    Great for the price

Item purchased as a gift for son in law for his birthday. I only wish he would have had it while the comet was still visible.

    Great Addition to One-Eyepiece Telescope

Ordered this set to have with the single 25mm eyepiece that came with my NexStar SE6. Nice range now ... wide view 25mm, a little closer detail with the 17mm and unbelievable close up with the 6mm. Also in this kit is the Barlow 2x ... effectively doubling your viewing pleasure. All eyepieces are packed nicely in foam, inside a black plastic carrying case, each piece having it's own place to sit. There are a few other cutouts for other accessories, but not many. I have not yet tried the filters; next few days will be a full moon so I will try out the moon filter provided. The moon is SO neat to look at ~ so much more than just a big bright spot in the sky !! Five star rating because of the simplicity - each eyepiece and filter is super easy to access and return to it's resting spot, almost without looking (very useful as you probably be using this in the dark !) Easy to open/close and carry box too.

    Great Telescope

Great telescope to view stars and planets nearby. Set up is not overly complicated, and the tripod stand and bag make setup/transportation a breeze. Although there are more powerful telescopes out there, the clarity and range are quite impressive for the price range.

Excellent first telescope or budget scope

I am new to astronomical viewing and after looking at reviews I went with this one. The star finder software on the phone works great. The eye pieces that came with it are actually really good. I bought an extra eye piece from Celstron so I could get a bigger view. I’ve also bought the telephone mount so I could use my phone to take pictures. I’ve enjoyed this telescope a lot. Plan to purchase filters and additional eye pieces.

    Great for Beginners!

This is an amazing starter telescope! You can get a comfortable view of Jupiter and it’s moons with the eyepieces provided! You can also see some deep space objects like The Orion Nebula.

The most zoom I’ve been able to get out of this scope was with a 2x Barlow and a 10mm eyepiece. This was a great combo for Orion Nebula and Saturn! I tried using a 7mm and 2x Barlow but you lose the focus at that point.

Tip: try using 1.25” planetary filters and you will see a hint of the lines on Jupiter

The set up is really easy and the red dot sight is pretty accurate once aligned. All in all I’m obsessed with this scope :)

    Damaged on arrival .. twice.

I have now tried to buy this telescope twice. The first time the box had damage and the telescope spider vanes were tumbling around inside the telescope having come loose. I returned it to Best Buy easily and ordered a new one. The second arrived today. The box looked in decent shape. When I got the telescope out I heard movement inside it again and this time the spider vanes had three out of 4 screws still attached but the mirror was lying on its side leaning against the vanes, having come loose and rolled through the scope. I am now feeling like this is a manufacturing issue, not a one time thing. I am concerned about how durable the telescope will be in the long run. I won’t be asking for another. This is pretty disappointing because it seemed like a great option for a beginner.

    Do not risk shipping!!

Arrived HORRIBLY cracked! Was trying to surprise my wife with this before her birthday, and it arrived unusable. The damage was obviously done before shipping. Now we will have to watch Jupiter and Saturn through binoculars... Thanks! We'll just catch this celestial event again 800 years from now!

The app will not allow me to upload my photos.

    Awesome product without tripod :)

Travelscope 80 using an iPhone 11 Pro. 100 frames stacked extracted from 3 second videos using the programs PIPP and RegiStax and a Celestron NeXYZ phone adapter also on my astromaster tripod. I also bumped my review up to 5 stars because of how much I actually use this OTA, just not the tripod. I have that to my roommate for live FB videos

    Great starter telescope

So far, great little starter telescope! Only four stars since the phone adapter is so frustrating to use. I bought this for my school-aged son who's obsessed with space, and it has been a hit. Easy to set up with minimal help from an adult. I even like to use it myself during the day to watch wildlife far away. Moon filter is really cool.

    Celestron Telescope

Plenty included. Everything someone needs to get started. Comes with well written instructions also. Nicely constructed. Telescopic images as seen by the individual through the eyepiece have good detail and clarity. Even comes with a protective tinted lens for viewing a bright moon. I'm giving it five stars for what it is. A beginner package to get started learning.

    Very good telescope

Telescope is a good material overall. I had lots of issues with the phone holder being too heavy with the phone attached and lining up with the lens. Because of the weight from the telescope and phone, the dials were never tight enough to keep it in a set position. Also, if you wear glasses, the constant adjusting can cause some eye strain and pain. Very good telescope but too much of a hassle for me.

    Nice telescope

I didn't understand the instructions at first, but once I figured it out it worked pretty nice, but there's too much light pollution in my area to give a good, accurate review, it's also a bit touchie even though I tighten it to the max it'll still move, so be careful with it.

    Good--with some small caveats.

A solid starter telescope. A piece of advice: set-up the telescope and align your view-finder in advance of trying stargaze. The app is also very helpful. The telescope is top heavy so be careful when swiveling to change sky positions. The tri-pod is also a bit tippy to be sure to adjust the legs carefully and place on a relatively flat surface.

    A nice Celestron-branded case w/a few compromises

I received Celestron's recently introduced 94004 case today from Best Buy and have to say, it's a good looking (albeit large) case. When I placed my order via BestBuy.com, I was given a two to three day delivery estimate and was pleased to receive my order in two days (though, feedback to Best Buy, it would've been nice to receive the e-mailed shipping notice *before* the big and obviously-labeled "Celestron" box was surreptitiously left on my exposed front porch by UPS).

My first impressions of the case are largely positive. The handle and wheels appear solidly made, there's plenty of padding and, if you're a fan of Celestron's branding and colors, you'll certainly be showing off your brand loyalty. I also appreciate that the case appears to have been designed specifically with the Nexstar 8SE OTA & mount in mind (though it also supports 9.25" and 11" OTAs w/o mounts), has additional built in storage in the lid (where I already have my solar filter safely stored in it's own box), weighs approximately half what the 302070 case weighs, and doesn't require any case customization (i.e. cutting of foam). The 302070 case does have "heavy duty features" this case doesn't have though (e.g. a water/airtight o-ring seal, dust/chemical/corrosion protection, high impact, etc).

My only reservations (size aside, as I'm used to transporting my OTA/mount sans case, so the size was initially off-putting) are that the main zipper seems a bit light-duty (i.e. it's plastic and required some 'finessing' to zip closed the first time), the 8SE and mount won't fit in the case without first removing the star diagonal (which required that I search for the visual back's dust cap, which I hadn't used since first receiving my scope almost a year ago), and the slight pressure on the star pointer may end up requiring it to be occasionally recalibrated (which, to be honest, it already does, as the slightest tap seems to affect it's alignment).

All in all though, I think Celestron's done a nice job on their 94004 case – especially if you're a Nexstar 8SE owner – and am looking forward to field testing it soon!

Shipped quickly and arrived earlier than estimated. Packaged well and arrived undamaged. The quality is about where it should be for what it costs. I was hoping it would have better magnification but I have never used a telescope before, so that is my fault. I would say this is definelty a beginners telescope. I do enjoy the cellphone accessory. Newtonian Telescope

Always wanted a telescope, but I wish I would have researched it a bit more before purchasing this particular one. Overall it seems like it is build very well, however, I was not aware that the image would be inverted. After emailing the vendor to see if something was wrong with the telescope I discovered that this is a Newtonian telescope and that the image will be upside down. For me, that will not really work so I am taking it back.

Not as excited about this item as I wanted to be

Not as happy with this as I thought I would be. Firstly, the images that I see is not at all as great as I thought it would be, and when you are looking at images that are more terrestrial, you need to get a diagonal because it is not included. I was going to send it back, but rationalized that I haven't given it a chance to see what it is capable of. Since I am restricted by the lights of the city, I know I am restricted in seeing many deep sky objects. I can say that I did see the moons craters clearly

    Exactly what is needed!

Unit is solid, excellent construction. It's heavy (about 20 lbs), but it's a lead battery, so that's expected. Has two lights - a bright white spot light and a smaller, detachable, red light. The detachable light has a cord connected to the unit that winds up and stores conveniently. The storage for the red light is a bit fiddly - my only "complaint". Unit comes charged, but needs a full charge before use. First charge takes about 24 hours. Comes with two charging cables - an AC adapter (along with an assortment of international adapters), and a DC adapter. **CAUTION: The "cigarette lighter" (DC adapter) cord is NOT the correct cord for powering a NexStar SE!! Yes, it can be used, but it will not make a solid connection. There is a separate power cord to power the telescope that must be ordered from Celestron (or another retailer). Radio is a nice feature for home emergency, but not needed at all. The unit has the ability to attach jumper cables (sold separately), but the unit is NOT designed as a "jump-starter" for your vehicle. To use this feature, attach the jumper cables to the terminals on the back, and then "charge" the vehicle's battery, disconnecting the PowerTank before cranking the engine. Not ideal for this feature, but can be used in an emergency, if needed. Overall... very happy with the unit and expect a long life. Thank you, Celestron, for the 2-year warranty, in case anything goes wrong! Would have given 5 stars, except for the "fidly" detachable light storage, the fact it did not come with a manual (had to download from Celestron), and you still have to order a separate power cord for the telescope.

    total waste of money

I have owned two of these and both have failed miserably. getting customer support for a replacement was very difficult. I had to wait more that a month for a replacement and it falied within 2 months. This was a total waste of my time and money. There are products available at half the price that are far more reliable.

    it works fine

I've been using this Celestron power tank 17 for over three months now and it's been working without issues. The charge lasts a long time. Charging can take up to 24h. I use it to power my telescope mount and the tablet and I connect to the mount.

    Wrong telescope, wrong tripod

Was sent a different model than the one shown. Not just the telescope was different, but the tripod was as well. Model shown comes with an equitorial mount, which allows you to set your telescope up to properly find sky object and then make fine adjustments to keep them in the eyepiece. This telescope came with what is essentially a camera tripod, with no possibility of making fine adjustments

    Save your money. Keep shopping.

This has to have the worst assembly instructions of anything I have seen. The diagrams are miniscule and in pale ink. UNREADABLE. It took two days and two people and a lot of swearing. It is not worth the price after getting it set up. I will be returning it. Glad it wasn't for a young astronomer's Christmas gift. Totally changed my opinion of national geographic.

    Not worth it

Extremely disappointed. I wasn't hoping for much, but this..ugh. first off, the instructions are horrible. Take it from the person who puts together boxed furniture. Second, i can see the stars better with my phone. Third, the company said put the telescope together wrong. I was mad that the nat geo logo was upside down. Then i was mad the cap didnt fit. Turns out, that how they put it together. I was able to flip it, but i feel like thay could be why i just wasted 100 bucks on a Christmas gift. Just dont bother with this.

Flimsy, frustrating, you can see the moon yes.

Having owned several telascopes of better quality I thought it necessary to write a review before I even try to go out side with it.

I received this scope from my daughter thinking I could use the phone feature. This is a very flimsy set up and will be very frustrating for a young future star gazer. I am surprised that National Geographic would attach their name to it.
