to A (aperture priority). The f/1.8 is fast, and means that this lens can take great images when light is low, and no flash is possible/allowed/desired. It also means great bokeh, and with the 35/f18 lens, it is beautifully blurred in the background, while your subject is incredibly focused, meaning the subject is what you look at - not so much the background.

With its fixed focal length, you (the photographer) is the zoom. Move closer or further away to get the perspective you're looking for.

Some have said (elsewhere) that the lens isn't the sharpest at f/1.8, but my limited experience with it so far hasn't revealed any issues. I've attached a couple of my first images I took with the lens; nothing artistic, but they do let you see bokeh (DoF or depth-of-field) and low-light capabilities.

As I mentioned, I'm just looking forward to more time with this lens - and the NEX-6 as well...

This is a sharp lens and is highly reviewed for a reason. I can attest to that. It has been my primary lens for portraits and street photography. I use this lens 90% of the time on my Sony A7ii. It is intended for APS-C but still fits this camera. It won't be 35mm because of the crop factor. There will be no vignette if you set it up on auto crop.

    Love this lens

I have never spent over a $1000 on a lens until now. As long as I’m already spending the money on a superb camera, Sony a7iii, it didn’t make any sense to buy a mediocre lens for. After some considerable reviews, I decided on this Sony 24-105mm OSS as my first lens with a high probability that it remains as my primary lens down the road. My first impression was that this lens was HUGE. As with any camera lens, I strongly advised purchasing a UV filter. The filter size for lens is 72mm, considerably larger then my old Canon lens filter. It felt like it weighed more than the camera body. The larger the lens, e more photons it can pick up. The better the lens quality, the sharper the image. Together, it makes a superb lens. So far I used this lens to take photos of my daughter soccer games while sitting high up in the bleachers, taking photos of family activities, group photos, everyday street activities, macro shots of dragon flies and flowers. photos taken indoors without flash, and outdoors under various lighting conditions, Photos of my daughter soccer games after cropping to zoom in on the subjects looked surprisingly sharp. I can honestly say that all of the photos I’ve taken so far have been very impressive. I attributed that to the camera and the lens. The OSS Keep the image steady even under low lighting. There are times when taking photos with a flash is prohibited or not optimal, the stabilization feature on this lens is the best I’ve seen so far. Professional reviewers said as much and I can see why. I still rely on my tripod for long exposure shooting. Can’t see myself holding the camera on a subject for when doing long exposure such as that of the night landscape. Do I recommend the lens. The answer is YES, YES, and YES. Is it worth the money? The answer again is a resounding yes. Do I think the lens is expensive? I do. It is definitely not cheap. There are other lens companies such as Tamron that also make good lenses that can potentially be cheaper than this Sony lens. I however chose this over all others because of the overwhelming I read about it. Another thing to consider is that not all lenses are suited for every shooting situations. You have to think about what you primary use it for then pick a lens that best suited for it.

Nice All Around Lens for Travel

The first lens I bought to complement a new A7 m3 body. I have found it to be a very handy every day lens for many reasons. I was able to take some nice shots while taking advantage of the full range of the zoom. It is limited by the f4 but you have to pay much more for the faster lens options. I recently used the lens for a family reunion followed by a trip to Capitol Reef National Park. It really handled it all quite well.

Having owned cameras and lenses from nearly every digital camera system, I can say that this is my favorite walk around zoom lens I’ve ever owned. The images are outstanding and the AF speed is right there with it. I would recommend every new Sony shooter to purchase this as their first lens!

    Great all around lens!

I've been using this lens for about a month already and can see why it's so good. It's better than the kit lens by far. The extra 35 in reach vs a 24-70 comes in handy. The quality full open is sharp and clear.

I haven't pixel peeped and you'll see how close it is to the GM on YouTube if you look. F4 hasn't stopped me from recording video at night, and it helps to have an A7III that has a high tolerance for noise.

As a video lens it's great because it has OSS(Optical steady shot) built in and helps with the shaking. On a gimbal it is fantastic.

As expected, it lives with my expectations

I’ve been researching about this lens for about 6mo.

A good all around lens. Its clarity and performance lives up with my expectations. The split decision when your shooting flowers and suddenly you need a zoom for a bird perch on a twig type of a lens.

    Great do it all lens!

Clear, sharp, lots of range.... AND 1/2 the price of the comparable GM lens that only does 24-70! Of course not as fast as the GM bit f4 works out great for most!

Went to see Ella Mai and was extremely torn on this lens vs the 35mm, but after multiple demo shots I went with 50mm for my Sony a6300. Compact, light weight, bokeh is awesome and the low aperture makes this lens a beast in low light. Thanks Best Buy!

    Great prime

This lens actually deseves 4.5 stars. The sharpness is excellent and AF and OSS work very well. My only complaint so far is that there is no manual focus override built into the lens. If there was a switch on the lens like Nikon uses instead of diving into a menu to activate MF, this lens would easily rate 5 stars. It's a solid, lightweight prime that is a joy to use on my A6000.

The only choice in Sony wide angle zoom

I recently switched from Nikon to Sony and having had the the Nikon 14-24mm, I wanted something comparable for my A7R for my landscape needs. This lens fills that need very well and has a more useable zoom range. It's a stop slower but not an issue with the sensitivity of the latest sensors being produced. Very sharp with minimal distortion.

Great Bang for the buck wide lens for Sony E-Mount

There are a lot of reviews online for this lens, so there's not much more that I can add other than this is the wide lens to get, if you're on a budget and have an A7III body.

Losing a stop of light, compared to the Sony G-Master version is mitigated by the fact that the A7III has clean, usable, imaging up to ISO 10k, so to me, it was worth the $1,000 bucks in savings over the G-Master version.

One thing to note is that the body does extend out when you change focal length, so if you're planning on using it with a gimbal, know this up front. It may require minor adjustment to gimbal balance if you zoom in with this lens on. Otherwise a great overall lens for the money!

    20mm G or 24mm G Master

This was my decision. I wanted a lens just for Astro photography. After watching countless YouTube videos, I decided the extra 4 mm was more important than the 1.4 aperture. The price also helped with this. The lens feels solid and well made. I had another 20mm with f2.8 and it just wasn’t letting enough light in do get the Milky Way acceptable for my taste. I’m really happy with the results and purchase. I’d love to show you some results but the Best Buy app isn’t letting me upload my pictures, maybe the files are too large. I shoot with A7iii come on Best Buy, I’m not reducing the quality on pictures when that’s part of the selling point.

    slow/failure to focus/inconsistent stabilization

I also have the FE 70-300 g lens. This e 70-350 is slimmer and 200g lighter with smoother zooming. I had trouble with very slow focusing or failure to focus at all focal lengths not just the far end. The image stabilization was also hit or miss- I experienced blurry images or failure to focus in 50% or more of my shots. The shots that came out were great and sharp but the failure rate was too high so I returned the lens. None of my other lenses have this issue so I’m not sure if I got a bad copy or if it’s the nature of this lens model?

There are other choices from other manufacturers as well as from Sony, but I've always had the best experience with native lenses on Sony cameras. This one is reasonably compact and relatively light yet still has significant reach (35mm equivalent is 525mm), is pretty sharp, has good manual focus capability and is reasonably priced as well. Excellent value.

    Small, Solid and Sharp

So I did a test, put on my 55mm 1.8 Zeiss, then put this little beauty on. Its a perfect compliment, length wise, however sharpness and color quality are near identical. Looks pretty much the same as noted as one of the best lenses out there according to DxO, the 55mm. This 28 is probably the best bang for your buck. Now I do mostly all video, the focus ring and compactness of this are exactly what I was looking for. On the picture side, its the same. Creates beautiful stills. I HIGHLY recommend this lens for any a7 series owner, hands down.

    Excellent image quality.

Was looking for a prime wide angle lens and decided to go with this one. Sharp pics all around. Great investment. I use it on my Sony A7ii. This lens is on my camera 90% of the time.

Great things CAN come in small packages!

At first I wasn't sure what to expect from this lens. I transitioned to Sony from the Canon ecosystem, where I had invested thousands and thousands of dollars in bodies and Canon L glass. The sole G-Master lens I have (the 70-200mm) has totally rocked my world, but this lens almost seemed like a toy in comparison, and I was a bit hesitant regarding the image quality I could get out of this thing.

I can start right off by saying I have no regrets in picking up this lens. It is very sharp with minimal distortion at the edges. There is a little bit of chromatic abberation in the corners, but that is easily fixed in Lightroom.

When I zoom in as far as I can in Lightroom, the image pixellates before it blurs. This thing it tack sharp in the center. It does tend to soften a bit as you get to the edges. Wide open, it's still pretty sharp, but as with most lenses, it is sharpest when you stop down a bit to f/6.3 or f/8.

I also purchased the additional wide-angle and fish-eye adapters that fit on the end of this lens. Again, no regrets at all.

If Sony continues to make lenses of this quality, Canikon should not only be nervous about the innovative bodies coming out of the Sony camp, but also the glass they are producing.

    Great walk about prime

I tried using my sony A7II with older MF lenses for a while. They work, but I had some shots that were out of focus. I bit the bullet and shelled out the $ for this lens. I mostly use wide angle and prefer to get up close, mostly events and festivals. I wish I’d have bought it sooner.

    Nice Prime

I needed a fast prime for shooting landscapes at night. The kit lens was good at 28, but too slow. This fits my style of shooting and it does very well at night. The distortion is negligible, but if it's an issue you can correct it in post. Bokeh is nice wide open.

    Nice and versatile

I bought this lens because of the price and I wanted a wider lens. I now use this lens more than any other lens for video. I find the 28 mm to be a very versatile focal length and this particular one is nice and light, focuses quickly gets the job done.

This lens is a challenge for someone who is using it on a crop censor. It can be a tad difficult to dial in this focal length with the magnifier from a crop lens but it is for sure worth the money.

I hope to upgrade to an A7RIII one day and am just getting used to the feel and use of this lens as I wait. Sony shooters - this lens is a must.

    85mm for life

If you're a portrait photographer, 85mm HAS TO BE part of your kit.

I live in a small studio apartment where I have a backdrop and lights set up as if it was a photography studio, I was worried at first about purchasing anything over 50mm because my space is so small, but even with this 85mm I manage to get everything I want in my shots.

Depth a field>? 1.4 is your new best friend.

    Fast sharp lens for portraits.

I use this lens with a Sony A7RM4. I bought this when my newest grandchild arrived. This fast f1.4 lens allowed me to take great shots. I had been using primarily zoom lenses, but there are too many compromises. They are too heavy or too slow and none have an f1.4 which is great for portraits. Even though this lens has been out for a few years, I am impressed by the auto focus and sharpness.

    LOVE IT!!

I was hesitant on this lens because of the f stop, but with the f2.8 being almost double the price I decided to give it a go! I was totally blown away with how much I love this lens! It's super sharp and quick to focus. I've been able to take some amazing photos & video of my fiancé surfing with this lens. Of course video is a little unsteady at 300mm but nothing you can't correct in post! I use this lens primarily outside in good lighting, but I've been able to get some amazing photos out of it in low light setting as well (with the help of Lightroom). Highly recommend!

Terrific lens for nature shots and sports shots

So far I have used this lens mostly on nature trails, but I've used the sports function on my camera - Sony A6000 - and it's fast, super fast. The clarity is crystal clear and it can reach way out there, which is what I need to capture my daughter playing soccer. It's a little heavy, so I can imagine using for a whole game would get tiresome on the shoulders. I would recommend a monopod if you don't already have one.

    Very good intermediate zoom lens.

Lens is very sharp in good light, but not as good in low-light situations. I have only had the lens for about a month and have used it almost exclusively for birds and other wildlife here in South Florida. I'm very happy with the results as I had been using the 55-210 kit lens that came with my a6000. It is a bit heavier than I was used to, but not bad. Iguanas below were well out of range, but cropped ok.

    Sharp and well built!

So far I have no issues with this lens. I bought the lens to compliment my SAL 70200g which is a awesome lens as well but quite a bit bigger.

It is pretty quick focusing in good light but can hunt a little in low light which I expected. Its a pleasure to use. The extra 100mm is appreciated very much on my full frame A7. I plan on using it on my NEX7 as well.

Best 35mm AF Prime on the market if.....

....if you get a good copy.

This is my second copy of this exact lens and I just want to warn everyone that these lenses (this one in particular) have a very high rate of decentering due to poor QA from Sony. Most of these lenses will come misaligned from the factory and most people won't notice it, but for $1,600 this is unacceptable.

Do yourself a favor and get the lens tested and judge for yourself if the high price tag was worth the shotty QC.

    Read More Here: https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2015/10/sony-e-mount-lens-sharpness-bench-tests/

"the 35mm f/1.4 ZA lens is very likely to have some tilt with one corner or side out of the plane of focus. Depending on what you photograph this may make no difference to you, or may be a huge issue. But I doubt sending copy after copy back is going to make much difference (you may trade a soft right upper corner for a slightly soft left side, etc.). We’ve taken a couple of these apart and there’s not a ton of optical adjustments that can be made: there are a set of shims behind the front group that can be modified a bit, but it’s a crude and very time-consuming adjustment, so I don’t think it’s generally going to be something that can be fixed." -Lens Rentals

Quality Sony lens used for urban exploration on my A7SII has allowed me to capture hundreds of shots unobtainable from a different lens.

A hint I did not find while researching - when capturing video with this lens, keep at 16mm focal length, any other length will capture a 'vignette' look of the outside lens casing.

I bought this lens from BB and it arrived very quickly. I use it with both my a7III and my a6400. I mainly use it for photographing my local MiLB Advanced-A baseball team from behind the outfield. It gives me just enough reach to get into the action with clear photos. When I move closer to home plate it blows me away. I highly recommend this lens to anyone that is looking for a fast lens that performs well in low light, but doesn't want to spend G Master money.

    Super Sharp Zoom Lens

This lens really surpassed my expectations. I was skeptical on buying it at first. I was more curious about how I would be able to use a telephoto lens in the shooting environment that I work in and it was more of a challenge to find a way to mix it in my bag. However, after shooting with it for the first time, I was shocked and it had my attention in a great way. Everything is an extreme close-up with this baby compared to my GM 24 - 105m f4 OSS and my Zeiss 16 - 35m f4 OSS which is actually a very intimate perspective on subjects being photographed. The clarity/sharpness of this lens makes that perspective truly remarkable and I don't see how spending over a $1000 more for the f2.8 could be justified. I highly recommend this lens and challenge you to see how you can put it to use in your bag!

    Excellent Build and Picture Quality

I bought this lens to replace the 55-210mm kit lens I had for my Sony a6500 mirrorless camera. Let me say, I am BLOWN AWAY by the sharpness of this lens and how solid it feels. While it does have some weight to it, the constant f/4 aperture is truly amazing. I take lots of photos in a dimly lit hockey rink and compared to the kit lens, this guy does an amazing job. Very pleased with my purchase.

Some example shots are attached. Both photos were shot at 1/800 shutter, f/4 aperture, 3200 ISO on a Sony A6500 at roughly 120mm focal length.

    Great budget telephoto for Sony

I purchased this lens as I wasn't sure I wanted to spend the $2700 on the 70-200 f2.8. While this isn't a cheap lens, compared to the other native Sony options, it's a deal. This lens is incredibly sharp, even wide open at f4. If you know know if you need the f2.8 or not, you probably don't and this lens will do great for you. It's also noticeably lighter than the f2.8 which makes it more reasonable to carry around on hikes and hand hold for awhile. You won't be disappointed in this lens.

    Wow, Sony.

This lens blew my mind. Ever since it was announced I've been wanting to snatch one, but they would not stay in stock long enough for me to purchase one. I finally was able to get one and take advantage of Best Buy's 24 month 0% financing. It is ridiculously sharp and fast, handles low light like a champ and the bokeh is out of thisworld. Have not taken it off my A7iii since I bought it!

By far the fastest and sharpest 50mm lens I have ever used. Great quality build, and tack sharp! It does have some weight to it compared to other 50mm lenses, but I actually like the heavier lens. Feels solid in my hand. Sony really nailed it on this GM lens!

Does Great Wedding, Event, Real Estate

This lens is fast. Smooth! And sharp! It’s meant to be mounted on a Sony E Mount camera, it is a super quick focusing lens! It is! I combine this lens with the options for focusing you get with a Sony A7 r ii or a Sony A9. And it opens up huge possibilities for landscape, portrait, action.

It’s almost a challenge to slow down the focus speed. It seems to want to be fast! Slow down focus speed you can do in the settings of the camera. Also choose which type of focal area like flexible spot or zone focus. Continuous or single shot.

This lens is my most frequently used. I’ve filmed and photographed swimmers racing, wedding couples walking, their friends dancing in the evening light, tennis teams hammering each other, portraits of dogs and kids, it’s walked with me through the 4th July Parade. Gotten wet and survived...but I don’t recommend the getting wet.

It’s widest aperture is F4 so not as wide as I love but perfect for most situations. It is great in low light.

The zoom slider combined with Optical Steady Shoot allows you to smoothly focus from close up to distance. You’ll need a tripod or gimbal for steadiness when you use the zoom slider on the left for extreme zooming. The further away you send the focal point and the closer you zoom into to your subject the steadier the hand needs to be for film and steady photos.

I want a lens that closes in on its subject slowly and smoothly and this lens does it a little faster than I’d like. So remember the zoom is available both manually and automatically. I think there are gadgets out there that you can use to adjust the speed of the zoom manually.

With the auto zoom: touching the zoom slider is tough sometimes because it’s hard to feel when you are framing the shot. Once you find it, you have to learn the level of pressure to gently (slowly) or fully (fast) control the zoom speed. I find it very hard to tell how fast it will go, if I was to add one feature it would be something like zoom slow, zoom medium, zoom fast on the zoom slider. Add a few notches..feel with finger tip?

The steady shot is really effective. I was filming a dark wine bar. Rack of wine with labels in the foreground reaching off into the distance. The lense handled it so well. Pulling focus from the label closest to me to the wine bottles furthest away. It was a lovely shot. Even in the dark.

Five out of five for it’s infinite usability.

I DIDNT KNOW THAT (IDKT) : recently I mounted it on the camera saw a tube!!! Panicked and realized you must use it with the APS-C/Super 35mm setting ON. Also I heard it rattling when it wasn’t mounted and was worried about the lens. Apparently that is normal!? It doesn’t rattle once mounted. Googled the oddity and found it wasn’t an oddity.

I’m a second year photographer. No school training. Just learning on the way through life.

I broke my first one by dropping it several times and had to replace it on the 4th drop. I use this with My SONY a6300 camera and it is hands down the best all round lens to use. I take it everywhere and shoot 90% of my pictures with it. I can not recommend this Lens enough. Fast on the count and takes a beating in the field. I have recently bought a a7iii full frame and it works so well with this lens. It gives me a great walk around ability for fast shooting. Flexibility and quality are the hallmarks of having this lens in my bag. I have included a variety of Pics shot with this lens and one of them was from the front seat of a moving bus.

Works Great on my Sony a7rii, Great Resolution!

Just got the lens today so took a few images around the house. Had to downsize them for best buy. But the resolution on my 42mp camera seemed great. Fairly quick to focus. Video was fine. I've tried different lenses around the same mm. Have tried the Sony 50mm 1.8, 55 1.8, Canon 50mm 1.8 and 50mm 1.4 (adapted to Sony). There is no question that the 55mm is just slightly sharper (but not by much), and faster, but I use my 85mm 1.8 mostly for portraits. I find the 50mm 2.5 is quick, small and wonderful for a carry around lens. I will throw that in my bag along with the tamron 20mm and sony 85mm and be all set in a small package.

I bought the Sony 30mm Macro lens primarily to shoot flowers with my A6000. This combination has worked very well and I have taken a number of exceptional shots with it. I have been very pleased with the image quality as well as the close focus capability. I have also found the 30mm to be a useful walk around lens. I have uploaded a couple of sample pictures as they came from the camera.

    Nice entry level macro lens

I have an A5100 and would like to try macro photography. I got this open box + $50 gift certificate so it's quite an incentive for me to buy it.

    About the lens

    Pro

The lens is quite light and it came with a hood.

It can capture bugs that don't move.

    Cons

You have to be real close to the subject to get a macro picture. Hopping bugs would jump by the time you get close to it.

    great budget-friendly macro

This lens pairs perfectly with my Sony a6000! SUPER LIGHTWEIGHT by the way... Helpful tip: just keep in mind - you'll likely need a TRIPOD to use this lens to reduce camera shake.

    Great for Macro

I bought this lens hoping to use it as a Macro AND a portrait lens but it's not that great for portraits, unless you want to be inches away from your subjects' face. As for macro, it takes fabulous photos, but again, you've got to really get up close and personal with your subject, so be ready!

Looking to enlarge your small subject?

I just got this lens about two weeks ago. This lens is outstanding, I used it for photos and video. I do toy photography and product photography. It pulls up very fine details from at least five inches from the subject. Highly recommended for small items.

    Great Lens

Here's the thing. I'm a lens junkie. Have been since I can remember. There was a long period when I wasn't shooting all that much. along came digital and my addiction resurfaced. I'm not shooting with Sony Nex and A7 cameras. Over the past several years, I've built up a collection of Leica, Minolta, Olympus and Canon lenses. All of them adapted to work on my e-mount cameras. I chose the FE 35mm as I had no native autofocus lenses for my A7 and I have several 50mm lenses already and only one wide angle option a Leica 28mm Elmarit.

This Zeiss lens is most likely the best lens in my collection. Auto focus is quick. Color and contrast are excellent. Images require very little adjustment in Lightroom. This lens is a keeper.

    This Lens is HOT!!

Not like literally hot of course, but if you're an A7 Series owner, this is a must have piece of glass! The quality of the photos is can produce are astounding and almost unbelievable when you think of how small it is. Yes the f/1.4 is amazing with an aperture 2 stops greater, but in a body immensely larger. When this lens is attached to the body of my A7II, I can't even notice it's there. It's possibly the best all around, versatile as heck, small profile native lens available for the camera right now. If you enjoy taking street, architecture, landscapes, and portraits with amazing bokeh, this lens is a must and you won't regret adding it to your kit.

    Keep it simple and SMALL

Like many others, I have $$$ dollars invested in one lens or another. By physics, these lens get rather large sometimes depending on what is being done. Sometimes, you just miss the good 'ol days of point and shoot cameras being small. This prime lens does just that for my A7R3 without compromising on image quality. This lens is my go to lens for my A7R3 that is now a great and compact travel camera. The lens is crisp from edge to edge and bokeh is nice. An ideal perfect lens for my needs.

    outstanding lens

I recently bought a Sony a7rii (42MP full frame), and the incredible 55mm prime Zeiss lens. I wanted something in the mild wide angle range, and bought this Zeiss 35mm prime. Everyone raves about the 55mm and its sharpness, but this 35mm is also incredibly sharp, it's a convenient focal length, and nice and small. I just made a panorama with three landscape (horizontal) shots (using hugin) and the result is amazing - when I zoom into the image I can see the lens is giving all the detail the 42MP sensor can record across the whole field of view. This is now my default lens, even in preference to the 55mm.

    Not a bad lens

I have the Sony Nex-3 and wanted to get a zoom lens, I was debating between lens adapter with a longer zoom lens and this lens which I ended up buying and keeping. The feel of this lens on the camera is just right, it has a nice rubber grip with manuel focus opt. and aluminum construction which makes it very light. I took the lens for a test drive on my Alaska Cruise vacation and ended up with some nice pics, I did also use a Rocket Fish P.Filter and UV.Filter to prevent any glare on my pics and to protect it from getting scratched. The video recording with the lens was good too. Over all I think this lens is a great addition to the camera but I would of liked a longer zoom though I shouldn't complaint since there's no adapter required for added cost. I'll leave 2 pics to show 55mm zoom and max zoom 210mm.

Sony E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 is one super nice lens

The Sony E 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS is one of a familiar breed of lenses: an entry-level telephoto zoom lens designed to be paired with the standard 18-55mm kit zoom. On the plus side, this lens has enough reach for sports and wildlife photography, and includes helpful optical image stabilization (that's the OSS) that can help prevent blur from hand-shake at longer focal lengths.

    Great lens

Bought this to add some range to my a6300, typically shoot with with a 28/1.8. After reading all the reviews there was little to no other option. There are maybe three zoom lenses for the e-mount system. So few options that this is actually the kit lens when you buy the zoom lens camera body. Don't let the fact that this is really your only option turn you off, this is a very good lens. Zooms way in and takes really good crisp pictures even zoomed all the way in and hand held...if you have the right settings on your camera.

Excellent Sony SEL2470Z lens on my Sony a6300

    Hi,

I have a Sony a7s and Sony a6300. I've only used it on the a6300 because of the 4k video feature. The videos and photos are very clear with great detail.

Pros: Very light, quiet, stabilized, and super sharp lens compared to my Sony SEL24240. Works great with my a6300. I also get nice bokeh with the lens. I was surprised about the bokeh coming from a Mitakon 50mm f/0.95.

Cons: I can only compare it to the Sony SEL24240, Mitakon 50mm f/0.95, and the best in class 55mm Zeiss lens that I use and I still can't think of anything negative.

I love my Sony - FE 24-70mm f/4 Zoom OSS SEL2470z lens. The Zeiss Optics in this product produce sharp clear images. I use this glass on my Sony Alpha 7ii ( a7ii ) in low light conditions (indoors mostly). The Sony FE 24-70mm also works well outdoors making it an all around great lens. It can fit and work on my a6000 which if I am not mistaken would make it a 36- 105mm. I can capture great portraits and zoom in on most objects even with movement because of it's OSS (optical stabilization). I would recommend this to most people for an all around great lens. Even better would be to have a seperate great wide angle lens to compliment this lens.

This little guy Is definitely worth a close look

Wonderful short zoom lens. I debated this or the 24-105 G lens. They are both excellent. This lens originally retailed for about $1,200…. And it shows. Zeiss T* glass has that certain ‘something’ (similar to Leica, which I also own).. images pop thanks to the microcontrast, colors, and overall rendering. My Sony A1 is a great test too for this lens’ resolving power and I have yet to find any issues there even though this lens was designed back when single digit and low-teen megalixel sensors were state of the art. The 24-105 G is a fantastic lens also; technically it is more sophisticated and more advanced. But this 24-70 Zeiss/Sony is tiny in comparison and looks more like one of my primes. It’s smaller, lighter, practically hides in my backpak and a perfect complement to my 70-300 G lens (a other winner….)

    Great glass!

Purchased as my first e-mount for a Sony A7R-II and it's taken me a few months before I found a situation that I felt the lens couldn't handle. It's extremely versatile! Super-sharp, great feel, and does extremely well on a gimbal. In shooting some music performance videos, it certainly isn't a silent lens so if you're shooting a scene on AF-C, you'll hear a little focus motor. It's not bad but for critical audio, it'll come through. However, with AFL/AEL engaged, it makes a fantastic piece of glass to shoot some really great performance videos.

I've learned that you can push the lens at F/4 and get some great DOF effects, but (as I've learned) more extreme bokeh and shallow DOF shots are likely going to need a lower stop. I'm no real pro, though, so maybe you'll get even better results than I have - and I've been super happy.

    Great match with A7II

Just returned from 3-week European vacation using this camera/lens combo most of the time and was very pleased with results. I've come to realize that with mirrorless cameras, the exposed sensor is subject to dirt and dust every time a lens is removed and every tiny speck on the sensor will show up on the image. Having a lens that stays on for most shots keeps the compartment much cleaner.

    Excellent travel lens.

If you want to travel light, or are heading into an environment that precludes changing lenses, this lens is a very useful answer. The 24-240mm gives you medium wide to long reach. Even at f6.3, the bokeh at 240mm is pleasant. I've used it on my A7ii and my a6000 with good results. On an APS camera the 240mm images like a 360mm, which is a great lightweight wildlife system.

This lens will not replace my primes or my constant f4s or f2.8s, but it has a place in my kit.

    Great all around lens!

I recently purchased this lens for my A7 which I've owned since it's release. I'm an amateur photographer and I like to travel when I can. Many airlines are starting to put weight restrictions on carry-ons so that's why I bought this lens. My last trip, I brought my A7, A6000, alpha 55-200mm w/ e-mount adapter, alpha 16-50mm, kit FE 24-70, NEX 16mm pancake with fish-eye converter, alpha 50mm. Next trip, I'm downsizing! I've taken some photos and I have to say they're pretty nice. Only downside is the auto-focus, but that was to be expected. I would highly recommend this lens to those that don't want to be bogged down with numerous lenses.

    Overall good Lens for versatillity

All around great versatility image quality isn't as sharp as primes of course but still lots of very usable images. A big con is the weight nearly at 2 pounds it can be quite heavy but comparing it to how many focal lengths this covers its kinda the same as bringing maybe 3 primes. In the end if your looking for an all in one zoom lens, this might be the one your looking for.

    After a month....still super impressed!

As soon as I got the Sony A7Rii, I also got my first (and still only) Sony lens: 24-240. I've shot with it at Disney World, San Diego County Fair, and three model shoots so far. I'm still extremely impressed with the sharpness of this lens. Also from watching a video on YouTube I discovered that if you zoom all the way out (240mm) you can shoot semi-close ups! Yes, sort of a macro effect! I just shot some close ups of bees in action! You have to stand back about 3 feet but that's where I want to be! The bokeh is also very nice. No lens creep as the zoom is just stiff enough to stay in place. Truly worth every penny! Oh, and I shot at night in Disney World the fireworks show handheld at 1/50th a sec...(In a torrential downpour of rain) and the shots looked fantastic! This is truly the travel lens you need! (I've been using top of the line Nikon gear since 2005, but the A7Rii was too interesting to pass up!)

This lens really helped me get into macro photography. It's not too expensive and delivers great photos. Obviously with any macro lens, the autofocus is very slow, but this lens is very loud as well. And at 50mm you have to get right up to your subject to shoot at 1:1. this website won't do the photos justice though.

A great starter macro lens for someone who wants a small sharp lens who might go to full frame someday.

    Works as expected

Really nice priced macro lens from Sony. Performance was similar to a macro lens I used to have with my Canon DSLR. Don't expect fast focus, but image quality compensates for that. I am using it with an A6300 which is a camera with APS-C sensor

Great Macro lens for the price

I love this lens I get some awesome shots with it. I use it with my Sony A7ii and they work so well. I’m a landscape/macro art photographer and this lens gets me my money shot every time. These are a couple of the photos I’ve taken with this lens.

    Sony SEL50M28

Lens is good at auto focus so long as you give it time. Still having issues in manual focus. I seems to have extreme difficulty getting it to focus at all but i'm sure its user error.

For both Full Frame & APS-C sensors

Great for portraits and close-ups. Use if for both video and photo on my Sony A6000. Wish they had a 90mm or 100mm macro available for crop mirrorless cameras.

    You know you want it

As I was researching the pros and cons of this lens, many said what I have now concluded: if you can afford it it's worth it. I'm not sure why it's so expensive but I suspect in the years to come I'll remember the quality of the photos and not the price. It's got a pop, an oomph, a wow that makes me feel like I'm heading in Ansel Adams territory. If you enjoy standard photography and aren't trying to push your photographic skills I wouldn't recommend it. But I'm trying to learn as much as I can and with this tool I feel like I can do many fun things. Sorry for the lack of tech talk but you can find that anywhere. I think it's more of an emotional thing.

Excellent upgrade to standard kit lens on A6000

I hike with this as my "one lens," with the 16mm (24mm equivalent on my Sony a6000 APS-C sensor) working well for most landscapes, though occasionally I wish for wider; the 70mm end of the zoom and everything in between are great for framing and closeups. It has an excellent bokeh compared to the kit lens (16-50mm) that came with the camera, very smooth background blur with the shape and number of diaphragm blades.

    Excellent Lens

I truly love this lens, takes crisp photos. Constant f4 aperture is great. Fast and smooth focusing, completely quiet. Build quality is very good, smooth zoom and focusing rings. This lens is on my a6000 90% of the time. I would wait for the occasional sale, I picked this up for $799 on sale, great deal for this lens. This is a great piece in such a small package, very well balanced on any sony mirror less system.

Best lens for your money hands down

I have shot with this lens for nearly 2 years and have designated it as my go to portrait lens. You can spend a lot of money to ‘upgrade’ but the quality this lens puts out is phenomenal. I haven’t had any issues here. Photos are sharp and the 1.8 aperture is totally satisfying.

    Excellent lens to have!!

This is excellent for portraits and you can get some really good shots depending on what you need to use it for. I use mine for mostly nature shots, toys and food. It mounts easily to any Sony cameras with an e-mount, although you can purchase adapters if you want to use it with Alpha mounts or some other brand name camera. Recommended.

    Great little lens.

I wanted an inconspicuous lens to mount on my Sony a73. The G master lenses are very large and draw too much attention and situations where you need to use caution.

I recently traveled to a Third World country. I did not feel secure walking freely with a large set up. I bought this lens.

The size of the lens and weight allowed me to move freely and capture what I intended without unwanted attention.

In a world of dizzying sharpness and fascination with ultra clear images, This lens is not it.

However, there is a very likable personality with this 50 mm.

This has become my go to street lens.

    Great starter lens

This is a great starter lens for anyone wanting to either move from the kit lens or bought the camera just the body. It’s Sony’s nifty fifty and it lives up to the hype.

One note: it does not have optical steady shot so make sure your body is internally stabilized for beat results. I am using it on an A7 which is not stabilized but still get great results. Just have to know your cameras limitations.

Completely UnderRated Lens, Bang 4 your Buck A+

This is an amazing lens that is completely portable, has great color rendition and is extremely sharp in the center. Optical Stabilization gives you the ability to hand hold in low light for razor sharp images. This 16-50 lens condenses down to pancake size when not in use and can be extended up to 100mm with digital clear zoom, while maintaining excellent image quality. This kit lens will give you outstanding results and an extremely useful effective range of 24-75, the perfect mid range zoom. Don't listen to the negative reviews, this is a quality lens, Sony hit a home run and the upgraded lenses are much more expensive for very little gain in IQ. Use this lens, work on your photography, develop your skill set and THEN go look for new lenses. This could very well be the only lens you ever need on the Sony crop system. Happy shooting

I have a Sony a7III camera and while I knew that this was a APC lens, I wanted to get something that would make my setup more travel friendly. We were leaving our camera at home lately due to the size and bulk of the 24-70 G-Master lens and camera combination. This fixes the portability concern and we now can travel and photograph with ease!
