    Worth every dollar.

Our old mesh wifi system wasn’t delivering the required output, after months of search we locked our decision to Orbi and I must say we are pleased with our decision. We added one more satellite to extend the coverage and this unit being that. Delivery was prompt and so far we have had no issues.

    Pretty solid mesh system.

Besides the app not being very consistent during setup (more then once) the actual mesh system works great. I have had no issues. A third satellite was necessary due to the fact that most of the walls in my house are blowfly and the signal didn’t reach my bdrm.

    Thank you!!

I have the eero system through my cable company and I got one router and one extender. I have an older home with thick plaster walls as well as an original brick wall from an addition. my Ps5 was on the other side of the home from my router, anyways we were constantly being kicked from online games and speedtest.net kept ringing in at below 30. I finally decided to purchase an extender myself to put in the room with the PS5 and now speedtest.net comes in well over 100. Still not great but I'm no longer being kicked from games or having horrendous lag issues. This thing is great!

    Exactly what I needed

Works great. I have a eero system with the main unit in the living room and one beacon in my daughter's room and another beacon in my "tiny house" that is in the backyard where my wife works from home. I was thinking I may have to have Spectrum come and run a separate line for my wife's work but the beacon is doing a great job of providing internet out there. I will be purchasing another for my detached garage so I can hangout in there.

The Mesh system that just works!

Having tried extending my WiFi system with other equipment and not getting satisfactory results, I decided to invest in a Mesh system. If only I tried this approach first I would have saved myself a lot of grief and time! I have 3 eero pucks and 2 beacons and it all works flawlessly! I recommend this brand as the hardware and, importantly, the app, work seamlessly. Very impressed

Go with Eero products for extending Eero network

I struggled with weak signal in my garage. Tried a number of other range extenders, but they didn't work. Then I tried Eero Beacon, and it worked perfectly. If you already have a Eero-based network, do yourself a favor and just get a Beacon if you need to extend.

    Orbi RBS50 AC3000 Satellite - Flawless Performer

I purchased the RBS50 Add On satellite to go with the RBK50 system I already had to expand my coverage in the house. I bought this unit before installing the router and satellite because I wanted to bring them all up at the same time.

The reason I needed the additional satellite is because I have two PC's that are fed off of Ethernet cables. One is my Son's upstairs directly above my office and the other in my office. Another reason I was looking for a new WiFi solution was my cancelling of Comcast's 150 MBPS download/6 MBPS upload internet service. I was able to replace it with AT&T's Gigapower fiber-optic internet service with 840 MBPS download and 880 MBPS upload through the AT&T modem.

My previous router was the Netgear Nighthawk X6000 AC3200 router with a Nighthawk EX7000 AC1900 Exrtender in my office and an old Linksys extender in my Son's room. My office and my Son's room are 50-60 feet away from the router passing through several walls. The performance metrics below will highlight why I began looking for better networking equipment.

My PC: 150 MBPS download / 300 MBPS upload

    Son's PC: 60 MBPS down / 65 MBPS up

iPad 15 feet from the router: 99 MBPS down / 100 MBPS up

iPhone 6s same distance: Same results as above.

Installed the Orbi system. The add on satellite synced flawlessly with the router as did the other satellite. A quick call to Netgear support got me past a sticking point associated with the Orbi app. I updated the satellite firmware, then the router firmware. I went to both PC's and measured the hoped for improvement. I was hoping to double my previous performance at a minimum. I was not prepared for the actual performance.

My PC: 643 MBPS download / 740 MBPS upload

    Son's PC: 533 MBPS down / 640 MBPS up

iPad 15 feet from the router: 500 MBPS down / 550 MBPS up

iPhone 6s same distance: 375 MBPS down / 450 MBPS up

The improvement in performance is 4 fold to 9 fold better than my previous Netgear equipment which is only 3 years old. I am astonished at the performance. I check the performance everytime I get on my PC and it is rock solid stable at the numbers above.

The Orbi WiFi system is everything I thought it would be and THEN SOME. It is amazing technology and I can't wait to see what Netgear does for an encore!

    Fantastic Product, RF Engineer Purchased

I’ve been through a half dozen repeaters and “gaming” routers and none have provided the coverage, hand-offs, and load balancing for my 8,000 sq ft home as has this system. I purchased the 3 pack from Costco because it was much cheaper than anywhere else, and added this satellite to that network. I’ll likely add a 4th satellite to ensure 100% 5Ghz coverage, but aside from that, flawless. I’d love the software to be a bit more in depth in traffic and QOS per device.

excellent performance slightly difficult set up

This is my third Wi-Fi mesh system I have used, and the Orbi is excellent. What I like best about the Orbi is that it has fast performance and able to cover a large area because it has a dedicated 5 mHz band for back haul connection. Some mesh Wi-Fi systems and repeaters loss up to half the speed when using the extender or additional mesh unit. The dedicated channel for backhaul lets you experience faster speeds with your additional Orbi units. I have 50 up and 5 down cable internet. In my main room with the router and modem I can get speeds of up to 61 Mbps up and 6 Mbps down. In my living room I have an additional Orbi unit. I experience the exact same numbers. With my old systems my speed would be around 25 Mbps down and 2 Mbps Up. The Orbi I was able to have the exact same speeds 61 Mbps down and 6 Mbps up. I experienced the same numbers where I watch streaming down stairs with an iPad pro. No longer do I experience any buffering or lose of signal and clarity has been greatly improved. I set a third Orbi unit in my garage and here is where I love it. Speeds in my garage used to by 3 Mbps down and >1 Mbps up. With the Orbi I know have 40 Mbps down and 5 Mbps down. By my pool I could never have a signal and now my speeds are 30 Mbps down and 4 down. At the back of my property (3/4 of an acre about 120 feet from the main router and 100 feet from the 3rd Orbi unit) I have speeds of up to 30 Mbps down and 3 Mbps down. I now have internet all over my house and yard. I have an older house with plaster and concrete drywall, with a tiled full shower so there is a lot of barriers in my house preventing a strong signal.

Set up is through the website which can be slightly painful. I had to update the router and satellites and it took a while. I finally had to update them manually and it took several attempts to do this. There is an app, which shows you what is available and working, but it doesn’t really let you do much with the Orbi system.

I did not noticing a downgrade in performance when walking around my yard and house as I traveled from satellite to satellite and router. I like how the units are more vertical which leaves more space for other items on desks and shelves.

This is one of the better Wi-Fi mesh units out here if you are willing to upgrade the firmware and set up the system through your browser.

    A good addition

I have the Orbi 3000 mesh system which was dropping connecting . It comprised of a best and one extended . Putting in a 3 rd leg in the mesh improved performance- less disconnects etc.

I would get geek squad coverage because Netgear charges for coverage after a short period.

I have a nighthawk system in another system which is a stronger performer as its newer technology

    Exactly What We Needed

We had purchased the system consisting of one router and two satellites, but we found we had an inconsistent signal throughout our house, especially in the bonus room upstairs. Another issue we found with the product was the use of circle by Disney. It’s a really cool concept and the app is intuitive, but I believe the firmware is buggy as does others. With circle enabled we would lose network connectivity several times a day! We disabled circle and added this unit upstairs and we have not had a single issue! Great product, very intuitive, just could use a little work.

Difficult to set up with my netgear router. Never could get it to work and had to return it. I was told it would be much easier if I had a Ubiquiti router but I did not want to ditch my Netgear.

    As Advertised

It's an AP. It broadcasts WiFi. It works. I didn't use the ubiquit setup (mesh) I just use this as an AP for my existing wifi/network and it works fine. Setup was surprisingly easy and it performs admirably. The packaging is quite fancy too lol. Not the cheapest option, but it works, and I feel like I got what I paid for. I will strongly consider buying more of these in the future to expand my network.

    Great product

control 4 compatible - enterprise level performance at prosumer price. Many of the "mesh" networks just do not work. They do not hand off between access points correctly. r product is awesome. I have 2 setup - they work flawlessly together covering over 5500 sq feet inside and to the far corner of my property outside - 15000sq feet (I am getting 160mbs in the far corner outside and 260mbs inside using iPhone single antenna and speediest.net to measure speed). My house is stucco as well. When I was using the airport extreme I was getting half the speed. I did mount them to the celling hard wired to a POE ubiquiti switch and I have the cloud key which basically controls the units and shows you all of the network traffic - very cool. I tried the top of the line netgear product and it just did not work had to be reset every day. Would buy this again.

    Works Great Easy setup

This AP worked great and with the High Density antennas the 5g passed thru 2 floors to reach the Basement with good signal. But the lack of range to reach my backyard caused me to switch to a mesh system using a Pro and a Mesh for about the same price.

    Prosumer Ubiquiti

I love Ubiquiti products. They're easy enough for a Novice but pack the features for a Pro. Running one, two or more of these (maybe not the HDs, unless you really need ACs that can handle 500 clients each) wireless access points in your home or business will give you exceptional WiFi coverage, far beyond the s#1t you get from ISPs or bottom tier products from other network equipment manufacturers. I would highly recommend getting a Unifi POE switch and Cloud Key with a Unifi AC to make a perfect WiFi/Network system for home or office.

This product is great for wireless connectivty

Ubiquiti provide an amazing connectivity, I was able to cover the entire restaurant with one of this unit. Provide multiple user support and if you have fiber optic, you can get two LAN cable to provide dual speed split between two networks ports. The interface is very nice and you are able to clone from one device the setting to the other, they have their own dedicated app that provide you multiple functionality. You can create your login, I forgot to upload the picture, but I will do so soon. Thanks Ubiquiti for providing a high end experience, I am already passing the voice and recommending your device to others. I just installed three additional one in a townhouse and they work perfect, but I bought those on amazon because you guys dont have it on store.

Great Orbi Hub - Needs Newer Alexa Updates

First off, as an Orbi Hub it works exceptionally well. It connected seamlessly into my existing wired system and provided high speed coverage to the remaining weak zones of our large home.

The Alexa features work well, but it is a previous gen Alexa integration that is missing some newer capability. It currently does not allow the Hub to serve as a Drop In point, It does not allow the speaker to be part of a collection of speakers playing the same music, and Apple Music can be played over it. From what I have read these features may be added later, but you should be aware that this does not provide the full suite of Alexa features.

    Will Not Connect

I am running 4 nodes in my house, with 2 child nodes using a wired backchannel. I purchased this extender to fill out coverage in some hard to reach areas.

This extender simply will not connect to my other Velop nodes. I tried multiple times and event went so far as placing the extender in the same room as the wired parent node and still no luck, only flashing red lights (time and time again).

I will be retuning this product.

    no-brainer just get it

We already have the Velop tri-band three node set-up in our expanded cape cod house. It has a basement with Oled TV and PS4 gaming, main floor with den smart TV, and 3rd floor with 3 bedroom TVs, iPads, etc... The range of coverage could be spotty mostly because of signals having to penetrate beams, etc... Very good but not great. We also has spotty coverage on the backyard patio partly because of the signal blockage caused by old aluminum siding and cinder block foundation. We tried this easy to use and install device in a "soft-spot" inside the house and viola, excellent signal coverage. We also move it outside in the back patio when watching football with the TV and Roku device with no need for a cable box. Without this Velop device, the signal quality as per the Roku was "fair". With the Velop moved out there the signal quality was excellent. This is one of those devices that does what it says it will do. Best Buy also honored their own price matching policy when it went on sale a week after we bought it. What else do you need to pull the trigger? It also has a great warranty and tech support.

    Works as advertised!

As an addition to the mesh system, this work. I bought to add to an existing VELOP system, and it pairs and works great with the system even though it is not the tower style that the other three nodes are. Do beware that the MESH system is tricky to set up and Linksys is difficult to get help from. . conflicting tech support (this isnt unusual in the tech field Ive found) and often the advice is "unplug it and then plug it back in" - sigh. .5 stars for the individual product, 3.5 for the VELOP system, 2 for LINKSYS tech support (I was hung up on many times, including once in the middle of workarounds)

Easy addition to an existing Velop Mesh Network.

I just added this to my 3-node Velop network, and it's done exactly what I needed it to do.

I have cameras, Ring doorbells, and a MyQ Garage Door control system in the area of my garage, and the WiFi was just a little bit too weak out there for everything to work properly. Notifications were slow or missing, and camera views were weak or unavailable.

I'd previously added a range extender, but that only half worked, and then it quit working altogether. I couldn't get another one to work with the Velop system.

I knew I needed another node, but hadn't seen this option before. When I found it, I decided to just do it right, and bought this guy.

It was a truly brainless installation. You just add it like another Velop node, through their mobile device app. It quickly found the system, was incorporated into the mesh network, and that was it.

It's a more convenient way to add a node than the standard towers in a garage, and it plugged into the wall in the garage just fine. The status light is easily visible, and so far, it works just like it's supposed to.

The only disadvantage I can see for some people is that it doesn't have the capability of using a direct Ethernet connection, either for the device you're connecting to it (it's WiFi only) or for the "backhaul" to the network. It's strictly wireless, and that's just what I needed.

This is a nice add on if you need more coverage, however it's going to require a call to Linksys customer support to get it added to your network due to outdated firmware and no direct connection to an ethernet port.

It works as expected, although it was difficult to install because at the end it says there was no connection with the router even being in the same room. I tried several times (~10) and it worked at the very last one when I decided it was the last attempt before returning.

In terms of the performance, I would say it was improved, but not amazingly although I'm satisfied with it.

    Great Powerline Adapter

At first I was a bit skeptical because you see all the reviews and some people say there great and others just trash them. Since I’m working from home now I’ve moved my office to the basement. And if you all know basements...they are bad for WiFi connections. It doesn’t matter how fast your bandwidth is, what service company you use, or how new your home is. If you have a dead spot in your house nothing can fix that in my opinion. I have to say this option works wonders. No more drop Zoom calls, spotty calls that keep breaking up and everything works fantastic with direct connection. I’m sure this isn’t the best on the market but it certainly does work wonders in my house. Plus the price was great opposed to jumping directly with a more expensive option. Would highly recommend trying.

    Made the difference

My home office is in the back of the house, opposite where the wifi and router are in the den. Air routers proved worthless, so the choice was to run a 200' ethernet cable to the rear of the house, or something I hadn't heard of till recently but network extenders that use the wires in the house to send the signal. Viola! I had signal, and not the 115mbs that comes into the house, but a respectable 25-35mbs, which I suppose would be more had I gone the ethernet cable route, but for work (Covid quarantined working from home) it does just fine.

    Design flaw

Easy to set up as an extension of my WiFi router. An attractive package, seemingly well designed. But when I plugged it into an AC outlet, the top leaned away from the wall. Apparently the center of gravity is higher than its prongs. If there were a safe and easy way to tighten the grip of my outlet, OK. But I had to resort to two-sided sticky tape that may or may not solve the problem over time. Hope you have a snug fit in your wall outlet.

The setup is weird though, having to count on the timing of WPS setup, it never really felt like I was doing it right, and often it seems like it takes forever to get feedback that I did do it right.

And since it extends my WiFi, sometimes it feels like I am not even connected to it, but after deeper analysis, I am connected. I guess it does its job well as it makes the extension seamless. My Garage, which originally could only get (maybe) one bar of WiFi now gets all the bars.

I would consider this too much on the pricey side, but it works, and I am happy.

To make this better I bought a simple bracket and mounted it up on the wall, it looks pretty nice up there.

    Bad connection

I was hoping this WiFi booster was going to give me a much better connection but now it’s still weak but every 10 min or so it disconnects and I have to restart everything. Idk if I’m doing something wrong but the instructions seemed pretty straight forward and i followed them. I’m not liking this product at all and I’m thinking about returning it, I only bought it because I read all the other good reviews but this thing is lowkey garbage for the price. Wouldn’t recommend at the moment.

    Good router - some issues

This router is being used in a small business with around 10 users. All are using wireless access and need consistent speed performance. I think this router will deliver. My issue is regarding remote access. It appears that's only available through Linksys' "SmartWifi" program. This just adds a layer of difficulty. Would much rather use dyndns service. For this reason, I would not recommend to a friend.

Two purchased, 1st access point , 2nd extender

I used one ex7000 as an access point plugged into my vpn hardwired router to give me wifi since the router wasn't wireless to begin with.

I set the second ex7000 about 85 feet away in another building to be used as an "extender'. which meant the wifi signal from the 1st access point ex7000 had to go through one interior wall and two insulated exterior walls (including one being brick) to get to the second ex7000 used as an extender 85-90 ft away.

It works great, with a 195mbps signal strength getting to the extender, from an available 250 mbps available entering the 1st ex7000 used as an access point. I found that the best set up was to select just the transmission on 2.4 ghz and deselecting the use of the 5ghz on the ex7000 access point. I think shutting down the 5 ghz transmission helped push the 2.4 ghz better. Not sure if it was because the power in the ex7000 access point was more fully applied to the 2.4ghz by deselecting the transmission of the 5ghz, or if somehow the 5ghz signal disrupted the 2.4ghz coming out at the same time was the issue but I found setting the access point to just send out 2.4 ghz gave the set up a better extension.

The ex7000 used as an extender 85 ft away meanwhile, was set to recieve at 2.4 ghz and push at 5ghz locally. That way the dual band ability of the ex7000 the could be used more efficiently with the 2.4GHZ at the extender used to "suck in" the 2.4ghz signal being pushed across the distance by the access point which was set soley at 2.4ghz.

Very fast streaming available this way in the second building. The only real issue I had was that even though I manually set up the the two ex7000's to work this way, I also had to use the wps buttons on the two of them to get them to work together properly. I also plugged both ex7000s into small battery backup supplies to keep them connected during momentary power interruptions that I found had me having to redo the programming and wps sync twice before, which is a pain worth avoiding if it happens frequently enough. The signal stays stable, although after 5 weeks of stable operation I found simply remotely restarting the extender using the graphic user interface (DON'T just unplug the extender!)solved a weird problem where two out of four remote devices were connecting to wifi but were not getting internet service.

Altogether I am amazed at the signal strength over distance that these two ex7000s give with this setup.

I gave this review for those with limited knowledge like myself, that might use them this way, and find a couple of problems like I did.

    Easy Setup Great Admin Features

The Linksys WiFi Range extender is a good product that was easy to setup and has a good set of administration tools. The setup went very quick after taking out of the box and powering it up. You have an option of going through WPS or browser. I went through the browser as I have a lot of custom settings for my home network. The browser setup was very easy to follow step by step, including when having to unplug / physically relocate WiFi extender for a better location. The 4 antenna's are made very well and durable attached to the black casing. This is a big plus as other products that skimp on this causing the antennas to easily break off.

    Pros:

    Easy Setup

Athena's Are Made Well / Durable

Able to Disable Band Steering (If Needed)

Able to Disable Each Band Separately (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)

    Able to Perform Soft Reboot

    Spot Finder For Physical Placement

    Access Control by MAC Address

Able to Export Extender configuration settings in-case needing to restore

    Able to provide monitor/status logs

Able to export and save Logs

Able to export and save WiFi / Ethernet Physical Connections for Logs/Troubleshooting

Able to see connected clients details

Able to see signal strength of wireless clients

Able to perform router Ping trace to clients for network troubleshooting

Great Admin information for Upstream Network

    Cons:

Unable to power boost the signal

    Unable to Hide SSID

Unable to see transfer connection rate of wireless clients

Does not provide Packet Collision, multi packet rebroadcast information

    Wireless----

    Wizard:

On the first time setup the Wizard auto loads via browser however afterwards if you wish to go back through the setup you can re-select the wizard within the settings option.

    Basic Settings:

This provides the layout to modify the Upstream / Extended Wireless Settings / 2.4 GHz Band / 5 GHz band / Device Network Name and Time zone. You can also perform a soft reboot if needed. You will end up in this setting a lot when wanting to modify each item separately.

    WPS:

This allows setup through WPS for a WiFi protected setup. I did not use this feature as I had a lot of custom settings however it is a nice feature. You can also disable this feature after setup that way to have your network more secure.

    Spot Finder:

I really enjoyed this feature as it helps when trying to find the perfect spot within the home to place the Extender. The graph is very easy to understand and refreshes real time.

    Access Control:

For extra security you can lock down access to devices MAC address. This is a really nice feature that you do not find on a lot of extenders and can be used to help create 2 "zones" for wireless devices.

    Administration----

    Management:

This allows you to change the password for the device as well as create a backup of the configuration. I strongly recommend to change the password as soon as possible and once configured to create a backup file. You never know when you will have to restore the device and will save a lot of time.

    Log:

The log provides details of devices connected and the system device activities like Firmware checks. The log is not real time however does have a "refresh" option you can use to check for the latest activities. The logs are helpful for checking which Wireless/Ethernet devices have used the extender or if the latest firmware has been updated. You can also export the log file for record keeping which is a great feature.

    Diagnostics:

This provides a ping test to an IP address or URL going through the Extender itself. This is a great troubleshooting tool you do not see on a lot of WiFi extenders and glad to see it on here. You can ping your internal devices to check for packet loss as well as ping outside your network to check internet connection.

    Factory Defaults:

Pretty self explanatory, I have not had to perform this action as my extender has been working without issues.

    Firmware Upgrade:

You have the ability to manually update the Firmware or allow it to auto update. With the amount of firmware issues Linksys has been experiencing I am actually having to recommend "NOT" to enable Auto Update Firmware. I normally do not recommend this however with all the issues on their Linksys WRT32X AC3200 it leaves me little choice. However be sure to always check every now and for an updated firmware and review BEFORE updating as I do not see a rollback option.

    Status----

    Device Info:

This provides a great layout of device up time, Firmware version and network IP settings. It is nice to have all the information in one spot to easily access when needed.

    Ethernet Statistics:

This provides physical Ethernet connection and packet information. This is a great feature to help determine when a cabling issue arise. You are able to export and save the wired clients table for logs/troubleshooting. In addition you are able to disable the Ethernet Port Lights for rooms that need darkness.

    Upstream Network Statistics:

This provides a read out of your Upstream from your router to your extender device. This has detailed information of Signal strength , Signal quality, Link Rate, Channel Width and band. The information on here is extremely helpful and so glad to see Linksys makes it easy to provide this information

    Extended Wireless Statistics:

This provides information for the Extended network device performance. It is a lot less information than the Upstream Wireless Stats and would have liked to see a deeper layer here of providing packet collision / packet rebroadcasting.

    Wireless Client Table:

This provides a layout of all wireless clients currently connected. You are able to see the signal strength and modify the clients name if needed. You are also able to export the table to save for logs / troubleshooting. It is not real time however you can hit the refresh to update the table manually.

Overall this is a great WiFi extender that I would recommend for anyone who is finding low signal / dead spots within their network. I have not experienced any issues so far and enjoy the Administration features this device is able to perform.

Great (if you're in the Linksys ecosystem)

    Setup

The setup process for this range extender is very easy if you have another Linksys Max-Stream router. Pairing it with my Linksys EA9500 router involved simply pressing the WPS button on the side of the router, then the WPS button on the side of this range extended. Once the LED turned green, it was ready to move.

You'll want to place the range extended about half-ways between your router and the WiFi dead-zone section in your house. In my case, my bedroom on the second floor is furthest away from the router on the first floor. While the WiFi works in this room, I find my iPhone switching from the 5 GHz band to the 2.4 GHz band which can sometimes cause a delay while it changes. I would prefer to have the more stable 5 GHz band all over my house.

I placed the extender in the middle of the second floor and pulled up the web interface for the RE9000. Using the "Spot Finder" page on the web interface, it confirmed I was in the "just right" zone.

    Features

One of the most appealing features of this range extender is the "Seamless Roaming." You know how your phone automatically switches from cell tower to cell tower while you're driving? We really haven't been able to have seamless switching with WiFi. Even if you have two WiFi networks in your home, your phone will typically hold on to the first one it encounters even if it moves closer to a stronger WiFi network.

Seamless Roaming looks to solve that so you can have uninterrupted FaceTime calls, for example, as you move around your home. The RE9000 supports Seamless Roaming with some caveats:

    - The router must support it. This includes Linksys' other Max-Stream routers.

    - Your phone must also support it. This includes the iPhone 4s and later, the iPad 3rd generation and later, and the Samsung S4 and later. Your device manufacturer would be your best resource to determine if your phone supports 802.11k ("WiFi Roaming").

    Performance

When paired with a Max-Stream router, the two devices are able to dedicate a 5 GHz band between them, creating a solid connection suitable for high bandwidth applications such as 4K HD video streaming.

I tested this out by making sure my iPhone X was connected to the range extender (you can see what devices are connected in the web interface) and performing a speed test. My home connection maxes out at 30mbps (which is still suitable for 4K streaming) and I saw the same speed connecting to the RE9000 as I did connecting to my main EA9500 router. I tested out a 4K Amazon Video stream and it worked flawlessly while connected to the RE9000 range extender.

Overall, the RE9000 range extender really shines when paired with a Linksys Max-Stream router. It gives you Seamless Roaming which allows your device to quickly switch from your router to the range extended and vice versa. While the Linksys Max-Stream system is a somewhat pricey ecosystem to invest it, it does deliver high speed performance for larger homes with a fairly easy setup process.

    Simple and effective

The Linksys RE9000 Extender is a rather simple device that performs very well. I don't really have any true dead zones inside my house, but there are a few places on the second floor where the 5GHz band from the router is weak enough to cause a device to switch to 2.4 GHz (or at least try). The initial set up of the unit was fairly simple; I placed the extender where I thought it should go, plugged it in, and then connected to it with a tablet. There's a 'Spot Finder' functionality (in the setup interface) that allows you to see whether you've placed the device too close or too far from the router. In my case, I was a very close to being too close, so I moved the extender and went through the process again. However, once the initial setup was complete, I ran into a problem; I couldn't connect to the admin interface for the extender. I was using the links presented on the final page(s) of the setup interface, and I kept being told I wasn't connected to the extender. I actually reset the unit and went through the whole process again, only to have the same thing happen. I then went back through the 'Quick Start Guide' and discovered that the link to access the admin interface was completely different from what was presented on the final pages of the setup interface. Not a show stopper, but still frustrating. The admin settings are what you would expect to find; access control, logs, status, etc. Once up an running, the coverage on the upper floor of my house is superb. I tested a 4K video stream with another device streaming music and there were no hiccups whatsoever.

All in all, this product does what it's supposed, and does it well. It's fairly simple to set up (except for the faulty links I mentioned), and once it's up and running, you just forget it's there. I would recommend this to anyone looking to improve their WiFi signal in their house.

    Extended Pleasure

    ---SETUP---

The setup of the RE9000 Linksys extender was extremely easy. What is recommended is for you to connect it at a plug near your existing WiFi router so that you aren’t walking back and forth when setting it up. My existing router is a Linksys AC4000 with Max Stream. It works with any router, but the process is much smoother with a Linksys Max Stream router. After plugging in the RE9000 extender, you wait one minute for the blinking light to turn solid orange. Then, you press the WPS button on your router and the WPS button on the extender and they connect in about 1 minute. After that, you can unplug the extender and plug it in an area that has weak WiFi signal at your home. The light on the extender will tell you if it’s a good spot or not. Solid green means strong signal. Solid orange means a weak signal. A blinking orange light means that the extender is too far away from the existing router. Guide yourself based on that lighting and you are good.

    ---FEATURES---

The key feature of this extender is that, if you have a Linksys Router with Maxstream, you don’t need to change to another WiFi hotspot in your own home. Your wireless devices just recognize the extension and you have continuous internet wherever you go in your house.

    ---PERFORMANCE---

The performance of this extender is flawless. I have a two story home and my router is upstairs because that’s where my gaming consoles and PC are at. My family rarely spends time downstairs, except when we go to the kitchen. That’s where it’s a wild west scenario to pick up good WiFi. We usually just take our phones off WiFi to use our cell phone data while watching shows. With the extender, I now have a solid full WiFi signal and can stream without any interruptions.

    ---EXPECTATIONS---

The product meets my expectations. Before the extender, I couldn’t connect a Google Chromecast at the kitchen TV because it was too far from the router for a stable signal. Now, we are enjoying a strong signal and a good choice of entertainment from the Google Chromecast. This weekend, my extended family came over all with multiple WiFi devices. Approximately 25 devices were connected and it didn’t slow down my network in the area where the signal was weak before.

    ---VALUE---

The price for the extender is worth is if you are having weak signals in your home. Additionally, it doesn’t slow down other WiFi devices that are connected to your original router because it dedicates a 5 GHz Wi-Fi band to your router.

    ---APPROVAL---

I highly recommend this product for people who have large homes where their WiFi router is out of range at frequented areas of the house.

I had been experiencing intermittent connection in my backyard evrytime Being there knowing that my router promised a high range extension. I just set up Linksys RE9000 and walked up to my backyard and also around my house up to main street in front of my garage and still connected at full coverage bars undictaor icon which is awesme! Make sure to follow the setup prompts and place the extender in the right spot.

    This REALLY WORKS!

Like many, I've struggled for years with modems provided by Service Providers or purchased myself that simply did not give full house Wi-Fi coverage let alone reception to my separate Garage/Workshop. So, even though it bristled with multiple antennae like many other "powerful" units that I've tried before, I was ready for more disappointment when I installed the Linksys - RE9000 AC3000 MU-MIMO Wi-Fi Range Extender . The difference in Wi-Fi coverage was enormous.

Whereas before the Linksys RE9000 was installed my only reliable Wi-Fi signal was downstairs rooms except the farthest bedroom, After installing and setting it up, full four bar coverage extended to EVERY inch of my 1.1 acre lot from corner to corner. For the first time I can stream Wi-Fi without buffering in my separate garage in the work room which is in the part of the garage that is farthest from the house. The range I'm experiencing only comes if you run a LAN cable from your router to the area that you want better coverage. Otherwise, you can only located the RE9000 Extender as far away from the main router as its Wi-Fi signal will reach. For me this meant mounting it in the garage attic. The added advantage of the attic location is that the extra 2nd story height pushes the signal farther out to the edges of the property. I feel like my W-Fi has a whole new life.

    Pros:

    - Excellent Signal Strength/Range

    - Device recieving the Wi-Fi signal will be switched automatically and seamlessly between the main or the Linksys router (whichever has the stronger signal in that location), as you move around.

    - It will beam multiple signals at different frequencies if one frequency has too high a load.

    - The set up for wireless comunication between the main router and the Linksys RE-9000 is particularly easy. One button-push if you have a modern main Router.

    - Appears on Wi-Fi list with the same password and same name as your primary router (with "_EXT" after the name.

    Cons:

    - The more effective Wired LAN installation and setup is more complicated, but in my personal experience that was offset by the excellent, patient, phone in Technical Support.

Extends Wi-Fi range as it should.

This ranger extender does the job but at a slightly beefy price. I would expect the range to significantly increase with this applied; however, it's not as strong as I'd expect. Make sure that it's in an open space to maximize the range, and find a good midway point between where you want a stronger connection at and where your router/modem is located.

Don't have Mesh, but want to a fast extender?

I don't normally get excited about an Extender. Given that I have a mesh network, it does everything I need it to, without the hassle of an additional setup of a separate device. However, this is an easy recommendation for those already using Linksys setups with AC network standards, and don't want to buy an expensive mesh network setup.

I was pleasantly surprised with the easy setup process. If you have an existing router that supports WPS connections, the setup process is fairly straightforward and quick.

If you don't, you'll need to power up the device, connect to the network it broadcasts, and point your browser (with a connected device) to a URL for setup. The quick guide walks you through all the steps for this, and I found that it easily connected to my eero network without any issues.

I set this up in my office, where I really did need some additional ethernet ports for two PC's that don't have WiFi network adapters installed. I'm amazed with just how quick they connected, and speed tests showed them able to download at approx 220 (on a 300 connection) easily! I even connected a Media Center PVR that normally requires a wired connection to work properly, and it didn't lag at all throughout the house. Easily streaming any recorded content I had on other Media Center Extenders (Xbox 360's).

Compared to their previous extenders (the small white plug in type), this one was far superior in range, speed, and the setup was EASY! I tested it again using a Linksys WRT32X (took down my eero network) and had blazing fast speed throughout my two story home! Placement is really the best thing to really get right with this one, and if you set it up properly, you'll likely get the same speeds I was seeing over wireless (approx 280 down at the furthest point upstairs). Of course, your results may vary depending on your neighborhood wifi saturation, but I had no problems getting Wifi in my backyard, driveway, and the garage with just the WRT32X and this.

The unit is around the same size as a PS4 Controller in width, and can be wall mounted! I attached a couple of pictures for reference.

Really really impressed! If you're wanting to extend your router's range, this is a no brainer!

    Wow- huge speed increase

My hime is not too big 2200 sq feet but my router was in the basement and I had horrible speed upstairs. I set this up last night. Set up is a bit of a pain but I figured it out. Instructions leave out a lot of details.

I placed this in the spare bed room next to my office. Previous I had spotty coverage with downloads of 50 Mbps download and around 2 Mbps upload.

This morning I turn on my computer in the office and do a speed test. Holy Hanna!!! What a difference. Yes , happy with this purchase!

Good reboot once a week extender

I would give it 5 stars if I didn’t have to unplug and reboot it like once a week. Other than that, once it’s working, it does its job.

Do not get 30 days to return

This is NOT worth the money! This extender did absolutely nothing for us. I ordered this online and received it July 10th. On Aug 2nd I got on account to try and return and it says it’s past time to return! So you don’t even get 30 days to return it. Better yet I did not plug this in as soon as I got it, I waited two weeks. My fault . But I would think I at least had 30 days from purchase date .

Great product, works better than expected

With both my wife and myself working from home internet access has become even more important than pre Covid. Her work needs require her to plug her office phone into an Ethernet connection. Where she is working though is no where near our router and moving either her or the router was not a desirable option. Initially we solved this dilemma with a 50' Ethernet cable running through our house. Not through the walls, but on the floor, along walls and down the stairs. I put throw rugs over it to protect it and prevent tripping. I read that the NETGEAR - Nighthawk X4 AC2200 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender had an Ethernet port and decided to give it a try. Once set up we plugged her phone into the port and it worked. Her computer is connected via Ethernet from that phone. When I ran a speed test on her computer vs my computer which is a desktop plugged directly into the router I noticed only an 8% drop in speed on her computer. This is negligible and has had no noticeable effect on performance. I found it to be just a bit finicky when setting it up and found using an Ethernet cable for setup instead of WiFi worked better for me. Once set up though it has worked flawlessly for just over a week now.

Better than I expected for an entry-level device

I needed a range extender to get a 2.4 ghz wifi signal into a metal-cased low voltage transformer on the other side of my kitchen's exterior wall. It was a job that I expected my nearby Ubiquiti access point to handle, but it wasn't up to the task. I was ready to do without a wifi-controlled switch for my backyard lighting when I decided to find a cheap wifi extender as a last-ditch experiment.

This one was the least expensive one that I found at Best Buy. After some discussion with the salesperson, I concluded this might be all that I needed.

I mounted it on an outlet on a kitchen counter and fired it up. Because it is small white box, it's unobtrusive there. In fact, it's barely noticeable.

When I went outside to program the transformer's timer, not immediately found the extender's SSID and joined my LAN. It hasn't skipped a beat since.

In addition to the one job that I asked it to do, the extender sends a signal well into my backyard. I wouldn't use it to stream hi res video, but it is usable by phones and tablets out on the deck. Now that I have reliable internet in the backyard, my next grill will be wifi-controlled.

    Problem Solved

I have AT&T internet cause it’s either that or Spectrum. Internet comes into the house in the living room. Problem is the bedrooms are in 3 of the 4 corners of the house so it’s spread out. 1 room was spotty at best. 1 was 50% of the time. 1 was zero bars always. With our new NetGear Range Extender, full bars all over. I work from home and my kids are always online with homework and we stream our TVs. Best Buy at a totally affordable price that I’ve made in years. Don’t wait, get one. Wish I tried this before!

The real deal, instead of a steal.

This Netgear Extender was fairly easy to set up, and has operated perfectly from the moment it was activated. So at least a few weeks in, this item is doing the job much better than the piece of crap from Linksys it replaced. And was much cheaper than Linksys support wanted to charge me to remotely "clean" my computer of unwanted hitchhikers on my wifi that barely reached from the office to the living room. Give me a break.

Netgear WiFi range extender is no joke

I have wifi lighting in one bedroom and it was always getting disconnected. So obviously I had to keep setting it back up - which wasn't the quickest or most straightforward task to complete. Also, I would oftentimes lose a signal on that side of the house with different devices.

Anyways, after researching different solutions but having these attempts fail to boost the connection, I finally came across wifi extenders - so glad I did! Honestly, it seemed a little too good to be true. So more research by me. I read some other 'professional' reviews but what really sold me were the Best Buy reviews right here. After reading many of them I was convinced and so went ahead, bought it, plugged it in and problem solved!

Who knew you could solve so many problems with only $40!

Internal issue in the computer. Was easy to setup but unfortunately had to return it. Once again Best Buy is a great retailer to deal with.

Bought this to extend range into basement for older laptop. It works, but you need to link to the extender separately (home router.ext). Although the signal is 5 bars, and all lights are green, the download speed is about half than when the laptop is near the main router. Still works for the basic Internet stuff. 4 stars because of lower speed and extra connection.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.

The Good: This Dual band WIFI mesh extender device can broadcast the same SSIDs that your router uses for both the 2,4GHZ and 5GHZ bands using the same passwords. This makes it more transparent for your devices when roaming through the house. You also don't need to setup another network SSID on each of your devices. It also has good range to reach dead spots in your home. It's easy to setup with the Nethawk smartphone app or using your PC. That's where the good ends. If it works it works but if it doesn't good luck.

The Bad: WPS never worked for the initial setup. No error message or logs. I wanted to extend both the bands to reach devices in the far reaches of my house. It is supposed to establish an uplink to your router for both bands and broadcast both bands to your devices. The 5GHZ uplink would establish with Great signal strength then the Netgear end would disconnect. Devices would connect to both the Netgear broadcast SSIDs So all your traffic would only connect through the 2.4GHZ uplink to your router. Again No Logs, No Error Messages, No trouble shooting help. I reset the devices multiple times and ran setup with the same results. I returned the unit figuring I had a bad device. Nope, the new unit did the same thing, so it looks like a bad engineering job and testing certification by Netgear.

The Ugly: Poor documentation online, no trouble shooting on my issue. I opened several trouble tickets with Netgear and their responses left me thinking that they don't even read your trouble description. Worthless help.

I reconfigured the device using their Fastlane technology where it only broadcasts one SSID, 2.4 or 5 and uses the opposite band 5 or 2.4 GHZ band as the uplink. This works in both configurations.

But it defeats the purpose of why I purchased the device to extend both bands to weak spots in my home. So, My take on this is that Netgear really wants to sell you two devices to extend both bands. Very Ugly.

Extends Range Nicely, But There's a Cost

In large homes, a Wi-Fi signal will inevitably degrade as it travels through walls and other sources of interference. I was eager to test the Linksys RE7000 in a 4-bedroom house where the 2 farthest bedrooms have always had spotty Wi-Fi coverage. The range of my network has certainly been extended, but there are a few quirks and drawbacks that buyers should be aware of. Put simply: If you currently use a Linksys Max-Stream router, set-up and use of this range extender will be much smoother. Regardless of the brand of your router, there may be a noticeable degradation in overall network speeds when using this extender. Read on for my full experience.

    BACKGROUND

    - My current router is a Linksys Max-Stream EA7500, which currently broadcasts two signals and SSIDs: one for 2.4 GHz and one for 5 GHz.

    - The router and extender are used in a 2-story, 4-bedroom home. The router is centrally located on the bottom floor. The two bedrooms directly above it have always received a great Wi-Fi signal, even without the extender. The other 2 bedrooms on the far side of the house have spotty reception, at best - particularly on the 5 GHz band.

    - The installation guide offers two methods for configuring this extender: using the WPS buttons on the extender and your router (if equipped); or using a browser-based utility that will allow for more configuration options.

    GOOD:

    - Setup is relatively easy, but I would highly recommend using the browser-based setup rather than the WPS buttons. The browser-based utility will tell you whether or not you've placed the extender in an ideal location (Linksys calls this "Spot Finder"). If you have a dual-band network like I do, you can choose which bands you want to extend (both 2.4 and 5 GHz, or just one of them). After following the step-by-step instructions, the light on the extender will turn a solid green, indicating that you're good to go. Just make sure that Spot Finder utility indicates that the extender is in a "Just Right" location -- This will typically be about midway between the router and the areas where Wi-Fi is weak or non-existent.

    - Because I have a Linksys Max-Stream router, the new, extended network uses the same name/SSID as my main network. So when looking at the lists of available networks on my devices, I still see only my two SSIDs: one for 2.4 GHz; one for 5 GHz. Linksys calls this "seamless roaming."

    - In my case, the range of my network has certainly improved. The 2 bedrooms that previously had a weak signal now show full bars on both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. Without the extender, YouTube videos and complex webpages would take several minutes to fully load. Now, videos and webpages load at acceptable/normal speeds.

    BAD:

    - I couldn't complete setup using the WPS buttons. I tried three times, but the light kept blinking orange (indicating an error). Luckily the browser-based setup (described above) seems to be the better option, anyways.

    - If you have a non-Linksys router, your extended network will be identified using "_Ext" at the end of your main network name. Not a huge issue, but you'll have to reconfigure your devices to connect to the "_Ext" network when you're out of range of your main network.

    - Speeds on the extended network are noticeably slower compared to the main, non-extended network. I ran several speed tests -- my Internet download speed drops from 150 mbps on the main network (the max provided by my ISP) to only about 75 mbps on the extended network. The speeds fluctuate greatly, but I have yet to achieve anything higher than 80 mbps on the extended network. Latency has also increased -- ping times (using speedtest.net) are around 45 milliseconds on the extended network, compared to 10 milliseconds on the main network.

    - Even as I move away from the range extender, my devices stay connected to the slower, extended network for some time before they finally jump back over to the main, faster network. This will, of course, vary by device, but it can be frustrating when you're within feet of the router and expect full download speeds. Usually turning a device's Wi-Fi off and then on again will force it to connect to the main network.

    OVERALL:

For my purposes, the RE7000 range extender does its job and succeeds in blanketing my entire house with a usable Wi-Fi signal. However, I'm slightly disappointed that my overall Wi-Fi network speeds have taken a hit. If you need maximum Internet speeds in all areas of your house, then this might not be the right solution. But if you're just looking for a way to be able to browse the web or stream videos in areas where Wi-Fi is hard to reach, then give this a look.

    Crazy Range! Excellent Coverage

The Linksys RE 7000 Range Extender has been a real treat to use. Our Wi-Fi has been an issue for a while with horrible range coverage and speed inconsistencies so I was excited to finally test this. Setup is fairly straightforward and I am confident that most can set this up without any difficulty. The RE 7000 Linksys Range extender can be used in one of two ways: wired or wirelessly. The wired method involves connecting an Ethernet from your modem/router to the bottom of the RE7000, which then plugs in to the wall. The wired method is recommended as opposed to the wireless since it creates an access point directly from your source, thus providing maximum speed. The wireless method uses your Wi-Fi signal to talk to the range extender, and increases the range; however the speed will be less as you have to rely on an increased latency between your device to the extender then back to your original Wi-Fi signal. I tested both methods and while coverage did improve with the wireless method, our results were still inconsistent because our Wi-Fi built into our modem is inconsistent. I want to add if your connection is fast enough, either method will suit your needs, but my recommendation, as well as Linksys's recommendation, is to go in expecting to use the wired method. All my results shown here will be using the wired method as they represent what the RE7000 was designed to do: Increased range and fast, consistent speed. In addition, the WPS button on the RE7000 also worked as designed when connecting my phone and our Sony TV upstairs to the extender. I would try both methods if any problems should arise.

Setup is done primarily through the web browser interface, but you can also connect via the IP address they give you for a manual based install. I did the web-based method as most will choose that way and surprisingly the interface is straightforward. After you create an admin password, it takes you to the settings. For each of the two Wi-Fi frequencies, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, they are split into separate access points, which can be enabled or disabled depending on your preference. On the wireless installation, your access point may use the same name as your old router but will add "_EXT" at the end of it. Likewise, you can always customize your SSID. As for any issues, the only one I ran into was after I had restored the RE7000 to factory settings, my Acer Iconia One tablet kept asking for the admin password that had been erased every time I tried to load the extender web address. I bypassed this by using the IP number used for manual setup; it redirected me back to the welcome screen. If that doesn't work, try clearing the browser cookies and cache. I would also recommend copy the welcome screen's URL during your first initial setup just in case you will need to start over. Above all, be patient, as networking sometimes requires you to redo things, often times working after the tenth time.

In our house, we have had many Wi-Fi issues over the last year or so; mainly inconsistent speeds and coverage was nearly nonexistent if you were anywhere other than directly above the study, upstairs directly above the router or actually in the study. However, using the wired method with the RE7000, our range increased dramatically and the consistency was a HUGE improvement. Essentially, the second half of our house that previously had no Wi-Fi coverage before now had full bars and a strong consistent 18-22 MBPS download and 2.5 upload. In my room, with the door shut, the range extender provided full bars of coverage when before it was average even with the door left open. The range improved so much that places that would see very poor signal strength now had almost nearly full coverage! My room saw the biggest jump over the inconsistent numbers found on the old Wi-Fi in comparison to the strong consistent signal using the range extender. Using the same test server, I noted:

    Old Router (Pass 1) 8.28 MB Download/ 2.11 MB Upload/ 34 ms

Old Router (Pass 2) 3.27 MB Download/0.66 MB Upload/34 ms

    RE7000 (Pass 1) 22.07 MB Download/2.37 MB Upload/33 ms

    RE7000 (Pass 2) 22.24 MB Download/2.30 MB Upload/33 ms

In the dining room, I noted the results using an AE3000 Linksys USB Adapter connected to my newly built desktop. I noted the results below:

Old Router: 6.00 MB Download/1.71 MB Upload/23 ms

    RE7000: 22.85 MB Download/1.93 MB Upload/22 ms

As you can see, the RE 7000 performance is absolutely stunning and the consistency has drastically improved. Even places that still have only average bars are so much faster and smooth because our old modem simply could not handle the square footage of our home. In essence, if you need to improve your range and do not mind using the wired connection (perhaps you have a way to hide the cable) then this is absolutely recommended. Wirelessly, I caution to make sure your source is fast and consistent; once done, the RE7000 will tremendously improve your range of the signal. In fact, picking up the device in the backyard was mind bottling!

I would like to mention that when you pair this range extender with compatible Max Stream Linksys Routers (EA7500/9500), the range extender will automatically detect this feature during setup. Next, a message will pop up noting that it will streamline the setup and that it recommends using the same settings used on the main network for a seamless experience. I tested this using the wireless method with my EA9500, since this would be the method you would use to activate such a feature. Thus, because of this, I cannot comment if this would work by using a wired connection from the router to the RE7000 but I imagine it would and thus provide a better experience. Anyways, once connected, on Wi-Fi devices you will not see what physical device you are connected to: both the RE7000 and whichever router used will appear under the same SSID. On extremely fast connections, where delay would be nonexistent, I assume this would be a nice experience, but on slower ones, like ours, I was noticing some spikes in latency and inconsistent numbers once again. Granted, they were not as wild as they were before. Conclusively, your connection will alter your experience here. Personally, I would prefer to see the two access points created by the RE7000, as well as those from the router so I know what I am connected to. Overall, it is a nice feature depending on your preference and connection.

The RE7000 Range extender is an amazing product that I have no doubt will improve your wireless experience no matter which method used to setup. With my precautions, it has the chance to drastically improve your networking needs; much like it did when I used it with an Ethernet cable. The range and performance is definitely there. At its cost, it could prove quite drastically the most effective way to improve your range and access to Wi-Fi, especially in large or multistory houses. I would recommend that if you are purchasing this, check to see if you have the ability to use this with a wired connection. If you do, then I have no doubt you will be pleased like I have been. If you need to use the wireless feature, I still recommend this, but like before I caution that your results will drastically vary depending on your source connection, location of the extender, and your household construction. Fast connections should have no problem, but slower ones may experience some interruption or increased latency, as we are more prone to "feel" it when we do not have access to our full consistent speed. Overall the RE7000 is highly recommended and certainly performs like a five star product!

Best AC Wireless Extender with MU-MIMO feature

This is world first AC wireless range extender with MU-MIMO feature from Linksys displayed at CES 2016.

I am extremely pleased with this purchase and wireless extender performance. I am not a big fan of wireless extender and this one changed my assumptions. I had some dead spots at my 2800 feet home (especially second floor) and this extender resolved all the issues. This is one the fastest wireless extender in the market delivering superior Wifi speed. Before the setup, the wireless speed was only 30 mbps / 10 mbps download / upload speed. After the setup, I am getting 225mbps / 33 mbps in second floor which is unbelievable speed.

The setup was very easy and configured dual band wireless (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) less than 5 mins. This extender works with any existing wireless router and I have configured this extender with Netgear Nighthawk X8 router. If your router supports WPS mode, setup can be done quickly for dual bands or you can use the browser to configure the extender.

By default, it will create new SSIDs for 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz. If you would like to use the same name as your existing SSID, you can change it in configuration page after the initial setup.

This extender has many excellent features. The most useful features are the beam forming and the cross band technology features. This is the first extender supports MU-MIMO feature. It has 1 Gigabit Ethernet port which can be used for wired network. Wi-Fi speed is unbelievable in 2nd floor and speed tests delivered more than 225mbps on Galaxy Note 5 phone. With wired connection my results around 360mbps download and 35mbps upload.

Standard range extender with some software issues

I purchased this extender to address a particular problem. My house is long and the internet enters on one end. This means my wireless router doesn’t reach the opposite end very well. Signal strength is good but speed drops noticeably. I was hoping for this to compliment my EA9500 as it was said to be designed specifically for this router. In the end what I have come up with is a mixed bag.

For the far end of the house my speed has definitely improved. The problem is it has done so at the expense of speed in the middle. The actual router itself has excellent speed and good range. Without the extender I can achieve over 300Mbps in the center of the house. With the range extender, the highest I regularly achieve is 200Mbps. The problem is this range extender, even when paired with the router it is designed for cuts the original speed in half. I have a 400Mbps internet. Directly connected to the primary WiFi I can get 376Mbps, on the WiFi. When the extender is involved it uses half the bands for a return signal effectively cutting any speed in half. This would be fine if the range extender only did this at the far end of the house. The problem is that in the middle sometimes the signal strength is stronger from the extender by just a little compared to the router and so I end up losing speed. I would push the extender further out but the signal strength to the extender is too poor.

This brings me to another issue, the configuration. The box says it has an easy way to determine signal strength leading to believe there is some sort of meter on the outside of the unit. There is not. In fact you have to manually log into the unit to see signal strength. The problem with this is the documentation for setup isn’t the greatest. Once the instructions were sorted out another issue is that sometimes during the initial setup it just doesn’t connect to the source router but you can’t be sure if it is not connecting or just slow. The instructions tell you if you are extending a compatible router you can keep the same WiFi name but instructions are vague on how to do this. They mostly point you to using WPS. From what I can tell this can only extend 1 2.4GHz and 1 5GHz network and the companion router actually provides a total of 4, two primary and two guests. I wasn’t able to figure out if it actually extends the guest networks but reading the documentation I am led to believe it does not.

There is a possible workaround to the speed issue is to use this as a hardwired extender as it has an Ethernet port. The far side of my house, like most, doesn’t have Ethernet as this point so I couldn’t test but from what I can tell it doesn’t exactly extend the WiFi when hardwired so much as create a _EXT WiFi. This means if you have a WiFi called MyHouse then the extender will create another called MyHouse_EXT. Again I didn’t have a way to try this but that isn’t exactly seamless roaming.

Currently I have the extender paired to my router via WiFi. The WPS failed for me so I had to use the password method. The instructions don’t tell you but when pairing with a compatible router you enter the password for the WiFi you are extending.

In regards to reliability it has been a mixed bag. I have had some power issues lately so I can’t blame everything on the extender but I have had to reset it at least 5 times in about 2 weeks. Sometimes everything will look ok but I just can’t browse the internet. I reset the extender and everything is good again. In the end it has been helpful and I am hoping if I can get a cable to the other side of the house it might be more helpful. At this point I have mixed feelings about this unit. All in all though this unit is still new and nearly every grip of mine can be fixed by future firmware upgrades which it doesn’t automatically. I’m hoping that it will improve over time.

    Pros

    Does extend range

    Improves speed in distant areas

When paired wirelessly with a compatible router it offers seamless roaming

Clutter free case with no external antennas means it can be installed in the open without getting snagged or bringing attention to itself

Brings up a warning webpage if the main WiFi is not accessible making troubleshooting quicker. You know you have to reset your router instead of the extender.

    Can be wired or hardwired

Can act as an affordable standalone wireless AC access point

    Automatically updates firmware

    Cons

Cuts speed of main WiFi in half even when paired with the router that it is a companion for

Overlaps the primary WiFi zone and can cause loss of speed in the overlap zone

Can be unstable. Sometimes it just loses the connection with the main router and needs to be unplugged

    Poor documentation

Leans heavily on WPS setup which is less secure to leave active

Slow bootup and connection makes you think the unit is not connecting

Signal Strength meter is software based slowing down placement and feels less intuitive

Internal antennas don’t reach as far

Final thoughts. Overall if this range extender can be an affordable way to extend your existing WiFi without requiring a complete change as long as you can accept its limitations, setup woes, and stability. It has no standout features but can get the job done. Stability issues will likely be sorted out in a future firmware upgraded, which are automatic. Hardware wise it is a decent box. It just needs software refinements. If Linksys could find a way to pair a unit such as this with their routers without cutting the speed in half then it could be a perfect solution for those who want a high end router without dealing with a mesh. This unit can still get the job done but it won't surprise you with great features and easy setup.

    Minimum System Requirements

    - PC, MAC, or tablet with Wi-Fi Enabled

    - AC Power Outlet

    - 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac wireless router or access point

    - Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0, Firefox 20, Safari 5.1, or Google Chrome 25.0 browsers or higher

    Testing/Setup/Pros & Cons

    - Device is a little bulky in the sense of finding where to plug it in

    - Setup of the device was extremely simple

    - Quick start guide is on point

    - I used the WPS button to setup both 2.4 & 5.0 connections (push button to connect)

    - Unplugging and moving it did need/require me to redo the push button to connect setup (this was after setting it up and following directions on the quick start guide)

    - Testing of current speed(s) without the range extender (Desktop = 16ms ping, 58.01 mbps down, 04.23 mbps up//Phone = 15ms ping, 53.47 mbps down, 5.33 mbps up)

    - Testing after successfully hooking up the range extender (Desktop = 19ms ping, 66.36 mbps down, 04.42 mbps up//Phone = 27ms ping, 66.03 mbps down, 04.76ms up)

    - Keep in mind, the testing was done with my ISP being Charter and having the 60 mbps plan (so in this sense, the booster kicked in and went over the 60 mbps ISP plan

    - Changing the password for the extended network was a little confusing to me

    - Extender Access Password under Administration (Management) *I thought this was the password for my Wi-Fi as opposed to the extender

    - No log out button? Some people may not care. For me, I would like to have a log out button

    - Extender.Linksys.com (works on mobile as well/mobile view capable) which is great!

    - Spot finder technology is not a separate app or software but is built into the Extender.Linksys.com portal which shows you if your extender is in the optimal spot. This is awesome!

    - Wireless access points get doubled with the extender. What I mean is that when you originally have 2 wireless access points (whatever your wireless access point names are) you end up having 2 more that have *ext at the end of them. So you basically get 4 wireless access points. One is for 2.4 ghz and the other is for 5.0 ghz. Since I have 2, I ended up having 4 total. To some people, this gets confusing and its a little unorganized.

    No more dead spots!

Who’s it for: For combatting the wifi dead spots in your home due to structural interferences

Pros: Easy to setup and only takes up one plug space

Cons: Could use a better iphone app

I had a big problem with getting complete wifi coverage in my townhome. Its not like its super big at 1700sq feet but it’s the walls and competing radio interferences that creates this dreadful dead spots in my home.

My setup is this: my wifi router is located upstairs in my two-level home. I have no issues connecting to both 5ghz and 2.4ghz channels upstairs. But I get spotty wifi signal when im on the main floor in the living room. The wifi signal will be so degraded that I get faster internet if I switched my iphone over to LTE. I’m trying to avoid racking up my cell phone’s LTE data plan when im at home! My Linksys router has 8 adjustable antennas with “beam forming” with no luck of reaching me on my couch. I almost gave up until I did more research that I could benefit from an extender like this Linksys RE7000.

The setup was very easy. Probably the easiest extender I have ever used. It’s an extender that only takes up one power socket space. This is nice since it doesn’t require any table surface so you can plug this unit in behind a couch if you want to. To start extending your current wifi router, which this works with any branded router, just press the WPS button on the side of the extender and press the same button on your router. Within 5 mins and you will be extending both your 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi bands at near full speeds as if you were sitting next to the wifi router itself. The form factor is worth noting. Its brilliantly simple. There is only one Ethernet jack if you want to plug in something that’s not wifi equipped but it’s the one simple status light and one WPS connect button that makes this form factor awesome. The one light changes from amber to green with green being fully connected. And the fact that it’s all self-contained in one unit and only takes up one outlet is worth its weight in gold.

In conclusion, it’s a very competitively priced wifi extender that’s very simple to install and get running. I have no more dead spots in my home anymore and I’m able to still use my wifi when im a few houses down the street too! An important tip is proper location for your wifi extender. Too close to your router and it won’t actually help your dead spots. Too far from your router and you will not gain any wifi strength. Luckily, Linksys has a web based page that shows if you are too close to your router or too far from your router for the extender to work perfectly. This is a no brainer installation. If I didn’t have that tool, I wouldn’t have known that my main floor bathroom was the best location and not the kitchen location that I originally thought would be best. This could have been incorporated into their phone app but for some reason its web based. A bonus for using a compatible Linksys router with a Linksys extender is the “seamless roaming” option. I can walk around the house between both levels without dropping a signal and manually changing my wifi connection.

I would recommend this RE7000 to anyone looking to decrease their wifi dead spots!

I hope my review helped in your decision!

Linksys AC1900 Extender plus is a PLUS

Initial impressions: Box is very appealing and well thought out, all the info you need to know is on it.

One thing that stood out was the ability to connect to a site to find the trouble spots or low signal strength areas. This takes the guess work out of where to put the unit.

I was surprised at how little filled the box. Just the unit, a quick start guide and a warranty/safety guide.

The instructions were clear and concise and was up and running in no time. Very user friendly.

Before I plugged in the unit, I went to each room and ran a test with speedtest.net, in the front of the house, the back, the garage and front and back yards. I was getting about 29.9 mbps on main level and 26.9 in the yards.

I live in a ranch style house with 1750 sqft on ground level and 1750 sqft in the finished basement.

With my main router installed on the lower level in the middle of the house.

Once I plugged in the unit and was setting it up, which took about 4 minutes. The phone/tablet utility said the garage area was the best spot to place the unit.

The unit can be used for a hotspot or an extension to your network. I chose to use mine as an extension.

If you were going to use it as a hot spot there is also an area for a network Ethernet cord to attach to.

When you are setting it up, the utility asks which method you would like to use. (Hot spot or Ext)

The utility then asked which network I was going to connect to. I found mine which was a dual band and it asked me to put it the connecting password. After doing so the new networks broadcasted immediately.

I logged all my devices into the new EXT_networks so this way my devices will automatically switch to the best signal. So now when I am in the garage or yard area my phone switches to the EXT network and when I ran the speed test it went from a 26.9 mbps back up to a 29.9/30 mbps.

In closing I would say that if you have noticeable low signal areas or in a multiple level house or an entertainment area outside in the back yard this unit would work great for you. Either as a hotspot or as a network extension.

If you live in a single level house under 2000 sqft you might look into moving your router around first before buying this. You may not need it.

This Little WiFi Range Extender Packs a Punch !

For fair disclosure, I consider myself to be a novice techy….I know just enough to be dangerous, but not enough to be an expert.

    Tech and Spec.

According to the supporting documentation, published white papers and other articles, the Linksys Max-Stream AC1900+ WiFi Range Extender is designed to provide an extended range to your WiFi with MU-MIMO. It also has the ability work with all routers and compliments a network that doesn't currently have MU-MIMO. The RE7000 features wireless seamless roaming, cross-band technology, and a multi-mode to switch between repeater and access point.

The form of this new gigabit range extender is very nice. Sleek form design. Only challenge one might have is if you have a sideways outlet you may have a bit of a hard time keeping it from slipping out of an outlet since it does not have a rotating plug in the back to accommodate this type of outlet setup

    My Experience

I don’t currently have a range extender in my residence nor have I ever had one. So this is a new item for me to add to my existing network. I have recently just upgraded to the Linksys Max-Stream AC5400 Mu-MIMO Gigabit Router with MU-MIMO (model EA9500). The signal strength had dramatically improved with this new router already. I am hoping to reach even better signal strength with this extender.

Upon opening the sealed box the typical clean packaging is in play. Very well protected and all the item you need are in very plane site and easy to unpack.

    Extender Setup

The setup guide is a very simple 4 step setup process. One of the nice features in the setup is how Linksys created a very easy to see and understand process to make sure you know the extender is connected with a simple LED indication on the front of the unit. Setup is pretty straight forward with step 1 plugging in the range extender near your router. Step 2 the LED indicator will start blinking orange. It is important to wait for the LED to blink orange before going to step 3. Steps 3& 4 is connecting the extender to your router for each bandwidth you have. I have two with my router so I need t0press the WPS button on your router and then press the WPS on the side of the extender. Now you repeat this step twice if you are setting up a 2.4 Ghz and a 5. Ghz network. The LED will turn solid green when connection is successful. If the LED starts to blink continually orange the connection has failed. If the LED stays lit orange then the connection to the router is weak and you need to relocate the extender to get better connectivity. Personally I think they should have used another LED color like purple for a weak connection.

However, here is the piece of information they did not tell you. If you have a router that uses Max-Stream, the router will automatically setup the extender to work with the router. I have a Max-Stream router and I did not know this. Why this is important. After you connect the extender to the router you need to access the range extender settings after setup to tweak the final settings. The range extender has its own access interface. I was struggling at first to get access to the interface and could not figure out why I was having trouble. What I found out was because I have Max-Stream the router was already in process of connecting it to itself and making all of the tweaks automatically. Cool feature. But, I had to do some online reading to find out this fact.

    Location of Extender.

Now I had to try a couple of different locations for the range extender. After placing it in a couple of locations, both on the first and second floor the signal indicator showed a solid orange instead of solid green. What appears to be happening is a few of the walls in our house have extra sound proofing materials in them causing the signal to be obstructed. The final location was on the second floor in the middle of the house with open access to the entry foyer. This large open space area allowed the signal to reach the extender and to provide the best overlapping range. As a result, I got the solid green LED which is what you want.

    Signal Strength.

The signal strength is very strong with the extender and it has made a difference. I have mention in other reviews that I have a rather large 2 story home with a basement. With my Max-Stream router we have increased our signal strength from 75% to 80% on the first and second floors to now having 100% signal strength throughout the first and second floor. Now I know that results are not going to be the same for everyone. But after making the adjustment and testing the signal strength and access to the extender it has increased and remains constant at 100% full bars throughout both floors of the house.

Overall, I am quite impressed and very satisfied with the new extender. I would recommend this to anyone that need to enhance and extend/improve the signal range of your WiFi signal throughout your network.

    Very good product

This is really a great product. Easy to install and it’s really affective. I was having trouble having wifi but now I am getting full signal and speed is good. I thought I have to put multiple in a 2700 sq feet house but it extends beyond it. Getting good signal in backyard also. I would definitely recommend this product.

I finally figured out how to make this work without having to call Netgear. Now the wifi works in the back yard where before I had to use cellular data. I no longer get a spinning globe when streaming the smart tv or a message saying my broadband is too slow.. Well worth it.

    Disappointed, money wasted !

As an IT professional, I can say Netgear has been a respected brand when we talk about networking devices.

Unfortunately this time I have to say this is NOT a good device. If you are looking to expand your signal, let’s say to your office room because you want to keep your connection strength, this will NOT do the job.

It will give you signal yes, but your Download Speed and Upload Speed will be REALLY AFFECTED, I have Frontier FIOS, compare the pictures below. It will reduce your internet speed when you are connected to this device in more than 50%.

So if you are looking just to have signal and some connectivity that’s fine, but if you already have signal but looking to keep your ISP connectivity metrics to have a strength convection to work at your home office, this is not what you need.

Is really disappointing because after try a few devices I though Netgear will make the difference, saying up to 300mb/s but it doesn’t go even up to 50mb/s.

Not a Techie But No Problems

I needed to strengthen the wifi in my daughter's room for her PS4. I bought this device after reading some reviews on Amazon and Best Buy. (yes, I paid a few dollars more from Best Buy but wanted the ease of service from them if any issues popped up). The one thing I did read is there were people that seemed to struggle with assigning the .ext to connect the device. Some said the manual was hard to understand. Why bother folks? There is a You Tube video that walks you through step by step. I am far from a Techie but this was a breeze and had up and running in minutes. Works great.

Once I got this setup, it has worked great. It is important to plug the item into a power outlet close to your TP-Link router as you are setting it up. I believe it initially connects to the router for the One-Mesh system via bluetooth or something. I tried setting it up in the same room, about 20+ feet away and it didn't work.

Works like a charm. Follow directions to set up.

Performs as expected. Specs are on point. Extends more than sufficiently for my needs, which is through an exterior wall and out to my garage. (About 30-40 feet). When I reach the edge of the range, connection fades as expected. This device has a good reputation, and rightly so. Follow directions when setting it up, and your wifi 6 will be properly extended. I have the extender in almost clear sight of my router, so it is a solid connection.

Set it up properly, make sure your wireless access point is compatible, and enjoy a better connection in those hard to reach places. Your not going to get max specs out of this device if your wireless access point doesn't have wifi 6 and your devices don't have it either. :P no fear, all backwards compatible.

Amazing Range Extender – Now I’m Getting The Speed

Long time users of the internet can remember modems and dialup. I had two phone lines so I wouldn’t tie up the main phone line. I then progressed to DSL and finally cable. The instant internet connections were glorious – and then came WiFi. I thought I was in heaven!

However, there was one problem. My house is long and the cable came in at one end of the house and that’s where my router was located. I had great coverage at that end of the house but was a little spotty in the other end. I have an Airport Extreme base station and was very happy with it. I had tried other range extenders, but they seemed to slow down my connection and they proved to not be very reliable. So when I had the chance to try the TP-Link AC1750 RE450 Range Extender, I was expecting to be disappointed as I was with the other range extenders. Boy was I surprised!

The first thing you notice about the AC1750 is it size. It’s not small. The electrical plug is at the bottom of the unit and covers most of the other plug in your electrical outlet. This is a small price to pay for the performance – more on that in a bit. It is 6.5 inches long and 8 inches with the middle antenna extended. It is 1.5 inches deep and 3 inches wide but 5.5 inches wide with both side antennas flipped up.

Once you plug it in, a blue LED power light lets you know that it is ready to go. The quick instruction guide follows you through the set up. There are two options – using a web browser and using WPS. I used the web browser. In your Wi-Fi settings you will select TP-LINK_Extender_2.4GHz and then go to your web browser of choice and enter http://tplinkrepeater.net. Use admin for both the username and password. You will be prompted to change both of these and then you will be guided through the rest of the setup process. I selected to keep the existing SSID and to have both the 2.4GHz and 5 GHz networks show as one. When the settings are to your liking, the extender will reboot and you will set the 2.4GHz and 5GHz light lit up. The large circular button will have a blue ring around it if your extender is in a good location (at least halfway between the router and your dead zone) and red if it is too far away.

Now for the real test. Did it help my dead spot and increase my speeds? I know that the 2.4 GHz band can travel farther, but the 5 GHz is better because it can transfer larger amounts of data and is less congested. I used a Wi-Fi app to test the coverage on my Mac. The results are shown in the pictures. I was in the middle of my house and could barely see the 5 GHz band before the extender, but after I was not only seeing it there but everywhere in my house! I recently upgraded to a 30 Mbps internet plan and was only getting that in the bedroom above where my router was located. As you can see in the picture, I was not getting the speed I was paying for. This picture was taken at the complete opposite end of the house! I went from 15 Mbps to 34 Mbps. There is also an Gigabit port if you want to run an Ethernet cable to it.

I can not sing the praises of this range extender enough. With all the streaming and downloading that is being done in my home, the increased speeds and coverage is amazing.

If there are any problems, it comes with a two year warranty and 24/7 technical support. It says on the box it will work with any W-Fi router. It played very nicely with my Apple Airport Extreme. I’m sure that it you get this extender you will not be disappointed!!

Great to extend a network signal

Using it as an Access Point (AP) gives it better performance than a simple Range Extender (RE). No need to try and boost a weak signal to begin with. We have Cat-6 throughout our home, so running this AC1750 from one of our network ports as an AP extends a Wi-Fi signal that our Verizon Wi-Fi 6 router cannot accomplish. We use this TP-Link-AC1750 (RE450) in the basement and a TP-Link-AC2600 (RE650) also as an RE on the 2nd Floor.

Bulky and pricey, but gets the job done

The TP Link WiFi extender does a good job at extending WiFi coverage. I put it in the mud room to extend coverage to the security camera on the garage, and I no longer have interruptions in recordings.

I give this product 3 stars because of the size and price of the product and difficult setup. The product is about the size (height and width) of two hands together. It also has a bright blue light that you can’t turn off. It’s somewhat of a good thing if you want to use it as a night light.

As good as it was reviewed. Only issue I had was yard and garage. 17,500 square foot yard is now almost completely covered and the detached garage has a signal.

Read the instructions and setup is fast and easy if you have a modern router they will find each other with two button pushes.

I just purchased a new wifi modem and it didn't connect to the 5G the first time but now it is right as rain.

Solid piece of equipment. I needed it for the garage because I am in there working on my car and my iPad couldn't receive a strong enough signal from the living room. Now I have this in there it seems the internet is faster on the ipad in the garage than in the house. I know this sounds crazy but this device is amazing.

Thanks to Athena's help (D'Iberville), this works!

I tried "A's" best unit, TOTAL BUST.

Walked in my local store, asked who knew the most about wifi extenders and Athena raised her hand. Sure enough, this unit "plugged and played" easy peasy.

Next day, I bought another for my hangar. Best Buy Geeks are GOOD!

    This thing really works!

My wireless router is the Linksys brand; the BestBuy in-store sales associate suggested that it would probably be best to match brands for the router and the range extender. I think that he was correct on that call. I needed the extender because a big 'ole refrigerator is directly in the path of signal from my wireless router to my laptop computer. This caused the signal to 'come and go.' The extender is placed so that the wireless signal to its antennae is not blocked by the refrigerator; the laptop sits about 18-in. from the extender. With the extender I have had a 100% non-interrupted wireless signal. This works great! (And Best Buy guaranteed that it would do the job.)

This is an excellent extender. I have a Peloton bike, which an excellent stationary bike, but it drops internet all too often. I I bought the extender, mounted it on the bike and made the bike think it's connected by ethernet by plugging the bike directly into the extender I mounted on the bike. Now it never drops and all I have to do his bet on my bad motor scooter and ride. I mean my bad Peloton....

Best network extender, and on sale now

I have used one of these for a few years now, and it always works. It is very easy to see if the original signal is strong enough because you will see a white steady light. If it turns to orange steady, it means you are a little too far from the main router, and you have to shorten the distance. I have not used the phone app that helps with this because it is so easy just to get the white light and know it's good. Speed is very fast, and having 4 gigabit ethernet ports in the garage without having to have dug a trench for wires makes this thing well worth it. Linksys/Belkin is the way to go for all networking gear now. Linksys is the best (stay away from netgear stuff with all their online registration and constant automatic updates), and this device is superb. I am online now buying another one for a friend and have set up several of these for people I know, and they are all still working.

Most of the time there is only one bar on the strength of the wi-fi which is suppose to be at least 3 bars. When using the location tether it sometimes indicates that the location is just right and at other times indicates that the location is too far. I have tried moving it several times but there doesn't seem to be an ideal location for it to work strong enough to span the 30ft between the gateway and the tv. As a result I have waited too long to return this extender due to the snow and trying to get it to work right. The 15 day maximum return time is too short for me but I will have to keep it now that I waited too long to return it.

We needed to work from home but they said we had to have our computer plugged into a modem to use the Computer as a phone and safely secure our vpn. I found this and the rest of my office too and we all have been loving it. You just plug it in near your Comcast router or whatever router your entire house uses, then after it lights up all the way around in a circle, move it to whatever room you want you desk at and plug your computer into the extender with a Ethernet coord. Ten starts and god priced

works well but needs app to function

we bought this to tie in a wired printer to a new location without a nearby port. This particular router has minimal buttons and really has to be configured by use of the app if you use a closed network. Once you have done that you are good to go, delete the app! You can also program this thing to turn itself off during non-use hours which helps a bit with the concern about security. Has worked well to date

TP LInk 300 Mbps did the trick

I installed a Ring video door bell about one month ago. although my hose is only 1750 sq. ft. I could not get a strong Internet connection. the Ring app stated "Poor Internet connection". The Ring door bell even stated that I had no Internet connection at one point. After setting up it resolved my connection issues and my connection is strong.

I researched various Wi-Fi extenders and the TP 300 had good reviews and the price was right.

I received the product faster that originally told by 2 days. It literally took 2 minutes to setup. The instructions are very easy to follow. Basically just plug in to an outlet near your modem. Push the WPS, push the button on the Wi-Fi extender it will light up and blink, when the light stops blinking unplug and plug in to an outlet in the area where the wi-fi is low or non-existent. Open the settings on your phone, search for the wi-fi. It will be the same as before but will have an ext after the network. Just put the same password in and connect and you will be all set.

    Decent extender with some limitations

Bought the AC1200 Extender to address inconsistent reception of a desktop PC in one of the bedrooms. The instructions and video for setting up the extender are very clear and easy to follow. I used the Tether app for the iPhone, which made the set up much easier. The extender must be set up near the router, which necessitated using an extension cord, as all the outlets are behind furniture. Because my router has the same SSID for both the 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands, it was difficult assigning the separate 2.4 and 5 bands on the extender to the matching band on the router. It would have been helpful to have not only the SSID name, but either the MAC address or IP address from the router, for each band.

Finding the best spot for setup is also relatively easy by plugging in the device and ensuring all the lights are solid blue. Because the 5 Ghz light was not lit, the device needed to be moved a number of times until it finally did; however, the range from the router was only about 30 feet away (and in an outlet higher up on a wall then a normal outlet is found). The Tether app also said the signal was strong enough to be moved farther from the router, but when it was, the signal strength dropped too much.

The desktop PC in the bedroom found the 5 Ghz band on the extender as it had a unique SSID name, different from the router and the extender's 2.4 Ghz band. The wireless antenna on the desktop PC needed to be positioned towards the extender to get the best reception, although, the fastest download speed was 150 Mbps, about 35% of the available bandwidth speed. This is enough for most all of the streaming needs, but is a bit disappointing. It maintains a good, steady signal, making it worth having.

A concern with this is the manufacturer recommends not doing firmware updates wireless, but using a wired connection. This seems cumbersome, particularly using the web browser to find and download the needed update files.

Overall, the construction quality, ease of setup including videos and helpful manual, and apparent consistent signal strength are good, it does not seem the best solution to extend router signals, especially the 5 Ghz band, throughout a large home.

I bought this item with the intention of addressing a “dead spot” in my home WiFi network. So far the product has performed admirably. I am pleased with the added boost to the WiFi signal and not having to suffer through constant buffering and programming interruptions. Set up was simple and quick, especially with using the Tether app. For the money and what I needed, this was a good buy and I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

    Sure did help !!!

This product was easy to install. Just plug into outlet, then push the WPS button on your router, go to the extender and do the same thing with their button and it will link up quickly and return to encryption mode on its own. Then go to your device and search for the new WIFI signal ending in -ENT and connect. You will have to enter your routers password. The device tripled my Mbps on my devices.

I'm digging the portability of this thing..

Let me first say that I received the Linksys - AC750 Boost Wireless Range Extender free for my review. With that being said up front, I would have definitely bought this device for use in my home. I currently am subscribed to Time Warner Cables High Speed at 60 Mbps download and I use their standard cable modem with dual band wifi. I have a 5 br 2 story home with an attached garage and have the cable modem on the ground floor at the far side of the house. This is where the cable best came into the house closest to TWC house hookup box on the outside. I do have pretty good wifi range already however when I try and connect in the garage which is on the opposite end of house I do experience connection problems. Really any room at opposite end of home has awful wifi coverage. Kitchen, living room, and the dinning area. This is where the Linksys AC750 Boost Wireless Range Extender helped. When I got it I was only focused on extending my wifi to my garage. This was done with ease. I plugged in the unit upstairs in my living room on the far wall of house. Really the farthest away I could from the cable modem/router. I hit the wps button on the side like it said in directions then I tapped the wps button on the modem. I watched the color change on front of extender and tapped the wps again on extender and then again on modem. It sets up each band available separately. ie 2.4 and 5 Ghz. That was it, I was done. It seemed to have connected to my TWC without any issues. I went to garage and I configured the new wifi connection on my phone. The extender adds a new SSID with _ext after for each channel it extends. I had available on my phone both the 2.4 and 5.0 Ghz channels available and they where at full strength. I connected to the 5.0 ext and opened my speedtest.net app. I added a photo of the screen shot of me standing in my garage where before I had nearly zero wifi coverage. Connected to the extender I was able to download at well over the 60 Mbps mark. Wow is all I can say. Once the unit is programed to your wifi you can unplug and move where ever you need wifi extended. I do this when I mow my yard to listen to streaming music on my head phones. Works perfect. Before the stream would switch from wifi to cell coverage once I got out of range and it literally drove me crazy because each time it did this the music would stop. On the box it says that the coverage is for up to 6500 SQ FT. I would say it does every bit of this and more with the beam forming technology. Love, Love, Love my new wifi range extender. Thank you Linksys friends and family.

    Great Product, can still improve

**I received a free sample from Linksys in exchange for my honest feedback**

**It does mean that I will review this product as if I have purchased it**

    Pros

    - Easy to setup

    - Simple to read instruction

    - Lightweight

    - Adjustable antennas

    - 2-prong plug, same size, suitable for upside down wall plug

    - Includes 1 Ethernet port on bottom

    - When used correctly, speed boost is significant

    - Extends both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz

    Cons

    - Wide body, not suitable for side-way-facing wall outlet.

    - Gets quite warm

    Comments

I was able to boost my speed by 10mb/s in one location.

The weight and size suggest a need to slim the casing down. It feels somewhat hollow.

The questions you should ask are:

"Do I need a Wireless Extender?"

    - If your wireless network has dead zones, yes.

    "What is a Wireless Extender?"

    - Takes in existing signal, and extends network.

"Do I need one that is up to 6,500 sq ft?"

    - Take account of obstructions!!! More obstructions = lesser extension distance/area

    >Speed decrease is inevitable at far distances<

    20 mb limit bandwidth.

I own an ex8000 as well as buying this one. I can only get 20mb down on a 400mb connection with this one. In the area I use this, I don't have other wifi stomping on this. My other wifi extender will give me full speed over 400mb. I can only get full speed if I connect via Ethernet to this one.

I also checked the bandwidth of this devices signal. I only checked 5g since that's what I was extending. The bandwidth is much smaller with this unit vs the other one and my router. I'll include a picture showing the default names. You can see the slim tooth pick vs the fat signal of my router. The other extender looks similar to the router. If you want an extender, go for the ex8000 not this one.

Seems like a real loss for netgear.

Very fast and covers a wide area

I needed a wifi extender with LAN port, then decide to go for this option. I truly feel like I have 2 modems in my house now because I had the wall plug type previously. This extender is paired with my xfinity xfi modem with gig speed, the modem is downstairs and the extender is upstairs. The speed of the extender is just as fast and I’ve had no issues since.

I bought this to add WiFi signal throughout my home. It covers two floors now and I even get wifi outside. You need to make sure you sync your existing wifi and the extender right next to each other. Uses the same wifi account and does the transition between the two devices on its own.

Fantastic product! Works like a charm!

My AX11000 Wifi 6 router already gives me excellent signal throughout my home, but in the very far corners the 5GHz speeds left a bit to be desired. Of course this is no fault of the router because 5GHz signals do not go through walls as well as the 2.4GHz signals. So I hooked up the AX6000 mostly with the hope that I could get the same lightning fast 5GHz speeds everywhere in my home.

This thing delivered and then some! The 5GHz speeds are consistently fast throughout my own home, and I am now able to get a wifi signal at my next door neighbor's house. Not the kind where it shows up in your list of networks but never actually connects when you click on it either. A stable, reliable connection. Obviously most people won't need this sort of benefit but just goes to show how well this product is working.

Setup was a breeze. I used the nighthawk app with no issues (follow the directions they give you and you can't go wrong), but the web interface gave me more options to tweak settings. You also don't need to worry about whether you're connected to the extender or the router. It will all be paired together so you only need to have a password for your original network name, meaning family and guests won't complain asking which network they need to join (for example, there won't be a Netgear44 and Netgear44_EXT; just a Netgear44 and the devices do the work for you).

Strongly recommend this device to anyone needing greater coverage of their large home, perhaps someone with a workshop, detached garage, or if you need better signal to entertain in the backyard. Granted, I am using a wifi 6 router so this extender might serve you even better if your current router is not the latest technology.

I can appreciate why someone may not want to pay so much for an extender, especially if you are already using a wifi 6 router in a smaller home. I believe it is a solid value for the benefits it provides to larger homes with dead spots though and would recommend to family and friends in need of greater, more consistent coverage for their homes.

I received this product as part of Netgear's First Look Review Program in exchange for my unbiased opinion and experience.

Works great — had issues setting up

This is my 4th Orbi satellite I’ve added to my mesh. Really happy with how they work and provide much better coverage over the entire house.

I had some issues getting this new satellite to link to my existing Orbi system and was not able to find a solution online. I emailed Netgear Tech Support and they said this unit (brand new to me) exceeded the shelf life for their product support. They made an exception this one time and were able to provide alternative synching instructions that eventually worked.

Decent extender if you need the voice function.

Extender seemed to work okay wirelessly with our existing Orbi system, but had major issues with the wired backhaul that the rest of the satellites use due to distance throughout the house. It appears the voice functionality software version hasn't caught up to the rest of the Orbi family (or we just got a bad unit). We ended up returning and purchasing an extender without voice functionality that worked flawlessly.

    Say goodbye to low-resolution feeds

I use streaming cable. My main router is not far from the TV but there's too many walls in between so sometimes all I see is a low resolution feed. I plugged the range extender at the nearest AC from the TV and used an ethernet cable to connect it through the port below the extender instead of connecting to it wirelessly. I have yet to see a low resolution feed from my streaming cable during the past two weeks that I have been using it.

    Very good product

Would have been 5 stars but 1st setup option did not function properly so had to reset it to factory settings and use 2nd setup option...and now working perfectly! Now we have excellent coverage to the rest of the house...and with everyone working and schooling from home...great tool to have....the ethernet port is an added bonus...

I have had this extended for two weeks and I’m still not able to set it up. They need to make it easier to set up.

    Couldn't be better

they guys were timely, professional and very respectful. the removed the old appliances and installed the new ones quietly and efficiently. it was actually pretty impressive.

they ran a test run, made sure the machines were leveled, cleared out the packaging and wished me a happy day.

Very low end and poor quality.

This range extender is very cumbersome to set up. It will not keep your programed Wi-Fi settings very long. Consistently loses configuration with your router. Initially liked the size and portability, and design but I became very disappointed with it's performance. It is not of good quality. I cannot recommend this item for purchase.

    Never worked correctly

The extender never worked correctly. ASUS customer service was no help either and even the Geel Squad agent couldn’t figure out why it wasn’t working. Returned the item.

Used for AI MESH to merge SSIN to one network.

Giving it 5 stars, because i use the AI Mesh on this (applicable to ASUS router paired with this extender). Although it wasn't as simple as plug and play. You need to first upgrade the firmware on the extender, reset to factory defaults on the repeater.asus.com site while connected to the repeater. Then Update the firmware on your primary ASUS router, and then log into the router.asus.com while connected to your primary router SSIN, and then go to the network map --> AI MESH--> do a search and the extender should show up, select that and it will merge your extender SSIN to your current primary router network (versus having at least 2 networks: router, extender SSIN). Took me a while to figure it out, so I'd say that would be closer to 4 stars, but pretty happy once its working. A cheaper alternative over buying a separate brand new router. And don't use the mobile app, that was useless to me. Video below was helpful as reference.

Once its all setup its really cool you can test to see if it working by going to router.asus.com and you can see the specific clients connected to your extender, very fun once it actually works. Wish somebody wrote this review would have saved some time, so I did!

Easy to setup per ASUS instructions

Followed ASUS instructions for AI Mesh and it was very easy to setup as a node. As with any range extending device need to be aware of location placement to avoid competing connection paths.

The WPS setup was easy and now my WiFi is extended

The WPS setup was easy. The lights to move closer or farther away from your existing WiFi access point is nice feature. The only issue is without my existing ASUS WiFi router supporting AiMesh the ASUS - Wireless-AC Dual-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender adds _rpt to your SSID. So when roaming you are actually connecting to another WiFi access point. This is not really a problem with most devices currently, but I wanted to mention that it may affect some users.
