    Great for network closet

High quality power supply. The batteries are going strong. Recognized by linux, windows, and western digital NAS very easily. I love the display. This UPS supports my network equipment and home security cameras. Takes the load very well. I like the LCD display.

Nice but did not solve my problem

I bought this higher end sinewave model to replace a lower priced cyberpower AVR backup, The previous backup was not keeping my PC powered up during power outages--the PC would turn off immediately--not good. (My PC had a Thermaltake power supply.) This unit is nice but didn't solve the problem for the higher price. I had to replace the power supply with a corsair model, now they both work fine together.

    When WATTS Matter

Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPSs) have been common in most people’s homes for decades, but they probably saw a tapering off in sales volume as full sized home Desktop PCs were superseded by Laptops, Tablets and powerful Cell Phones which have their own built in battery backup and power conditioning systems built in.

Home Theater Systems have become more elaborate over the years and the many subsystems incorporated into the Home Theater deserve protection from power surges just like full sized PCs. Shutting down larger Home Theaters in an orderly fashion during a power failure requires more UPS power than most PCs. That’s where the relatively high output capacity of the APC Pro 1350VA shines. As shown in the attached pictures, the power consumption of my home theater as an example is fairly high. It includes a 75” TV, an Xbox One X, a Denon AVR-S730H Receiver pushing a 5.2.2 Surround system, a Western Digital NAS and a 10” and 15” Powered Woofer. The close-up picture of the illuminated dash on the APC Pro 1350VA shows the system under load. The long tapered triangle on the top right of the display shows 2 bars out of 5, indicating that the unit is at less than 50% capacity. The power management software that runs on a PC indicates that the APC Pro 1350VA can supply back-up power to this home theater system for 45 minutes before needing to be shut down. During that time the APC Pro 1350VA will be emitting 4 beeps every 30 seconds to alert anyone in the house that the home theater should be powered down. The alarm can be temporarily silenced if desired. The LED display can also be set to be on constantly or to only light up if there is a power problem.

    PROS:

    - The back of the APC Pro 1350VA has 6 individual u-ground outlets that supply both battery back-up and surge protection. This is a larger number of battery back-up outlets than most home UPSs. It has 4 more u-ground power outlets that offer surge protection only.

    - The included PC software can adjust and monitor the operation of the APC Pro 1350VA to tell the user when, how many and what kind of power problems have occurred. It can test the capacity and readiness of the system. It can monitor power usage when everything is operating properly and tell the user how much money it has cost to operate the items attached to the APC Pro 1350VA over a period of weeks or months.

    - The APC Pro 1350VA can tell the user in real time if it is able to handle the electrical load attached to it. It also indicates some problems (short circuits, etc.) that occur in the items it is protecting.

    - The APC Pro 1350VA has the capacity to protect larger systems than most home UPSs.

    - The owner can control whether or not the LED display is constantly illuminated and can temporarily silence the beeping alarm, even if the power failure is still in progress. Personally I’m an information hound and appreciate the LED’s real time information on current load and input line voltage among other things.

    CONS:

    - Like most UPSs, the APC Pro 1350VA output plug-in strip is oriented and surrounded by other protected outputs like coaxial cable and LAN cable connections in such a way that most power bricks (for things like external hard-drives) each cover two U-ground outlets, significantly lowering the number of devices it can protect.

    - The APC Pro 1350VA can only be positioned vertically, which means it cannot fit inside the shelves of most Home Theater Credenzas alongside the amplifiers and tuners. This means that all of the power cables for these items going to the APC Pro 1350VA, must be routed outside of the credenza which can be a long distance and can look unsightly.

    CONCLUSION:

    - The APC Pro 1350VA has lots of bells and whistles for those who like to monitor and “fiddle” with the features included. If the wattage and capacity needed to power your system is larger than most home systems, the APC Pro 1350VA can probably handle the load.

Reliable Device, Simple to Use, Works as Expected

Instead of using this device to backup my computer, I used it to backup the following: CPAP breathing machine, cable modem, wireless router, network connected alarm clock, cordless phone, nightstand led light, Slingbox, cable digital converter box, small HDMI to Component box, and phone charger (see picture – if you look carefully, the Slingbox is under the nightstand). The APC unit handles all these devices very well. I also have additional devices connected to the back of this unit, such as a small 19-inch television and a laptop power cord, but those devices are only plugged into the surge protected outlets. This unit comes with 10 outlets; all ten provide surge protection, but 6 of the 10 provide battery backup in case of a power outage.

In total, I have 10 devices plugged into the 6 battery backup outlets. I was able to accomplish this by using high quality/low gauge 3 Outlet 1-foot extension cords (see picture). To prevent damaging the unit, and causing any electrical hazards, if using an extension cord, the shorter the better, and additional power strips with surge protectors are not recommended.

In terms of use, except for the CPAP machine, which I plug directly into the back of the unit, most of the other devices are connected to one of these short extension cords. It’s important to note that the overall load from all the devices connected to the UPS is very low. If I was running larger equipment, such as a computer, I wouldn’t be backing up this number of devices. In total, the 10 devices only used about 7% of this units 810-Watt load capacity (see picture). When the CPAP breathing machine is not running, the display shows the unit lasting for about 173 minutes (close to 3 hours). When the breathing machine is running, the display estimates the UPC unit will supply backup power for about 91 minutes to all 10 devices.

Please note: I do not have any expectations that this UPC unit will run my CPAP machine on backup power throughout the entire night. I do, however, appreciate that it’s there as a temporary backup if the power goes out for short periods of time. With the built-in alarm in this UPC unit, I would have enough time to wake up and properly takeoff my sleep mask.

To test this system, I simulated a power outage by turning off the power to the whole house; I flipped the main circuit breaker. The unit automatically switched to back-up power and every single one of the devices continued to work properly. I was able to maintain communication with the outside world via the wireless internet and was even able to watch TV through my laptop, steaming from the Slingbox.

Overall, I am highly impressed with this unit. The rated amount of time these batteries are expected to last are about 3 years. I will be happy if I get close to that before I need to replace the batteries, which is common with UPC backup units. The only complaint I have is a soft wisping noise the unit produces every few seconds while running on regular household current. The unit is situated on the floor, near the other side of my nightstand. I only hear it when I’m a few feet away and the room is completely silent. Otherwise, I don’t hear it at night because either the fan, air conditioning, or breathing machine drowns it out. If it wasn’t for the wisping noise, I would give it 5 stars. Otherwise, it’s a strong 4.5 stars.

    Great UPS

I have been wanting to upgrade my UPS at home for my setup for a while now. This UPS was a good replacement. I like the USB ports on the front as well as the LCD display to let me know more about the status of the UPS instead of having to look at PowerChute on my PC. Decent number of battery-backup and surge outlets on the back.

    UPS that works well

I have four CyberPower 1500VA UPS systems. Recently the battery died in one of them that I purchased in 2011. It was easy to get a replacement battery and easy to replace the battery. It appears the battery is now dying in the other one I bought in 2011.

The main difference I see between the CyberPower units and some APC units I have is that the batteries in the APC units are larger, so the run times are longer (they also cost more). The new unit I just bought is a little larger than the older ones and with same load, lists a run-time about 10% longer. It is at 28% load and lists a run time of 23 minutes.

The units themselves have behaved flawlessly for years and so far, no problems with the one with the new battery.

Solid product, I have it integrated into my entertainment center to keep the Internet, phone, and Cable Box online should the power fail. The Idea is to allow me time to switch the home from grid feed to generator feed.

I have not yet had the opportunity to use this yet, but I feel confident that I will have the ability to switch them out without loss of service.

Great protection for my home theater system

I bought this originally for a new computer system, but before I could install it, and after numerous power outages in a couple of days, I decided to put it in my home theater cabinet, replacing a large surge protector. What I found to my surprise was that my home theater didn't draw more power than the battery backup delivers, and in fact I've been able to watch TV right through a recent short outage! Now I just have to buy another one for the new computer!

    Powerful and Reliable

I bought this for my mining rig and it's a great investment. It works just as it says. The battery kicks in when it should. I have a lot of power surges where I live and I have not had a single issue from one. My power goes out from time to time in brief intervals and this thing helps to avoid an interruption. I kind of with the design was more taller than long. Just kind of a weird shape, but it's not really important. What is important is that it protects my investment.

My home has frequent brown-outs. I have electronic equipment that I can't afford to replace again... good investment! Now I no longer have to worry about brown-outs ruining my computer, router, cable modem, and the works. I was aware that printer can be a burden, so I plugged the printer in different outlet. Smooth sailing, it held up three times.

    Another winner from CyberPower

What can I say other than it works? I've had probably half a dozen of these over the past 10+ years, they work well. Have three in my house now - eventually the batteries age, but typically you can get at least 7 years out of them.

    Long lasting

The unit is user friendly and provides quite a bit of backup time for a single monitor and a mid-tower PC. On energy saving settings, the battery ran a full test and was able to run for 40min on battery power with several peripherals attached. Only thing that would make it better is probably some DC outputs like other units have.

Toaster-sized insurance policy for PC power

It's hard to get TOO excited about an uninterruptible power supply. Aside from the unit's capacity and how long it can support continued operations on the battery backup alone--it really either works or it doesn't, everything else is kind of a bonus. In this package, what you get is a decently appointed, reasonably priced, fairly capable, but super-compact UPS with enough juice under the hood to keep a modest home office setup running through a brown-out or short blackout without breaking sweat.

Setup is very simple--just be sure to follow the instructions for removing and then connecting the battery (you don't just remove the tape like a lot of consumer electronics these days). The display is also simple, effective, and easy to see/read with indicators for load on the UPS, battery level, run time when the power is out, and a host of other status and fault indicators if the situation arises. Controls are sparse to keep things simple and uncluttered--there is a mute button to silence the power outage alarm, an on/off button, and a display button to run through said indicators. Most people will probably get by just fine without digging into the manual; but it would have been nice if there were small words/indicators along the sides or bottom of the display window that you could arrow around to make your choices instead of having to remember the double-duty button sequences for certain functions (i.e. hold display for 2 seconds for full-time screen-off operation, hold power for 6 seconds to bring up sensitivity settings then hit power again to cycle the choices, etc.). Speaking of sensitivity, the Back-UPS Pro gives you three settings--something I hadn't ever thought of before because I've never had an UPS of my own to configure. This is basically a setting that lets you tailor how frequently the unit switches from AC to battery in the event of fluctuations in voltage or a complete outage. Most people will probably be fine on standard (that's the default setting), but there is a high sensitivity setting for applications where the attached equipment is very sensitive to power hits and needs a constant stream of regulated power. I suppose you could put a small fridge or something on the UPS using the low sensitivity setting where it wouldn't matter if the power fluctuates a bit more wildly before the battery kicks in, but the manual cautions against this setting for PC/computer applications, which is what this UPS is primarily marketed towards--so I'm not entirely clear what the intended use for the low sensitivity setting is really supposed to be.

On the back are 8 VERY tightly spaced 3-prong outlets, input and output jacks for both COAX and network cable spike protection, and a USB cable port to use with your PC to support the PowerChute utility. In truth, this UPS is only an UPS for half of its outlets--4 outlets have both surge protection and battery backup while the other bank of 4 outlets just provide surge protection. We didn't realize this at first and plugged our router into one of the surge protected outlets; it took us a try or two to figure out why it kept turning off during our battery backup tests. It makes sense, I suppose--you probably don't need a printer or scanner running on a battery backup when the power goes out, but you will definitely want your PC and monitor running on the battery to give you enough time to save your work and shut things down. Speaking of which, the inclusion of the PowerChute program with the Back-Ups Pro is actually a pretty neat idea for those of you looking to put one of these behind your PC. We have a highly networked house and frequently experience power outages in the evening when we're streaming content, so our priority was to put the UPS behind our cable modem and router rather than one of our PCs (which were all in different rooms). But for those of you with the interest...once you install the program and connect the UPS via the included cable, the app will automatically save your files and shut down the connected PC during extended outages or periods of low battery conditions. You can also use the program to monitor battery health/status or any power problems the unit recorded, and you can configure options like silent alarm hours or shutdown configurations. For a budget UPS, the PowerChute program was an unexpected way to extend and enhance the utility of this unit.

Overall, this new compact Back-UPS Pro really is much smaller than the APC UPS units I'm used to seeing at work--this one is about the size of a toaster and maybe 15-ish pounds on a dead lift. In operation, the UPS is whisper quiet so it shouldn't contribute to any noise pollution in a small home-office if you're forced to keep it close to you rather than tucked away on the floor or behind a desk/cabinet. Capacity is rated at 600W which is enough to keep a typical home office PC and monitor running for about an hour. We have ours in our living room behind our cable modem, router, and a 58" 3D plasma TV. To simulate a few power outages, we started a streaming TV show and then just yanked the cord from the wall. The APC performed as advertised--the picture didn't flicker or dim, the video stream didn't pause to buffer, our router continued blinking along its merry way, and the Internet connection streaming from our modem never hiccuped. There was a 4 beep alarm from the UPS when the power was interrupted, but we quickly muted it and just continued watching TV. For a cable modem, router, and a 58" plasma, the battery lasted us all the way through an episode of the Mandalorian before we thought it best to shut everything down and let the unit recharge. Without something like a TV burning through the battery reserve, APC estimates this particular unit could have probably kept our router and modem running for 3-4 hours.

Overall, we're VERY pleased with the APC Back-UPS Pro. It is marketed as a compact unit so bonus points to APC for actually keeping it relatively small. But the small size did make outlet planning difficult because some of our devices have BIG wall wort style plug-ins that ate up two or more outlets by themselves. Keep this is mind if you go for a compact unit like this one--you might need a few of those 6" plug-in cord extensions to ensure you don't have a traffic jam right around one of your outlet banks. Another nice-to-have feature would have been line-sense outlets where the UPS would power on or off based on whether you turned on or shut down a connected device. But aside from being compact, this is also a somewhat budget-minded unit, so the exclusion of a more advanced feature like that one is understandable. For what it does, this unit does it very well with no fuss, and there are a few extra goodies thrown in for good measure, especially if you're going to keep it connected to an almost always-on PC. If you've been tempted to get an UPS for your home home-office but have shied away because of traditionally higher prices (and bigger footprints) for APC's tower-style UPS units, this is a great way to get the capability you need in a very affordable package. Definitely recommended!

Good unit, but form factor is a double-edged sword

A power outage a few weeks ago while working from home demonstrated the Achilles heel of my home infrastructure--while my laptop (which already HAS a battery) and monitors work of a UPS, my network, ie modem & router did NOT--meaning files I was working on and doing setup on a web app got abruptly disrupted. While waiting for the power to return, I ran to Best Buy and picked up this unit to mitigate future occurrences.

As I believe other reviewers observed, it offers plenty of outlets, but using more than two of them can be a challenge if they are the kind of bricky plugs that many networking devices use--luckily I was able to cram two of them in (see pic). Would have been nice if they had designed it to be a little more accommodating in this respect, maybe even just rotating the outlets 90 degrees. Hence I docked it a star.

On the plus side, for its capability--probably 4 hours or more of uninterrupted power to my network--it has a relatively small form factor, so it resides relatively unnoticed on a bookshelf. Also, the readouts are pretty cool & informative. Also like the fact that you can silence it when in use, a feature my computer one doesn't have. I may pick up a couple more of these as time & money allows to replace my computer one and perhaps one for the TV so we can stream movies throughout a blackout!

Note, prevailing good fortune since getting this has prevented me from really putting it to the test (ie, seeing if it maintains in an actual outage), but at least I can work with some amount of confidence that I'm protected.

It works. Even when the power doesn’t.

This is my second APC unit, thought I’d upgrade after replacing the battery in my old one. Haven’t had a single problem with this unit. The LCD and power options make this a great choice. Not to mention it can be controlled by either my router or PC and works well with the voltage sync on my motherboard bios.

    Power Stability

Short Review: On a gaming PC with a 800 watt PSU, a high refresh monitor, speakers, and networking equipment, I got close to 24 minutes of extra power on a full charge. That's nowhere near 90 minutes, but I didn't realistically expect that and most people won't have a PSU that large. Granted, during part of that time my machine switched to power saver mode realizing it was on a battery, but 24 minutes is a good amount of time to finish up some work and shut down a machine and it's way more time than I had before with a APC-UPS 600. The APC Back-Ups Pro serves its purpose well.

Without extra software, the screen does a good job of showing the charge and estimating the remaining battery life. The ability to turn off the alarm with a button press was nice, too.

But a lot of what sets this unit apart from my older Back-Ups are the integrated circuit breaker and the automatic voltage regulation.

You can adjust the sensitivity of the unit to decide when it will switch over to battery power. At my current location, I find the power to be relatively stable, but if you have frequent voltage fluctuations, the back up gives you the option to change sensitivity and switch over to the battery more often.

The Back-UPS estimated it could run my machine for 30 minutes on battery power, but I was only on a half of a load. This is definitely a device where your experience will vary based on the load. Unlike prior Back-UPS Pros, this Back-Ups does not have a separate USB port to charge a phone or device, but I can't say I needed that. There is still a data port you can connect to a PC's USB port.

I like and recommend the Back-UPS pro. I wish I got closer to 90 minutes of life, but I will take the 25.

    Reliable and Compact

This is a fairly compact tower-type UPS that uses a single sealed lead-acid battery.

Models with more than 1000VA output capacity requires more batteries, making this ideal if a compact UPS is what's needed.

Very straight-forward to use. Note that after unpacking the UPS, the battery needs to be connected (It's unplugged for safety). The battery can be replaced without tools by sliding the cover and swapping the battery (With the UPS unplugged).

It has three buttons in the front: Alarm mute, power on/off and a menu button to scroll through different readings. The display is easy to read without being too bright (Load, battery, voltage, watts and so forth). Holding the menu button turns off the display (When not running on battery), or leaves it always on.

Keep in mind that this UPS does not produce a sine wave like an AC power outlet, but an 'approximate' (stepped) sine wave. This is not an issue with most PCs and consumer electronics, but can be an issue with more sensitive devices.

On the back, there's a row of 4 battery-protected outlets and 4 that are surge-protected.

There is also a ethernet protection (2 ports) and coax cable protection. These are to protect equipment from surge due to lighting on network and coax cables, it doesn't do anything else, but valuable feature where needed.

There is also a management port. Oddly, it uses a proprietary RJ45 to USB-A cable and an RJ45 to RS232 serial can be purchased separately. I would've preferred a standard USB port. Not sure why this is still built this way.

Connected the USB to a Mac and it automatically recognized the UPS, indicating if it was running on battery power, time and percentage remaining. There is nothing to install on macOS, and it just worked. Connecting the USB cable is not necessary however, but the computer won't be able to prepare for shutdown when the battery runs off.

APC provides a software 'PowerChute' for Windows to provide similar information.

My setup that includes a laptop, large monitor, USB devices, etc. uses about 100W and I was able to run on battery power alone for over 45 minutes.

When running on battery, it produces a loud humming. This is normal.

The battery should last from 3 to 5 years, and it comes with a 3-year warranty.

I've been using APC UPSs for many years, and all of them worked when needed.

    Protecting broadcast equpment!

We have been using the APS systems of this size for a number of years. They redesign the front panel and displays, but the quality for us remains good.

Our studios have (2) full racks of equipment in our transmitter room, and each one is protected by APC. (see in lower left of attached pictures. ) In our case, this latest unit is deployed to protect our AM processing, stereo Automatic Gain Control, system monitor, and metering. It gives us plenty of run time should our generator not kick in quickly in a grid outage.

We should note that one of the reasons we choose the APCs is for their automatic voltage regulating circuits, not JUST the backups. When you buy a unit with AVR, sensitive electronics are protected from the slightest overage or underage which can affect them. Also, contrary to some beliefs, when you know the total wattage you will use and have a rack system like we do, many of the units are low-wattage/low consumption, and it IS okay to use a long bench-style power strip to distribute more power UP through the rack if the supplied amount of outlets is not enough on the APC UPS. Note I didn't say a second surge protector, rather just a long multi-outlet strip that can serve items in the top of the rack. This gives us more protected outlets for fans, small signal amplifiers, USB devices, etc.

APC is being utilized in all our studios and this particular unit in our engineering department with no problems. The ONE time we had an issue with an in-warranty UPS, they shipped one to us right away with no issue, which is why we keep the factory check paperwork attached to each one for date of manufacture and test info should we be asked.

You won't go wrong with these units, or others from APC of similar build.

Keeps an FM signal on the air!

Our radio station operates an FM translator which runs on 110 volt or 220, we choose the 110. When we upgraded from a smaller transmitter on an older APC unit, we wanted the same brand. The capacity of this one can handle the load of the new FM transmitter and some other minor rack equipment, and while it's loaded to above 90 percent, it is not complaining in any way, and the 3 minutes of approximate run-time at this load is more than enough time for our generator to fire-up if we lose grid power.

APC's warranty is excellent, and they stood by it when we had one unit go bad,and promptly received a replacement. I have nothing but good things to say about the APC products and their service.

Peace of mind at a great price

This thing is pretty nice. I can’t say anything negative about it really... Only a few issues of personal preference. I wish it were horizontally oriented because it’s too tall to fit properly in the space I’ve designed for it. I had to lay it flat on its side. I wish all the sockets on the back were “battery + surge” I believe 4 of the outlets are surge protection only (not battery). I have my entire home theater system plugged to it; which consists of

1 65” OLED tv, one 900 watt AV receiver

Two Definitive super towers with built in powered subwoofers, PS4, Nintendo switch, wireless router, HDMI switch box, and some other stuff. It has USB-C on the front which comes in handy during an outage for charging a phone or other small devices. On battery backup mode with the sound system on moderate volume, I can get about 10 minutes of run time. That’s excellent for a small battery. It gives me just enough time to save my game, and safely shut the system down. That’s worth $200 to me!

    Help keep your PC safe

Every since I built my first PC, I've owned an APC UPS. If you're going to spend several hundreds of dollars on just a couple components in your system, why wouldn't you want to protect them?

Every APC UPS I've owned has done an outstanding job of protecting my expensive electronics from any possible damage from a surge during a thunderstorm. The battery back-up has been especially crucial when I'm trying to get some work done on my PC just as the power goes out. I'm able to quickly save all my work before shutting everything down. No more lost work!

The new 600VA model has another feature that I've found quite useful since moving into an old house: the UPS will indicate if there are possible issues with the wiring for the outlet it is plugged into (see screenshot). With my new APC UPS, I was able to identify all the outlets in my house that need to be checked by an electrician (and to not use them until then).

This model doesn't have a very large battery, but it's big enough to let you save all your work and safely shut down all devices currently powered on and connected to it.

If you spent more than $300 on your computer, I HIGHLY recommend you help protect it (and help prevent any lost work from a power outage) by looking into this UPS.

    Operates in complete silence

It works well, as advertised. It works in complete silence. I was worried upon reading other reviews here and elsewhere of coil whine and noise during operation but during use it's completely silent. It also does work when the power shuts off. I have it hooked up with a cable modem, wireless router, 32-inch monitor and Mac Mini and after turning the circuit off everything works (Internet, Mac Mini, Monitor).

Another nice touch is the spacing between outlets. If the spacing was tighter my outlets would not fit (namely my wireless router which has a larger AC adapter and monitor, which whose wire comes out at an angle from the outlet).

Great UPS for desktop/home office use

This is a great UPS for home office/desktop users - compact size, with a decent number of GROUNDED outlets (7 total; 5 backup/surge protected, 2 just surge protected). I like the black color - much less noticeable than white under my desk. Also the 1.5A USB outlet is a nice touch, but 2.4A would be better and more than one too.

Overall, this is a nice UPS for home office use - it's much smaller than the typical Back-UPS units which is nice. My only real complaint (and the reason for the less than perfect score) is the skimpy, 1.5A single port USB charging, and the power light/LED is overly bright and may be distracting/disruptive in a dark room.

    Simple and compact

Have several UPS at home. This new model is the simplest UPS. The previous models from the same category are horizontal, like an oversized power strip. This model is taller but more compact.

There's only one button, which turns green when powered and blinks when on battery mode.

There are no beeps, and it's quiet.

Keep in mine that this UPS does not produce a sine wave like an AC power outlet. This is not an issue with most PCs and consumer electronics.

Because it's simple it's very lightweight without the battery.

Also it has convenient wall-mounting holes (Like a power strip) so it could be mounted next to an electric panel. I was planning on using it with the internet router but end up installing it with a desktop PC instead.

It also has a very convenient USB port, which can keep a phone or other USB device charged during power outages, but keep in mind that it provides 1.5 Amp, so it won't be a fast charge. It would've been preferable to have more and faster USB ports.

On one side, there's also a red light that's on when there is no ground (Wiring fault) and an USB port, which provides the UPS status to a computer.

Connected the USB to a Mac and it automatically recognized the UPS, indicating if it was running on battery power and percentage remaining. APC provides a software 'PowerChute' for Windows to provide similar information.

The battery is simple to replace, with a plastic cover on the bottom of the UPS, no tools needed.

    Everyone needs this insurance policy!!

The APC Battery Backups 600Va system is a MUST buy for everyone!!

This is an all in one Battery backup/Surge protector good for about 3 plus hours on idle machines.

I have my Modem, Router and Ooma (phone system) and My PC/Monitor plugged in.

Speaking of my phone systems, For those that have internet home phone setups. You need a battery backup or the next time the power goes out you will not have a phone. Make sure your setup has one (many do) mine didn’t.

Right out of the box I plugged it in and let it full charge (24 hrs.) then I used the supplied Usb cable to plug it in to my PC. I downloaded Powerchute personal and used it to run a self-test, set up an alarm silence window, alarms, and a shutdown routine for my PC. If you enjoy a safe running PC it is best to put a UPS behind it to minimize and chance for a power hit or fade (Brown out) or loss of power that can wreak havoc to Electronics.

Think about it you spend big bucks for a PC and Monitor etc. so you need protection for these units. If you are just plugging it into the wall or a cheap power strip you are playing with a loaded gun.

Not with APC, this unit has 7 (NEMA 5-15) outlets, and a usb charging slot. I used the mounting holes in the back of the unit and the supplied template to mount the APC to my floor joist in my basement. The plugs where pointed up to the upstairs floor so I purchased an L bracket to change the unit from being vertical to horizontal. This made it much easier to access my plugs. I absolutely love the feeling of an insurance policy against the unforeseen. The only issue I have with this unit is that the plugins are close to each other (however the middle one is spread out a little) so for my set up I had one standard plug and 3 block/brick type plugs. (see pic) This blocked 2 plugs and rendered them useless. For me this was not a deal breaker as I had to Run a heavy duty extension cable from the UPS to my PC area anyway. I would not hesitate to recommend this to friends and Family!!

    UPS that Works

APC makes nice UPS. This one is nice because of the compact form that it takes and fits nicely on the floor. Since I am using this for my networking equipment I haven't tried connecting it to a PC for auto shutoff and configuration. Though I may do that in the future to mute the beeping sounds that occur when power goes out. A nice feature on this is you can mute the beep during a power outage by holding the power button down for 2 seconds. That is handy and one of the reasons why I haven't dragged a laptop over to configure the UPS.

The only downside with the compact form factor is large plugs that face right. As you can see in the picture they tried to space out the battery plugs to allow you to get the larger bricks that most home networking equipment like, but its hard to deal with plugs that just point to the right. As you can see one of my devices is blocking the now battery plugs. Keep plug size and direction in mind when planning on this UPS to make sure you have space for all the devices.

Otherwise I have no faults with this device. It works, has the ability to mute the beep when power is out and will easily provide my home network equirement with power during outages. If you need a UPS this is perfect one, as long as you keep the in mind what you are plugging in.

    I've been sticking with APC

When shopping for UPS's I'm always drawn to APC. I have had a few bad ones through the years, but APC made good on the warranty/replacement. When they are on sale, I usually pick another one up versus a replacement battery. The smaller footprint of the newer ones are nice too. I try to have most electronics in my house, including the internet broadband equipment, on a UPS for power blips and odd noises on the lines.

    Excellent

I was looking for something simple and reliable to use for my kids school computer because power outages are quite common in our area and it can seriously damage electronics. This is an excellent product. We already have several of this kinda but more powerful for our home office. So far so good!

Seems good so far.Shows power draw some decent features. The warrenty of 500k protection seems fishy at best a lot of red tape per the instructions but I bought it for brown out situations. Don't want to risk my 3090 getting damaged in this gpu drought. Haven't had any outages yet but it feels quality and it replaced my old apc unit that wasn't cutting the mustard and battery died. Time will tell but I like the unit so far.

I have a Ryzen powered Ubuntu server that manages my home automation (home assistant) runs my personal cloud of 22 TB (nextcloud) so downtime is unacceptable. Grabbed this and I'm running my network equipment and server off of it.

The software included was straight forward and easy to use. The English documentation had a few spelling errors and some of the comments in the config files are confusing, but otherwise went without a hitch.

Tested my config by pulling the power and all the scripts and shutdown routines work as expected.

    Buy this UPS!!

I had purchased two CyberPower 850PFCLCD UPS units about 3 years ago. One is attached to our large-screen Sony flat screen, the other was connected to our router, main computer units, and the other electronics in my home office. About a month ago this second UPS began beeping in the middle of the night. After shutting down all devices, I disconnected the equipment, ordered a replacement battery, and now use that second UPS for our charging units (i.e. iPhones, iPods, Earbud Pros, etc.). I then ordered this CyberPower 1500VA Sine Wave UPS unit to use in my office.

This is a fantastic unit, and I'm pleased I upgraded to a more powerful unit - worth the extra cost! Plus I'm not getting a more pure and consistent power load to all my office equipment. It's great that even if power shuts off we can still use the internet (AT&T UVerse) and watch television to get the news.

I'm very pleased with this unit and recommend it without reservation.

Still Teaching Remotely Even When The Power Is Out

When the power went out at my home, My computer stayed on, but my Internet was down. I was disconnected from my students.

I configured my CyberPower 1500VA for my ultimate system, but I did not think about my overall setup.

After I visited the CyberPower website and BestBuy, I was now able to really configure my system. So when the power went out again for 20 minutes in my neighborhood, I was still able to communicate and still teach my students knowing how much time I had left during the whole time.

    I purchased a 2nd unit - Now I am totally protected.

Great battery backup for heavy gaming PC

    Great acquisition.

I can see the wattage my PC setup is pulling while gaming or working and can see how much time I have left if light goes out. Has more than enough battery to last a few hours when not gaming, and plenty of time to disconnect and continue later if gaming.

It's connection to the PC and wi-fi with automated notifications also alert me on power outages in my neighborhood and notifies when lights are back on. It has custom settings as well to shut down the PC automatically if battery reaches a percentage of discharge.

I am impressed and very happy.

Next step is going solar, which having an energy input and output data on this machine helps greatly in calculating needs.

I needed to replace an old battery backup for my desk tower and related equipment. I have had this basic product before and have found it to be reliable and easy to set up. Good battery backup for anyone looking for this type of device. FYI: I found many years ago that the electrical outlet I use for my computer DOES NOT provide a steady flow of electric current and that use to cause problems for my system. The battery backup keep the flow of electric to my system flowing at a constant pace, making everything work well.

I had an older version of this unit that lasted 6 years with no issues, so it's a no-brainer to stick with the same type of unit. Protection + Power - what more do you want?

This was a replacement to our Decade old APC Back UPS 650VA. The old one was a horizontal format, which means it too more floor space. This new version has a couple less plugs, but the vertical formal is a major game changer in terms of where it can be put, and a lot less accidentally stepping on it below the work station.

We also LOVE the USB charging port as well. It brings some some comfort knowing that a surge won't take out our USB Hub that c charges our Apple Devices...those aren't cheap.

Bottom line, this is a MUST BUY if you value the electronics you use.

A must-have for NAS / Internet Power Backup

In a connected world, when the power goes out, the internet goes out, your life is now lifeless and worthless until power is restored.

One of the problems can be solved by UPS. I use UPS’s to protect my critical infrastructure. The APC 650VA Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) is designed just for that. 650VA is not a whole lot, but its enough to power your life before you end up twiddling your thumbs in boredom.

This is not my first UPS; I have consistently used UPS’s over the last two decades to protect critical equipment. UPS does not only provide consistent power backup, but it also allows for smoothening of the power when there are brownouts (not a complete power cut, but a reduced voltage). This power conditioning allows for longer life of connected equipment.

The UPS features 650VA (higher capacities are available), with five (5) outlets (two (2) of which are transformer outlets, three (3) regular) backed up by a battery that provides surge protection, and two (2) more regular outlets that provide only surge protection. There is a USB port on top that provides 2.1A at 5V to charge your phone. On the side, it has a reset button, and on the bottom a battery connector/breaker to safely transport your UPS.

So, What do I use this seven (7) port UPS for? Well, it protects my internet connection, something that has been useful the last few days with the high heat and the threat of rolling blackouts in my area. The combination of working from home and the need for stable always-on internet is ever such a necessity.

In my home, a UPS protects my critical infrastructure from the Network Attached Storage (NAS) drives, switches, security camera DVR, and now the internet modem, gateway, and router. A 650VA UPS powers my critical internet gateway for a good few 3-4 hours estimated (based on the combined average draw of my modem + gateway + wireless router) enough to get power back. This should give you enough time to shut down critical NAS drives should you use them on your network. The one thing this UPS does not feature is the ability to connect via USB to a NAS drive for the auto-shutdown. A feature my other APC UPS’s have and useful to auto shutdown your equipment when power runs low. Instead, this UPS contains a 2.1A 5V USB charger to charge your phone. Do note, depending on the amount of energy drawn by your connected equipment, a UPS of this size could only power your equipment for at best a few minutes, allowing you to shut down and save the equipment. It is best to pre-calculate the amount of VoltAmps (or Watts required) to properly size your UPS. That said for most people, a UPS of this size would happily power equipment like modems and wifi routers for hours.

Overall, a UPS is a piece of critical equipment; you do not realize that you need it until you do. Having lived in other parts of the world, I am well versed for the need for reliable backup power should mains power go off at any moment. A UPS is cheap insurance for your expensive lifestyle and equipment.

    Pros:

    * Well designed UPS for protecting internet router gateways

    * APC brand name, recognized worldwide for quality UPS

    Cons:

    * No display to show the amount of power left

    * No USB to allow for auto-shutdown of connected equipment

Works as advertised - just not perfectly

I've owned a number of these devices over the years. There's not much that has changed; invariably the batteries wear out; and you find the cost of replacement is just not worth it. The manual for the 650 states that the battery is NOT user replaceable, that makes it a disposable item. Better to get a new device anyhow; so that aspect of it doesn't make much difference to me.

One feature I did appreciate off the bat is the inclusion of a battery connect/disconnect plug. Previously, one would have to do a partial disassembly of the unit to put it in operating condition - so thanks for making that task a little easier.

I do have two issues with the unit though. The first is - it smells! This is an issue that is not unique to APC though, and the manufacturer's claim is that the odor dissipates or "burns off" after a short period of use. Well, in my opinion, "short period" is kind of dependent on the sensitivity of your sense of smell.

The other issue is the use of a single button. The one power button not only controls on/off, but also programming mode depending on whether you hold the button down for more or less than 2 seconds. There should at least be one additional button for silence as most UPS's provide.

There is one other thing not specific to this unit, but to all lower end UPS supplies. I have a home generator. The generator operates on 63 cycles - normal utility power is 60 cycles. Whenever I lose power, the generator cuts in automatically, and at that point, all my UPS's will refuse to charge & start beeping - they look at it as "dirty power." So during an extended outage, they become basically useless, and I have to unplug any device attached to them. It has to do with the sinewave of the electricity, suffice it to say if you want a UPS that charges on generator power, you need to invest a heck of a lot more dollars - most start in the $300-$500 range and go up from there.

All that said, this unit performed as designed, I would've just appreciated a separate mute button and a little less fragrance. And if you want one with a replaceable battery - it's not this model.

    Awesome battery back up

This APC battery back up is all you ever need to stay connected to the internet on a power outage. This model comes with 7 outlets but only 5 of them are for the use of the battery back up and the other two are surge protection only, also has a 5V 2.1A USB port. So far I’ve connected my internet modem, my WiFi router, my security camera base, my security alarm and my laptop, all this electronics worked well while running on battery during a power outage I had recently until the power came back 2 hours later. This model with 650VA/360 watts can run up to 4.3 hours for normal home network use, has a building wiring fault indicator, circuit breaker , power button that can also be set a multiple alarm settings that will alert you of a low battery and also to mute the alarm. This device is easy to use and set up for all your electronic network devices, glad to have this battery/surge protector for my internet devices.

One tip of advice for safety: when you connect this battery back up in any of your house wall plugs , make sure that the building wiring fault indicator light is off, if it stays red at all times, your wall plug is not grounded or could have an electric problem, so either contact an electrician or just plug this battery device in a wall plug that will not make the red light indicator stays on.

    Perfect for Short Power Outages

The router provided by my Internet service provider can be a real pain to reconnect after a brief power outage. That makes a battery back-up unit critical to avoid annoying disconnects and reconnects.

This model is a solid option for folks with this concern. The battery can keep your router up and functional for over 4 hours. And in an emergency, there is a USB port provided that will allow you to charge your phone.

This unit is affordable and multi-purpose, allowing your devices to be protected from surges (all 7 outlets perform this function), and also providing the battery back-up (5 of the 7 outlets). If you have somewhat frequent power outages and it is critical that you remain online, definitely consider this Battery Back-UPS.

    Does it's job very well

This APC battery back-UPS is just what you need if you'd like to keep your network equipment up and running during a power outage. Right after I received this unit, we had a series of storms that rolled through over 3-4 nights. My house is prone to lose power since it's in the woods, and although the outages are usually only a hour or so at the most, it's annoying. Sure enough, the power went out the first night I had this new unit, but this time I didn't have to make a judgement call as to whether I should fire up the generator (usually if I do that, the power is back on before I get back in the house), because the UPS kept the modem, router, and security camera base station working for about 1.5 hrs until the power was restored, allowing me to stay connected to the internet with my laptop the whole time. l was even able to charge my phone at one point because I didn't want it going below 30%. Set up was a snap, and it blends in with the other items it powers, so it's not an eye-sore. I'm quite pleased with this product so far.

I've been using, purchasing, specifying, and generally dealing with UPS units for the last nearly 20 years. This is a very nice consumer sized unit, for basic and short term power backup. Or it can be a longer term backup unit if not loading it up with stuff.

The unit contains a 9 amp hour battery. That means it can power a 1 amp load for 9 hours. To find amps, you take voltage x watts = amps. If you are trying to backup a computer, modem/router, monitor, etc. it won't last very long. However, if you are using one of these on the power supply for your FIOS service, then another for your actual FIOS router, you'll be able to continue your network for a much longer time.

Using the volts x watts = amps calculation, a 60 watt lightbulb could go for 18 hours. However, you have to back out the power the unit requires to provide the backup. But a modem/router might go 4 hours, or longer. So 2 of these, one on the router and one on the power supply for the network box as it enters your home, might give you a good quality backup power supply.

It could be used to power a lamp and charge your phone (has a USB charger port). It can be used to help power other small current draw items. It cannot power a coffee pot, a sump pump, or other motorized or large draw items - no toasters, no space heaters, etc.

APC has a very solid reputation and my experience with them professionally and personally has never been disappointing. In fact the APC ups units I have here are still in place years later even with dead batteries in them - they work great at surge protectors. This reminds me I have to change the batteries.

The build quality is solid. The lighted power button is the key to what is happening with the unit. Solid green, good to go. Blinking green, on battery. And so on. The users guide covers the light patterns and meanings.

Great back up solution for home networking gear

The APC – Back UPS 900VA is a simple device that just provides battery power for 6 of its 9 total outlets in the event of a power outage. It seems that this model is not designed like the APC batteries of previous generations where you could have the PowerChute software running and it would power down your PC in the even of a power loss or when the batter was depleted down to a certain level. This unit simply provides power with no data port to connect to a PC. I was a bit disappointed, but it is not a deal breaker for me since we rarely are without power in my area for more than a few minutes if at all. Power surges or sags do happen more often and that is what I am more concerned about. Using a UPS as this will provide protection from those type of events by providing clean power to the electronics without power fluctuations. I have a different APC unit on my TV and entertainment system to protect them. I have my mid-range gaming PC with a 25” monitor, modem, Linksys Velop node and my Arlo camera’s plugged into the APC unit and it when I removed power it was able to keep my devices powered up for a little over 10 minutes. When I tested it with just my Arlo cameras and networking devices (8 port Linksys switch, cable modem, Linksys velop tri-band node), it provided power for about 6 hours. I might purchase a second APC unit for just my PC since that seems to need its own battery.

The design of the outlet plugs could limit the number of devices that you use if their plugs are not oriented in the proper way. If it is a standard PC power cord type, then you can use all 9 spots, however, just about all my other devices use rectangular or square plugs that block access to at least another plug. You can use extension cords to make it work, but it does not look as clean that way.

With so many of our devices in our home’s dependent on internet connection, I feel it’s very important to keep the devices that provide that connectivity powered up in the event of a power loss. I don’t really think this unit is designed for a PC since it does not have the PowerChute software to tell the PC to power off gracefully and this will keep those other devices up for a much longer period of time. Also, it does not have a user replaceable battery and after the battery expires you will have to purchase a new unit. That is something I miss of the old models as well. Be sure to register it so you can extend the warranty period out to 3 years.

    Pros:

    Cost

    Runtime for networking equipment

    3 year warranty

Easy to use and set up

    USB 2.1A charging port

    Cons:

    non-user replaceable battery

orientation of the plugs limits use

No management software for PC to shut down

Power when you need it !

This UPS is actually lighter and more compact than you would expect for a 900VA unit. The 5 foot power cord provides a little extra length than most power strips. The cord also has a flat plug, which is a nice bonus, as flat plugs take up less room, and holds tighter in outlets, than the traditional bulky straight plugs.Three out of the six back up outlets have block spacing, for those bulky sized plugs. There are 9 total outlets, 6 battery back up outlets (with uninterrupted power) and 3 surge only outlets for unimportant devices that you don't want to drain the battery during an outage

Before your first battery usage, the UPS should be charged for 24hours straight, after that it only takes 8 hours to fully charge the batteries.

The batteries are hot swappable, which means you can replace them without having to interrupt your power supply to the connected devices. APC provides a 3 year warranty on this UPS, and $75,000 for connected equipment damages.

APC understands that you might have different uses for this UPS so it offers adjustable voltage for different power sources like utility wall currents or generator currents. There is even a separate LED that lights up red to indicate a problem with the connected power source, like an ungrounded connection.

LED and Audible status alarms can be set for your desired notification method. The UPS is by default set to silent mode, meaning that during an outage, it will rely on the LEDs to indicate the battery status, and will only sound 2 beeps 30 seconds before the battery gives out. The UPS can also be set to audio alerts , which is helpful if the UPS is hidden under a desk or behind other objects. To set the UPS to audio alerts, while the device is plugged in and on, hold the power button down until you hear 3 beeps. At the third beep, release the button, then press it again (do not hold it down) until the power button light turns to "amber". Now the UPS will beep 4 times every 30 seconds until the battery is almost depleted (1 minute left), then it will beep once every four seconds.APC's website has a graph that shows the power runtime graph, which seems to be pretty accurate. I plugged a PS4 slim, 32" HDTV, and usb fan into the UPS, it was able to keep all these devices running for 30 minutes.

See the attached image of the graph, or visit APC's web page for this UPS, and enter the wattage using to estimate your back up run time.

This UPS definitely provides enough backup power for most all types of devices to finish your game, or PC jobs , save your data , and shut down properly.

Keep the WiFi running during power surges!

I’ve been a longtime fan of having our internet connection plugged in to a battery backup unit for a while now. Recently, our smaller 650VA failed when we needed it, during what has been a pretty disruptive summer storm season w/ power flickering/outages in the southeast.

Now that we have our highschool aged children home during this challenging time, it's great to know we have a reliable brand backing up our most critical network, smarthome & security devices in case a storm passes through.

Our fiber ONT, Router, Switches, Main Wifi AP, Hue, & Nest Cams are all able to run off this unit for 10mins, uninterrupted - when pulling the plug to test. It probably could have gone longer, but that is good enough for me.

Important to note - these wear much fast if you overload them. A gaming PC with a 2080ti is EASILY enough to overpower a unit this small, so use it appropriately.

I like that the cord on the unit is solid and a decent length too.

So far, so good - having only used it a few weeks.

    Works as expected

So far so good. I have been affected lately by power drops around my neighborhood. FPL claims they were working on some power lines, but having your power go "ON" and "Off" seven times in less than 1 hour is just crazy. As luck has it I had purchased this APC to protect my monitors and the ATT internet box. (PC is on another UPS). And during all 7 power outages it performed flawlessly. Is not too expensive either.

Unsure if I can replace the battery down the line, but I'll cross that bridge when I need to. If I can get 3 years out of this unit, is money well spent.

Would I recommend this unit.As of now Yes. (Its way better than not having one protecting your electronics).

Hope this helps anyone decided on this APC.

    Good Luck and take care.

Protects my devices and keeps me online during intermittent and prolonged outages.

Nothing is more frustrating than losing the file I am working on when a storm passes over the area. I install my UPS to ride the tide during the vent be it a few moments or a few hours.

Here are a few features that make this a great UPS for my home internet an computers:

    * Long 5-foot cord with a wall hugging plug.

    * Six (6) battery backed up outlets, three (3) each for regular cord plug and three *(3) for transformer cubes.

    * Three extra that are surge protected

    * 3-year warranty

    * quickly recharges in 8-hours

    * indicator light if the outlet you plug it into is miss-wired ( I've seen it in an office setting)

    * meets California energy code

    * uncomplicated, just plug it in and use.

    * beefy 2.1 amp USB charging port when all you might want is to recharge you cell phone a few times during the outage.

Super simple to engage the battery. Just flip the unit over and pop the attached yellow shunt into the connector plug. DONE!

Good for lower power consumption devices

Working good so far to keep several lower powered devices (NAS, router, ISP modem) online and to allow an NAS to gracefully shut down when utility power goes out. While one can put desktops and other higher power consumption devices on this UPS, they may not stay powered by the battery for long.

The outlets are spaced slightly more apart than more expensive and capable UPS tower devices. However for some the orientation of the plugs themselves may mean putting larger plugs/wall warts on the top or bottom outlet. The solution, which I assume others do with other UPS units is to buy very short extension cables that allow one to use larger wall warts.

Battery IS user replaceable. The USB outlets ARE powered by the units battery when utility power is cut off. The Synology DSM program will properly use this device, when one connects the USB cable from the UPS's USB data port on the side of the unit to the Synology NAS's USB port.

Its important to understand that these lower end consumer UPS units are not designed to keep your equipment powered for hours at a time. They are designed for keeping equipment powered during short power outages and or allow one to gracefully shut down the computer or other device connected to the battery backup outlets. And it should be noted that most consumer level UPS units do not recommend connecting high power consumption devices like printers or microwaves to them.

Does its job, companion software is good!

UPS does what it is supposed to and the CyberPower PowerPanel Personal software is great, giving full configurability of the UPS' operational configuration. I like the power consumption metrics it calculates as well. I have dinged it 1 star because the mounting points on the underside do not come with any hardware or best practices/instructions for actually mounting. Took me a few tries to mount it properly to the underside of my standing desk.

    Always necessary

We had gone through 3 total blackouts in 1 week at night in humid weather. Couldn't stand the issue of not having a single AC power source to use flatten our adjustable bed frame. Bought 2 of these, 1 to house the modem and router (in case we get lucky and internet still works) and the other for our bedroom to allow us to flatten the adjustable bedframe then allow us to power a fan for even a short period of time.

Luckily, we haven't had to use these yet but I have purchased these for clients to use at their desks and can attest to it working great. Providing those extra minutes you need to power your hardware down. In our case, to power essentials when an inconvenient power outage occurs at night.

Regardless of what brand you buy, I recommend you buy battery backups for your home and business.

    Tiny, but useful

This device used to be big, but this particular item is really compact. That makes it convenient when you don't have a lot of space under your desk or behind the the entertainment center. Well designed to fit 8 power cords, including those power cords like the apple and Asus king, they are bing in lenght. Maybe not so convenient for those wide power connectors like those from 3.5 external disk. Price is very good, I just hope the small battery included will last long and wont run out of power before the time specified on spec. it can be laid on the floor or hang it to the wall with two screws provided with the package. The cable is very long, make it convenient to reach a power outlet that is far from your equipments.

An hour of power for modem+router

I had long wanted battery backup for our internet so that my wife could continue an online (e.g. Zoom) meeting during a power failure without interruption and end it gracefully. I could not figure out from the info available online just how long the backup would last given the volt/amp rating of the system ( I saw estimates ranging from a few minutes to a few hours). So when this unit when on sale I bought it mainly for calibration purposes, to see how many minutes of backup a 450VA system would give me. Since our laptop batteries last nearly 2 hours, we only needed backup for the cable modem and router. The total wattage of those units was about 22.5 watts, and this system powered them for an hour and ten minutes. The box the unit came in also has a useful table on the outside, showing how long the power would last given the power consumption of what is being backed up. I could not find that info online, either in the tech specs or the summary product description on the Best Buy website. As the wattage of the devices being backed up increases, the length of time that that the backup power lasts goes down sharply. No wonder that the online estimates ranged from a few minutes to a few hours.

More Power than I was expecting

I have a very tight media access port in my new home, so I needed to find the slimmest UPS within the dimensions to fit into my space. This unit is PERFECT in that regard. I was expecting that by going with a small profile unit, my backup power times would be challenged. Much to my surprise, when I needed it for the first time I discovered that it would keep my vital systems up for 90 minutes. This includes my optical modem, router, switch, a video hub, home automation hub and charging power to my alarm panel. My expectation was to get at least 10 minutes based on the 750 VA ratings and posted reviews. I am very pleased with this unit.

This is really an upgrade from prior models! It has a nice low profile which I think comes from a new shape of a battery. I bought this as a backup for my router and network switches to keep the internet up and running for at least some time due to power interruptions and wanted it separate from the system that provides a similar function for the pc, knowing that the pc will drain the battery backup much faster due to a much heavier load. So far I am pleased.

    Nice UPS

My ancient APC UPS finally bit the dust and needed replacing. Fortunately, my local Best Buy had a few left on the shelf. This is a bit larger than the one it replaced, which is great.

It protects my computer and Internet router and gives them more run time during a power outage. It is a plug and play device. Quick and easy to plug into the wall and plug power cords into it. that quick and I am up and running again.

The power glitched once since I installed it. Internet and my computer kept running without even a flicker. CyberPower has a great warranty as well. I am very pleased with this one.

Working okay so far, but the unit I bought was a return which was not marked as such, so I don't know whether there was a good reason it was returned.

Form factor is good; doesn't have a wide footprint, so it can sit sideways at the end of a shelf without taking up excessive amounts of space.

It has triggered twice so far from power outages, successfully allowing me to reach stopping points in my tasks before shutting down my PC.

Was slightly cheaper than the comparable APC-brand unit.

I live in a place where the power frequently goes out due to high heat, and this has saved my life several times already. I got one for my mother and brother too after seeing so much success from this one, definitely a must-have if you're frequently working on important work! It's also very pretty looking, I love it

Battry backup fro safety and security.

Battery backup that provides security and safety for my devices. Using this to keep my home and devices safe from hit and miss power in Texas. The uneven and unregulated flow of electricity during stormy season ion Texas is well known to those native Texans among us. If you want to save yourself major pain, this is the way to go.

    Best Buy Convenience

Products improve with time and this is no different. This UPS does more and cost less than the unit it replaced. With Best Buy online I was able to order and pick-up the same day instead of waiting for delivery. I could then replace the old one the same day it started it's annoying beeping to say it was in need of replacement.

    Be Prepared

After the insanity of this past February, I wanted to ensure that we had a solid battery backup in place for our WiFi devices so we didn't lose contact with the outside world if the power went out again during the upcoming Texas winter.

The box itself is a pretty sturdy design. It has a total of 6 outlets - 4 that are both surge protected and battery back up and another 2 that are only surge protected. Just to be clear - there are only 4 outlets that will draw on the battery backup in the event of a power failure, so make sure you chose the right 4.

Our home network setup is pretty minimal, most rooms have ethernet ports and are hardwired connected. I connected both our AT&T Internet gateway and the unmanaged, 8-port gig switch to the batter backup outlets, even though only the router / gateway will really be useful. All other ports that the switch powers throughout the house aren't on battery backup, so when the power goes out, the gateway will be handling 100% of our traffic instead of sharing the load with the other 2 mesh extenders.

I turned off the breaker intentionally to test after letting it draw power overnight and it picked up and worked fine. I didn't test for the full 2 hour claim, my wife wouldn't let me kill the power to our bathroom for that long. I also honestly don't know if the 2 hour claim is for a single device, or several. I have to imagine that the more devices you plug in, the more you lose from that 2 hour claim, so your mileage may vary there.

All in all, I'm glad we have this now. The rolling blackouts from earlier this year still haunt us, so whatever we can do to prep to try and avoid losing total connectivity is a must.

Power your internet in a blackout - A must have

2020 was an interesting year for most of us. The vast majority of us found ourselves working from our bedrooms, kitchen tables and whatever empty space available at home, and our kids were going to school remotely, in whatever space that was left for them to attend classes. Adjustments were made to our lives when everything went remote.

We bought laptops, headphones, desks and chairs, upgraded our internet speeds and added new wifi ax routers, all in the hopes that these items will make the remote work a bit more tolerable. The one thing we all neglected - the lack of power back up for brownouts. I am guilty of that too.

Last year, on one of the hottest days of the year, I lost power, well everyone in the neighbourhood lost power as a transformer blew out. I was out for a long time before power was restored. A week later, I bought myself a UPS to try and save the headache of rebuilding my critical NAS (network-attached storage) that abruptly shut down on me due to the outage.

A few weeks ago, I was thinking it was rather nice that we had not lost power this year, and then it happened again, but this time because my NAS was behind a UPS, they stayed up long enough for me to manually shut them down, but I realized a break in my safety net. My network goes down when the power goes out as it is NOT connected to a UPS.

Hence, I got a 450VA (250W) UPS specifically to power my network components. The UPS provides power to my cable modem, the Wifi router, the switch and the tiny industrial computer that runs my pfSense firewall. This came in handy as the other night in a lightning storm, the power went out for a few minutes. My network stayed up, and so did my NAS and laptops.

Setting up the device is quite easy, it has 4 outlets that are spaced well for transformers to provide battery backup and surge protection and two outlets that are surge only. Upon opening the box, you must connect the transport fuse on the bottom, and then it takes about 8 hours to fully charge, but you can immediately use your devices to provide battery protection. My only gripe is that it does not have a USB out to use the auto-shutdown of the connected device feature.

A UPS this size is perfect for protecting and powering a network stack and this should be a must-have for anybody who works remotely. I am glad I got this as its real-world use has already demonstrated itself. Based on the power load of my devices, I could run about 30-45 minutes on battery with this 450VA UPS, your results may vary based on your connected devices. That though is more than enough to help shut down the systems during a longer outage. In this connected world, it's necessary that our outside links stay active because, without the internet, we are quite lost.

    Simple UPS gets it done

This is a simple UPS that's intended to be used with accessories rather than computers themselves, although it can also work, for a shorter duration.

It's a 'square wave' UPS and with a typical sealed lead-acid battery.

'Square Wave' UPS are simpler as it doesn't recreate the Sine Wave of AC current.

It's enough to connect the power bricks from network routers, Wi-Fi and cable modems, but it might not work as expected on more precise power supplies.

It also doesn’t have USB ports for charging nor for monitoring.

I'm adding this to the Wi-Fi router and cable modem so these can still work during outages and short power loss that can happen during winter.

    It's very light.

Four plugs are battery-protected, and spaced to be able to hold power bricks and two more outlets that are fur surge-protection only.

The single button on the UPS is the on/off button and also works as an alarm mute and power light.

There is also a push-button breaker on the side.

The power connector is flat an angled, so it doesn't block the top outlet and can fit behind furniture.

Battery is replaceable but one would have to open the unit to replace it. No battery cover.

It can also be wall-mounted, it has two holes on the back to receive mounting screws

For a simple, affordable UPS for network devices and accessories, it's a good choice.

Great Battery Backup for the Home Network

The APC Home Network Battery Backup UPS with 450VA/255 Watts and surge protector is one of those devices where you just set it and forget it until it's needed when the power goes out or when there is a voltage drop. I have this device plugged into my home networking equipment composed of the internet service provider’s internet gateway and my wireless router. After I powered it up and charged the battery to the recommended 24 hours, I tested it by unplugging the unit and seeing how long the battery backup lasted. For my use case, I was able to get around 1 hour 45 minutes, which is plenty to finish off whatever I’m doing on the internet and shutting down properly. The APC Home Network 450VA just plain works. Another great feature of this unit is that it is compact and unobtrusive measuring 9.98” L x 4.13” W x 5.51” H. There are also a total of 6 outlets, 4 of which offer battery backup plus surge protection, and the remaining 2 are surge protectors only. The 4 outlets are generously spaced apart to allow you to plug in wall warts. It even comes with wall mount holes. You’ll need to hang on to the included user manual because it provides valuable information on what all the different battery indicator modes and status indicator lights and alarms mean. An improvement would be for these modes and indicators to be placed as a stickered label on the unit itself for quick reference in case the user manual is misplaced. I highly recommend this device to protect your valuable home networking equipment and to provide the extra power to your network during blackouts.

    Battery Backup Tested

    APC - Back-UPS 450VA 6-Outlet Battery Back-Up and Surge Protector

The only way I knew to review and test this UPS was to plug a few items into it and then pull the plug to the UPS and analyze the results.

The unit is not overly large or heavy and has six outlets in which devices can plug into. I had 5 devices during the test:

    Cable Modem

    Router

    Wireless Network Extender

    17" Dell Laptop

    HP Duplex Laser Printer

All items were plugged into the UPS, I printed 5 pages from the laptop. The power lasted for 20 minutes with power to spare. With the items plugged into it, there would be enough time to finish a vital function like a needed report, save files and power down the pc, and close the internet equipment until the primary power would be restored.

This UPS did what it was designed to do concerning back up power. As far as surge protection, I am not aware of how to test for that.

This product worked to my satisfaction. I would recommend it to anyone who is working from home or anyone who would like to utilize this type of product. Often, the power blinks or goes out for a few seconds. This unit powered my office home equipment for 20 minutes and there was still power to spare.

    Features

    • Output 255 Watts / 450VA, 120V

    • 2 Surge Protection outlets

    • 4 Battery Backup outlets

    • 5 foot cord

    • LED Wiring Fault Indicator

    • Audible alarm at power outage

    • Automatic self-test

    • Depending on the load, can run up to 3.5 hours during outage

    A must have item

If you value your electronic equipment this is a product you need. A power outage while your computer is on or your server, or modem and router can be a disaster. APC is a leader in this industry. This battery powered backup will allow you the time to properly shutdown your equipment while you wait for the power to come back on. This is a 6 receptacle unit. 4 receptacles have battery backup and surge protection. 2 only provide surge protection. This is a bit frustrating. I wish APC simply allowed all 6 receptacles to have battery backup and surge protection capability. Having said this, I still recommend this backup. The unit has a number of status indicators from an indicator showing power on to battery backup, low battery, sleep mode, overload protection and replace battery notices. Based on wattage of a particular device this backup can power devices from 22 minutes to more than 2 hours. Solidly constructed and backed by the APC name it should last you for a number of years.

    Excellent Budget Backup UPS

This APC battery backup solution designed for home network works pretty well as advertised. The device itself is not really that large and it is not heavy at all for being a backup battery. This not only works as a battery backup but also as a surge protector. It has 6 outlets all 6 are surge protected but only 4 will use the battery backup feature. It is rated at 450VA and 255 watts and only works on 120V connection not 240.

The battery is said to run up to 2.1 hours if you connect a router and modem. I simulated a power outage using my laptop and a smartphone. The laptop brick outputs 65W and 19.9V which is more than the 10 watts the manufacturer suggests for this battery to last 2.1 hours. I used one of the Apple slow brick chargers to charge my phone. It was 35% battery when I plugged it in. The battery did last a little over two hours, the laptop was fully charged and the phone was 96%. That being said, this battery may last little more than suggested or less depending on your setup.

It is a great idea behind this to connect your router and modem, if the power goes out at least you can still be connected to the internet. It’s also good for connected homes such as smart hubs. You may still control some of your devices if they work on battery of course. This battery pack is so light that it can be hung on the wall. On the back of the device it has two screw holes so it can be hung. There’s no science to using this, just plug it to the wall and let it be. Before using it you have to plug the safety breaker that's on the bottom of the device.

It would be nice if the battery could last longer but for the price it is not a bad deal and from a respected brand like APC, this is their field. Something else to mention there’s no USB sockets in this device. In the box you get the battery backup surge and manual.

Excellent APC updated design and device.

I have an APC Back-UPS XS 1500 I got years ago and have replaced batteries a couple times. With our expanding electronics collection I wanted a new UPS that had pure sign wave and saw APC had the new BGM 1500 out and decided I wanted to give it a try.

    Unpacking:

The UPS came very nicely packaged in a heavy company logoed display box. Inside the UPS was packed well protected by cardboard and eco-friendly framework “everything inside the box was basically recyclable”. The UPS itself has a good heft to it, like our old ES 1500, it’s not exactly light tipping the scale at around 25lbs. Inside the box with it were a USB data cable and a quick start guide, that’s it.

    Setting up:

The first thing I had to do was hook up the battery and this time the battery door on the side instead of the bottom, it’s much easier to access this way instead of having to turn the unit upside down. Under the cover the leads were very well marked and only the positive “red” terminal had to be plugged in. After that was done I plugged the unit in and let it start charging up, there’s a noticeable “new” plastic / electronics smell and after a day of charging it had diminished quite a bit, a couple more days for it to go completely away. So be aware of this when you purchase and you may want to charge up in a separate room or outside if protected and away from heat.

After getting it fully charged “I left it plugged in overnight”, I proceeded to swap out our old unit. The one thing I noticed right away that the outlets on the back are not as clearly labeled as they are on our old unit. With the older model the outlets that have battery and surge have a grey square around them. With this new unit the outlets simply have a line with a label running around the outlets, so you really have to check which outlets you are plugging stuff into, otherwise hooking up equipment is pretty much the same.

There’s one really nice feature they’ve’ added to the BGM is there’s a LED light on the back that lights up the outlets quite well and is really handy when plugging in devices in a dark corner or under the desk “our old unit didn’t have this” and is a very welcome feature.

    Use:

Everything is pretty much the same as the older unit use wise and PowerChute personal identified it right away. The display is a good bit larger than the older model and it’s more on the top at an angle like in the pictures. It’s definitely easier to see from my chair, and the buttons are more conveniently placed now so I can see the display and press buttons without having to lean down to see what’s on the display. The only thing that’s a little annoying is the bright APS logo in white on the top of the device as you cannot turn it off and it’s quite distracting. I solved this by putting a piece of green clear plastic over it and now it’s much dimmer and for me esthetically more pleasing on the eye.

There’s also a large ring around the display that will correspond to information displayed on the screen like load, charge level, battery level, and when resting the ring can be set to numerous colors for a nice ambient light, “too bad they didn’t tie this with the APS logo”.

Power wise I have my desktop hooked up to it, it’s running a RTX 3080, a 10th gen I7 and a 750W gold PSU. I also have 4 monitors, a security system “DVR”, label printer and a Roku hooked up to the battery side. With all of that on and running a very graphic intensive game the display shows I’m pulling around 575w at full load, 190w while sitting here typing out this review. Run times show approximately 30min on low 190w load and just 7-8 min at my full 575w, not bad and pretty much in line with my old unit.

    Conclusion:

I really like this new BGM1500, it has plenty of outlets on the back “even with all my equipment” and the addition of two USB ports and one USB C on the front make this one nice UPS unit. I plugged in my Samsung S21 and Ampere shows it’s pulling 750mA on the regular USB port and 980mA using the USB C port, not fast but very useable, plus my phones weren’t very low on power so they aren’t trying to draw for quick charge either. The ports also work with my QI charger without issue which is great for me as I can get rid of one wall charger with this.

I really like this new design, the display is larger and much easier to read sitting at my desk due to the placement. The front USB ports are very handy and I’ll be using them a lot, plus this eliminates a couple wall chargers freeing up some space. The ambient lighting is nice and I can match it up with the lighting of my desktop. The lighting on the back is a feature that should have been there a long time ago and it’s very welcome to see. The lighting is also configurable where you can have the ring and back light on or you can have one or the other on or all off, it’s your choice, plus there are plenty of colors for you to cycle through for your taste.

Overall If you are looking for a new UPS that has plenty of power for a gaming system, a few monitors and some other equipment then this new BGM1500 is going to be worth grabbing. I’ve been using APC products since the mid-90s and I’ve never had an issue with them and they are one of my favorite brand of power protection devices out there.

Full of Power & Ports! Outstanding Back-Up System!

This is going to be a short and sweet review. APC is probably known as the best Back-UPS system maker and the Gaming 1500VA system only reinforces that.

This thing is a MONSTER! It at least weighs as much as a relatively small monster at least. The thing is 25lbs of solid battery and case.

Set-up is super easy. Unpack, open side panel, connect red wire, close up, and plug in. I let the battery charge up overnight before testing it out and it was a ready to go this morning (you can tell because the ring around the display goes from red to green).

I have a 50" 4k HDR smart TV, my Xbox Series X, the charge base for my wireless headphones, the charge base for the Xbox controller, and a clock all plugged into this thing. There are a ton of ports on the back both with UPS support as well as just surge protection. That's in addition to the comm ports for the internet and a connection to a computer to monitor/control some functions of the UPS (I did not do either the Comm or PC connections because they are not near my gaming rig, sorry).

I fired up the Xbox and started up Star Trek Online (not a hugely taxing game but the one I play a lot) and you can see that I'm hardly putting any load on it and would have 26 minutes of battery to go if I had an outage. I unplugged the UPS from the wall to test it and there wasn't so much as a flicker in the screen when I did it. The only way you could tell it had switched was a quick alarm and the fan started up in the UPS case.

I only have two minor quibbles:

    1. I would have liked the USBs on the back, but that it just me. I just don't like the cables in the front since it is otherwise such a sleek system.

    2. I don't need another source of 'game lighting'. I think we have taken the implementation of RGB lighting to a ridiculous level when even our UPS systems can have different colors glowing. Fortunately, it is easy to turn off. Again, this is just a personal preference and you do you.

If you want a great Back-UPS system for anything, not just gaming, you really can't go wrong with this APC system. It looks great, has a boatload of plug-ins, and tons of power. I'm going to get the black version for my wife's work office because they have been having a ton of outages lately and it has been messing with her work. It's pricey but worth it in this case.

Good clean power with many features

The APC gaming 1500VA battery back up is a rock-solid APC device that I have had great luck with other products in the past. This device simply keeps power constant without any dips or spikes in the power delivery. That is important to me as I want to keep my gaming rig and other electronic devices protected from power issues and this has an automatic voltage regulation system that helps with that. The over-all case design is slim and has a footprint that easily fits under my desk.

There are a total of 10 power plugs on the back, 6 provide power + surge protection and the remaining 4 provide surge protection only. You can also protect your network Ethernet cables with surge protection and there is also built in Coax (Cable) protection. Rounding out the back of the device is a very welcome customizable LED light so you can see where the plugs are. This is probably my favorite feature that it has. This has a very cool looking display that you can quickly see the current load on the battery and the remaining run time. The reactor circle will also change depending on the current state of the battery or what is going on with it. A few USB ports are also on the front of the battery that will allow you to plug in two USB Type A and one Type C device to it.

Another great feature is the fact that you can easily replace the batteries on this without much hassle, but my biggest gripe was the plastic panel that covers the battery. It was very easy to remove, but near impossible to get it back on. I tried multiple times to get it to fit back, but I was not able to accomplish this, so it sits halfway on, but I have that side of the device facing the wall, so I don’t have to look at it. It does not affect the functionality at all, and it is purely cosmetic as far as I can tell.

Now on to how this performs, the display has been accurate to my power draw on it, for example, I can see the remaining run time hang around 63 minutes when my Pc is just under normal load, but I fire up my games and the GPU is working, and I see that drop down dramatically. I also have every piece of my networking and streaming gear plugged into this and I have tested unplugging it from power and everything stayed up and I had plenty of time to power things down if I need to. I did leave it unplugged for 25 minutes (was able to mute the beeps) and no issues to report. Power was constant and consistent, and I have no fear of this not protecting during a power surge or outage. You can install the PowerChute software that will power down your PC in the event of an outage, but I did not install it, but I have used it in the past on previous APC battery back UPS. This is a little on the pricy side, but it does offer a lot for what you get. Protection is good and if you are looking for a good UPS for a gaming Rig, then you should give this one a look.

Complements and protects my gaming setup.

Speaking of the importance of UPS is crucial, especially if you have costly equipment and in an area where a power outage occurs due to weather factors. Personally, I own expensive pieces of equipment; my desktop computer is Alienware Aurora, and the Alienware monitor is 34.14" in addition to the newest Mac Mini M1. I take care of my equipment, but last year we had a scary storm that put my area under dark days with intermittent power and power flow fluctuation. The UPS is crucial in providing several benefits that can provide adequate power, protect devices from the harm of power interruption, and supply consistent regulated voltage that keeps devices safe. I chose this APC Gaming UPS mainly because of the lighting effects that aligns with my setup since my setup is a mix of Razer and Alienware products, and they are all about RGB, but as a function, this UPS works just like any other UPSs except the lighting that gives it a more excellent, modern, stylish look. Setup was straightforward; before powering up the UPS, I slid out the side cover of the UPS to plug the RED terminal and then slid it back. Second, I left the UPS plugged-in outlet overnight to ensure the batteries are fully charged, and then I plugged in my computer, monitor, and Mac mini into the battery/ surge outlets. With my setup and in a gaming session, I got back up battery time for 26 minutes which is sufficient time for me to end and save game checkpoints or even save office work safely. RGB is fantastic, and lights on the front and back can cycle through 12 different colors in sync mode, which is front or back color cannot be set separately "not a deal-breaker". The front screen provides various information ranging from battery info, load, and voltage. Power outlets are a total of ten (6) of them are Battery/ Surge while the rest (4) are surge only, and on the front, there are 3 USBs (2 USB-A & 1 USB-C) of power rated at 15 watts (each port provides 5 watts only if three devices are plugged in at once). I liked this UPS; it complements my setup, and size-wise is acceptable and functions well. When I simulated that I had a power outage by turning off the outlet plug, I did not feel any power abruption occurred, and power conversion was seamless.

Takeaways: compact, battery replacement is easy, lightning is good to have, modern design, plenty of power outlets. I wish the future design may sport wifi capability and a smartphone-based app to allow control set preference rather than using APC-branded PowerChute software that looks outdated. Other than that, it is a great UPS and works flawlessly.

Expensive for limited use, but works very well

    Battery backup aps

I don't want to say that this is a must-have, but it's a good thing to have battery backup if you suffer somewhat frequent power surges like I do. This is billed as a device that will allow you to keep gaming even if the power goes out, but for me if the power is out for an extended period of time I have bigger issues than simply staying online and playing video games.

However, as I said my house seems to suffer frequent power surges which can harm my consoles specifically my PS5. And as you probably know, when the power goes out when your PS5 or PS4 is on and you have extended storage there's always a risk that it will be damaged and it has to rebuild itself after powering back on. So for me, I think this APS gaming battery backup system is a nice addition to have so I don't have to necessarily worry about corrupt data on my hard drives. It works great, but it does have some shortcomings.

For anyone that's not familiar with APS battery backup systems, which are commonly used for computers and servers, they are essentially a fancy surge protector with a built-in battery. They usually have only a select number of outlets available to run off the battery. From my perspective, they aren't really designed to run computers for long periods of time but to give you the opportunity to safely shut down your computer if the power does in fact go out.

    IN THE BOX

The first thing you'll notice that this box is extremely heavy. Contained inside is a gigantic device that really looks like a game console. It's extremely heavy and has a power cord built into it. You'll also find a USB data cable that I haven't quite figured out what to do with.

    SET UP

Getting up and running is pretty simple. Just like any surge protector. You plug in the device into the wall and you plug all of your equipment into the back of the unit. Although I will add that before you use it you do have to plug in one of the power cables to the battery. You have to slide off the side of the device, which is easy to do, then you simply slide the red cable into the battery pack and put the case back together.

As I said previously, not all of the outlets on the back of the device will be powered by battery in the event The power goes out, those outlets simply act as a surge protector. But I was pleasantly surprised to see how many outlets that can be powered by the battery. There are 10 total outlets which is more than most common search protectors and six of them are connected to the battery while four are simply standard surge protected outlets.

As you could imagine, anything you want to be running on battery power should the power go out should be plugged in one of the six outlets. This device is designed to plug in your router, TV, and game console so that you can stay connected and continue playing games if the power goes out.

    SHORTCOMINGS

While my power has yet to go out since I've owned it, and I haven't tested the length of the battery time when the power's out, it's rated for x hours. But again if your power is going to be out for a while you might have other issues than just gaming like your refrigerator. So to me that's not really a big selling point, but I could see it being one for others.

The main shortcomings of this device are pretty obvious when you simply look at it. It's pretty darn big, imagine an Xbox 360 but even bigger and a lot heavier. So you have to find space in your setup for this device to sit. And it can only be positioned vertically, not horizontally. So space in your entertainment setup could be one issue. For me, that wasn't much of an issue as I had plenty of cabinets based to hide it but what I did have issues with and this is common with virtually all surge protectors, is the fact that all of the outlets are really close together. If all home entertainment devices had standard three-prong plugs it would not be an issue, but as we all know some devices have large power bricks. For example I use Phillips lighting around my TV and that has a large adapter that takes up two spaces. I also have my router, which also has an extremely wide power adapter. So plugging in those two devices essentially take up four outlets in and of themselves. Of course you can always get small outlet extenders which luckily I have a few, but it's something that you might have to deal with.

    DESIGN

I just want to highlight some of the thoughtful design aspects of this device which may not sway anybody who's considering buying it, but I think it does speak to the level of detail that was put into its design. Number one, it has some pretty cool lights and a LCD screen telling you about its status. You can hit a button to cycle the colors of the lights which is cool, and give it a futuristic look. I also really appreciate the lighting on the back of the device where the outlets are. There's a light on the back that illuminates just enough, the location of the plugs so you can see when you're plugging things in should, like me, you place The device in a cabinet or other dark space. This isn't a huge deal as you will probably only plug things in once and be done, but it's a nice little touch. You can cycle through on the display and see the voltage, watts, how much is left in the battery, which is nice but I have to admit that I don't always know what that means. I know what wattage and volts are generally speaking, but It doesn't mean anything to me in the context of having my devices plugged into it.

    CONCLUSION

If you're someone with frequent power surges where your power might go out for just a few brief moments, or if you're someone who is concerned about your electronics being damaged by power surges, or if you are a person that just wants to be prepared for all circumstances and be able to game when the power goes out, this is something that's definitely worth considering. But for the average person who isn't concerned about those types of issues, it's a pretty pricey surge protector. Not to mention that you will at some point have to replace the battery, and while I don't know how expensive that is, I imagine it's not cheap.

Excellent APC Battery Backup With A Gaming Touch

APC has done a nice job updating the look of their battery backup to compliment any gaming setup. This gaming variant comes in both white and black. APC is known for quality and long lasting battery backups and this one doesn't disappoint.

    Pros

*Setup: It comes in a nicely designed box with minimal wasted space. I took the battery backup out of the box, slid the side cover off, and plugged in the red battery lead. Apparently this comes unconnected due to shipping regulations. If you don't connect this cable it will not charge. I plugged the battery backup into the wall and let it charge overnight as it didn't come with any significant charge. You definitely can use it immediately after plugging it in; however, in the event of a power outage it will likely not have sufficient power to keep your system on.

*Use: With my main gaming computer, two monitors, and a set of speakers connected I get approximately 14-20 minutes of backup power (the load fluctuates depending on what I am actually doing on the computer). This is plenty sufficient to safely power down my system in the event of a power outage. It comes with a data port to USB connector that is used with the PowerChute Personal Legacy Software to monitor the battery on the desktop. While the software is completely optional, it does show some nice information such as blackout, under-voltage, over-voltage, and electrical noise over a specified time period. It also comes with a 6 foot angled power cord which works great with my standing desk.

*Tilted LCD Screen: I really like the tilted LCD screen with the customizable RBG LED ring. It is easy to read even at a wide angle. It is easily toggled between the different screens showing time remaining, load %, load voltage, etc.

*Back LEDs: Having LEDs located at the back of the battery backup makes plugging in cords much easier. Great design choice by APC.

*Front USB Ports: It is nice to have 3 USB charging ports (2 type A and 1 type C) located on the front of the battery backup. It is very convenient to be able to plug in my phone or watch when needed.

Overall, I am glad to be using the APC Gaming 1500 VA/ 900 W Battery Backup and Surge Protector with my gaming system. It provides peace of mind that my high end gaming system will be protected in the event of a power outage or voltage fluctuation.

Best looking APC ive ever seen/used

APC has come a long way, I replaced a very good older version (black with similar buttons and display) with this new completely beautiful APC.

They have always been quality products and I only get APC for my needs. I use this for my modem and have one camera hooked up which is great cause I live in Florida and previously when a storm knocked out our power for a week the older APC was able to keep me seing the inside of my house for days before it died (did not have the apc overloaded just the camera and modem).

Now getting back to this project the positives and negatives:

    Positives:

Looks amazing and you can configure the light in the back which btw is very useful especially if its kept in an area not well lit and your trying to see what your disconnecting.

Love the display much larger has an interactive ring that changes colors based on what is happening, if you unplug it and its providing backup power it wont be green and you will see the drain etc

Has 6 battery and surge connections and 4 surge only which is perfect for my needs

Has three ethernet connections one so you can download the app to see alot of info, and two that you can hook up your modem going in to protect it and computer going out (i have not done that yet).

I am going back to the look before finishing the positives, if you're looking for a sleek modern looking APC you will love this, I have it on a rustic computer chair that is white and it makes it look very neat.

    Negatives:

Very very heavy. obviously that huge battery makes this unit heavy so place it and leave it alone, or continue to move it around and get your workout for the day in.

Mine came very well packaged but somehow the heavy unit must have made contact with the three prong connection cable and bent one inwards. Was not an issue was easy to bent back slowly and carefully so it can plug into outlet.

Make sure you follow the directions (once you open the box up you cant miss it they are plastered on the top of the box (inside), it reminds you to connect the red wire so battery is enabled. Not difficult to do

First day I noticed a smell which I have with other APC's dont be alarmed its not burning up or not working right it just has that minor smell. My air purifier did not pick it up so must not be that bad.

Overall very pleased and it looks great

A Cool Take on Boring UPS for Gamers

Finally, a nice-looking UPS unit that does the job without compromise! The APC UPS Gaming is a 1500VA ten outlet 3 USB battery backup and surge protector housed in a sleek and modern unit that will protect your electronic investments. With its contemporary design and build, this will blend into any gaming setup you already have. In my opinion, it is about the size of a small tower, so it will feel like part of your setup as you butt it up next to your PC. With two colors to choose from, I have the Midnight Black version, while there is also a White version for those on that side of décor.

    LEDs

There are 2 LEDs that can be changed to 12 colors but BOTH must be the same color. The first noticeable LED encapsulates the big round display which acts as mood or accent lighting under your desk. With the press of a button you can cycle through the color options quickly. The LCD provides all pertinent information you'd want regarding voltage, load, battery info, current, etc. The front LED can display reactive colors depending on load, battery remaining, power events, etc., to get your attention when things are changing, leaving the rear LED as the static color you chose. My favorite light is the one on the back where you plug something in. You no longer need a flashlight in a dark area under your desk to see where to plug things in. My most significant drawback is the lack of lighting effects. If you are appealing to gamers, you know we want many different effects and require intricate patterns and customizability. This could be a dealbreaker as it is the ONLY reason this is "Gamer" vs. a regular UPS sold. There are no lighting effects like breathing or color cycle, which is a bummer. Maybe this should have waited until it was ready to launch. I am sure the next release will be able to do this since this is the first run.

    Outlets and Function

The outlets hold plugs in place firmly, and I do not worry about them falling out. The power distribution of the plugs is 6-Battery/Surge and 4-Surge Only protection. The top two are for the battery, which is great to have your router and PC on top as most important. The plugs are oriented so that wall warts can be placed horizontally without interfering with plugs underneath them. There are also 3 USB ports (2-USB-A 1-USB-C) that have a total output of 15W. The highest charging I could get my Note 20 Ultra to recognize was just fast charging, which is plenty fast. You can also load the software that will shut down your PC in the event of a power outage and battery depletion using the USB serial cable provided.

    Possible Future Improvements

-Add LED effects like rainbow cycle, breathing, strobe, etc.

-Allow for brightness adjustments of LED and individual custom colors

-Option to turn off BRIGHT APC logo. Quick fix is electric tape for those who can't stand it.

-Possibly work with APIs, if available, for other LED mobo makers to sync LEDs to PC w/ software.

-Add a strip of RGB somewhere on top or the side to make this more dramatic and appealing.

In all, this is more of an aesthetic price increase as there isn't any increased functionality for the extra price. If you are a gamer and have a few bucks or just want to fix that last thing that doesn't really fit your setup… this is for you! There are other options if you want to save money by going without LEDs to get the same protection.

While not as powerful it works well with this all-in -one which is less power hungry. Really like all the control feature of the APC RS700 which provides the same level of control as my larger APS unit.

New form factor saves space, but not practical

I decided to get a new APC UPS with more outlets when my older APC unit's battery died. This unit has 9 outlets and 2 USB A ports. Unfortunately, the spacing and position of the outlets didn't work out well with my devices' plugs (particularly my Western Digital hard drives), so I'm wasting at least 3 of the outlets since they are blocked.

The back-up battery doesn't last long

The back-up battery doesn't last long. When the battery dies, you won't be able to use the outlets that provide that capability. You will need to buy a replacement battery to do so. Buy the other brand.
